I love the new one, but I do prefer the more narrow pieces of the tail and the small orbs of the original. I also think that the feet and hooves would look better if the claws were on the front feet and the hooves on the back.
I think that the head and snout are way too short for a horse/mule pet. The back legs are a little short too, but overall I like it. I'll be putting in my vote for the new one. =)
Its head is still WAY too small in my opinion and the elegant floating of the tail orbs is gone now. The tail orbs are too big, chunky and clunky. Not mystical looking enough.

I love it, but the tail, I think, should be lowered a bit because it looks like it's too high and the far cheek seems a little too far out, but maybe that's just to me.
I adore it. The nose COULD be a bit more rounded but otherwise it's awesome :3
I think it looks great! ![]()
I like this a lot. ^^ I really do like how it looks. All I can say is that it might help the face look somewhat less awkward if you guys made the cheek on the right just a little narrower, but aside from that, I really do like it a lot. ^^ Good job, you guys!
I LOVE it! Awesome job =]
I actually like how the revamp's face looks. The other one looks a bit squished to me.
I just don't like the face, the nose looks sort of 2-d.
I still prefer the old one better. Personally, I think the revamp version looks like its tail is coming straight out of its back. Also, the fullness of the cheeks make it look like he has the mumps. They should be a little more squared off than rounded. The ears look stiff too, I like how they are more relaxed in the old version. I could easily look past the ears and face, but the weirdness with the tail kills it for me. The rest of the body is nice though. The leg and chest structure are much better than the old one... not as chubby, which is a good thing, I think. ![]()
I like it better then the old revamp; the hair looks beautiful and the front paws are much better. However, I still like the old style better. Hikeis have always been a favorite pet of mine and though this is a good picture, I don't think it does them justice.
Personally, I think the head should be bigger (Even if this revamp is more proportional), especially the cheeks and snout. Also, I'd like it if the back feet were bigger (Again, though they are more proportional now, part of the reason I liked the Hikei was because it looked so strange).
Other then that, great job!
I think it's a well done revamp. The cheek was rather noticeable when I first glimpsed the new look but after a while you sort of forget about it. Good job!
I feel that the hair is too boldly outlined and has a stiff appearence because of that. Also, the stripes and pink on the muzzle seem a tad off-centered, making the face look lopsided although it's shape is perfectly fine. Last, I'd like to note that either there should be less tufts of hair above the hoof or there should be more tufts of hair in its coat. It sticks out too much in my opinion.
On the other hand, I really do like the new pose and figure. It's not completely horse like and it's not completely tiger/dog like so it has a nice hybrid kind of feeling.
I love how sweet its eyes look! good job
This is the best Hikei revamp so far. I was seriously worried when I saw the last few. I still prefer the OLD, but I won't go dumping my Hikei now if it IS revamped.
I absolutely LOVE this revamp (: The others were great but this version is spectacular. I love how the brightness from the orbs on the tail is reflected on the lighting on the back, etc. It really brings the image together.
I think that this one if drawn better, but the kind claws are quite noticable. It draws away from the "Look at me, I'm adorable!" first impression. I like the head position in the Old one, though. Reminds me of My Little Pony. Haha.
But good job.
Absolutely adorable ! I love the face on this one! And the body as well...and that tail to sooo cute !! Excellent work !! Bravo !
Ah, once again we have a splendid piece of artwork from the Subeta staff.
I would first-off mention that this is spectacular-- but you already know that from my first sentence, so I will stop being redundant. On with the critique: comparing the two manes, the newer one is much better in both shading (well, especially in the shading) and shape. I cannot help but notice that small strands of hair begin to creep over the forehead too, which is not seen on the previous and current one.
The face is beginning to appear more equine, because the old one's pink muzzle strikes me as looking like a bird. But it's also a tad bit too wide and roundish to be that equine looking.
The eyes are also more attractive-- there seems to be more shading on them than afore, and less light reflection; that makes it all the better.
As for the main body's shading, I would critique that more of said appliances would do the image some good. Say, a couple of circles upon its shoulder or something of that nature.
We also see, in the comparison of the two specimens, anatomical difference. While the older version's feline legs are chubby and large, with the heel very high on its leg, the newer one's is in a more proper position. In reality, most creatures don't have their heels or joints that high up-- unless, of course, it is a horse (in which case it is called the hock). But we are talking of its feline qualities-- or canine, depending on how it is interpreted by all. Another notable anatomy change is the chest-- which looks much more convincing, if you ask me, in this update.
Even the "feathers" (which is what the hair around the ankles of a horse is termed, or so I have heard, and is typically best seen on draft horses such as Shires) have improved, and are a great deal more noticeable now.
Ah, even the viewpoint of this one is different; I happen to like it better for this as well, because it shows more of the Hikei, and we can clearly see it and its appendages quite a bit better.
The only other attribute that I am not really pleased by in this (hopefully) Hikei-to-be image is the glowing orbs: their size, while understandable because of the new camera angle (as mentioned afore), just doesn't seem to fit this pet. And to top it off, their color has even changed from what it used to be, for it is just slightly lighter. I'm more attracted to darker colors, so if you too are this way then you can follow my logic.
Overall, though, I would have to say this is a most outstanding piece, and deserves much love, and should definitely become official. Lovely work, and once again kudos to the original artist! ![]()
(By the way, I hope sCode works here.)
It's a nice pet. (:
There are some things from the old one that could be incorperated more- I liked how previously, it was 'cute' and had a rounded look rather than a boxy one.
However; The artists who have enough talent to draw things like this should be proud, it's beautiful. ![]()
I always dislike these light lines on the opposite edge of the shadows, I really think that should be dropped. Apart from that, the art is definitely nice, but I dislike look of the new pet in general. It's not some details, just the whole thing. Not mine ![]()
I believe the new one is better than the old. :3 However, the front legs look a bit blocky and stiff. I defiantly agree with what xxMadxHatterxx said about the cheek.
Thank you especially for the reminder, it's sad to see unhelpful negativity on the artwork here.
I think to me, more than anything, the shading seems lacking? It could be a lot more detailed on the leg feathers and even the body in general. Yes, white is hard to shade, but this pet seems bit sub-par to other revamps? DEFINITELY heading in the right direction though! c:
I find the tail on the new one much improved but the nose makes it look too much like parrot to me. also it looks a bit chubby, but the shading on the mane is gorgeous and also the markings look much better
It's great but I have two things to comment on:
I'd love this if the nose was a bit longer. Also, I dunno if it's just me, but the tails seem a bit stiff...
I love the tail!!!
I think it needs a wider/longer nose... its just not quite right. I think the rest of it is cute though!
I'm a big hikei fan so I'm hoping they can fix that nose. ![]()
the revamp is nice. the butt tuft is an eye-break between the butt and the leg. ding
I think the front half is absolutely perfect u however I think the hind feet should be raised a little higher? And after comparing it with the old image, I think the tail on the old image was more preferable. One more thing, the little butt tuft is random, I'm not saying it should be exiled to another country, but it should be more consistent? perhaps add more random tufts to other places of the body? Other than those issues, I love the proportions used c:
I donno, I really just dislike the revamp. The head looks too small, and the legs seem a bit blocky and stiff looking. I think i would go with the back legs more like a tigers being all heavyset and the front just look to straight at the top. If that was changed, I think it would look awesome.
also, im not very fond of the unevenness of the lineart. some places are way thicker than others. im only being picky because i have a hikei and i really dont want it to go all bleh. =]
i like it, but i dont. eh, i dont know. i just really dont like the eyes.. too... slantly. other than that its perfect.
I'm torn. I really feel like the overall quality of it has improved, but the pose is pretty bland. I also feel like the forelegs on the new one could be thinned out and made more "horse-like". I'm also agreeing with some other user comments about the ears being too pointed and not teardrop-shaped enough. Minor nitpicks, though, I guess. Like I said, I do feel like the overall quality has definitely improved.
I am not a horse person my sister loves them, but the only thing is the 2 front hoofs, 2 back legs paws...it looks a tad odd but if anything i feel the paws should be on the front like a Animal who needed to defend itself could use the front paws to claw or scratch and the hine legs should have the hoofs.
Ok so a few comments. First of all, the the face needs to be a lot slimmer if you are going to stick with that pose. Second, they ears look too slim, like they are really skinny triangles. Third, the angle and pose are too boring, too generic and too stiff. The whole things looks a little stiff if you ask me, maybe make it more loose and a realistic pose. The eyes could be a little bigger, and the tuft of fur on the butt, just seems out of place. So that's all I have to say. LOVE the size of the body by the way, you should keep that the same. ![]()
Honestly, I'm fine with this revamp, as long as the Hydrus version does NOT change. I've grown to love that one
Great work on this one though, whoever did it.
One thing I noticed - I'm not a horse person, so I can't really say, but it looks to me like the hooves are too big for the legs. But maybe it's just the way I'm looking at it.
And yeah. Once someone mentioned, not the only thing I can see is that big fat ugly cheek poking out on the right side. The chubby face worked with the old pose where you could only see one side anyways, but if we're able to see the whole face, it needs to be a lot slimmer.
It looks great!
Much, much better.
Two things, however, that are a little iffy for me:
The snout, like others have said, is very narrow. With its cheeks the way they are, it almost looks like a bird's beak.
The hind legs, the knee on the leg closest to us seems to be very low. With the higher back, it looks as if the thigh bone is very, very long, compared to the rest of it's leg. The knee could be moved up slightly, probably around a quarter-inch, just under the Hikei's belly, and it'll look better. The hind paws, however, are very much big-cat like, they scream tiger. :3
It looks very nice, but that back right hind leg just irks me it's a little thicker than the other leg.
Other then that, I like it.
I liked the old one better.
The new one has lost the cute, chibi feelings, the tuft of fur near the end is an eyesore, the tail looks weird, and the head's position looks very uncomfortable.
Aw, it's so cute :3
The only thing I don't like is the position of the head... it doesn't look like a comfortable angle, but it doesn't seem to mind. It should xD
Love the front end, but the rear haunch area does appear hunched, or scrunched as someone put it. Lack of hip definition / muscle lineage gives the impression of a more diminshed rear end, which makes the tail appear to be coming directly out of the top of the back. A little plumping up of the derriere should fix that nicely. Overall, a very spiffy little guy!!! ![]()
this is adorable! the pose, the shading, everything looks so cute.
the only thing i can imagine possible wanting changed would be the shout and back legs. i'd rather they were chubbier ... but this is still cute!
I absolutely love it's tail. Hugs I think I'm gonna agree with what some people said about the ears, back legs and muzzle. Also I think that that the little tuft on it's butt should go, it looks very random.
I think it looks cute.I love the position and the face.
It still bothers me. The face is perfectly chubby but it's too short. The snout could be a little more mule-like.
I also love how the old version's hooves didn't bulge out and the hind legs had more Foot to them. It was like... 1/2 thigh 1/2 foot. Still voting old for me.
It looks very nice ^^. I think the mane could be a bit smaller or less stiff, it stands out and gives it a bit of a rock star mohawk. The slight delicateness of the old hikei, if transferred over to this drawing, would also make this hikei look better.
