New Hikei Poll :o!

Please remember that we look for Constructive criticism! Saying that something is ugly doesn't help the artist improve it ;)

Oh, very nice. I can see no flaws or obvious needs for improvement. The new Hikea is just as cute as can be and I want to say that I really admire the imagination of the artists here. Sometimes I try to invent new creatures and it's just not as easy as the artists here make it look. Great job guys!

I like it! I think it's adorable. Unlike some of the revamps that have been coming out, this one doesn't change the design of the pet at all - it still looks exactly the same, but the art is better. (To me at least.)

I'd personally like to see a... more graceful version of the Hikei - it looks sort of like a baby, and I'd be interested to see it "grow up" just a little. Just my mostly unrelated opinion there.

eh, the pet has always been a little fat and squatty. I think the artist did a good job of making the lines and shading better while keeping the style. The first one was...shudders

I think everything from the improved wonderfully! I like it much more than the old version. However, the muzzle seems a bit off. I realize that the old version's muzzle is also kinda small bit this version got even smaller with less structure.

The face bugs me a little... like others have mentioned, it seems to bulge out there on the viewer's left. My other problem with it is that the legs and body make it look too fat... maybe make them a tad longer?

I like the face, tail and stripes. But I agree with others about the shoulder. And maybe you could make it a little thinner to match and legs and tail better. 8D

The main thing that this revamp doesn't have that I loved about the old one was the detail on the tails. The old one had some SHINY, glowing orbs! These ... look very lackluster.

This one looks a tad adolescent. Perhaps if the head was a tad smaller, the neck and legs a little bit more slim and long (with actual knees and not stick-straight legs!), I would be a lot more satisfied with this.

the head looks way too fat, and the angle on the nose/eye are not correct. 2/3 profile is what you were going for, but you managed less than that! Sorry, i hope you can make it better, becuase i really do like this pet!!

I think in proportion to his body his head looks a bit too big. The back paws also look like they're pushing inwards to me like it's standing on its heels instead of fully on its feet. Maybe shrink up the head and slim up his body a bit. Some are comparing with the head of a horse. Here's a skeletal chart of one of you need an idea: http://www.rescuecritters.com/8701.jpg

Good luck.

I like the old version better. its much cuter. i think you could just add some details like the main and tail to the old one and it will be fine. the pose is much better and the face doesn't look as strange on the old hikei.

I honestly don't see what was wrong with the old one.. I think other pets are in more need of attention than the hikei.. no, I'm not pushing for a certain color/species Just saying, why fix what's not broke when there are plenty of other things around the site that are. Of course, that's jmo.

Um ok African Wild Ass still have the same basic anatomy to their head as a horse. Long muzzle, prominent eye ridge, long slanted forehead. Not domed forehead with a tiny muzzle. You could probably keep the large ears though since they are much larger then a horse's ears.

I like the new one. It looks less...well, squishy. I mean, the old one looks like it could be made of Jello and the new one has stronger lines, which make it look like it could actually stand up without getting sucked down a drain or something.

It's cute and I'm glad to see the Hikei is getting a revamp, but there are a few things that I'm not sure about.
One of the things I'm not quite sure about is the tail. I don't know, it just doesn't really seem to fit in size for me. Also the head compared to the body is a little off. I can understand that it's not supposed to have accurate horse anatomy but I'm looking at some of the special colored Hikei and it seems the body on them is a little longer plus the tummy does not really have much of a shape in this revamp XD
I hope this helped

In all fairness, the votes that should count the most-should be the votes of the users who actualy have the pet that is up for revamp. all votes should be considered but those who actualy have the pet should have the most imput count. After all they are the ones that have investment into the pet. Right? Also the more of the peticular pet they have the more points per vote.

I kinda like the Revamp, and I am happy about the fact that its not exactly a horse anymore, but something different. I am just not that fond about the neck/head proportions; the head seems too large, and I think the legs could use some visible bones. Apart from that I am okay with it. I don't need a more exciting pose, or a more horseish style. I just want the cuddly playful happy little hikei like always

I really enjoy this revamp, I think it is a good improvement from the original. Sure it looks a bit chibi but that's not really a bad thing when it comes to this pet. As for criticism it seems everyone has already said what's been needed to be said but still; back legs look a bit heavy and it would be best to shrink the cheeks and ears and/or the entire head while elongating the tail to give it a less chibi look unless the artist wishes for it to look chibi. If that's the case keep it as is. Still, kudos to the artist! The new Hikei is very good

I could have stated that better. Basically, horses have a long slanted forehead that comes down into a prominent ridge above the eye. Dog, cats, humans have a much shorter span and rounded forehead. Big cranium=bad, longer inclined cranium=good for a horse. The head we see here is much closer to the rounded dog or cat then the elongated horse head.

It looks a bit 2Dish and like it's a chibi. Maybe make it slightly leaner, (with a longer face) and round out the feet some.

The tail and face are considerably prettier, as is the mane.

"I suggest a more... 'exciting' pose."

Agreed. Move a foreleg forward or something. Anything other than having it just standing there on the side with all four legs together, and feet flat on the ground. It's boring.

Alright, I like the shading, just like everyone else, and I completely agree that the head is too big. The old pose was better, but I do like of like this one. The biggest problem that I see is the thickness of the neck and the rest of the limbs, horses, and even lions which I think this is modeled after have generally slimmer limbs nearer to the hoof and paw respectively.

Basically make the neck a little thinner, the head smaller, and the limbs a bit slimmer too. Also a bigger tail might help.

I prefer the old one, but this one has better art. THe pose does not appeal to me. And there's something about it's head. I'm not sure what. Maybe the jaw and the size of it.

I really like this! The only thing that seems off is the entire back half. It seems heavier almost, like it's weighted strangely. Maybe if the midsection was a bit smaller, and the back arched a bit, bringing the back legs up on a the ground a little bit...

Oh, I don't know. Overall, great revamp.

It's definitely an improvement, but let's be honest: with the way the old Hikei looks that's hardly hard to do. XD I think this one could indeed use a bigger tail and the paws look somewhat... flat? The hooves aren't perfect either, a little too... bouncy? I'm not saying this right. I like the direction this is taking, but it needs... something. /not helpful

The shading and quality are much better then the originally like all the revamps here of late. I like the body and the legs. They are much improved since the last revamp where the legs were ultra deformed and would have crippled a horse like animal. I don't mind the small tail but if you decide to make it larger it wouldn't hurt. The neck is proportionate to the body.

But then you stick a giant head on a much smaller proportioned body. It does indeed look chibi. Shrink the cranium, cheek bones and ears. Then elongate the muzzle and it will fix the giant head on little body appearance. And for those confused about horses eye anatomy. Horses don't have eyebrows, they have a large ridge above the eye. It's a very prominent feature and different then a human, dog or cat. This head doesn't look like it belongs on a horse, even a baby one. Giving it an eye ridge will immediately make it look more like a horse. It might be easier for the artist if she went with a different view, the slight turn on the head is much harder to draw then other views. Here's some examples of horse heads to give you an idea of the ridge I'm talking about.

I dunno. This new image is definately an improvement. I can see how people say it looks "chibi" or "too short", but when I look at the older image in comparison, it looks just about the same.
I think what gets people is the ange of the body.. with a 3/4th view, you can pull off a whole different look and fit a lot more into the image. I'm not saying that's what needs to be done, but I think that may be why people feel it seems too short in comparison- because the 3/4th illusion isn't there.
The Hikei has always been sort of MLP-ish, so the shortness really doesn't bother me. If I had to change anything i'd probably put a sharper curve in the back (Just a slight flowing dip rather than a straight spine) and I might change the sngle of the head, but thats all just my own preference.
Good job, artists. =3

I'm appalled. After going through all of these comments, some users had the audacity to act rude. This is not something to be RUDE over. Or state your rude opinions. I says so in the original news post.

And I'm still trying to figure out why people are SO against chubby pets. There are other skinny pets out there for you. Get one of those. The original Hikei was chubby with a large head as well. You just couldn't see the body at all. I think this pet was redrawn the way it is supposed to be redrawn. The artist still kept the main features in her redraw. (Like the large head, and the short legs, etc.)

I'm not quite sure about this revamp (just to be clear, Hikeis in any form don't really interest me). The shading is improved, that's always a good thing, and the pose is better, but still, I have a strange impression that the old lineart was more... fluent. Flowing. This little guy looks cramped into this square and not happy with it Also yes, the tail is definitely too small and thus the head seems too big. I'd make the tail bigger, leave the head as it is and voila.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

It's pretty cute, but maybe make it lankier?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

The new Hikei is really... kind of "chubby" in the middle. People said that the head could be smaller, but it wouldn't look right unless it's belly was a bit smaller. The tail could also be longer, because on the revamp it looks almost like a stump. I much preferred the old pose, too, because it almost gave the Hikei... more versatility? It lengthened the tail, and gave it less "chub". I think if you just took the old one and gave it the revamp's legs, mane and markings, it would be perfect.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by bmg
User Avatar

Hmm... I like it better than the old one (to the extent that I like Hikei's), but I do find the back legs to be a bit dog-like and the head... the right side, maybe? I don't know... I think if the angle of his face were turned, (more of a 3/4 view) then his eye/cheek would look a bit better. Great job, though.
