New Hikei Poll :o!

Please remember that we look for Constructive criticism! Saying that something is ugly doesn't help the artist improve it ;)

I like that the legs of this new version are slimmed down a bit, and I like the little ruffle of leg fur that is over the hooves. The back paws seem a bit off to me--I think the toes look as though they have been bent too much? For instance, the middle toe on its left leg forms a closed circle--the line of the toe is drawn too far back, so that the toes look very thin and very bent.

I think the chest is a bit too simplified, as well. The chest is just one curve, and when it levels out, it stays at the same exact level as it continues on to the belly. This gives the Hikei the appearance of being, well, a bit of a sausage. I would think that in most animals, especially something like a zebra, the chest area extends down farther and is more defined because of the ribcage, then slopes upward as it goes towards the hindlegs. This might help in slimming the creature down a little, since there seem to have been several comments about it looking chubby.

I think the face looks chubby because, for once, it is not being overshadowed by chubby front legs. Simply making the head smaller, and maybe tilting it so that you can see less of the right eye would fix this. This might make slimming the neck down feasible as well, as it does seem a little -too- thick, even for a horse or zebra.

I kind of miss the illusion of the neck being arched up high, like a real equine, but I don't know if anyone else does.

I really really like this, however i think that the back legs could be a bit.. beefier? they seem to delicate and small to hold up the tubby little fellow. x3 i really do like this though. I really do not like the current hikei, but see this as a VAAST improvement. 8D

Yeah...for people who told us all to not go to .net...its funny that you are still projecting links there.

I like the new Hikei, but I am not logging in to .net to vote.

I like the coloration of this Hikei, but the other one is cuter. I think the best would be giving the new Hikei a pose more similar to the old one, then thickening the forelegs to make it look less plump.

Now this looks like a hikei! I think if you slimmed down the neck a bit and didn't show the other side of the face, it wouldn't look so top-heavy. But overall, great job. ^^

It's pretty nice For some reason, the front half of this Hikei looks proportionately much larger than the back half. Possibly if the tails were a little longer? And maaybe make the back paws a tiny bit larger as well? I just feel like the back paws proportionately aren't sized right with the head-- they seem too small. This is only my opinion though.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I just noticed, Poison's post. That's a traditional shetland pony. They're not crosses, just stocky for life in the colder climates. I love the way they're built too

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Personally i'm really happy with the revamp. I'm going to remind users that this isn't based off of a horse, it's based on zebra which are built a bit more stocky. I agree that the tails might look even better if they were a bit longer or thinker to match the body. sharpening up the muzzle would appeal to me too but that's a personal thing. I love equine noses >< Otherwise I love it! Fantastic job, Brilliant work!

In my opinion the face is much too fat. But then, I don't like horses all that much. I just hope you don't change the Hydrus one...

This one gets my vote. Hmm...I did not read the past comments. But is it just me, or are the tails a little small? I think it would look better if the tails were a tad longer.

i can see some people are saying that the neck is to fat. horse's have large and muscular necks. I think it is great maybe make the tails a bit biger.

I think the tail should be just a bit bigger and the neck looks either too short a bit fat. But I like how the hooves and paws came out! Much better! I think just a few little tweaks will make it great

But then again I make no sense whatsoever... it does look really nice despite the tiny flaws. But no one is PERFECT at any thing right?

I know this is a public area of the site, and the rules still apply. I won't be stupid. (sorry, not many sites add the "Don't be stupid"... so I had to respond to that)

Ah yes. Like everyone else is saying... it does look chibi-ish.

Try making the neck just a tad bit longer.... and the belly a bit less round near the... back legs. The right cheek does look a bit round... maybe a small, TINY tweak of that would make a HUGE difference. And yes, the tails should be a little bigger.

I dont see the need to revamp the Hikei, at least, that much. I have a huge fan of the current Hikei, and while I like that its less shinny, and the hoofs look a bit better, I still like the original best. Its nice art, just not what made the hikei one of my favorite pets.

I actually like this version of Hikei a lot more then the original, With the size of the head as some people seem to be complaining about, I think it's a good size gives it a more cute and adorable look. But that's just my opinion.

This doesn't really appeal to me. I'm trying to figure out why, but I'm not really sure. Except that the pose and the art are... sort of blah. I don't mean the technical quality of the art but just, the appeal of it. The muzzle seems rather pointy to me, and overall it sort of looks like a chibi... and I'm not fond of the chibi look because it's too oversimplified to me.

Said already, but it looks like it could be the Chibi. I love everything else about it, and changing the neck/headsize is all that needs tweaking imo. Good job

It's very cute, but the neck and tails seem short to me. The neck might just appear short, since its head is pointed downward, so if its head were lifted a bit, that might help. I love the feathering above the hooves and the subtle shading on the face and hind legs, though.

This would make a great Chibi Hikei, left as is.

I Think the update is cute, but in my opinion the head is a little wide as is the body..and maybe have the back paws a little more fierce like when you get the hikei body on the Human Avatars.. But other wise its adorable.

Although, VictoriaVendetta, age doesn't decide if you can draw nicely or not, one person could be say 15 and be like the next Leonardo and the other person could be the same age and can't draw a stick figure correctly. Thats just a silly example though. I agree that they should be more muscled, but the lack of also doesn't make it seem like it was "drawn by a little kid" as you said, which is by the way, fairly rude. the Lack of muscles makes the pet itself look like a child, rather than the artist. But thats just my honest opinion.

Hm, this is adorable, I just wish the old pose had been kept. This pose is the basic of the basic.

The head also looks quite large in proportion to the body o: I do really like the eyes and tail though : D

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I think it would look nicer with a sleeker more muscular body....... A lot of these pets look like little kids drew them.......

; border: 1px solid ; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10;">maybe if you put it in a rearing position, like its head tossed back and its front legs off the ground or something.

These kind of positions are better suited for things like redraws. The colorfill position should be neutral.

Hmm, I think the tail should be a bit longer and larger, it looks like a "pin the tail on the donkey" type tail rather than a tail that well ...actually looks like a tail that naturally attatched to the body. The paw'd feet look a bit smaller than the hooved ones, so I think they should be a tad bigger, but that could be an illusion from the fetlock, it just looks .. strange that way, though. The snout, I think should be a tad longer, and maybe wider at the end, it looks like a cat nose that was turned into a beak at the very end. I think the eyes should be a bit smaller, when I first saw it, I thought it was the chibi redraw. The body seems unnaturally short, making it look a bit more pudgy than it should. Somehow, it looks strangely effeminant, even to me who seems to relate everything as a male at first glance, I don't know why, but maybe its the shape of the "eye shadow" The head looks too large for the body, again, making me think of a chibi rather than official art.

Other than that, its really nice, I love the colouring and the shading its really lovely.

Looks awesome, shading and look wise. However, the lines look a bit shakey. I understand in the back it's suppose to fur/hair/wtfever - But, eh. A smoother line would make it look MUCH better.

I'd love Hikeis if it weren't for the hooves and paws. I know the pets are all fantasy creatures, but for some reason I just can't get past that. One or the other makes sense, but not both.

I think it's fine - the body is exactly the same as in the original version just shown at a different angle and with better art. Kudos to the artist! You did a very nice job of redrawing this it's really cute.

Ohmygosh. That really is adorable. One of the best redraws I've seen for a while The only thing I could suggest is thinning the body/neck out a bit. It looks all beefed up I do love it though. Kudos to the artist

I like the new one better. The old one's head is too big for its body too; they're just updating the art without changing the look too much, which is great.

The only thing I can say is it looks to babyish. I understand that they are probably based of ponies but making the head smaller couldnt hurt :3 They way the drawing currently is just gives off way to much of an SD/Chibi effect.
