I don't think the longcat should be removed just because of ridiculous behavior from certain 4chan members. As has been discussed already, longcat is NOT the property of 4chan alone. It is used on MANY websites and seeing as how Subeta is not profiting off of longcats there's no good reason to remove it.

I mean, look at it this way. The person who created the longcat image in the first place, who would logically be the copyright holder, is not coming forward and causing a big stink about it being used on Subeta. 4chan steals everything under the sun and likely stole the original longcat photo in the first place.

Unless keeping the longcat on the site would result in a CREDIBLE LAWSUIT and not childish internet spam attacks, then I think it should stay.

It's not causing any harm for anyone other than providing entertainment for a group of people looking for "lulz."

First of all, the logged out page isn't real. The link is merely missing the www in the URL, as a few links around the site are. (Pete, anyone?) Simply put the www where it belongs and it works.

Many people have said that Keith and the Staff are forcing their own wishes on Subeta, without letting the users decide. This Poll is to find out what the users want to do about Longcat.

Most of the *chans don't support the attacks on Subeta. 4chan is the biggest and could have caused some real damage, but they bowed out, and began deleting the raid threads. This is not a holy crusade to them anymore, they can see it for what it is - merely an excuse to pick on someone, and they want nothing to do with it now. The biggest portion of the problems are from 420chan now. 420chan is much smaller and less organized, but obviously more bored and looking for cheap thrills. If you have followed the 420chan threads you'd know that while a few say removal of Longcat and an apology from Keith (with or without the saucepan and/or pancake) would stop them from attacking, a large, large number of them say they will stop at nothing until Subeta is completely destroyed. Period. They are getting a kick out of doing this, because they call all Subetians "13 year old furfags" and say "yiff in Hell." They harrass people and post/send shock pics because they like to. They tear down innocent fansites because they want to. They hack people's MSN/DA/MyS/etc because it's fun to them. Giving in will not stop them.

Nothing will make them stop, aside from eventual boredom and loss of involved raiders. But giving in to them now could certainly make things worse, because then they would see that they can make outrageous demands and we will give in. Giving in to bullies never stops the attacks - it only makes them worse.

Did Keith egg them on? Certainly he did. What would you have had him do when they demanded we remove Longcat? Say, "Yes, *chans, I shall get right on that - and while I am at it, are there any other items you object to? Orly Owl, maybe? Let me delete them immediately, please and thank you for telling me how to run a site you have never even been to. Much appreciated."

Keith did an illegal DDos attack on a *chan - from his OWN site, the most successful one?? Come on, you don't really think Keith is that stupid, do you? I assure you, he is not.

They hate Keith because Keith is gay, even though they themselves are largely pedophiles and twisted sickos. They hate Keith because Keith is 17, and a kid shouldn't talk back to them. They hate Keith because Keith is a "dirty Jew" because Subeta has a Gold Holiday Star Necklace Charm which resembles the Star of David. All of these are reason enough for a lot of them to want to destroy Subeta. They make fake emails and posts from "Keith" which constantly contradict the other fake posts/screenies from "Keith."

420chan mistakenly thought Longcat was being sold for profit, and misunderstood Subeta's efforts to prove it wasn't. Thousands of Longcats were dumped into the Donation Center, so that any member who wanted to could grab one for FREE only enflamed them - because they thought (not being from Subeta themselves and having no clue) that the Donation Center meant you had to donate real money to the site to get one. Proving them wrong on that did nothing; they really do not care if they are wrong, they only care for maximum destruction and getting their jollies off by wreaking havoc and spreading misery.

Subeta is doing all it can do to make you and your account safer right now. Now you need to do your part too. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD! Make it something difficult, mix caps and lowercase, throw in some numbers and symbols if you can. Never use the same password for another site, so if they get one password, they don't unlock half of your life. Keep a handwritten list by your PC if you must. Do not post your real name or identifying information. Use caution when clicking links and browsing other sites. NEVER visit links from someone you do not know. Cookie grabbers are no fun at all, I assure you. There have been impersonators - Do NOT give your personal and/or login information to ANYONE, not even "Keith." Keith doesn't need your information, people. It's readily available to him.

And please, put a PIN on your account, preferably everywhere. Sure, it's an extra step when accepting trades, taking items/sP from your Vaults, etc. But it's worth it. And it's much, much more secure.

Best thing everyone can do it bunker down- turn your comments on your lookup to friends only, or turn them off totally. Don't open S-mails from strangers for a bit, and if you think it my be bad, don't read the forum topics.

Let the staff do thier job and it will be fine.

Man I have been away from this site for a while.

Anyway, I think it should stay. I think it is pretty amusing how 4chan is trying to have a war with subeta when they are unknowingly increasing its supporters.

Yesterday was the first day ever I repeat EVER that subeta has made it into the top 20,000 popular sites (look here ). That's a pretty big achievement. I hope it keeps going up.

I've been looking around 4chan as well, and can't figure a blessed thing out, except that there seem to be an awful lot of racist, perverted freaks there!

I voted to keep it, and I appreciate that you asked us. However, if it were up to me I would take whatever action the majority of staff favored, since they are the ones that have to deal with the worst of the aftermath of whatever the decision turns out to be.

Thanks Jess I think I get what the poll is about from reading the board here. I agree with barrymanglows opinion. I can live with out a long cat. And I like the idea of makeing another add on pet in its place.I agree its admerable to stand up for our rights but not at the risk of loosing the best web game sight I have even came across. I would be sooo lost with out subeta. I love dressing the avatar humans. Theres no other sight like this I have ever found.

All I have to say on this is, I don't like 4chan. I never have, and so I kind of see ths whole debate as being kind of pointless.
Lots of stuff from 4chan is circulating other sites that doesn't merit complaint? Subeta isn't making a profit off the longcat, so I see no real loss for 4chan. If anythng, this would introduce them to the site if they haven't already seen/heard of it.

4chan just isn't my cup of tea, and I don't agree with most of the decisions 4chan users make.
They seem to just like making a fuss worthy of an ED article out of absolutely nothing.

I will keep how I voted to myself as that is the point of private voting. However, my only comment at the moment is this - Thanks to staff for asking. This point alone keeps me coming back to this site - feedback is actually acknowledged and taken into account. Not like some other pet site I may mention!

The other option would be restrict user registration to invite system with inviting disruptive users can result in ban for offender and frozen account for the inviter. They can mail the staff to plead the case, but is this another hassle the staff wants to deal with?

I voted no. I wish there had been a third option of "don't remove it, just change it" because I would've voted for that in a heartbeat. I agree that most people don't know the "whole story" and I personally don't need to know the "whole story" as the first time someone hacked into Subeta and posted nasty pictures on our site, they lost any sympathy, support or even attention I would have given them if they had gone about things in a better way. This isn't even about the cat anymore so why not keep it...just maybe adjust it a bit?

Neither side is being mature about this. At all. Not the chans that are planning another raid, not the users who call them "big bullies" and think that they can get the chans taken down when this isn't exactly the first raid they've done in the history of ever.

I voted for removing the longcat--it's not worth it. Frankly, to stand up against a bully is admirable but not generally wise (it's just a good way to get beaten up, if you think about it). I teach my children the third option: Walk away.

I would like to think that you'd replace the item with something else rather than just POOF and empty spot where it used to be, but that's up to you.

Well I have no idea what a longcat is or what its suppose to do, guess thats my old age.. I have searched and searched the internet to get some kind of inkling of what its purpose is.. and find nothing except links back to chan..

My opinion is let it go.. this is causing a very very lot of stress on staff and members,, it is not worth it.. this site is awesome has been from the day I joined along with all my friends and we all dont want to see it go or the staff go.. does pixels really mean that much to cause friendships to split, sites to go down and just major stress.. no it doesnt.. I have seen alot of mail sent out that says some really bad stuff from certain staff that no one knows for sure if it has been tampered and changed and no one has offered an explanation on it.. so do not fuel the fire.. delete the cat and dont acknowledge them any more.. it will eventually die down as long as you dont fuel the fire..

Staff we love you and back you 100% along with all the subetan members.. lets keep this site up forever.. vote to let it go.. and lock new memberships maybe for awhile so they cant get in anymore.. and delete the ones you know..
