Oh goodness gracious. I think the site attacking us needs to get over it. It's a bunch of pixels. If they're going to be this silly about it then they don't deserve to have their demands met.

If we let them get away with this, what's next? Some other site item they declare we can't use? Or maybe they'll move on to some other poor site.

Taking down the Longcat is like telling them that they can get away with all of the disgusting things they're trying to pull. Like those terrible pictures. That was past offensive.

No, the Longcats have to stay.

Plus, it's a super cute item, well drawn, and I love it bunches. =D

Since it's not a copyrighted image, there's no legal reason to get rid of it. However... when is enough enough? I can see renaming it being a possible solution. Also, the other thing I wanted to comment on is the "removing or renaming the item won't solve the issue" comment. I agree that there will always be jerks out there willing to defile this (and other) sites, but wouldn't a responsible site do whatever it can to minimize that? I think this falls into that category.

I recommend we be the more mature of the 2 parties and back down. Of course that's just my opinion.

I think Keith just really needs to stop. I just signed up to check this site out due to the contrverse, but one of my friends plays it religiously. She got hacked and they got rid of her pets. Then she got frozen. She's very upset.

At one time you just need to know when to give up and just rename or get rid of the damn thing. It's just one item. The chans have repeatedly stated they will quit when you do. If Keith cares about his users he will give it up, instead of dragging all the users into this and egging on the chans. Aren't you guys sick of this yet?

If you had read on down the thread then you'd see that stepping away just isn't an option and would be pointless.
This isn't the actual 4chan group, it's renegade members mostly from the other group violating 4chan's own policies of no raids, no posting of personal info, etc.

Now I don't want this to escalate into something big but your statement shows lack of familiarity with /b/ I mean I don't get on it anymore unless through a link but even the "yiff in ****" is popular not only because many people are against it but because there are a ton of people for that stuff and post stuff like that. If it was for a huge number for maybe as high as a third the subject wouldnt be brought up to begin with. So the only reason that could be considered a motto is because a lot of people on there like that stuff and continue to post it back up. Subeta doesnt really pertain to that except in the most general sense anyway.

The basic point I was trying to make earlier is any publicity is good publicity, at least for a growing website. You can check a month from now I bet that 41,000 rank average will have gone up.

I say no. It's not harming anyone. I really like the longcat and it's really cool to be able to own one on Subeta. I see it as homage to the longcat. As long as Subeta are acknowledging that they don't own the idea and aren't making any money from it, it seems perfectly fine.

Jinzekyuns -- No, now it's about Keith's quote 'arrogance' and his returned attacks/eggings/teasings towards them (i.e., the source code messages and the Longcat LiveJournal [which by the way is VERY IMMATURE]).

LexiObahs -- the reason the actual owner of said Longcat hasn't come forward is because he's Japanese. Longcat originated from the Japanese image board 2chan, and 4chan adopted it as their own, and it spread to the other *chans. You can't expect the actual owner of the Longcat to come forward because some random *channers are attempting to destroy a website he knows nothing about.

I'm neither for nor against the Longcat staying. I have been slightly attacked by the *chans for supporting Subeta in the beginning, but as I've been stalking their Subeta raid threads, I've slowly turned more and more to the neutral side of the debate.

I have been on Subeta for over two years. I love the staff, I love the site, I love the items, pets, and the feel that I get from playing Subeta. I met my roommates for college this year on Subeta, and they're the best roommates I've ever had. Subeta is responsible for my living conditions and my happiness in real life right now.

However. They are also subject to my disapproval.

Keith and Subeta has their point, and the *chans have their point as well. Both sides are wrong and just need to stop this petty argument. The Longcat is not worth destroying half of Subeta.

I also greatly feel bad for PymaJac, who's had to suffer through all of this as being the starter (even though it was unwillingly) of this war. Also, for my friend NyauNyau, whom I've known for nearly seven years. She had all of her personal information stolen by the *chans, and it honestly scared me, and I confronted her about it. Luckily she found out before I did and had it taken care of.

If we must, I say re-name the Longcat to something else. This has gone too far, and I'm very upset that it's gotten to this point.

However, I am very proud of our strength and our ability to band together during this crisis and keep Subeta up and running despite the on-coming danger.

Please, someone settle this ... and quickly ...

What BlueGreenGrey said is absolutely correct, we HAVE to stand up now or they'll be back any time they get bored demanding who knows what. They'll start demanding the removal of any item they feel is even remotely similar to one of "theirs". So we can't back down, removing the longcat will solve nothing at this point and only serve to make things worse.

I voted yes, I don't think it should be REMOVED, perhaps renamed? Stretchy Cat? Lengthy Cat?

My opinion would most likely be different if I or a good friend of mine didn't get the.. "joy" ... of witnessing one of these immature acts of posting vulgar, distasteful, sickening, disturbing images, as well as offense content and language.

We shouldn't have to fear loading pages while we're playing. Its getting out of hand.

I am SOO thankful my younger brothers weren't in the room to see what I saw. OR my mom for that matter. This situation could have not only been subjected to my family, but I could have gotten my computer taken away. My moms mental enough about internet safety, this is NOT convincing her.

I love subeta, I love all the owner and admins do for the site. But someones gotta be the bigger person here. Someones gotta stop this madness. Its just getting old really fast.

One thing it ISN'T doing though is making me want to leave the site. So if thats what the goal was they failed. I do hope things get back to normal soon.

Thats just my opinion.

Personally, I've seen the cats all over the web. One site pokes a little fun about one of the most infamous web memes and a few people claim rights and ownership of an idea of public domain. It's yet another interpitation of the idea I have seen in countless flash files, gifs and Photoshopped images. And with the idea that this site had profited from it by the assailants not getting the facts straight, there was no way to get them to listen to reason or sway opinion as hostility was the first reaction, and that was the idea fed through the community.
The article in Encyclopedia Dramatica made it clear that there's a lot of arrogance in the argument that 4chan's /b/ owns much of what appears posted randomly. It's like claiming rights to images of Santa Claus, clouds, or the concept happiness.
