I wouldn't mind it being it being renamed or changed or deleted for that matter. This site is a great place, I don't want to see Keith suffer just for these pixels. My God, for all that is good, why do people do things just for white gray, pink and brown pixels? ._.

Trust me, Anonymous WOULD stop. VERY small amounts of people would continue to attack, and then it would fade into nothingness. This site is simply not important enough to attack for no reason. It is only being attacked because Anonymous has a reason to. Even if you find this reason ridiculous, it still exists. If that reason vanished, then Anonymous would also vanish from here.

Nestly: deep breath I don't hate Keith, but he isn't making smart decisions lately. He's been lying about a lot of things, and this whole thing could've been ended if he wasn't the 'prideful tough guy'.

At first I thought removing the longcat wouldn't do anything, and it was a stupid choice, but for crying out loud... Subeta is going to DIE if it isn't removed. The members here don't deserve all that's happening and all the lies and attacks, even if Keith is being unreasonable and provoking these attackers. ._.

Bugs, we have been saying it. There is no leader of anonymous, that is true. But if you know the history of the chan raids, this is always how it goes.
Subeta is just one in the long line of chan raids, failed and successful. I'm not gonna go through each raid and show you how it works, but ill give you 2 examples.

The hal turner raid went like this: channers prank phone call his site, hal posts their person info on his site cuz he has caller id, channers call in and tell him to take them down, he does not, lots of jibber jabber ensues, the channers attain the personal information of hal and member of his extended family and proceed to prank them, hal takes down the numbers, but puts them back up soon after. Names are called, people are taunted, the channers bring their full force (it actually wasn't just the channers btw, a couple other sites put there force behind it as well) and run hals site into the ground and nearly bankrupt him in the process. As soon as that was done, the raid stopped. It would have stoppe much sooner if hal had just taken down the peoples personal info.

Now a general example of chan raids that have no purpose or motivation. Some person posts some myspace information of their girlfriend who dumped them (yes, channers have girlfriends, and yes, people post stupid ideas for raids all the time), he subsequently gets made fun of and told to go back to bed or something.

This subeta thing could turn into a hal turner thing if it doesn't end here. the chans are bigger and stronger than subeta, try to play the game of attrition if you want, it will only end bad for subeta, and it might end bad for the channers (although, i'm not gonna lie, the channers really couldn't care.)

You really don't know how Anonymous works. Anonymous has a really short attention span. The Longcat is no longer the point, it is simply symbolic. Without provocation, the attacks would have stopped, or would be tiny. If the cat was removed, it would symbolize Keith stopping the provocation of Anonymous and they would stop. The cat is no longer the point, if you have seen how Keith has annoyed Anonymous, you would understand. As pertaining to "certain forms of pornography," that has nothing to do with this. It does not represent everyone that posts there, only a messed up minority.

even if we removed it i doubt they would leave us alone - theyre after subeta getting shut down and besides there nothing wrong with it - subeta didnt abuse the cat they make something beautiful that many people wanted - and now many people have. its image isnt tarnished or anything - EXCEPT from that the /b/ people did - so its their own fault. Subeta shouldnt have to deal with their crap. if they acted in a decent manner they would have had the issue resolved already - but theyre not so why give them anything they want?!

I don't really understand the hatred towards Keith, either. I've never taken the time to really peruse 4chan, but if it's true that certain illegal forms of pornography exist there, I don't see any logic in calling Keith the names that he has been called.

I may be looking at this from too much of a WWII perspective, but saying one thing and doing it are two different things. Example: Neville Chamberlain's peace accord. There are tons of 4channers working for roughly the same cause, how can one of those members possibly control all of their actions or promise that it WILL, in fact, stop? I'm all for peace among the two sites, but I don't know how anyone can say it will stop after the cat is removed. Especially when one person says wars can go on for 5 months (with provocation, I admit) and that channers "hate Keith more than Hal." You can say it, but at least back it up a little more substantially than "we'll have no reason to attack." You have no real reason now (in my eyes)... the longcat was not invented by you and neither is it copy written to you.

anonymous is also contradiction incarnate. Anonymous is the rectum of the internet. Everything passes through it. It is a place without taboos, so everything that is considred bad and shunned, makes its way there as well in addition to things not of that nature. It just turns out that there are tons of bad things.

If Subeta backed down, Anonymous would cease attacking. There's nothing more to it. In order for an attack to actually do any damage, sufficient interest would have to be generated. If Subeta stopped using longcat, Anonymous would stop caring completely. It's just that you don't understand the way Anonymous works.

This guy is right, Subeta members are missing alot of information, most of which would scare them if they knew it.

Trust me, if you give in and take the longcat down, Anonymous will return to their respective chan and declare themselves the winner. It's not like we're petty bullys that think we can push you around forever, we know what we want and that's all we want. We've just stepped it up since Keith's aggrovated us.

Well, if renaming it will help, go for it. I'm not all that attached. I'm just worried that if we bend now, we're just asking to be bullied later. "Hey guys, look at how Subeta did what we wanted because we raided for a week." I don't want this site to go down the tubes like other places have =/ I just think that one war, long as it might seem now, will help to protect us later. I just think that appeasement is always the wrong tactic.

You guys, seriously, saying don't give in to bullies and all that nonsense is just childish. There are actual real world effects of these raids. Unless you have the power to reverse them, just end it. Why drag it out for the sake of your pride.
If you knew the history of the chan raids, you would know that without a concerted purpose, they never work, and even when they do have a purpose, once that purpose is achieved they quickly die out.

God, why do i even bother. The people voting and saying these things don't care to educate themselves. Acting out of ignorance is absurd. I'm gonna go explore to vent.

I don't understand.
This site, created by teens for teens, that happens to create pixels of a cat with an extra long body that you wear on your avatar...

Has created an uproar from people from another site that is completely unrelated to this one?

Is that what this is all about? I have kindasorta been following the announcements, but I personally stay AWAY from the forums at all costs, because I know what happens there. So I don't understand.

I doubt I'll have any personal response from anyone, but if I do, don't harass me. Cause I'm clueless.

Bugs, that's precisely what would have worked a while ago. But it has gone too far. Removing it would be the best option, do you really care that much about the item? Also, the chans getting a poor reputation is a moot point. At times, child pornography can be found. Anonymous has no reputation to protect. They will simply continue to attack unless longcat is removed.

Personally I find both sides of this little 'war' to be idiotic. Keeping the Longcat is trying to save some ammount of site pride on Subeta. Just letting it go and 'being the bigger man' so-to-speak by getting rid of the dumb cat would be much more honorable that picking a fight in my eyes.

It's true; the fight was started for an idiotic reason and has resulted in many more stupid things /but it's not worth it/.

I don't see the point of removing the longcat. I see a shift in the attacks recently and it just seems that the 4chan attackers, or whomever else feels it necessary to attack, aren't as concerned with the longcat anymore. I think they're looking for a win on another one of their raids (and I have seen one or two of these on other sites). I can only hope that they realize just how poor of a reputation they are gaining by this. I think we, as Subetans, should take the mature high-road, refrain from attacking, refrain from retaliating on this site and just wait for them to leave. There is an Albert Einstein quote which mentions a long cat, so it is not an invention of any web site, not Subeta nor any . I don't think they have the right to bully us into removing an item that is not their original conception. I can cross my fingers and hope it does not get removed, since that would just set a precedent that Subeta is easily bullied. If the cat is changed, I only hope it becomes something especially nice

Politics are good in small proportions, but this has a sense of stretching on and on... Rather like a Longcat itself xD

There is no right answer to this question. Thats becuase the whole situation has gotten wildly out of control. Its no longer about who has, or who stole longcat. Its beyond that. *channers come up with stupid reasons to "raid" other sites all the time, but most of these never occur, most *channers simply dont care.
Sinfullysweet404s, you have the right idea, *channers are like a swarm of bees. Longcat has pushed them, and they are responding, it isnt right, it isnt principled, but that doesnt matter to them.
Voting "no" and keeping longcat "on principle" carries no weight. Im sure it feels better, and putting down bullies IS the right thing to do. But fighting chan websites isnt fighting just one bully, its a whole swarm of bees. They dont have principles, they've already shown that. They wont care until longcat is gone, or renamed. T
hey may not even care after that, but taking away the original reason for their attacks cant really hurt us.
This isnt about "winning" anything, i just want subeta to be a free website again.

It is all a question of getting rid of Longcat. If Keith had gotten rid of it earlier, nobody would be attacking right now. I think Subeta would have been able to keep Longcat if they gave some props to 4chan in the beginning, and it would have been cool. Some jerks would have attacked, but it would have been really small and gotten nowhere. The fact that Keith is basically taunting Anonymous is really the only reason they are attacking. Calling everyone on the *chans stupid is not going to help things!

That does make a lot of sense. But I'll never be for completely deleting the Longcat. Perhaps a name change but even then...gah.

Does the group even realize no profit was made off the Longcat? Are they simply misinformed or do they not care?

I've tried to read up on the group as much as I could but there are a few holes.

Many of you seem to think the attacks are only forum related which is wrong. Many of you don't have either all the information on what both sides have done, and probalby a lot of you don't understand how the channers think or see this.

I hate that they're attacking the users over this and people are losing their accounts. It's not fair. But...if we let them win I'm not sure they'll let up. Perhaps on us but what about other sites?

The situation is...gaaaaaaah. There seems to be no safe or right answer.

The fact personal threat have been made against Keith is even more scary. That's going so far over the line. Poor admins must be having a heck of a time.

I dont think they should take it off or change the name, it is what it is suppose to be and changing it now would just give them reason to complain about something else until they have made us all lose the comcept of subeta all together, if there were to be a next time, what item will they want us to change because they dont like it, It would never stop, So you youngesters that are giving all of us a place to come and play and work off stress keep heart and dont let them bully you into doing something that should not have to be done.

I voted no, over the principle of the whole thing. Why let bullies win? But at the same time, I don't want any users or staff of Subeta hurt, virtually or otherwise, by such a stupid misunderstanding on the part of the Longcat peeps.
Perhaps a Long-Tailed Cat would be a better item? (you know, the one in the room full of rocking chairs?) -grin-

Just let it go you guys. We can rename it, and the other side would still see it as an "Epic Win" and leave us me. We all know what they did to Hal Turner. Keith turned on the unlimited bandwidth, but someone's going to have to pay the bill sooner or later.
