Survival 2020!

It’s the time you’ve all been waiting for, Survival 2020! Gunner has been working hard with some Subetan businesses that wanted to sponsor strains this year for the Volunteer Infection Program.

Celebrate your love safely with the new items from L’amour Parlor!

You can purchase items from Louis by using candy hearts you receive by kissing on the forums. Use the following code in your status or on the forums.

If your tastes lean a little more underground, try visiting Skitters. He’s got some great items this year.

Don’t forget to pay your respects at the Survivor Memorial. Keep an eye out for these flowers, as they’ll either restock at Seedlings or float around the site!

You can also frag the flowers you find floating!

First year celebrating Survival? Or maybe it’s been a while and you’d just like to brush up on how the holiday works? We’ve put together a frequently asked questions thread for you. If you have any questions that aren’t covered in the first post, post and we’ll get to you as soon as we can.

Survival ends at 11:59pm on March 4th! Survival forums will close at 11:59pm on March 6th.

Not ashamed to say I'm a real kinky betch and I found the items unexpected/jarring and I'm not easy to stir. I hate to use the word 'trigger' but ultimately that's the only way I can describe looking through a cluster of similar wearables for a holiday go from innocent and tame to serious bondage. It's safe to say we have a wide mix of people on here, all with varying comfort levels with stuff like this. I think a conversation about this should be encouraged and it's definitely a tricky situation so the snark doesn't need to happen.

I am honestly pleasantly surprised about the number of fellow aces in this thread lmao I am so used to being the only one. (Plant gang rise up ????????)
I don't think staff could have predicted this, really. The items being risque isn't the problem, and I don't think many kids know of this site anyway, but I think a few things should be done to prevent this clusterf*ck from worsening.

  1. Rating maaaaay have to change. Maybe, maybe not.
  2. Heads up?/poll
  3. Kink/non-kink item diversity

------1 I don't know about this enough to comment, but don't think it would change anything anyway. I've been on and off this site since I was 13, though. lol

-----2 I think if team gave us a heads up on the nature of the particular content next time they post something ....potentially questionable, this wouldn't have happened. Most of us just kinda care that the wearable theme this year is ALL kinky stuff (unless you're into zambos which personally I'm not, RIP). Like I said though, all the non wearables are still incredible and thank you staff for giving us poor asexuals/fun-killers that. You already work tirelessly, especially with the abuse the server has taken lately.

-----3 For the other asexuals out there, most of us I think just care about the lack of non-risque wearables this time. Even as a sex repulsed ace, I don't really care about the items existing as long as I personally stay all the way away from sexual shenanigans. (I love that whenever we come out of the woodwork regardless of where we are, we have people attacking us for our existence. It do really be like that, don't it.)

I think it's a bit silly to be upset about the nature of the items considering some of the stuff we already have that's sexualized, buuut I can also understand that maybe it might be starting to push it.

I will end this post with a PSA: people are not immature prudes because they happen to not want to see fetishes shoved in their face, Nancy. Sex positive means accepting the fact that some people do not want it or care to see it and that is indeed healthy.

I see a lot of good points in the comments (and also a lot of not so good ones), but tbh, other sites with similar ratings have similar (if not worse) content. (Specifically thinking of GaiaOnline.)

Imo, if a child is young enough that something like this would be inappropriate to see in this context, I think their parents should be monitoring their internet usage, and checking that the sites they visit have appropriate content. It's not the site admin's responsibility to babysit children.

That said, I like the idea of implementing a filter for underage profiles, and, I can't remember what all is said when an account is made, but maybe have a popup that has the rating and what sort of "mature" content may be on site. Put a lil clicky box that agrees that that is okay, or something.

As for the items themselves, I think they're well done, though I did send a message to a friend all shocked because I'm one of those blushy pure types, lmao. I also love the pins (though I'd love more options like agender, and I saw someone suggest intersex), and the boxer dogs are cute!

But yeah. Kiss me? [kiss=Treat]

I'm not at all fine with minors being exposed to it, and never have been actually. The violence and gore would fall under a mature content filter hypothetically speaking. I really don't feel like a filter is too extreme of a request to make. It's a reasonable compromise in my opinion.

since this is a train wreck already, i'm throwing in my two cents: when i first saw the l'armour parlor items, my immediate reaction was a panic attack. thanks ever so much for throwing a bunch of items used to abuse me and my siblings into a holiday shop, with the double edge of them being used as bdsm items. i'm really, really trying not to get upset but for the love of life itself why did any staff think this was a good idea. all of the same theme items last year were perfect okay, they weren't overly sexual, and they didn't account for half the new wearables like these do.

at the very least can we get like a r rating warning in this newsblurb, or the 2020 tab of the parlor, because i can't be the only one who would've wanted a heads up/cw for this year's items.

regardless, i'm looking forward to the zombie strains as always. thanks for your hard work, esp on the site lmao i love the crash fest if i'm perfectly honest xD

I'm ace and my only problem with these items is younger players not knowing exactly what they are for. 16-year-old me from when I first joined would have been so confused. I was very innocent and naive before I saw more of the internet. Maybe the site's age should be changed to 16, or there should be some sort of option to hide the more adult content, but apart from that, yes it's a bit shocking, but not completely horrific.

First off, I’m not looking for a fight, I’m not saying other people’s opinions aren’t valid, I’m just a user giving my opinion and thoughts in case any staff are looking through this thread for feedback. Incoming long comment.

I was excited to go look at the shop but I gotta say...my initial reaction is pretty….yikes. I get that subeta is for 13+ audience, so some sexual stuff I’d understand (As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I have those kinds of items in my wardrobe for my HA.) but the whole….BDSM gear being a significant portion of the shop is...I don’t know, that’s just...it doesn’t seem all that appropriate? Now I’m not prudish, I’m not against BDSM or all sexual content, I’m not a sensitive person, it just seems like it’s not an appropriate set of items for what subeta is? I’m not saying teenagers don’t already know what this stuff is, I’m not saying even younger people don’t know what this stuff is. We’re in the age of the internet and kids/teens have downright shocked me with the things they say and do (and I’m in my 20s), BUT that being said, I don’t necessarily think that a site saying it’s geared for 13+ should be promoting so many adult themes.

If you think about it in a real-life setting, it wouldn’t be okay to promote this to minors. There was a Spencers in the mall where I used to live, and let me tell you, any time pre-teens or younger teenagers tried to walk in there, they got chased out by staff. Because there’s just a line that shouldn’t be crossed when it comes to that kind of age group.

The items are well drawn, it’s clear a lot of care went into them, and I can appreciate that. And it’s nice to see some different content. AND some of the smaller pieces can be worn with different items to not be as racy. In fact, if this was an adult website, I’d probably be supportive of these items to a degree for the people who want them. When it comes to the shop though, if it was just a handful of items, I think that’d probably balance it out more, but it’s literally most of the shop, which I think is part of the problem? Especially since BDSM carries an inherent very adult theme. There’s kind of a line that BDSM gear crosses. And for anyone who says “But not ALL BDSM!!” the types of items in the shop ARE that kind of BDSM. Down to the item types, their descriptions, etc.

It also feels a little dodgy to have the shop be a lot of fetish gear mixed with LGBT+ stuff. Now, I’m 100000% for LGBT+ rep in items, that’s fantastic, but considering the negative connotations with mixing those two things it just feels kind of like a step in the wrong direction. Already LGBT+ people have to fight against being fetishized; and for a very long time, being part of the LGBT+ community was basically synonymous with being a ‘sexual deviant’. So it just feels like...maybe this wasn’t the most appropriate mix of items together.

I do like the stuff in Skitters shop, I do like some of the items in the parlor (like the eyes, the non-butt plushies, the robes, Lyra, etc) I just personally feel like this was just a big step over the line. If Subeta was a 16+ site, I probably wouldn’t feel as strongly about this (regardless of the actual age groups of users) it just...doesn’t sit well with me. I also think some of the violence and gore is too much for younger audiences and I’m actually a FAN of gore and horror. There have also been things that were wildly insensitive that I thought were inappropriate on the site.

I’m sure the artists and staff didn’t intend for this to be bad. Maybe you guys thought you’d get a little backlash, but you all probably thought “ah these are cheeky! It’s all in good fun!” but...despite whatever intentions you guys had with these items, I think it just...missed the mark.

I’m usually a remarkably chill person and there’s a lot of stuff I’ll just roll my eyes about and move on with like “doesn’t affect me, I don’t have to use it/buy it” but this is just one thing that I’m...I don’t know, I just felt like I needed to say something in case staff are planning on taking in everyone’s opinions for future items or even just handling the rest of this event. I think a lot of this backlash from users as well as a lot of the user/user fighting could have been solved through maybe some better communication or polls or just...maybe exercising a little more caution in something that’s already been a subject of hot debate in the past.

It also really saddens me to see people in the comment section attacking each other to such a degree. As a community here, people should be able to voice their thoughts and opinions in a respectful manner and not run the risk of being straight up treated like garbage. I get that it’s the internet and people can suck, but we really need to stop being nasty to each other.

You know those people at conventions or pride that openly wear fetish gear, despite it being an event that includes minors? The people most look at in disgust because nobody consented to be part of their public humiliation fantasy? I'm reminded of that. "The pixels can't hurt you", you say. Okay... what happens when a minor wears these items and is approached by creeps, or even people who assume they're an adult because they're wearing it? When legal action is taken as a result because why the hell should someone as young as 13 be able to wear fetish gear on here to begin with? It wouldn't be okay irl, why is it okay online? If anyone would like to justify to me why anyone under the age of consent should be wearing a fetish getup, feel free. But trying to defend that... well let's just say it isn't a good look, and raises quite a few red flags.

The "Well, it doesn't teeeeechnically say anything sexual" or "You're just interpreting it that way, so it's your fault" arguments are reminiscent of a child playing the "Not touching youuu" game, and it probably wouldn't hold up in court. I truly love this site, and I personally don't want to see fetish items being the hill Subeta dies on. Why even take the risk? Minimizing my stance to "think of the children" is so disheartening, because when we start to discredit that, the easier it becomes for the safety of minors to be encroached upon. You laugh about it now, but predators lurk everywhere- no exceptions. I'm not a prude, a pearl-clutcher, overly sensitive, or any of the other things that have been tossed around in this discussion. I don't wish to be the bad guy or kill the fun. Under different circumstances I'd likely be supportive of the items, even if they're not my thing. I'm just genuinely concerned, and It seems many people have the "it doesn't affect me, so who cares?" mentality.

An open letter to Subeta staff: I realize nobody on the team had ill intentions. I know the last thing you'd want to do is endanger minors or disrespect anyone. You all work tirelessly for us and never for a moment did I think anyone had their heart in the wrong place. I think it takes bravery and integrity to own up to a misstep, which Subeta has done when needed in the past. I respectfully believe this is one of those times where it's in order. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. A mature content filter or reassessment of the age minimum (not even necessarily a removal of the items!) isn't outrageous or unreasonable, and I implore you to consider this side of things, even if I represent the minority.

The site is PG13. It matches PG13 content elsewhere, and it has roadkill pets, fetus pops, and penis flowers along with poop, fart and weed jokes. PG stands for Parental Guidance. We as parents ARE thinking of our children and if we'd let them play this site, and when you parent someone you can decide when you want to start them on PG13 content. The subetan community are not communally raising the teens who might find the site. We know what Subeta is, and if you didn't now you do. You can't just go around changing every PG13 space into a purely childfriendly game. There are other games for that which are wholesome, charming and devoted to it. I encourage other parents to let their children play on those sites rather than this one if they are offended by this content.

Reading through, this comment section is really a mess, isn't it?

  1. Does this have anything to do with Adam & Eve sponsoring certain social media sites? I know a popular YouTuber recently did a NSFW video because of his Adam & Eve sponsorship. That, more maybe it's because of the popular influence of other recent works, like Hazbin Hotel...but even Hazbin Hotel is clearly marked as "18+, for adults only". It's not PG-13, and doesn't pretend to be, either.

  2. As a former domme, and someone firmly on the ace spectrum, some of the behavior I see from people on this thread is downright appalling. There are also a few thinly-veiled attacks against asexuals. One post I saw below even purposefully left out aces out of "LGBT" as a very passive-agressive potshot at the ace people on this thread, basically excluding them from the LGBT+ community. Not only is that not cool, it's hateful, prejudicial, and discriminatory. Many aces - myself included - are not strangers to sex, and ace people can and do belong in the LGBT+ community. Excluding them from the conversation or discussion, or invalidating their opinions "because they're ace, and obviously don't have a say", simply because they disagree with you on how much suggestive content is "okay" is extremely insulting, as well as gatekeeping. Asexuality =/= celibacy.

  3. Many of these items look more suited to FetLife than Subeta.

  4. Subeta really needs to up its rating, especially since, as poll results posted on here have shown, most of the people on the site are grown adults.

  5. Anyone claiming, "they're not suggestive or sexual, that's your fault for seeing them that way"...I'm sorry, but that excuse is not only stupid as hell, but as flimsy as wet toilet paper. They're clearly based on BDSM / sexual pleasure items normally reserved for adults, and trying to obfuscate or come up with excuses that the equivalent of "nuh uh" isn't doing you any favors. Just admit the truth, and be honest about it. If it were something like, say, an item like a pressure reliever for autistic people (like me), that would be one thing...but they're not.

That being said, I can see both sides of the argument, but I feel that the Subeta staff really should have posted a poll about upping the site's rating, or at least about including more suggestive items, before actually launching the event. Clear communication and planning goes a long way to avoiding problems, messes, and misunderstandings like this in the first place.

Lingerie and lube are not pushing it for a 13+ site. Those two things are advertised on normal ass television. Victoria's Secret advertises on TV as does KY. I can find them freely sold in target and there is no age gate behind them.

No opinion on the BDSM stuff because honestly at this point 50 shades brought a lot of BDSM stuff into common knowledge anyway. And really a paddle or a cat o nine tails on their own just suggest old serious corporal punishment either in schools or on a ship.

Used condoms I would find inappropriate as they clearly suggest sexual activity but giving a riding crop to a barbie doll base isn't corrupting 13 year olds. You're allowed to be uncomfy with the items but that doesn't make them dangerous to children.
