I never really admitted it on-site until now but way-back-when, I was groomed by another subeta user who was already an adult. What an avatar wears may or may not contribute to minors being groomed but if someone truly wants to go after a minor, the lack of kinky human avatar items won't stop them. This person sent me hardcore yaoi content with underage characters, not the Giselle Kinky Love set (although the grooming started before that set was even released).

This happened a long time ago and said user is no longer active, but that point was kind of bugging me regarding this controversy. I'm still not taking sides here otherwise.

(Though I also definitely agree the majority of wearables should have been general items, not just the fetish stuff.)

Waking up to the forums of all things being down is just.....oh boy. I understand and appreciate the staff are working hard to bring it back up but really? Like said people have been begging staff to hold off on events when the site as a whole isn't even working right because that should be the priority. Now the event is pretty much not at all doable unless you're willing to come down here for kiss links or want to catch up to kissing back if you do that/have a back log.

Quests not resetting is also upsetting, though I understand that's minor in comparison to getting the forums back online. And again we have no news post, I had to find this out by waking up to messages in a few related discord servers. At least it happened during a time the site is less active otherwise I suspect there'd be a heck of a lot more backlash, but still. shakes head

I am a little torn on the new items. Some of them I will use in non-fetish HA outfits. The muzzle would be useful for a Loki cosplay for instance. Maybe it'd be less objectionable if there were more non-fetish items, but then for all we know Weretigress quit before she got around to making them. -shrug- I do feel like some of these are going a bit far for a virtual pet site not geared towards such hobbies. I am also aware that most kids know about this stuff by age 13 but that doesn't really excuse just anyone promoting it to them I don't think? Also aside from the super bulge pants my HA gear is from the Giselle Kinkylove set which has been here for... I want to say 10 years, give or take? So it's not new. Just less colorful and perhaps more realistic. And of course much more in the public eye than an old set that was kept in a costume trunk instead of a main store.

Anyway, I don't know what should be done about it, but that's not up to me. I'm glad. But yeah. Mostly neutral/conflicted here but thought I'd throw in my two cents and a link.

Honestly, I don't give a damn about the items, haven't looked up the new ones and don't understand 90% of what people are referring to here.

I trusted we'd have smooth sailing (plus the non-working stuff, of course) and didn't shout out at the mention of the start day before yesterday. Now I'm just AGAIN super unhappy, that we're having YET ANOTHER event on a still broken site. (My lament: I think I wasted a whole year of my life on Subeta in those 13 (?) years here, trying to get things done in spite of nothing running smoothly ever so often - my own fault for being addicted). A ton of people have been begging staff to refrain from events, when we cannot even succeed at getting the regular tasks done since the last server move.

Almost nothing reset today. 502s, 529s, application errors everywhere.

Sorry, BUG et all, no offence meant, I know you're working your butt off to fix things and are at least equally frustrated!

I love the bondage stuff. It's nice to acknowledge more areas of lifestyles. I can kind of understand where people are coming from with their objections to it...but it's getting blow way out of proportion. Kids know far more than people give them credit for. I think I saw my first porn when I was like 12 or younger. It's not fetishizing LGBTQ+ people by having the pins next to bondage gear. I've been to pride parades and have seen all kinds of fetishes and nudists represented there mixed it with all the different genders and sexual orientations. I've never seen anyone looking down on them. I don't personally get the leather dog thing, but hey they're not hurting anyone. I would understand if there were graphic sexual acts on this site, but there isn't any. Just items with certain themes. Does no one remember the Giselle Kinkylove line here? I mean these objects have been in movies without it being an X rating. I think people also forget that age of consent and sexuality is viewed differently throughout the world. Yes Subeta is run from the US, but age of consent and sensitivity to sexual themes are different across the globe. People aren't children anymore at 13. They're teenagers, they're going through puberty. Most, but not all, have sexual urges. Subeta I don't think has ever been a place for young kids. That audience always gravitated more towards Neopets, while teenagers and older came here. I think that a filter for underage accounts could be a good solution, or filter in general for mature content, but I also don't think it's THAT necessary. I'm have a severe phobia of vomit for various reasons. I don't expect there to be a filter for that anywhere even though it actually is one of the most common phobias out there. I know people find it funny. I have no idea why but whatever floats your boat. There is a phobia out there for everything, but every single thing in the world cannot be censored.

From a site variety standpoint, I'm disappointed that what seems to be the majority of the L'Amour clothing is kink related. Personally not interested in any of it, but that just means more hearts to spend on last year's things. I wish there was more variety, including some more 'outside' clothing wearables.
I am very uncomfortable with a large range of clearly BDSM/kink items being advertised on a 13+ site. Many of the comments below demonstrate my thoughts in a much more eloquent way than I could. Either Subeta needs to change its site rating or up the registration age accordingly, or some kind of filter needs to be applied to these items. To me, there is no way that these items could be construed as anything else than sexual, and even if there is a minority of minors on this site, their online safety needs to be taken into account. BDSM is absolutely not appropriate for minors. As said: it wouldn't be appropriate for an adult to wear kink/fetish gear in front of a minor at say, a convention, even if the child is not aware of the purpose of the item. Same goes for the internet.

And... not everyone wants to see kink, even if you're an adult! I It's difficult in this case to just... look away because well, it's a large group of new item releases.

Super problematic that the LGBTQ+ items are mixed in amongst the kink. Being LGBTQ+ should not be fetishized.
Thank you Bug for working on the forums, but it is disappointing that such an important part of the site has been down for what seems like hours and that we must all communicate using news posts. I would have liked to read the site update post, but since it's in the forums, I can't.

before i dip out bc adulting and stuff: maybe this is the kick subeta needs to actually start implementing tw/cw tags. i think every year since i joined, and pretty much always around survival at least, there were discussions about appropriately warning users of graphic content they may see as wearables, zombie skins, etc. there was a lot of upset around zombie strains that triggered people's trypophobia, the lobomeat drill was upsettie, just general over the edge body horror - ain't nothing wrong with it, and we pretty much know to expect it during survival, but by and large i feel a good portion of complaints would be appeased right off the bat with some tagged warnings. sure, others might feel such warnings spoil the event and ruin the fun, but slapping on a "cw: eye horror" can lead to so many possibilities - are we gonna lose our eyes? are we gonna grow ten thousand more eyes? is a giant eyeball gonna float behind us? the guessing games will be so fun :D

btw, i don't have any issues with most bdsm stuffs, you just happened to hit the one section that i get hella up in arms about. unfortunate tbh, because upon second and third looks i really like the new lingerie, especially the stockings. love me some lace <3

In terms of items, there are less non-kinky items than I'd like, but the existence of the kinky items doesn't bother me. I guess I would've liked more hair although I'm sure many users are already overwhelmed by the number of hair items. Idk.

Might as well throw my two cents in, everyone else has.

-I'm ace. I don't personally have an issue with sexual stuff. Some people do, and that's fair enough but this is not new to Subeta nor is it being forced on you. It's one page of one shop during one event.

-Comparing it to the zombies is flawed. Unless you set up a filter, the zombies and gore is all over the site anywhere you can see HAs. The clothing is not - as many people have pointed out, when worn it's less revealing than half the lingerie and swimsuits onsite.

-I don't want any of the wearables this year. I usually don't want any of the wearables from Louis, Valentines in general isn't my thing. I promise the world doesn't end when there aren't any items catering to your interests. Unlike the vegan debacle last Alegarten there's nothing here actively shaming vanilla people for not following a particular lifestyle choice.

-If players - kids or otherwise - recognise this stuff as fetish gear then they already know plenty about BDSM. If anyone innocent who doesn't know about it sees this, they will be mildly confused and not want to buy the items. How anyone's equating that with 'putting minors in bondage gear irl' is beyond me.

-I love the new pride pins but pride isn't seasonal, they should be moved out of Louis' shop and into a new regular shop along with all the stuff Quentin's currently selling.

-I thought the 13+ was a minimum requirement for legal reasons, COPPA and stuff like that, rather than the actual intended audience.

I'm very familiar with adult themes, porn etc. due to how long it took me to realize that I'm basically asexual, but man I just gotta say.. I'm tired from work and I legitimately did not realize the "slippy gels" were lube until I read the comments here lmao. Looking them over, I think one item description DOES explicitly describe it as a lubrication, but boy did I speedread that.

Anyway I won't get into the controversy because I'm tired and just now trying to return to Subeta after a few months of barely being here, so I'll try to keep it short.

While I probably wouldn't use any of the controversial new items on my HA, they're great for some of my pet TCs, which is always my priority anyway. I like the usual pastels and cute clothes well enough (even if I only change my HA once or twice a year, I do like seeing pretty wearables!) but it's nice to see some variety, even if this is also kind of a... jarring change in content compared to previous years, lol.

I think it is funny that people are all open about complaining about this - but I am sure there is at least one person who is outraged about the "different types of love" hearts c: It's all perspective and what each person feels. The only thing that worries me about the kinky items is the site rating. Didn't several YouTubers get in trouble for something similar, rating their videos 13+ because they did lots of "lets plays" of popular games but then having 18+ talks? i think we should all make non-sexual HAs with the new items, that way the people who need to complain can see that they don't have to be used that way. Sometimes you just have to look at things from a different angle.

But i agree with a lot of people, kids know what is going on more than parents think. And if the PARENTS are concerned then they can take the internet away from their own kids. I would be sad if Subeta didn't allow the content for everyone and put up blockers because some people feel this should be censored. If they feel that way then shouldn't the news and other things be censored too?

As for the bad reactions (from other's experiences with those types of items), I am sorry that it had to happen to you. These things should never be used like that. But again it comes down to if we censor one things because of a bad experience than wouldn't we have to do it for everyone? Some people are deathly afraid of spiders - should we then censor those things because it causes a bad reaction?

I believe that the staff here do a good job of keeping the items nice enough while still not making this site like a child game (unlike some sites). I applaud them at doing it amidst all this hate and complaining. They do their best each day for us to have a place to go to.
