A Very Unfortunate Downtime



Happy Luminaire to all timezones! For those of you that checked Subeta earlier today, you may have noticed an issue in the way that Luminaire presents went out. Unfortunately, an incorrect script was used to process the many gifts given by generous Subetans, and they were given out via the (much oudated) "stocking” method for many users. This caused an influx of sidebar events rather than the (much preferred) method of seeing your gifts gathered on one page. More importantly, and more detrimentally, it caused some gifts to go out more than once - a big problem for things like Custom Wearables or CSC cards!

We've spent the last few hours trying to figure out the best route to take. We considered manually deleting items, but we couldn't be certain which items were legitimately sent in multiples. We were looking at doing a rollback, but it's about the worst day of the year for that, (not that there's EVER a good time for a rollback) and wasn't possible to set up until tomorrow, meaning the site may have been offline for up to 48 hours. We obviously didn't want this to happen - not at a time of year where you want to be well-wishing your friends on the site!

So we've come to this: we trust you guys, and we don't think it's fair for you to lose any effort you've put into the site because of a mistake on our end. So we're asking you this: to please delete the items you may have received via the "stocking events". (HERE is a handy link to your events page in case you want to keep track of what you received)We ask you to take some time to enjoy the holiday while we work on our end to resolve this as quickly as we can. We will be updating you as soon as possible (this could mean it might take a few days) with the link to the Trees so you can open your gifts properly. This is a special time of year for everybody - including the staff - and getting things like this resolved is a lot more difficult for us.

If you did not receive any stocking related events, you’re in the clear and don’t have to worry about deleting any items. You’ll just have to wait for the trees to open, which we will make a separate news post about!

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience or upset caused, and as a goodwill gesture, you can now get a 1 Week Gold Account Medal via the free gift. We are also giving each user 250csc (added to your on-hand credits), putting a few extra gifts under the tree, and until Monday ALL quests are weekend quests.

So idk if this is part of the glitch or not but the people that ended up getting items by the bad script no longer have anything under their tree and they also don't show up in the gifts given page =/

On a side note, it's great you guys are doing extra to keep us happy. Let's just hope that the people involved in the glitch are honest enough to delete the items

At this point, I suggest just using the gift center to send presents. File a ticket and request me! I’ll help you clear things out if I can :) I might be able to help you with some programming magic. And trees will have a link that you hit. :)

Ok now that the 'shock' and 'disappointment' of deleting these gifts has passed I am noticing two things.

  1. I am grateful for Subeta staff for always being amazing and thinking of their users firsts, even when these errors screw their RL holidays, and for trying to work the best solution for us.
  2. I am both sicken and amused by the people who are hissing and creating drama in these comments, because I find it fun, but also wonder if they ever stop and consider how would THEY FEEL if they had made this error, and others would hiss and complain to THEM.

Seems like a lot of people are coming to the comments to cry about how they don't understand what they're supposed to do. Did you actually read the post??

Everything is explained rather well, don't turn up your nose because it's a big block of text. All of the information you need is in there, and it saves the staff from having to answer the same questions a million times.

Will be going through in a moment to see if anything is in my inventory. I hope that no one takes advantage of this and sadly I feel like some will. It was a mistake and it happens. Coding can be a pain to work with and errors can be expected. Thanks for all the effort and time you have put into this!

Can't we delete them when will they be given back? it's not that i not trust you (because things like that already happened before and all went good in the end XD) but just don't want to lose anything...if you assure me that everything i have now in inventory will be back i will delete them...(but i deleted my events =_= and i cannot know which are gifts and which are not...like those two: Bright Luminaire Tree Sticker and Luminaire Cactus Beanbag. Were they awarded by the site? I must delete them too? If you help me retrieve my events i will be more sure...for now i'm copying the names of the items that i have in inventory. If you will award the new gifts before i get a reply i will deleted the doubles ^__^

(and the rest of the staff) -- thanks very much for working so hard to get the site back up and trying to give us a little christmas cheer! I'm grateful for the time taken from the holidays for this.

I can't seem to load my inventory at all. The linked stocking page only shows me a few of the events (like 30 of them, and then Melody). I'm really not sure what to quick-stock delete because I can't only see 100 at a time (with a TON of lag) and I'm having some serious processing issues with the lack of image to reference. I have NO idea if any of these items are things I'm supposed to keep.

I know when I went to bed, I had nothing but two potions locked in my inventory, and that I might? have a gold account medal now??

but other than that ??? Who knows, it a mystery.

I think I need to give it a day or two before I try tackling this, if I'm to do it on my own (with supervising their villainy). Maybe when the site isn't exploding with christmas excitement to rifle through the wreckage. The big question I have is: will the trees automatically be opened, or can I safely take the time I need to delete things and then open the tree at my leisure?

I came in this evening to 58 stocking events then read the news post 3 times to make sure I understood it. I manually deleted all stocking items in my inventory (even with a bit of site lag and stalled pages loading).

I'm very appreciative that we also got csc as well. After such extensive downtime I was gunna be a little bummed if we only got an extra week of gold account, though that's nothing to sneeze at, and I know we only got it back at all because of your hard work on xmas, staff. But the extra csc is really nice. Can't wait to open my tree!

Really sad about the glitch and also the downtime. I was so excited for trees!! But I'm glad the issue's getting sorted. Also the GA Medal and other gifts are very generous, thank you staff!

ahahahhah ha ha... Oh dear.

A few issues:

First problem: I literally sent like half of their wishlist. It was split into multiple categories (there's currently 30 categories, I just rechecked). I just cherrypicked from all of them. I have no idea if the 3k+ events is equal to that or thats just a lot of duplications, but I guarantee I sent A LOT of items.

Second problem: I suffer from a lot of memory problems due to my health, and my roommate certainly wouldn't know any of the things I bought since it was a surprise. I have no idea how I'm going to compare. I'm not reliable at all to remember these details.

I'm very sorry to have added to the workload and stress of this mishap, and I appreciate all the time and the compensation already rolled out by staff. I just don't know what to do about it on my own. :'c

Mistakes happen, and I know how hard it can be especially around the Luminaire season to keep things in order. Thank you for being so on-the-ball to fixing things, and for being honestly the best staff team of any petsite I've been on. I hope you all get some much-needed rest before the year's out. You deserve it. Thanks for trying to make the best of a bad situation and for being so kind to your users. <3

oooh, dont mind my silly question bellow. it was just that ppl came to thank m for gifts and i was like "where do i open my tree gifts whaaat o-o?" i was dumb and didnt noticed it was part of the glitch too. :3 thank so much for your gifts as well subeta team, i have some csc goals but i am terrible saving, so thank you this will help me lots! ^^;

Thank you for doing your best to fix this, staff. I understand it must be very difficult to figure out what course of action to take when something goes so horribly awry. Hopefully those players that received duplicates won't take advantage of your trust, and the rest of Luminaire can be much nicer for everyone. Thanks for the GA, the CSC, and the special quests. :)

pardon, but...you call them "extras" but you don't really owe that item, they're duplicates of old stocking items. selling them, you will be stealing. you'll have your gifts, the presents other users have given you, in a couple of days. and I'm sorry for you if you think that the maintenance of a petsite (with the staff working during Christmas day to fix all the bugs) has ruined your holidays. Subeta isn't a paid-by-users site and you can't really pretend anything. The CSC and the gold account week are gifts the staff choose to give us, not something owed. Keep calm, please.

No worries about the trees being a bit late, jeepers the GA and CSC, those are brilliant presents! Thank you :) I'm sorry you had to work on the problem on Christmas Day, I don't know what time it occurred but I hope it didn't spoil your Christmas dinners and time with your families. Its lunch-time Boxing Day here already - this time yesterday we were in the middle of a sudden power outage for several hours. Just never know what will happen, lol, every day can be an adventure of some sort.

Yes, delete them all! The wrong script was run today (the stockings rather than opening trees), so the wrong method of releasing the gifts went out. There were some errors with it, too, where it overtimed and ended up sending people multiples of some items. In a few days once we get this sorted out completely, we’ll open trees where you’ll get your gifts the correct way :)

Thanks for working on Christmas for us guys! :) Hopefully you get it fixed soon. Instead of a week gold account medal, I'd prefer the Free Shop open, but that's me :P Happy Luminaire/Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah!
