A Very Unfortunate Downtime



Happy Luminaire to all timezones! For those of you that checked Subeta earlier today, you may have noticed an issue in the way that Luminaire presents went out. Unfortunately, an incorrect script was used to process the many gifts given by generous Subetans, and they were given out via the (much oudated) "stocking” method for many users. This caused an influx of sidebar events rather than the (much preferred) method of seeing your gifts gathered on one page. More importantly, and more detrimentally, it caused some gifts to go out more than once - a big problem for things like Custom Wearables or CSC cards!

We've spent the last few hours trying to figure out the best route to take. We considered manually deleting items, but we couldn't be certain which items were legitimately sent in multiples. We were looking at doing a rollback, but it's about the worst day of the year for that, (not that there's EVER a good time for a rollback) and wasn't possible to set up until tomorrow, meaning the site may have been offline for up to 48 hours. We obviously didn't want this to happen - not at a time of year where you want to be well-wishing your friends on the site!

So we've come to this: we trust you guys, and we don't think it's fair for you to lose any effort you've put into the site because of a mistake on our end. So we're asking you this: to please delete the items you may have received via the "stocking events". (HERE is a handy link to your events page in case you want to keep track of what you received)We ask you to take some time to enjoy the holiday while we work on our end to resolve this as quickly as we can. We will be updating you as soon as possible (this could mean it might take a few days) with the link to the Trees so you can open your gifts properly. This is a special time of year for everybody - including the staff - and getting things like this resolved is a lot more difficult for us.

If you did not receive any stocking related events, you’re in the clear and don’t have to worry about deleting any items. You’ll just have to wait for the trees to open, which we will make a separate news post about!

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience or upset caused, and as a goodwill gesture, you can now get a 1 Week Gold Account Medal via the free gift. We are also giving each user 250csc (added to your on-hand credits), putting a few extra gifts under the tree, and until Monday ALL quests are weekend quests.

There actually is a way to sort by recent. You set it to show items in wardrobe in one of the scroll downs. It puts it in order. Just under a different name.

Also, holy shit, the salt is real. Taking advantage of site glitches IS and always has been against the rules, and grounds for warnings and freezing of accounts. Of COURSE you don't get to keep the potential hundreds or even thousands of items that you shouldn't have received because of a script error. Delete them and quit whining. The staff didn't need to give us anything to compensate for the down time while they fixed the errors; you should be grateful they didn't just shut the site down for a couple days to fix it and delete everything themselves. If a virtual pet site having some errors and not getting to keep a bunch of things you shouldn't have received ruins your Christmas, you need better priorities. There are a million other things to do, even if you don't celebrate Christmas.

Wow what a mess! So sorry this happened today. The Subeta staff is awesome, as always, and obviously spent a lot of time on their holiday figuring out how to fix things. I am very grateful for the way they do their best to keep us informed and for the many ways they show that they care about the Subeta users. I also really appreciate the fact that they decided to just trust their user base to do the right thing, I can't imaging that happening on most other sites. We are so lucky to have this kind of support. Thank you so much for all the extra gifts. Wishing everyone on Subeta, staff and users alike a very happy holiday season. Hope you all find time to be with your family and friends.

This is why I quit Neopets in favor of Subeta (okay admittedly there's a host of other reasons, however). When there's a problem you guys are quick to let us know what's going on and are quick to fix the problem. But not only that but you appreciate the fact that it inconveniences some of your users and you make up for it so nicely, so above and beyond what is required--- it's just a really nice change of pace from what I am used to. Thank you for the CSC and the week of gold time. I'm really grateful for the way you apologized. I hope you all have a nice Christmas, and that the hiccup didn't pull you away from your families for too long.

haha, well my problem is there was a glitch last week and half my friends list disappeared and I didn't notice til last night and I couldn't fix it. I just went to go fix it but since people are missing I gifted some extra (not that that matters) but I noticed you mentioned it's best to send gifts through the gift center, can I be sure my items aren't lost in limbo?

Yes, those were given to you by Melody (which you’ll get again from your tree when we open them). So delete them. :) I can’t bring back your events, but just look at everything in your inventory after the last melody item night you got (I always have my inventory set to timeline) and that might help you a lot more for what you should be deleting. :) Don’t worry about the trees looking sad without presents, we’ll fix that ;)

Delete all those items. They didn't lose anything at all but it was given out with the wrong script and wasn't supposed to be doubled or tripled. So delete them, please. :)

I think it's a nice thing to add to the bottom of the news post (bold preferentially): "Delete everything you got from stocking events and you'll still get everything people gave you in a couple days when we fix it and open the trees,"
