A Very Unfortunate Downtime



Happy Luminaire to all timezones! For those of you that checked Subeta earlier today, you may have noticed an issue in the way that Luminaire presents went out. Unfortunately, an incorrect script was used to process the many gifts given by generous Subetans, and they were given out via the (much oudated) "stocking” method for many users. This caused an influx of sidebar events rather than the (much preferred) method of seeing your gifts gathered on one page. More importantly, and more detrimentally, it caused some gifts to go out more than once - a big problem for things like Custom Wearables or CSC cards!

We've spent the last few hours trying to figure out the best route to take. We considered manually deleting items, but we couldn't be certain which items were legitimately sent in multiples. We were looking at doing a rollback, but it's about the worst day of the year for that, (not that there's EVER a good time for a rollback) and wasn't possible to set up until tomorrow, meaning the site may have been offline for up to 48 hours. We obviously didn't want this to happen - not at a time of year where you want to be well-wishing your friends on the site!

So we've come to this: we trust you guys, and we don't think it's fair for you to lose any effort you've put into the site because of a mistake on our end. So we're asking you this: to please delete the items you may have received via the "stocking events". (HERE is a handy link to your events page in case you want to keep track of what you received)We ask you to take some time to enjoy the holiday while we work on our end to resolve this as quickly as we can. We will be updating you as soon as possible (this could mean it might take a few days) with the link to the Trees so you can open your gifts properly. This is a special time of year for everybody - including the staff - and getting things like this resolved is a lot more difficult for us.

If you did not receive any stocking related events, you’re in the clear and don’t have to worry about deleting any items. You’ll just have to wait for the trees to open, which we will make a separate news post about!

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience or upset caused, and as a goodwill gesture, you can now get a 1 Week Gold Account Medal via the free gift. We are also giving each user 250csc (added to your on-hand credits), putting a few extra gifts under the tree, and until Monday ALL quests are weekend quests.

I appreciate all your hard work. I got some books x 3 that are cash shop so I am going delete the extras. I just wish I knew about the wizard tokens. I tried to copy and paste the events to a notepad, but I deleted my events so I hope I get them right. I would never take anything dishonestly. So sorry you all had to work on Christmas. Thanks for everything.

so i wasn't on during the whole downtime etc but when i came on i did have the stocking events.. so i started going through and have been deleting the items but now i have had several of my friends tell me that i disappeared from their sent items page and they can no longer see what they have sent me. Will this cause an issue with me re-receiving the items, i have now deleted, when the actual trees get opened in a day or two ? I just wanna make sure cause several of them have come to me with this same issue.

Actually, business such as fast foods and big retails are mostly closed. However, some places MAY be open with a small staff (mostly one to two person). They also close earlier and open at around 1pm for the Boxing Day. While we talk about it, Subeta is a virtual website run by a very short-staffed base. We are nowhere getting asap answers like Amazon (or any other online retail store) provide, but they are good at handling things most of the time.

Am I sad because I don't get my gifts? Yes. Because it's mostly the only gifts I'm getting for Christmas. I've been sitting there since 6 am this morning. Am I sad that my Amazon delivery was delayed because my box was left behind because of the short staff? Yes

I really wish everything turned out okay. I really wish everyone could have gotten their gifts, thanked their friends and were legit happy. I am also very thankful that we have gotten an answer from the staff and that they have taken care of answering us, instead of spending time elsewhere drinking a glass of wine while the site shit itself. I understand the salt, but it's like aunt Ginger who forgets you because her husband Ricko forgot his denture somewhere and your gift ended up in the bathroom and the cat decided to do a slippy-slide with it.

I'll go with the Grinch motto: Cheer up dude, it's Christmas.

Don't compare your real life issues to a glitch on the site. I really don't understand half of what you said to me because none of it even makes sense. I mean honestly, You boogle my mind with your ignorance. Those ITEMS you got aren't yours. They were handed out as part of a glitch. You don't deserve them. You will get 1 of those items when trees open, but honestly, you don't deserve any. At all.

Like honestly, Are you an adult? Because you really don't act like it. You are right, I am judging you purely by the comment because your whole entire life is RUINED because of a glitch on the site. You know what, keep the items. I hope Subeta makes the decision to remove you from the site. We really don't need a greedy Grinch. Remember using this site is a privilege not a right. Don't think for a second that you won't be reprimanded for your insolence.

I just want to say thank you guys so much for working so hard! You guys did a great job keeping users updated on social media, taking care of the rather serious issue, and compensating (to be honest you guys gave a lot of compensation!) I was off for most of the day caught up in celebration, and got no stocking events, so it didn't really effect me, but that is my take. This is my first Luminaire on the site, and despite the glitches, was enjoyable (just seeing how the staff interacts with the community and handles unexpected situations says a lot!) Good job you guys and Happy Luminaire! (:

Also @ everyone whining about not getting to keep their glitched items, go eat some year-old fruit cake and sit down.

I'll be deleting the multiples of the items I've gotten. I noticed that most of the items from my friends have are in 3's, which... isn't right, haha.

Wow! I'm so sorry for the headache you all are dealing with! Thank you for being so upfront and thorough with it, and for putting so much thought and effort into getting it taken care of. I appreciate the generosity in trying to make it up to us, and the trust you're putting in your userbase to get rid of the glitch items. I hope it doesn't completely ruin you're RL holiday if you're celebrating and hope you still have time for some good times. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year everybody! :D

Thank you for pinging me and letting me know what is going on. Today is the first day in over a week that it is not raining and i popped online earlier to see what i got on my tree between loads of washing and was like o.O no love for Kat this year xD. Like i said I didnt receive any events so I dont need to worry. I really appreciate the free csc subeta staff as im off work till the 14th of jan and dont get paid again till the 23rd of jan and i was sitting here wondering if i can scrape together enough cash to grab the new cash shop challenger item. Then poof i have 250 csc and i can get it. I have to say i play neopets also (though i am not very active anymore) and when they stuff up over there they are never ever admit they messed up much less try and compensate the mess up. You guys rock seriously!

Yes, but how would you feel if someone knocked over several punch bowls all at once, handed you a Twoonie, then handed you a mop with a quick, "Good luck pal," before leaving? That's how I feel right now.

And as I explained to Glir, you don't know what I go through on a day to day basis, you don't know how hard I work, so it's a moot point to even bring up in the first place. I also mentioned that I'm tired and just want to relax. Do some dailies, play some flash games and not have a second life that I need to tend to.

Also, try and remember that this is a business. There would be people working on the website regardless of the holiday; just like how there were people who were working at McDonalds today and will be through new years. Not all businesses close because of the holidays, (and really, the holidays aren't a good enough excuse for some to close,) online businesses especially so, sorry, it's not much of a sacrifice on the staff's part to be here, doing the job that they would do anyway.

What made you think I was going to take advantage of this? I just believe we should be allowed to keep the extras as compensation over the 250csc and 1 week GAM. I can see I'm not allowed to ever be upset about anything, have a bad day and/or voice an opinion that goes against the grain. Please, forgive me for not parroting everyone else's responses. Although a few people have liked my comment so clearly I'm not alone in my position, but even if I was, I would still say it because holidays or not, people need to be told when they do bad and I have a right to express myself as I am in the moment. But whatever, label me and kick me while I'm down. That's the Christmas spirit.

Oh, good evening Mr. Scrooge. Could you be a fellow and help me out with all these gifts I have to carry to the family dinner tonight? I'm running late. :P (No, seriously, I am but I'm stuck waiting on my ride so why not respond to all this in the mean time?)

I really don't care that it is. I've already explained why this upsets me so I won't go into much further detail. I currently have 40k in my bank and 308k on hand. I went broke trying buy for my friends on here, plus trying to save whatever I could for enough money to buy CSC so I wouldn't leave waiting on a promise I was late in keeping due to unexpected illness.

Are you serious? I use "extras" in the place of "duplicates" for the sole purpose of it being an easier-to-type synonym, and you're labeling me selfish for it? Says a lot more about your mentality than mine set but hey, thanks for being so understanding and full of Christmas cheer. :D

By the by, it's not the maintenance that bothers me. In fact, I missed the entire down time. It's this glitch and the resulting consequences that are pissing me off. Subeta's staff aren't the only ones working hard. I've been working my ass off while sick to try and have a Merry Christmas and due to even the Gods being apparently against me, I wasn't even able to get my tree up and it's a three-foot-fake. (Too give you an idea of how easy it should have been and how chaotic it actually has been.) I'm so tired and I just wanted to sit down and see what my e-friends got me for Christmas. Now I've got yet another task to do and it just broke me like a pipe to the shins.

As for them not owing us anything, that's somewhat true but not a very wise business decision. Especially after making us clean up the mess? Yeah, I have to disagree, they had to make this up somehow, though I think 500csc would've been better. At least then there's a chance of everyone being able to buy a CW for themselves or their friends that way but I'm just overly generous like that.

Unsure who to ping, so I did both since you said you were answering questions!

I was online after the "stockings" opened but for like 10 minutes before the site went down. I didn't realize that this wasn't how it was supposed to go, and ended up doing things like feeding my pet some of the wishlist items, and reading them books... What do I do if some of the items I got are essentially already gone and I can't delete them?

:) If you didn’t get any events that said something along the lines of “You open your stocking and x drops out”, then you’re fine. Just wait until we open trees for your gifts <3

There was an error with a script, trees will not be opening yet because of it, Any items you received already through the other script need to be deleted.

All items received through the script that generated the error should be deleted.

Some were given out by accident. They're fixing trees now, and sometime in the next few days, they'll make a new news post to tell us when we can open the gifts under our trees. :)
