A Very Unfortunate Downtime



Happy Luminaire to all timezones! For those of you that checked Subeta earlier today, you may have noticed an issue in the way that Luminaire presents went out. Unfortunately, an incorrect script was used to process the many gifts given by generous Subetans, and they were given out via the (much oudated) "stocking” method for many users. This caused an influx of sidebar events rather than the (much preferred) method of seeing your gifts gathered on one page. More importantly, and more detrimentally, it caused some gifts to go out more than once - a big problem for things like Custom Wearables or CSC cards!

We've spent the last few hours trying to figure out the best route to take. We considered manually deleting items, but we couldn't be certain which items were legitimately sent in multiples. We were looking at doing a rollback, but it's about the worst day of the year for that, (not that there's EVER a good time for a rollback) and wasn't possible to set up until tomorrow, meaning the site may have been offline for up to 48 hours. We obviously didn't want this to happen - not at a time of year where you want to be well-wishing your friends on the site!

So we've come to this: we trust you guys, and we don't think it's fair for you to lose any effort you've put into the site because of a mistake on our end. So we're asking you this: to please delete the items you may have received via the "stocking events". (HERE is a handy link to your events page in case you want to keep track of what you received)We ask you to take some time to enjoy the holiday while we work on our end to resolve this as quickly as we can. We will be updating you as soon as possible (this could mean it might take a few days) with the link to the Trees so you can open your gifts properly. This is a special time of year for everybody - including the staff - and getting things like this resolved is a lot more difficult for us.

If you did not receive any stocking related events, you’re in the clear and don’t have to worry about deleting any items. You’ll just have to wait for the trees to open, which we will make a separate news post about!

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience or upset caused, and as a goodwill gesture, you can now get a 1 Week Gold Account Medal via the free gift. We are also giving each user 250csc (added to your on-hand credits), putting a few extra gifts under the tree, and until Monday ALL quests are weekend quests.

Gah, it hurt my soul to delete all those lovely gifts. And looks like I'm gonnna be saying a whole new round of thank yous too lol. But THANK YOU staff for working so hard to fix this issue. Shit happens, and it's no problem to be a little patient. :)

I understand closing the donation center so people don't accientally donate the dupe items in theory, but when donate is still an option in quick stock and on the individual item page, the (in this case entirely legitimately gained) item goes into cyberspace never to be seen again.

Surely removing donate from QS would be more useful?

I got pics of my inventory before I deleted everything. This will be a story for show and tell in years to come. I'm more amused than anything else and I know this would have been a hard decision to make.

First, thank you Subeta staff for being so informative and for the gracious gifts. That was too sweet of you guys - I hope things clear up on your end and you all have a Merry Christmas!!

Second, I honestly don't get who would even be upset right now and why like nothing is lost, just delayed, and rather than just take things and scare people staff TRUSTS them I'm sorry but that's like, really huge and so so sorry that you feel it's more work but they've been nothing but gracious to those pointing out dilemmas in figuring out the gifts like, if people who are upset would just come forward and say they need help or are worried the staff is obviously more than willing to help you figure it out. Stop wallowing/pouting and just reach out your hand. There's like seven staff members ready to take it and help you sort this out.

I just want to say thank you to the Subeta staff... It can't have been much fun having to put aside your own holiday time for the hours it took to fix this problem. Happy holidays!

That's what I love about you guys. Sure you do mess up stuffs and things sometimes does not work (site crashes, bugs, lags etc) but Subeta's staffs are the few that actually openly say "sorry, we did wrong" instead of giving out excuses after excuses.

Thank you for your hard work, specially on a day such as this.

I am sorry I did not read this all. My computer is horrible and lag has been a problem. She read three books. When I figure that out I will tell staff so they can delete them off of her read books. So sorry again.

I'm having the same issue is having. Someone I sent gifts to is now no longer listed in the "gifts given" page. I don't know if it's because I gifted her last night or because she was on during the glitch... Hopefully that is resolved.

I recommend sorting your inventory by timeline, the stuff you bought before/after getting the stocking events should be easier to see that way! You can then put them into your vault or something and mass delete the stocking items with quickstock :)

Fear not! Once you delete these, Subeta will release the trees and you will get all your gifts back :) Staff said it should be working properly soon. You don't lose anything at all.

Yes, Subeta is a business. And like when you accidentally receive more money from your bank than you rightfully were owed, you have to return it. A one-week gold account and 250 csc free for every user? That's a LOT of potential profit that they're just giving away. Not only that, but they're working hard on a day they weren't supposed to in the first place. You won't get this with a lot of businesses in the United States (which is where Subeta is based, regardless of where you may live). You've got a problem on Christmas Day? Tough cookies, call back tomorrow. I'm reading your reasons for why you reacted as you have, and all I'm seeing is "I'm upset and I work hard, so appease me by giving me more free stuff." And like you said, Subeta is a business. They owe us nothing. You claim that because "not all businesses close on Christmas", Subeta should be fully staffed and ready for emergency like it normally is and we shouldn't show them a little bit of sympathy because they had to work on this all day instead of spend it with their families or relaxing like they should have been able to do? That's just selfish. Most businesses aren't open today. Even Walmart, a giant corporation known to not give a shit about their millions of employees, is closed today. Because people deserve a break. Even if they don't celebrate Christmas. Hell, Kwanzaa starts tomorrow. There are Yule festivals occurring. It's very common to close on Christmas day. Almost all the staff members are in the US. It doesn't matter that this is a website. There's no reason to throw a fit over having to click "select all" in the delete section of your shop quick stock. You made it pretty clear that you were angry that you didn't get to keep the extra items, so yes, the issue was that you didn't get to take advantage of a site error. There's really no getting around that one. Sometimes, shit happens. I'm sure no one was happy about the site error and having the site down for a chunk of the day, but it happened, and now they're just asking for a bit of compliance with the situation (which will take no time at all, really) and giving us a free week of gold account (in the form of the medal, which you can sell if you're so upset about csc costs) and 250 csc absolutely free. Subeta has thousands of users. Think for a second how much money that is. No one is just "kicking you while you're down", like you're suggesting. You can't really expect to say such rude things on a public forum and not expect some people to be upset. It's pretty much the same as going into a store and starting to yell at the employees because you don't like something they did. They're just doing their jobs. It's Christmas. Most of them are off for the day. Chill out and wait. Subeta doesn't normally let you open your presents right away on Christmas anyway, and it even says on the gift giving page that you'll get your presents at the end of the month. Last I checked, there are 6 days left before the month is over. They never promised you'd get your presents right away on Christmas day. They've done nothing wrong. The script errors were an accident. There was no reason to throw a fit, and it definitely shouldn't be the thing that ruins your Christmas. It's just a website. They're just virtual items. Have a drink and do something else for a while. Grab a beer or something.

Thanks to the staff for handling the glitch and the gifts to make it up. Nobody really wanted a mess for xmas day, or having to spend the whole day fixing the mess. I'd rather let them fix it because it's a serious issue. We shouldn't let the duplicates happen again like previously. Otherwise, could you imagine what happens if everyone can just clone their items for free several times by gifting them every Luminaire? D:
