I had a feeling it'd be a popular thing to do!

My only problem with managerial roles (apart from hardly any extra pay from my first employer) was that you were always meant to aspire to be promoted - you were never allowed to be content with the level you were.... and I never wanted to be a store manager, as I liked the level I was at (where there was always someone more senior who could deal with anything I was out of my depth with!).

The steamtrains are very charming and look really nice on the inside as well and it does make that old fashioned shoo shooo sound. lol

That is fair enough. If you are happy with the position you are in, why mess with that. :) To me that is the best thing about being a regular worker, other people get to deal with the problems. :P

and if you get the right location, you can get a much better photo than everyone standing on the platform right next to the train (click and drag to the address bar to see it full size) I was actually standing in the station car park to take that photo, as you could only get onto the platform that side if you had a ticket - not the most scenic of photos, but better than some areas on that track!

I've never actually been on a steam train - I might see if I can get as far as the local heritage railway at some point!

nods my boss (the store manager) said he just pretended to want the area manager's job, even though he was quite happy at the level he was. It all just seemed false to me - why couldn't we just admit we didn't have any desire to get promoted? o.O

True. A bit of honesty would make things easier for everyone. Companies can be so weird. It is kind of funny almost to read ads for open positions. They all seem to be filled with the same clichés. :P

that was actually at the railway station in town! The view in the opposite direction doesn't have any trees, but I never get into town early enough for any steam trains arriving from London direction, so all my photos are of the trains pulling into the station on their way back in the afternoon ;)

nods most stores now all use exactly the same phrasing for their jobs, or they've employed head office staff that came from other stores and brought those ideas with them :P

hehe well, I can only cut straight if I have a pattern to cut around, or if I've drawn a straight line to follow :P and even then it's not always 100% accurate!

I've had an extension given for my current sewing blog project (a sweater), seeing as Gran dying was somewhat unexpected.... but really I want to get that one finished before next month if I can - I don't really want it still sitting there half finished in December ;)

Your town seems to nice! Maybe a ("train) trip through England should be next on my list. My mum and I did talk about visiting Ireland some day.

And they all want people that are super outgoing it seems like. Which does not fit me. :P I know I am good at dealing with customers, they loved me. But outgoing is not something I am going to be. Especially not during a job interview. o-o

It's definitely a nice mix of city centre and countryside :) You don't have to go very far from the main city centre to see fields ;)

Yeah, I don't understand why places seem to think all their staff should be really outgoing.... when I got promoted to the customer returns desk, there was one member of management who didn't want me to have the job, as he didn't think I'd be strong enough to stand my ground if a customer insisted on a refund they weren't entitled to.... he admitted about 6 months later that he'd misjudged me 😇

Or just use different sized scissors - if I use really small bladed scissors, I tend to end up with more of a jagged line than if I use long ones (although the long scissors are a lot heavier and harder to use for a length of time :P) ;)

That is the ideal mix for me. I love being close to the city where I live now, but still feels more like the country side. Good for you proving him wrong. :D I imagine that must have been satisfying. 👼 I heard about people returning christmas trees after christmas is over- and not talking about those fake trees here. Customers can be fun and are not always reasonable. :nods:

o.O now that's just crazy! I was warned that some people were buying bridesmaid dresses for a wedding, and returning them after they'd been worn, but thankfully I only worked in that clothing shop temporarily for a day as their customer returns person wasn't in :P

I am never far away from the sea which is nice. :D I can even walk into the city if I want.

Now that is some level of rude. o-o And then they expect the store to be okay with reselling the used dress I suppose? Just weird. I could never do that. If I return something it is not used. Common sense.

nods it's not the worst thing I've known to be returned, but apparently that's a common thing for people to buy clothes for events (like a posh dress or something) wear it to that event, then return it and hope the store doesn't realise you've worn it for a day / night o.O I agree with you though - if you've used something, the only time you should return it is if it was faulty!

I've never tried a rotary cutter, but I think that'd be quite challenging to control where it was heading :P
