yeah I can imagine that the cheaper stuff probably doesn't have much goodness in there! Having said that though, when we had Sid, we had to swap from brand-name seed to a generic pet shop variety that was a lot cheaper, because they changed the mixture & he refused to eat it o.O

Cats need a diet of mostly meat. Yet some people think it is okay to feed them a vegan diet.. because they refuse to have animal products at home. What do they think wild cats eat? o-o
Makes sense. You can't let the poor birb starve. :)

I've never understood that - I mean I know why people choose to be vegetarian or vegan, but I can't see how that's right to inflict that on their cats (or dogs)!
I think they changed the mixture again after that, as when we got Sparky, the branded seed mix seemed to be back to how it used to be when we had Bertie (back in the late 90s / early 2000s) - if they'd stop messing around with the mix, they'd keep a lot more customers!!

It is quite ironic, they go vegan for their love of animals, which is fine, but then they think it is okay to force a diet on an animal that can potentially kill them? Try talking sense into people like that though, and you are bound to want to hit your head on the desk.
They probably would. Our budgies never seemed to be that picky with their food thankfully.

sorry ladies, I've been sick since Saturday and just don't feel up to chatting -hugs- And our ac isn't working so that just makes this even more "fun"
that's very true! I found that if I come across anyone with really strong views like that, it's a lot easier just to ignore them :P
None of the others were ever fussy, but I think it was the smell of whatever they'd added into the Trill seed that Sid didn't like.
hope you're feeling better soon squishes gently Any chance of getting someone to come and fix the AC or will that have to wait until you're all feeling better?

Ignoring them is probably best, as you are not going to change their mind anyways. ;)
That could be. I wouldn't even know how strong a budgies sense of smell is. :P
Sorry you have not been feeling well. I hope you feel better soon and that the AC can be fixed sooner rather than later. :hugs:

nods there's definitely no point in trying to engage them in conversation about it!
That's a good point actually.... although for that particular box of seed, it was really whiffy (I couldn't get close enough to it to get the seed in the seed hopper) so I don't think Sid would've needed a really great sense of smell to pick that up :P

Sounds like we have the same policy when it comes to idiocy. lol
Budgies are a totally different ball game, not only do they have a particularly lackluster sense of smell, but they don't produce odor themselves. Under good conditions, what budgies smell like is nothing, what they rub their heads on, or what they eat.
That is what google said when I did a quick search. :D They are kinda right.. less smelly than my hamsters were and not to mention a litter box. :P

I'd disagree on that - whoever wrote that had clearly never smelt a damp budgie after a shower :P :P But yeah I'd say they're definitely not as whiffy as a hamster ;)

Haha... can't be worse than a wet dog? Or? :P Have to say I can't remember the wet budgie smell, even tho I would sometimes give them a bath. :)

I don't think even Sparky could outdo the smell of wet dog :P I don't remember Sid having much of a damp aroma, so maybe it was down to Sparky being an English budgie, so he was larger and had a lot more feathers than a 'regular' budgie ;)

it's been so bad. One of the worst cold's I've ever had I think, I've finally started feeling more human around 2am this morning (friday) I've been sleeping most of the day. it's just been terrible. I can't wait till I'm recovered.
We got the ac repaired which has been great!
How are you?
It is good to hear you are starting to feel better and that the AC was fixed. I can imagine what kinda temperatures you guys are having now. o-o Mum and I went for shopping and lunch today. Didn't really end up buying much, but was nice.
Our budgies was not that large. Not sure what kind of budgie they were, all I know is that we got them from a family friend that bred them. ;)

at least you're feeling more like you again squishes And that's great on getting the AC done! :D
I've got a busy (well, not busy as such, but noisy) week next week - the council are resurfacing our road on Wednesday then the neighbour is having the window company return Thurs & Fri to finish redoing their windows (which is a lot of hammering, sawing and drilling from what they did earlier this week).... think I'm going to need to get my noise cancelling headphones charged up ready!
I would guess they were American budgies (also just called 'pet budgies' - the English ones are sometimes called exhibition budgies) - that's the kind we'd had up until Sparky.... up to that point we'd never even seen an English budgie for sale :P The American ones are a lot more lively though ;) Sparky was a bit too laid back for us I think :P

It sounds likely that ours were American budgies then. :) They really are sweet little birds, and I love the many colours they come in. :D

and the American ones kind of behave like you'd expect budgies to do - Mum kept saying Sparky was lazy :P I really love the pied budgies that kind of look like they've got odd coloured splotches ;)

The pied budgies looks really sweet. :D Ours were standard blue or green ones. ;)

I think we had a rainbow budgie at one point (although I can't find any photos of it), as I called it Bertie after Bertie Basset.... the budgie was 'all sorts' of colours :P I would definitely pick a pied one, but Mum thinks they look too strange
