The last few days have been me and my fiance spending time with his family and setting things up in our apartment. Our apartment is looking better now!
I'm really excited I made delicious pancakes this morning! I've made pancakes before, but they always came out too salty and chalky. It was because of using baking soda instead of baking powder. I also switched from whole wheat flour to unbleached all-purpose flour, which made the pancakes fluffier.
- Congratulations on getting your dream job!!! :D I'm sorry about the incorrect pronoun usage. Do you think it would be okay to correct them?
- Oh, hi there. :P
- Your new profile is adorable! c:
CWs seem to have an addictive affect on people. I almost slipped into getting way too into them, but I was able to stop myself. I only get things I can use over and over again (like all the CWs I have on my current HA are things I use often), though I might make exceptions depending on my financial situation. Reading your profile, I'm impressed you get so much sp over the last 2 months. I've seen people talk about getting lots of sp, but I can never seem to do the same, unless I sell expensive things.
- I've wanted to learn Japanese for a few years, but I haven't gotten to it. How are you learning it?
- My fiance found a fidget spinner at his old job, and I get distracted by it. He gets annoyed at the noise it makes when it spins for too long. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to do.
- That's a good goal to have! I really should have some sort of exercise routine. I had one but I lost it a few months ago. I've been meaning to go swimming in the mornings...
What kind of food are you trying to eat?
congrats on getting an apartment c: that sounds really nice
if you're prone to giving up, i'd suggest starting small, with simple habits like taking the stairs (if you're capable) instead of elevators etc. get used to that, and start incorporating more little healthy habits into your life. also if you're trying to lose weight, food is very important too.
a lot of veggies and whatever gives me protein, mostly.
- I have a fear of elevators, so I always use stairs unless it's impossible to. My main problem is anxiety got the best of me and I didn't want to go outside alone. And, when I was living with my parents, I had a tiny room. But, now I do have space and the pool in the morning is empty. I really don't have an excuse to not do anything.
I need to eat more vegetables. I can't stand plain lettuce though. I'm learning how to cook vegan, because I think that'll be the best way to learn how to make vegetables in a variety of ways. Recently, I tried nutritional yeast and I actually like it better than cheese (though, I still like cheesy pizzas). Oh, and I need to go back to smoothies in the morning... they were so good.
Do you have any recipes or suggestions?

Messily. xD Textbook(s?), hoarding resources like a misled dragon, listening to/picking up on things in songs, trying to read twitter posts (pft) etc. etc.. Just trying to use the language as much as possible really (I usually count & write days/dates in Japanese, for example). I was never very good at organising myself like this, so I'm still looking for the best way to do things. "orz ~ I've been starting & falling off for years though. As I said, getting through the first part is hard;;;
;;
I'm barely off the ground, ha-ha;; I know hiragana/most of the katakana, and I'm trying to learn various kanji as I come across them in words lists and so (I know that I should do those from the bottom up, but I feel that if I'm learning 'sleep' or 'come' as a word I might as well learn to write it properly for the get-go, or at the very least familiarise myself with it). I'm just trying to get in phrases/words & basic grammar first, so that I can start using the language in everyday life as soon as possible;;; If I can get a hold of Genki (been told to put in on my birthday wishlist! ; ; ), I'll probably be following that, too. I've got one textbook series (Japanese From Zero), and beyond that I'm just hoarding resources from literally everywhere - language tumblrs, various websites, apps, you name it. Anything good (whether lessons or worksheets) I try to print out & keep in my folder - even if I don't really understand what it means yet. It's always useful to have lots of resources at hand, especially since different wording might help the information click.
How far along are you?
As for the guitar, I really want to learn to write music, but I think that to understand it I need to learn to use it aka play it first. v: Music has always been really difficult for me, because I'm such a visual & tactile (is that the word?) person, sound has always just sort of been ~ over there ~, if that makes sense at all. I struggle to truly grasp it. Remembering melodies is also not something I'm made for. However, I've spent so much of my life trying to convince myself that music isn't for me (apparently my branch of the family are musically inept) - but there's this pull that I just can't ignore or get rid of, and trying to do so makes me emotionally unstable, almost like I'm starving myself. Maybe that's corny, ha-ha;; But I've decided that I'm going to learn, come hell or high waters - I've just got to figure out how to best do things my way. (insert determined emoji here)
Do you play anything? ~
- Yeah, immersing yourself with the language and using it are really good ways to learn it. I'm not sure how I would use Japanese if I were to learn it... Writing days and times is a good idea. Starting is definitely the hardest part. ;3;
I can either be really organized or disorganized. I think with learning stuff, I'm disorganized. I just seem to learn better when I don't have to be concerned about organization. The organization comes later when I've learned whatever it is I'm learning.
Well, I just woke up fairly recently, and I already have a headache lmao. On the plus side, last night I was feeling productive enough to get a CW overlay part done (that I literally won't be submitting for forever because I'm saving my money currently for something else, so it can just rot on my computer in my CW folder with the rest of the CWs-I-have-finished-but-haven't-submitted pile lmao), and got part of the item art done too.
I also worked more on my picture I mentioned earlier that I'm drawing for my friend! Gosh okay, trees take fricking forever to draw. And I'm going to have to draw a lot of grass for this scenery too which isn't that fun either haha... oh boy.
And it looks like GT Live is gonna be on in an hour so whoo hoo! I hope it doesn't get cancelled, really looking forwards to Scary Games Friday! TGISGF! ❤️❤️

Honestly, MatPat is the primary / sole reason I even watch YouTube frequently; I follow other channels, but I mostly care about MatPat (and Steph) and his three main channels. I mean heck, MatPat's the reason I watched The Runner since he hosted it, and holy heck yeah it was a blast! They had all these clues and riddles and whatnot you had to decode using things like the Beaufort cipher or hexadecimal or binary or hidden messages in spectrograms and file data. It was a lot of fun, and they were handing out money to like, ten randomly selected participants who got the answer correctly each day, too. (I actually ended up winning twice! Heck yeah. It was super, super fun and I hope they come back with a Runner Season 2 or something.)
Yeah, I have a friend who has ADHD-PI who's been telling me how helpful fidget spinners have personally been for him, and another one of my really close friends who thinks it'd be helpful for my own anxiety attacks, so I'm really keen on trying one out and seeing if it helps! I'm also thinking about getting some kinetic sand for stimming purposes; I think I would like it a lot because I absolutely adore the texture and feel of sand in general (and love beaches because of it), so. I'm glad to hear fidget cubes help with your own anxiety! Do you use anything else to help?
Really? I'm surprised more people don't hop on board with his servant outfit given it's got a FANTASTIC color scheme going on. Like I adore his two-toned shirt, and his other shirt that's layered underneath it a lot? It's literally so pretty aesthetic-wise in my opinion. But maybe that outfit's kind of hot since he's literally wearing two shirts a jacket and a glove haha.
Oh man though I think it'd be fun to cosplay him; I also really, really like his neck chain. It honestly super fits him too, given his original design in SDR2 has a chain (with a skull) hanging off his pants/waist. If I cosplayed him I'd totally get some long nails for my left hand and paint them red, eeheehee!

Glad to hear exercising is being beneficial to you! Honestly, I admire the dedication it takes to keep up a routine like that! I think I'm in the same boat as , where it's harder to find the resolve / motivation to necessarily keep up a consistent routine like that. But keeping yourself healthy definitely contributes to feeling better, so it makes me happy to see someone like you!
(If you don't mind me saying so, I honestly think examples like you are encouraging and inspiring! I also read over your tips to , too; exercising is frustrating to me though because I actually have exercise-induced asthma, and I have NO IDEA where my inhaler actually went, so I try not to overwork myself. I like to dance to music though a lot, and my room is actually located upstairs, so I have to travel up and down it several times a day, so there's that.)

Oh wow, it's nice to hear you've been working on getting your apartment set up. That definitely sounds like you've been productive and busy lately with all of that! Have you had to move around furniture or anything more intensive like that?
Man I have no culinary skills at all, so it's actually fascinating to me to hear about the different methods you're using in your pancakes to make them even better. It sounds like you've found some nice tips for your recipes that have really improved them! Did you just learn this by experimenting, or did you read it or hear it somewhere? Either way, glad to hear they're turning out better for you. Sounds yummy and delicious!
[box=#444342]
- I used a recipe as a base, since you need precise measurements with baking. Learning how different ingredients affect the pancakes are from experimentation.
It's how I cook... I find a recipe. I follow the recipe at first and then I learn what I like and dislike. I tweak it and try again. Then, I experiment and deviate from the recipe. Once I know how to make something well, I make my own recipes, though I never record precise measurements unless it's important.
EDIT: Oops, I missed a question. We moved furniture on the first day, so we're pretty much set with that. We still need to add a few things, like shelves and a bookcase. I'm hoping we have everything by the end of the summer.
Oooh, you draw? :o
REPLY
Ahhh, thanks so much for posting! I really appreciate it. ❤️❤️
Yeah, that makes sense about measurements! For that reason, do you think cooking/baking is more like a science, or an art? Or a bit of both? Because I've heard people have this debate before when it comes to this subject, so I'm curious about your personal take on it! It seems like you utilize both, since you experiment too, which sounds pretty fun and delightful!
That's actually cool that you trial and error like that. It helps you make the best food you can, when you figure out what does and doesn't work. Honestly, cooking is something that sounds really fun but, I'm just so hilariously inadequate at it that it's better I don't try when my passion lies elsewhere. So that's one reason I think it's really neat to hear about your own process. I can appreciate it vicariously, you know? ❤️❤️
[edit]
Oh wow, moving furniture is some serious business, so I'm glad you already got the bulk of that done, aha. I hope you get everything settled 100% soon - it sounds like it's a good experience, but at the same time it'd be nice to have it done, yeah? C:
Oh ja I draw haha, but I am HILARIOUSLY LIKE THE SLOWEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. If you want, you can check out my art tumblr here. Maybe I'll post a WIP of the picture I'm currently working on later though, heehee!

Oh dang, it's so cool to meet someone else trying to study Japanese. A few of my friends are as well, but they're so far ahead of me that I have a harder time relating to them, so it's kind of comforting seeing someone else who's closer to my level honestly? Maybe that's just me, but I feel really self-conscious of how slow I am, and how frequently I lack motivation to actually actively try, ah.
I know most of the hiragana/katakana as well (currently memorizing the youon, but that's pretty easy given that they're... kind of obvious what they are when you know the root katakana/hiragana). Just out of curiosity, which one do you prefer the aesthetic of more (just the appearance, not the functionality) - katakana or hiragana? I like the way katakana looks myself; hiragana is so squishy looking in comparison to katakana's more hardness / solidarity.
I think we have the same method for learning, gathering resources and trying to familiarize Japanese and make it more a daily part of our lives. Like, I follow a lot of Tumblrs that just post random stuff in Japanese like street signs and food packages and stuff, and I make attempts at translating them and understanding the syntax / context. Dang. I wish we could actually discuss Japanese without that English rule because it kind of limits what we can and can't say about it, eh?
I don't print out things myself but I bookmark resources personally! Although I do have some books on it, despite preferring online resources. I think I'll check out that Japanese From Zero series though, that sounds like it'll be useful. Like honestly any resources are useful, y'know?
Oooh, I think that would be really hecka rad if you ended up writing music too! That makes sense you want to have a groundwork sense of the notes first though. I think with enough determination you can totally do it though - especially if you have such an inner drive that keeps pulling you back towards it like that. It's like any skill; it's not something that comes overnight. You're an artist too, ja? It's like how you improve artwork by studying anatomy, lighting, poses, composition, etc.
It's like that saying, "Good artists are only the bad artists that never gave up." I think what's most important in learning a craft is to just keep practicing, learning to recognize notes and tempos and whatnot even if it doesn't come naturally to you. I'm glad to see you have such resolve to do it though! I think that's the best attitude to have when trying to learn - you just have to try. And sometimes that's really daunting but, in the end you either choose to do so, or don't, you know?
Have you tried studying songs you like by the way, to learn what kinds of tunes go well with each other so that you can one day write your own? I actually write music myself (mostly the lyrics / tune rather than instrumental, but I'd like to get into the instrumental aspect of it too). I've personally found that like, making mental notes of what sounds good and trying to understand why can help in utilizing those tricks in your own song/music-writing.
To answer your question, I used to take lessons in piano, but I quit because my teacher wasn't a very nice individual, and he was stressing me out and being condescending for no reason. I'd really like to learn to play the violin, as it's my favorite instrument, but when I'm in the middle of trying to learn other things there's just not enough time to do everything I want to do, aha.

that seems to be a pretty common fear, so you're not alone. i get the anxiety! the first step always seems huge. maybe, if you're really looking to get started, you could start out doing some at home youtube videos? even just yoga / stretching ones? or you could do a 5 minute cardio warmup and a cooldown after.
that's very impressive. do you have any favourite veggie dishes so far?
uhh HHh not really haha i just stir fry pretty much everything and add a small amount of oyster sauce for flavor (optional) + hot sauce
reply
yoooo ive got genki and it's rly nice
i've only done a few pages (motivation where are you) but so far it seems like a good book, would definitely recommend

thanks !! don't get me wrong i've only just started again, it just seems to be going well so far, fortunately. finding the motivation is hard! i get mine from tips on youtube. pick up limes is a nice new channel, if you were interested. she does cooking and minimalism too.
also please be careful with your body ;o; my friend has asthma too and she does pilates sometimes. it's based more on building muscle rather than doing mindless cardio, from what i understand.
(i'm not an expert on either working out or asthma tho pls listen to your body and maybe ask your doc what exercises would be safe for you?)
REPLY
Jaja, I think the spoilers are helpful to organization shenanigans when replying to more than one person, heehee! Ah, Pick Up Limes is a cute name for a channel haha. ❤️ I just clicked on one of the recipe videos and it seems pretty delightful (and is also making me hungry honestly, aha)! Like I mentioned in my reply to though, I have a rather lack of culinary skills, so I think following this recipe would be a bit out of my league, but it's still fascinating to watch this person put this together. (Also - they literally just added mushrooms into this recipe and holy crap I adore mushrooms like so much. Aha... really hungry now.) Thank you for sharing this channel with me!
Yeah, I can't really do anything extensive exercise-wise without absolutely getting out of breath really fast. (Which makes me feel a bit awkward to talk about since a lot of people who haven't heard of exercise-induced asthma immediately jump to the conclusion I'm just being lazy and don't exercise enough.) I do try to get in exercise, but I try not to overdo it. I honestly wish I could work out more and get more in shape though; it's something that's always held me back from achieving certain things I wanted out of life.
Hmm, going on what you said about how your friend exercises, maybe I could focus more on things that require less overall movement of my body and therefore be less taxing on breathing. You know, I never thought of that before aha, about muscle-building versus cardio. I'm so used to the routines most people recommend that it didn't really occur to me. Thanks for the tip! That actually is super encouraging to me; I might start trying some ideas out this weekend. Thanks so much! ❤️❤️

I definitely get that with everyone else being so far ahead making you feel self-conscious; I'm the same way. Looking at study blogs & stuff makes me motivated, but it also makes me feel so slow. It's definitely nice to meet someone who is at a more relatable level. :3
I like how hiragana & katakana both have their own distinct style & individuality, if that makes sense? I also like how, when used in the same sentence, they sort of divide things up and make the sentence easier to understand/take apart. I'm more used to [writing in] hiragana, so it appeals to me. Katakana looks neat in its context though. ~
It's nice to know we have a similar way of learning! Just getting general exposure to the language helps. I follow some of those aesthetic blogs too, as well as creep on the occasional jRocker's twitter & read the kana posts. My iPod is also set to Japanese, which gives me some more katakana (not to mention that I listen to 95% jRock, so that's titles/lyrics, different ways of pronunciation, etc.). The more the better, really. ~ It'd probably have been easier if we could say things directly rather than describe them, but I don't think we're doing too bad, ha-ha~
Text on a screen feels a bit too abstract to me, which makes the information more difficult to process, so I definitely prefer to have stuff on paper. It's still the same information though. ~ Japanese From Zero is nice - it's a text book/work book series (three books in total, I think, which cover hiragana/basic grammar, katakana/extensive grammar, and kanji/extensive grammar respectively) with culture notes, various activities, word lists etc. which slowly replaces romaji with the kana you learn. I took a few pictures, here: x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x . I think it's been described as a bit 'less professional' than Genki (I'd definitely like to compare the two!), but it's cute; I like it. ^^ And I agree - the more resources, the better!
It'd be a dream. I have so many project/ideas I want to breathe life into - I just need the skill/understanding to do so. In a way, music/sound & art/visuals are basically the same thing to me, it's just my grasp on them that's different. Because of this I feel that I can use the two in relation to one another (to empower each other, even), which also means that, as you said, I can use my experience with drawing to get a better handle on music.
I like that - Good artists are only the bad artists that never gave up. It's comforting somehow. Drive is definitely important. I think what I struggle with is the push versus the pull. I feel a desperate pull, but I lack the energy - the fire, if you will - to push. I'm trying, of course, but I burn out so easily. It's a bother that makes progress slow... but all progress is progress, right? The worst thing you can do is to give up.
I'm definitely trying to learn about the songs I like/why I like them. Though I don't really have a good enough musical understanding to pinpoint things exactly yet, it's one of those things I expect will come as I learn more about the songs I want to play + music in general. It's hard to find tabs of songs/bands I like though. I'm hoping to get a hold of a couple of band score books soon, and then to use sites like Songsterr to help with the tempo.
It's cool that you write music! Any particular kind?
I write lyrics, but without a tune they're basically just poems, ha-ha;; I would've loved a basic programme where you could create melodies with different instruments/layers. I've tried looking into it, but all I've been able to find is abstract information and 'to make music you need this ridiculously expensive setup on a powerful computer & software the price of photoshop' like |: For drawing you can download GIMP or Paint.NET or FireAlpaca. For music it feels like you can't create until you're already a pro;;;; "orz
I'm sorry about your piano teacher. /: Piano/keyboard is another thing I've wanted to learn (a bit more casually than guitar), but you know, one thing at a time. It'd be really nice if you had the chance to learn the violin though. I definitely get not having enough time/having so much to do, but it's a beautiful instrument, and creative expression is always a good thing. This made me think, have you heard the soundtracks for the anime Your Lie in April? I don't watch anime personally, but I came across them recently, and the piano/violin combination is very beautiful. Maybe it'd be of interest, I don't know. xD

For some reason, I didn't see your ping here. I either deleted it on accident or it didn't reach me.
I don't think too hard as to what cooking is. But, if you were to go into the science vs. art argument, I say it's a bit of both and it completely depends on the individual. For me, the science part kicks in when I need to know how certain foods interact with each other (like which spices work well together) and how to keep the ingredients balanced (especially important with baking).
The art part comes when when I'm experimenting, like when I add a new ingredient to something. I also don't do precise measurements for anything, so technically, my dishes come out slightly different every time. I don't care to make my dishes look pretty though... I rather focus on the food tasting good.
I can understand living vicariously. I can't draw well at all, but I love seeing others' artwork. I saw your Tumblr, and I like your art. ^^ I do need to avoid the Danganrompa spoilers since I only played the first one. Though, I have no idea when I'll play the second one.

Youtube videos are a good idea! I should definitely try that. I'm not sure about yoga though... I'm the most not flexible person ever.
My favorite thing so far is homemade tomato sauce. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. I also had cucumbers and radishes in vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, and that was delicious. Oh, and mashed sweet potatoes are great.
I should try stir frying some vegetables. I have tamari sauce, so I can use that with the vegetables.

It's definitely about starting with the small things & working yourself up. If you keep a personal diary/journal for example you can get in time, dates, greetings, and names, just to start. ~
I can definitely see your learning method. I'm pretty organised myself, but if I have too many options & no red string to show me where to go I get easily overwhelmed, and I sort of just collapse in on myself in a huff. At the same time I need to do things my own way - strict rules just make me rebel. :'D

Yooo thanks for the input! The more it's mentioned, the more I want it ; ;
SORRY MY REPLIES ARE LATE. I was on a bus for 8 hours on Friday, because I decided to go visit my best friend who lives some distance away. I'm gonna be on a bus back in a couple hours actually, so yeah, I haven't been able to keep up here unfortunately.
It's been a fun day and a half with him though! We went to the Nintendo E3 experience in NYC and demo'd Pokken Tournament together, and my friend demo'd the Mario game that's coming out in November and I watched him. It looks super fun. I don't have a Nintendo Switch but he does and I think I'll definitely have to find a way to play it with him when it comes out.
And today we watched Moana together online, and I've never seen it before, but I thought it was a really heartwarming movie. We have a lot of plushie sea creatures and we gathered them so they could watch with us :3
The only bad thing is that, well, we were outside a lot and it was sunny, and I have a weird sunlight allergy thing, so I'm covered in rashes. This is just my life every summer though so oh well...
Anyway, a few belated replies :D
Ooh, guitar and Japanese - two things I also tried to learn and have made zero progress with ;-; But I think with musical things like guitar, it can be fun to just play what you know over and over. As for Japanese, honestly, learning ANY second language is hard, and Japanese is sooo complex... I am fluent in both Mandarin and English, so you'd think I'd have an advantage, but NOPE. Oh well, maybe if we both keep it up, we'll get somewhere :)
Oh man... I'm really out-of-the-loop when it comes to anime and games and such, unfortunately. But that cosplay sounds really nice. I've actually wanted to cosplay myself sometime... I never have, and I also just don't have many characters I could cosplay, but I was thinking I'd love to try cosplaying Lain from SEL if you are familiar c:
cheers cycling is... well, I find it not fun myself but I'm glad you felt good! How are you doing today? also I admire you for trying to eat healthy... I need to do that myself but I struggle a lot tbh, I have always had some problems with eating. Right now I'm managing one meal a day which is honestly terrific and better than I've ever done in my life, i used to skip meals a lot and replace meals with coffee/caffeine (which is an appetite suppressant...) and I think better physical health definitely helps with mental health too.

I totally get ya, I don't really watch much recent anime and tend to be drawn to ones that are a few years+ old (Dragon Maid is an outlier though I needed to see cute gay dragons) and the video games I love are pretty old and almost dead (METROID 4 THOUGH WOOT WOOT!!).
Serial Experiments Lain is so good, it's been a while since I watched it but I really enjoyed it, and I'd say you should totally go for cosplaying Lain! cosplay is for fun and no matter what as long as you're happy and having a good time, it's totally worth it.
That's so exciting though! Nintendo World is so much fun and it's a staple for whenever we take day trips to NYC, I'm glad you were able to experience that :D
Hope you all are having a great day and a fantastic weekend overall. Sorry I don't post as much here.
My weekend has been alright, I finally kicked myself into writing again. I mostly do blurbs but those little snippets totally help me wriggle out from under the cruel writer's block that loves to crash down upon me from time to time... or for months on end.
I hope it can leave me alone so I can get some more work done. Not getting my hopes up though. Anyway enough of me talking... continue to have a great day everyone!
(Please forgive me for any weird spelling mistakes or wording things wrong, my tablet loves correcting me...)
Oh that sounds lovely, hope you had a fun visit! Safe trip home!
Sorry about my absence everybody, and sorry my replies aren't direct. My mental health has been extremely poor lately, even for me, who usually sits pretty low. I broke down today and I'm just generally not ok. In that area of not knowing if I want to talk about it or not, but regardless of that; I hope everyone here is well, or at least on the mend. My day was good!
My name is Sage! My pronouns are they/them/themself!
good parts of day: caught a Lapras, had frozen strawberry lemonade pie (which turned out to be a foodstuff which is delicious), hung out with my sister, decided on an autumnal HA i like bad parts of day: panic attacks are not fun, 0/10 do not recommend current status: sleepy
relatable breakdowns are hard to recover from at least for me
you seem like a type of bug that isn't liable to crawl all over or bite/sting me, or fly at my face suddenly thus, you are probably a good type of bug
cycled to the lake with some buddies yesterday, was great. might have mild heatstroke so taking it slow today. also i might stop replying here bc forums are intimidating but i have an easier time talking on discord so hmu if you want to

trying things out is how you learn, right? :> there's no need to start with difficult things, if you really want to learn how to cook, start out with staple recipes and switch those up every now and then. you'll get there! this is coming from someone who stir fries everything btw cx
good luck on your journey! getting healthier is so rewarding. also don't feel bad if you mess up, everyone does. just go at your own pace. i'm sure you'll do an awesome job!

no need to do any exercise you don't like! i would recommend trying out lots to find out if you do actually like something (without expecting it), but sticking to something you don't enjoy is no fun.

have fun cooking! ❤️
