I wish I could love weather like that. It's my partner's favourite. Objectively, storms are useful, & a lot of them are fascinating. & of course, the gentle kind of rain can be really pretty. But all of it just makes everything ache & burn so it's hard to love it, lol.
Very glad you were able to get transport for all of that!
Caterpillars are great little buggers. When they don't want to eat my pretty plants.
We managed to deter slugs & snails & other pests, but not these guys. Our entire tomato garden last year got chomped to smithereens & they're back again this year to eat my sunflowers it seems. Picking them off one by one & transferring them elsewhere didn't work last year, either. They just brought friends! We don't want to use pesticides, either, because we have so many bees & other pollinators around that are beneficial (especially to the locals that produce food around here) & I'd feel bad killing them, it's not their fault.
Every natural deterrent we've tried hasn't worked at all. So I'm just sort of boggled on what to do. Talking to them isn't the most far-fetched idea I've heard, TBH. If you can talk to plants & get them to grow bigger & healthier, I don't see why asking bugs to keep off your lawnsunflowers can't work.
Thanks. <3

I was in the path of a partial eclipse. It was an awesome experience... the sun dimmed and it got cool outside for a while. I did see the total eclipse from NASA's live stream though.
@ Sunflower - I hope your pain lightens up and that you can save the sunflowers. D:
As I told , it's been so soggy with this hurricane weather that even the caterpillars are hiding, LOL
Good news for my sunflowers at least. c:
We think we have a different breed than we intended on but they still turning out really cute!
what we wanted vs what we got

That's an old pic of what's out on our porch; we have 4 stalks & easily 6-10 heads per I think--though not all are opened/blooming just yet!
Sunflowers aside, I've accomplished quite a few things on Subeta this month which is nice, & it's been a welcome distraction from the usual health junk:
latest subeta goals done

- Are you alright? You said "hurricane weather", and I'm concerned.
The sunflower you got is really pretty! Also, yay for accomplishing Subeta goals! I've been lagging so behind on mine. :x
Oh yes, I'm fine. The big weather is in Texas ATM, I believe. We're getting the cast-offs. Plus, this is not even Official hurricane weather for us; I woulda said something if we were being made to evacuate. C: There's some flood warnings & the usual thunderstorms in southern Florida, but that's typical of this time of year anyway.
florida is weird
TBH, Florida is really lackadaisical about weather right up until it ain't no more. I've lived here over 12 years now & I'm STILL not used to it, LOL. I come from Indiana where even the slightest smudge of weird green-grey in the sky means SIRENS & to go bunker down in a basement or your bathroom (with no windows, HECK it still makes me nervous that so many bathrooms have windows here...).
In Florida, unless it's going to be HEUG people carry on carrying on here, & even then sometimes they stubbornly refuse to evacuate. Bottled water & other supplies like flashlights & the like go out of stock quick, of course, but most people already have stock on hand who have lived here long enough. & all the buildings have to be up to code to withstand the majority of the storms & the like (especially the waterfront ones) but obviously within reason because you can't build for everything. Florida is literally like a giant sandbar so that makes building on it interesting, on top of things. You can't have basements. They flood. Constantly. They also eventually get pushed up & out of the ground by shifting ground around them. Stuff like that.
But no, mostly I reference the weather right now because for me, it's that the side effects of all this pressure & rain from Harvey is killing me softly murder on my joints & my head so I'm even more sluggish than my usual, & it's meaning I stay inside more where I can at least PRETEND I can control the ambient temperatures so I haven't been checking personally on my sunflowers or going out on trips in the car as much.
I'll definitely make sure to give a heads up if I need to evacuate but I doubt it'll come to that. Definitely concerned for all the folks in Texas, though. :C thinking my best good thoughts for all those stuck there in the Harvey's direct path.
As far as around here, evacuations in my experience, particularly the serious-stress ones, give plenty of time for the locals to take care of things & let their families know & to stock up on supplies (& also we have a tiny tiny data plan/wi-fi in the truck so I can always borrow my roommate's phone to get online).
Thank you so much for your concern! It's really sweet & made me feel cared for. C:
I actually have updates on the sunflowers!! Weirdly enough, the tiny shortest dwarf one on the end IS doing what it's supposed to! It finally popped open one of its buds & surprise surprise it's a fluffy teddy bloom instead of like the 3 other stalks. We think seeds got mixed up in the mail, but at least this 1 stalk is as fluffy as advertised. It's really hilarious because it's so much shorter & softer & fluffier than it's siblings. To this point, we were figuring that the heat & weather had stunted it compared to the others--but nope!
I'll try to get updated pictures when the weather's nicer. C:
(Thanks, RE: Subeta goals. I'm sure you'll catch up when you're able!)

- Oh wait... now I remember you said you were in Florida before.
As a lifelong Floridian, I can say you're completely correct about Florida being weird. XD The funny thing is the random rain makes total sense for this time of year. I didn't even realize it was from Harvey. Also, have you ever heard of a hurricane party?
Yeah, tropical storms and weak hurricanes are not taken seriously at all. (I see them as lol, more rain.) Last year, there was Hurricane Matthew (which honestly made me laugh because Matthew was the name of an ex-boyfriend), and that one was taken seriously. I'm inland, so shelters were opened here for people on the east coast. We stocked up on basic supplies, had big bottles of fresh water, and had a week's worth of non-perishable food. We were ready for the worst since we were expecting a direct hit from Matthew's eye. But, we got super lucky that Matthew weakened and moved away.
There was also 2004, in which 4 hurricanes hit Florida. That was (not) fun...
I hope that your joints and head start to feel better soon. :c
Ahahah YEAH PARTIES I remember those. I never went to 1 but I heard about them all the time. People treat the weather here so casually & it's so bewildering for me even as it's funny! I'm just a big weenie I guess since, like I said, I was raised that weather is super spooky & you gotta take cover immediately at the first sign of trouble & I have the problem of so many anxiety in the first place of worrying about everything anyway so being relaxed is a bit foreign. I'll never be a true Floridian I guess. Hoosier 5ever, bleh.
I definitely remember the Matthew scare, & stocking up to hide out, but 2004 was about when I was still living back in my hometown so too far back for me.
I think where we live don't technically count as inland, but we aren't really on the coast, either. We're in a weird spot that's neither there nor here. It doesn't take long to GET to a coastline, though. & I know our property also straddles a flood zone at 1 corner, so that's awkward, too.
Thank you, RE: health wishes!
Now that I know you are also in Florida, I hope that things continue to just be steady normal Florida-like weather for you, too. C:

- Being a true Floridian isn't that great. XP I've never been to a hurricane party either (I don't like parties), but yeah, it's pretty much something everyone jokes about when there's a hurricane approaching.
For one of the 2004 hurricanes, I was in the eye of the storm. I actually went outside while in the eye, and it was so creepy but awesome.
That's awkward placement of your property and a flood zone. I've never lived in a flood zone, but a lot of roads here are easily flooded.
Thank you. XD
why are people such piece of shit and grade A for assholes ???
I woke up waaay too early for my class today to deal with any bullshit coming from my neighbours (wink wonk to @ skylar ;)). As a revenge from last week where my father (not living with us) took their cigarette stubs from where they throw them on my mother's car and on the pavement and decided to put them on their balcony. This morning, my mom took me to school and the car was making a weird noise. I came back home and my mom told me that they've put a potato in her muffler ??? A POTATO IN THE ENGINE ??? THAT'S ??? DANGEROUS ??? What the flying heck. I'm so damn mad what even are they. Some damn idiotic potheads. God I hate them.
(end of cursing) Also, I went to my college store to get my last 2 books that weren't in stock yet again. Guess what? Today, there is still one missing q___q /flips table
I'm so angry haha.
On the positive side of things, my mom was able to secure a spot to get the machine for my blood pressure in a few weeks. Yay for arm stangulation. /checks paper ... Which is next week and I have yoga as well.
[edit]
MY BOOK SPINE JUST CAME UNDONE A BIT
IT'S A NEW BOOK
WTH
/throws it outta the window
haaAAaaaa
Good. Went to a new store, bought an Italian good-luck charm, which is frankly rather odd, as the shop's owners are Hmong and the place is a flower shop. : I don't think I've had an admin buy from me in several months, although I can't be sure. Thanks.
Lol, why do you mention that? Is there an achievement for it or something?
I'm not as "admin-y" as the other admins possibly, in that some of them just do admin stuff, but I still play the game somewhat intensely hahaha. Like I've been fairly good about doing at least most of my quests, play games and work on achievements, etc... and I change my HA like every other day cuz I'm a wardrobe addict :P

How flattering. I feel pretty ordinary xD

- I have been summoned from the depths of the internet. :o
Those neighbors sound like a nightmare. The potato in the muffler is dangerous and I hope they don't continue to escalate their "revenge" or whatever they're calling it.
College textbooks are the worst. And wow, a new book falling apart like that. What is that even???
Yay for arm strangulation? XD
- What was the charm if you don't mind sharing? That does sounds like an odd shop though.
Sometimes, buys things from my shop, but I haven't thought anything about it. It's just yay, more sp for me. XD
- Hi fellow wardrobe addict. :P I think you actively play the site more than I do... I'm usually horrible with quests and I've been neglecting nearly everything (even before school started). O.o
: A corno, a horn-shaped pendant. And I always take note of customers who aren't 'regular' users.
5 hours of sleep, woo. I hope I can at least take a nap at some point today. @-@
- I've never heard of those before or seen one (as far as I know).
n__n Checking every single morning to check if they've put another potato in the muffler. ffs. I was able to fix my $53 book with ultra glue gel. At least it's not going to fall apart anymore haha. I'm kinda bummed to miss a class because of the device next week (even tho yoga is shit). Hopefully there won't be anything planned that is important. Otherwise, I may cry ??
& Yaay. I barely slept as well but I can't nap. I wish I could.
sticking my head in here long enough to belatedly yell ab POTATOES IN MUFFLERS
EXCUSE
I DO NOT BELONG IN MUFFLERS

updates on sunflowers:
the flowers on the first 3 stalks took a heavy walloping from the storms & were at the end of their lifespan anyway we think; the good side of this is the stalks are healthy, theres plenty blooms lower down gonna flower soon, so we aint worried much
meanwhile the late bloomer (HAH literally) is a CHAMPION & is doing Just Fine (& u can see what i meant by how fluffy the teddies are supposed to look)
SPOILER (click to toggle)
