When I was little I remember spending Christmas with my grandparents. They were German. I called them Oma and Opa. They used to buy ornaments from Germany and hide them among the regular ornaments and all my family had one shot to pick the special ornaments out. These special ornaments were made from german chocolate and were amazing. The person that picked out the special ornament, got to eat the chocolate. One of my many memories of my Oma and Opa. They are gone now and I miss them dearly.
Thank you for holding this contest!

When I was growing up, my Gommy (she was my Pop-Pop's second wife) would have me over on a Saturday in December. She would pull out a step-stool for me to stand on so I could help her pour ingredients into the big mixing bowl. After we made the dough, she would take a cloth, pour some oil on it, and rub it on a Pizzelle maker. She had a gas stove, so she would hold it over the flames to warm up the iron to make “cookie snowflakes”. I couldn't touch the iron, but I was allowed to place the pizzelles on the cookie racks as she handed them to me one by one. We would spend hours doing this, and she had to time the cooking time in the maker by singing, so we would sing Christmas songs as each “snowflake cookie” was being made. The last time we made them together was over 30 years ago. I still have the large mixing bowl and pizzelle iron, and each time I make them, I remember those Saturdays with my Gommy.

I can remember going to my Grandma's house when we was young. She would fix dinner for all of us then we would open our gifts from grandma. We would sing and eat and just enjoy family time. As we grew older we stopped going as much then grandma passed away and no one gets together now :( so happy and sad

It's a little thing but is my sister and we watched a lot of The Legend of Korra together last year around the holidays. We drank fancy hot chocolate made with real cocoa or Nutella and it was super cozy. I love it when she stays at home for extended time periods on college breaks. I'm looking forward to going to the Christmas markets in the city with her. ^^

Sorry about that. I changed it to hope she isn't already on the list lol
Nope she isn't! No need to apologize also, this was not clearly stated beforehand c:
Everything is up to date from here! Hopefully I won't need to add any more rules, I am sorry for all the words guys!

One year at Christmas my family decided to go out to a tree farm and cut down our tree and I was so excited to go with my dad and brothers. It was particularly chilly that winter and the tree far was particularly hilly and we were searching for a particular type of Noble Fir. Searching for a tree in the hilly terrain took several hours because the tree farm didn't have very many noble fir trees left. After what felt like hours we finally found and cut down the perfect tree, heading home at last. While we were away my mother baked cookies, and surprised us with freshly baked almond spritz (my favorite Christmas cookie). Afterwards we got out decorations for the tree, first putting out our nativity scene (which we've had since I was a small child. All of this was very memorable for me because my family rarely cuts down our own tree & going to the farm was such an exciting adventure.

Story/memory: Every year after around my 12th birthday, mom has warned that that Christmas would have hardly any gifts under the tree. Every Christmas that has had that warning have been the best Christmas memory. Instead of over-spending on commercial items, we make our own gifts. Mom bakes and I knit, it makes this season so much happier - and warmer.

My favorite memory was perhaps the year I got my first guitar. I was actually pretty sad that I didn't get it while doing our traditional under the tree sectional present opening, but of course, I couldn't show that. My father came in afterwards with a big box... You should've seen the smile on my face! It was a beautiful black guitar. I have since named her Musikiller. I've treated her like a baby ever since.

My favorite Christmas memory is the year my Grampaw Jack came to stay with us for a week. I remember it because the house smelled like gingerbread the whole time, and Grampaw Jack seemed like this huge giant that filled up an entire room, but was always laughing and making me and my brother laugh. I also remember that the pile of presents under the tree just seemed to grow and grow as the visit went on, and I was amazed that there were so many. I woke up in the middle of the night hearing my Grampaw snoring (from the other room, mind you), and was absolutely convinced it was Santa making noise while he was moving around putting things under the tree. My mom had to work really hard to convince me that no, it was just her dad.

My Story: At 12 or so, you expect every year to keep being as magical as the last. But I had to admit, things looked bleak as Christmas loomed nearer that year. My mom's health had never been good, but her 3rd relapse with Cancer made it painfully obvious that this year was going to be hard as is. To top it off, I was one of her 3 kids, and she was a single mom working 12 hour shifts at the hospital. She let me know early on that there may not be much under the tree that year. My mom's a fighter but the look on her face was total defeat. I resigned my feelings quickly, and put on my brave-face. After all, honestly, just having my Mother still was enough for me. Apparently, my Mother trained fighters as well. We all kept our brave-faces on, and as the Holidays neared, it seemed okay, no matter what made it under the tree.
When I woke up Christmas morning though, that child-like rush hit me. Something just felt right. I ran out to the living room, and to my surprise there was more than enough under the tree, for every single one of us. My mom explained that our family's names and the ages of each of us was given to a bank who liked to help those in need each year, and they decided to help us. I don't know who picked my gifts that year, but I know I cherished them.
As a preteen hitting some very difficult times, receiving my first set of jewelry, alongside makeup holders and new clothes, you gave me things I know my Mom wish she could have. You put smiles on our faces and you kept the Christmas spirit alive within each of us. I don't know who to tell, so I'll just pass along the story. It's important people know that the small things do matter, even if someone seems like they'll make it through just fine.
and Are all great people who could deserve some love!

This one is rather funny, a bit gross and coming back every holiday season in my family. (It became a running gag.)
We were having Christmas at my place and my boyfriend came for the first time. I warned him several time that my family being festive, loud and we are a big big family. So on this day what was supposed to be a couple family members ended up becoming 30 people in a small house. I am french-canadian and my boyfriend is American so, through the day my boyfriend learned a few French words and played mime to communicate so, after a while we retired in my room to relax and take a break. As the party reached climax my father went downstairs to get dessert and my aunt who had WAY too much to drink started opening the doors and searching for my father. We ended up joining in. So on Christmas eve last year we were 29 people clapping doors and pretty much ended up playing hide and seek in the house. (We are all adults.) Funniest Christmas ever.

So last christmas day, there wasn't any snow so we couldn't go skiing how we usually do. Instead we went to see some cousins who live a couple hours away by car. And that's the day it started snowing XD We spent 6 hours in the car instead of 3, but we had a great lunch, saw our cousins for the first time in 5 years and had a really really lovely time. We went through old family photos, and I saw the first picture I've ever seen of my grandparent's wedding!! Best christmas present ever! 6 hours in the snow was totally worth it!
Thank you luff :* I see someone beat me to entering you aha.

Funny story: My kitty came home with me for Christmas last year. Even though they only see each other a few times a year, he played with my sister's cat like they had never left each other. Well, he must have decided that he wanted to play a game of hide and seek with my sister's cat because when I went to check on him, he was nowhere to be found. We searched the entire house (even though we were all pretty sure he couldn't have left the bedroom), and couldn't find him anywhere. 2 hours later, I opened the bedroom door and there he was, sitting there staring at me like he had been there all along.

Story: A couple years ago, we had an ice storm a handful of days before Christmas. The power lines went down and there were widespread electricity blackouts that lasted for days. My whole family is stuck in the dark and cold in -20 weather. No heating or hot water. No internet. No TV. No Christmas food. The power stays out for over 3 days. So it's Christmas Eve, and the blackout is still going strong. Everyone's grumpy and over it, thinking Christmas is basically not happening. We're all huddled in blankets by the only heat in the house, the gas fireplace. By 6PM on Christmas Eve, it's black as night out, we're playing our bazillionth card game by candlelight... and, miracle of miracles, the power comes back on! Just in time for Christmas Eve dinner to be salvaged. Moral of the story: Christmas miracles do happen sometimes ;)
