y'all I can't even watch a movie without researching it to make sure it won't scare/trigger us haha. doesthedogdie is a great resource for us
Hi all. Doing pretty good. Hi fellow lurker! lol Glad you are feeling better.
I need to watch Jacob's Ladder again. I remember it being unsettling, but so long ago nothing else. Silent Hill was really good, but seriously creepy! Jeepers Creepers and The Grudge scared me. In The Ring when Samara crawls out of that TV... well, I still have nightmares. I HATED it when that poor horse was so scared that he fell overboard and was killed, too. I really hate it and get very upset when any animal is hurt or killed in any movie. Kill all the people you want, but leave the animals alone damnit.
When my son (who was a teenager at the time) and I went to see the first Saw, I nearly called Child Protective Services on these people. I should have. I don't care about the parental guidance thing. No one under a certain age should ever be allowed in a movie theater showing anything other than Disney-like films. Especially rated R horror. Accompanied by their parents or not. Babies should never be allowed under any circumstances on principle. They just ruin the experience for everyone. My emphatic opinion. Anyway, I think there were three adults, and they brought several young children, maybe 3 - 8, that had NO BUSINESS being anywhere near any kind of movie like that. Those poor kids cried and screamed and hid behind the seats while their asinine (and many other colorful metaphors that I won't go into here) parents plus the other so-called adult ignored them and watched the movie. Lucky them.
I can understand. Being an animal lover and a horror hound does not always mix well XD
First Silent Hill movie was decent second one I don't know why I continue to rewatch it. The Grudge scared me silly for days when I first watched it and I had to stop watching it during the night and only could finish it during the day. But I didn't think it was a good movie and feel embarrassed that it scared me so much.
I don't know why but I was never scared that much by The Ring. It was creepy but I was never frightened for some reason.
Parents let children to see the strangest movies. The first Matrix sequel I saw a dad bring his young son (at least 10 and at most 13).
Hey everyone! It's been a few weeks since I was last here. I managed to pass my driving theory exam. Here in the Netherlands, the exam requires quite a bit of studying. I've spent all my free times for the past two weeks practising example exams and I passed last Thursday on my first attempt. In two weeks I start my driving lessons (again), and hopefully it will go better than last time in terms of anxiety.
I think I completely missed vesnali because of this :(
Congrats on passing your driving theory exam =D
Even if you aren't able to do much in Vesnali this year, there's always next year :)
- congrats on passing your exam! is it difficult to get a drivers license over there? i sent you a couple of lflowers. 🌷
- i had no idea jacob's ladder spawned silent hill. i love the silent hill movies and game. ok, scream did have it's funny moments and it's nice to know they were intended and we're all not psycho over here but... we watched friday the 13th and he laughed through that, too. every time a co-ed would scream he'd bust out laughing. he said the screams were unrealistic. that no one screamed like that in real life. i'm wondering where he heard a real scream for comparison. x.X speaking of stephen king... have you read the bill hodges series? i just finished it. not scary, it follows typical king story guidelines. it's a prequel to the outsider. i started this one last night. it's supposed to be one of his better works. have you read it?
- waves hi! don't work too hard! 😀
Jacob's Ladder didn't spawn Silent Hill, but it was a huge inspiration for the games. Some imagery in the games are pulled from the movie.
Friday the 13th, the original one, is a good film but...yeah...wondering how he knows what a realistic scream sounds like O.O'
I haven't read it. I sadly haven't kept up that well with recent King books. I liked The Outsider series on HBO and I know the lady is very different in the adaptation.
Trying to finish up The Dresden Files (taking a break with an indie romance) and then it'll be off to finishing the Dune series.
to get your driving licence you need to pass both a theory and a practical exam. You're not allowed to do the practical exam if you didn't pass the theoretical one. Compared to the US it's very difficult to get your licence over here, which is why I've been putting it off for two decades. Also, the anxiety I have about driving isn't helping. On average, you'll need 40 hours of driving lessons before doing the exam. Because of my dyspraxia I've had 40 hours already a couple of years ago and likely need at least 40 more in order to succeed. I was trying to get my stick shift license, but I gave up on that, because with my dyspraxia I just can't manage manually changing gears and keeping an eye on traffic at the same time. I'm going for an automatic license this time, which means I won't be allowed to drive a manual car, but that's alright, since it's probably for the best that I don't drive one of those. The lessons are very expensive, so this will set me back a couple of grands. But I've concluded that it's going to be a lot easier to find a job once I have my licence, which is why I'm doing this. Right now I'm very restricted to jobs that are close to public transport, but getting a licence means I can go for any job within a reasonable driving distance.
I still haven't started the Dune series, but I really want to read them before I'll watch the series. Do you like it? I'm very slowly working my why through the wheel of time series, while reading some other random books in between.
While I have enjoyed all the Dune books thus far, there is a large division in the fandom. The original books were written by Frank Herbert and after his death his son (Brian Herbert) and another author (Kevin J. Anderson) wrote prequels as well as finished up the series.
So you have some people stating that they only consider the books by Frank Herbert both good and canon.
This also plays hell with the Wiki as everything is just...yeah...important characters don't have their own page because they're in one of the books written by Brian Herbert.
- i asked him how he knows what a real scream sounds like... his answer: you-tube. should have guessed. when he's not studying or playing games he's buried there. lol how far are you in the dresden files? i hope he writes more. :) dune is still on my list and i'll let you know when i start it. yeah, that was my case until another friend told me about the outsider. she said the show was really good and the book even better. guess i'll find out, lol except i don't know when/if i'll get to watch the show as we don't have hbo. :)
o.O wow, that's a lot more difficult than over here. are there fewer traffic accidents because of this level of restriction? how far are you through the wheel of time series? did you watch the tv show? if so, did you like it? :D
Only one more novel to go and then it's off to Arrakis (aka Dune).
The show takes around 3 episodes to really get started. It's good all the way through but it does take its time to get going. I hope you do get to watch it!
Still alive. Been very busy the last few days with work and had dinner last wednesday. Yesterday after work i went to the supermarket, vacuum the house, cleaned up and then couch potato.
Today did some washings, outside in the sun now, trew away the trash and have to work in about 1,5 hour till 9:15pm. And tomorrow i will be away all day to Volendam with friends. Sunday off and so not doing nothing.
Still missing out big time with vesnalin
congrats! When is the practical exam? I heard they are behind ages
- what platform is the show on? or wait, are you talking about the outsider? hopefully i'll be able to watch it but if it's solely on hbo then it may be a while. ah, the end of the dresden files... so good yet bittersweet. oh! did i tell you what my hubby got me for christmas? a sterling silver necklace with a BOB pendant with orange topaz eyes. it's amazing. :D - how are you likeing your new job so far? it's definitely keeping you busy. i hope you have fun with your friends when you go out. i've almost got everything i need from the vesnali shops. if i have any coin left over i'll send it your way to help fund your vesnali shopping. it may not be much, though. i've been able to scrape a little together. i really dislike this holiday since i can't grab the flowers. without the flowers the holiday is pretty useless. (sorry to those who like it.) i hope you're having a great friday! 😀
it is a lot harder. And they're pretty strict on the exams as well. For instance they're checking if you look in all the mirrors/out your side window for every action and if you don't look explicitly, that will be noted as an error. I'm not sure if traffic accidents are more rare here, but I think the roads are generally busier. When I visited the US I noticed that roads are generally much straighter and it's easier to oversee everything. Here in cities there can be narrow streets, there are bicycles everywhere and it's just more hectic.
they are behind. I scheduled the exam I did in early January. I don't know when the practical exam will be, because I'll start my lessons after the meivakantie. The driving schools also have a waiting list... I know my teacher reserves some slots at the CBR every month, so hopefully I won't have to wait too long when I'm ready to do the exam.
How are you liking your new job? Is it better than health care?
- we have narrow city streets too. :P but, yeah, we do have more than our fair share of straight roads. i think it's due to former president johnson wanting the roads to fill in for airport runways if the runways get damaged or become unavailable for what ever reason. so, we ended up with a lot of straight highways. you know, if i lived over there i never could have gotten my license. i passed the test here, no problem. but the one over there, no way. i'm too anxious, especially when taking a test. good luck! 😀
Glad you're still alive and not doing anything Sunday. Good to have a day of rest :)
I had a dinner with my aunt and uncle yesterday. Brian arranged it as they couldn't come to his actual birthday dinner. Which is a good thing as that restaurant was not good.
That's an awesome gift to get =D
i am finally getting into a routine with work and i am liking it. As i am working 40 hours a week, i am very busy with that. Once home to tired to do stuff. Not missing health care butwould love some more time off then just 1 day at a time. working 4 days, 1 day off, working 3 days 1 day off, etc. I am alone and in my 1 day off i need to do everything so not getting much rest. But my boss wants to talk to me to get to know me i will talk about that. My probation time is almost over but i am staying as they sheldued me in over my probation time. So that's a plus!
I got the vesnali stuff from this year, now busy getting stuff from prevoius years.
i thought so, heard it on the news they are behind, due covid, etc. I do hope you get your test soon.
not doing much this sunday!! Pj party!
Just got home from a post meeting with friends in Volemdam. Took picture in volendam traditional costume, i look so werid, lol! Had lunch, wrote postcards, meeting books, talked, had fun, did some sightseeing in the village and then back home. Shame the train and bus ride took almost 2 hours been away for almost 12 hours. But it was worth it. At home i orderd pizza, no mood to cook.
- it is my favorite necklace. :) how did the post-birthday dinner go with your aunt and uncle? did you go out to eat or did someone cook? - it sounds like you're adjusting really well to your new career path. you seem a lot happier than before. :D busy is always good as it can get boring when there's nothing to do. i wish i could see your sight-seeing pictures. i love seeing the various architectures around the world. 😀 as for vesnali, the flowers have been few these last couple of days. i still have 2013 and 2014 to get. i'm hoping i'll have coins left over to send to help you but right now, i just don't know. take a look at my autumn marvels gallery when you have a chance. there are a lot of things from 2015 and other years in there.they are duplicates i don't need/want. tell me what you want and i'll send it over. 😀
I'm in my pjs unless I go out =D
We went to a sushi buffet which was nice. Love me some sashimi! Raw fish and no rice =D
i love my pj's but not all day, unless i am sick. But who know maybe today i will be in them all day.
i wish you could see them. Good luck on getting all the items!
My balcony door won't open anymore, wanted to hang my washings outside in the sun... Tried verything but it just won't budge. Washing now at the front door but now sun... They are coming to repair it tuesday, i asked y parents to come and let them in as i am working.
Next saturday me and dad are taking the boys (cats) to get there picture taken at the pet store. Did it with my former cats to so then i will have them all on my wall.
