it is a Harry Potter movie but pre-harry potter. This was movie 3. It's about newt scamander and Dumbledore. Really good.
Day off today and well as i did not do anything while working had to do it all today. Clean bed, 3 wash loads, clean kitty litters, groseries, took a nap and i have a birthday tonight. Won't stay long as i am working tomorrow.
- pre-hp book 1? how far in the past does it go? are there books that go with it? i haven't heard of this but my kids aren't into hp anymore. with the exception of my youngest but he's only reading the hp books because i'm making him for school. i had the household chores today, too. except our washer is acting up and had a spin cycle seizure and almost knocked a hole in the wall. ugh, hubby's calling the repair man as it's supposed to self-balance loads and it most certainly isn't right now. x.x i hope you enjoy the birthday party and that work goes swiftly for you tomorrow. :D
The new HP movies aren't based off any books. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was published for charity while the HP books were still being released. However, the Fantastic Beasts movies and book aren't related at all.
The movies take place back when Grindlewald was making war with the wizarding world. I think the latest movie takes place in the late 1930's?
I'm glad that there is an audience for them, but I'm not impressed by what I've heard. Though Mads is a nice bit of eye candy and is the only reason I'm tempted to see the latest film XD
He plays Grindelwald in the latest movie.
- o.o grindelwald? i don't remember a grindelwald in hp. did i miss him or the reference to him? since they are hp prequels in a way they are sailing in mostly uncharted territory. why aren't you impressed with them? hate to say it but even the best eye candy can't always save a movie. :)
I think he was only mentioned in the last Harry Potter book. It's mentioned in that book he had the Elder Wand and Dumbledore won it from him, thus being able to defeat him.
I was imagining the Fantastic Beasts movie to be all about how Newt gathered all his data about the creatures in the Harry Potter universe. For one. Which would have been awesome!
Reviews of the second movie mentioned it not having a third act so it feels incomplete.
Now after the series came out JK said Dumbledore was gay* and in a sexual relationship with Grindlewald which is way it took so long for Dumbledore to truly fight against the other wizard. But in the movies there's a blood oath (forget the actual thing it's called in the series ARG) with scenes hinting at a gay relationship. And, yes, those scenes can be removed for China.
Again, I am happy that there are people who enjoy them. Not everything is going to be for everyone after all :)
no books of it. But stuff what is happening in these 3 movies are mentioned in the HP movies. There is a little booklet about fantastic beasts but that is more about what kind of animals there are with notes of harry and Ron. That book is made by Newt Scamander and he has lead role in the 3 movies. Also a young dombledore (Jude law) is in it.
- i vaguely remember the mention of the elder wand. seems rowling has a record of trying to score brownie points. honestly, i don't care about their orientation unless it directly impacts on the storyline. doesn't seem so but i'll save final judgement until i've "seen" the movies (since there are no books... x.x )
- my son reminded me of the book as he has it. important thing is if you liked it? i'm guessing you've seen the previous movies? how does the story play over the 3 movies? :)
I honestly wouldn't have made a big deal about their orientation but she did years ago. And when she had the chance to show it...she 'hints' at it instead of making it a very large part of the Dumbledore and Grindlewald feud like she said before the first Fantastic Beasts movie was released.
I guess it bothers me like Elizabeth Shaw getting killed offscreen between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant when the former movie promised an adventure where Elizabeth and David went to the Engineer's homeworld >.<
- yeah, i share your feelings about rowling. i think it's all about the publicity, if you ask me.
what is this about prometheus and alien:covenant? alien as in sigourney weaver/bill paxton? i'm movie-stupid right now. i haven't watched anything that's come out in the last few years. i also haven't kept up with anything unless it's been discussed here, like when you told me about the lighthouse movie. which i have yet to watch but will, i swear. 😀 you must tell me about these movies! (please) 😂
Yeah, most likely.
Prometheus is a prequel to the Alien series. Alien: Covenant is a sequel to Prometheus.
You just have to ask :)
Though, I'll warn you, I mostly watch horror.
- i love horror. especially if it makes me laugh. i'm a huge fan of the alien series. i like the earlier movies the best, though. when did alien: covenant and prometheus come out? is it that bad of a gaffe, killing shaw between the movies? could they make a movie that fits between them at a future time? what else is good from the last 3 or so years? :D
Prometheus came out in 2012 and its sequel came out in 2017.
The change of direction came from the fact that after the backlash from Prometheus, Ridley Scott over corrected course and put more aliens into the sequel. And the xenomorph designs are awesome but the sequel ends up throwing out the mystery of the Engineers in the process. Which was the underlying mystery in Prometheus which was promised to be answered in Covenant.
I love all horror. Good. Bad. Funny. Serious. Bloodless. Gore filled.
Edit: I saw Audition recently but it came out in 1999. It's a Japanese horror. It's a very slow paced film.
i saw all the movies, Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.
First movie we learn about Newt Scamander and it goes into the 2nd and 3rd movie about Grindewalt and Dumbledore. As mentioned on the HP books but more details, etc. Really good, more about pre- hp.
i like horror to but not the gooye ones like saw. Nightmare on Elm street, Scream, Final Destination, Alien...
Mornin' KSrs Meant to post sooner but wouldn't you know I got sick the evening after I posted about clearing out some long missing KS members.
Thank you for everyone that popped in and said hi :) I am sad it's not more. I hope to (I procrastinate a lot so I make no promise) reach out to individuals down the road. I don't expect daily participation. But I guess I would like to see the occasional checking in post, comment in discord or see members participate in a group thread - like gry's monthly challenges or event threads like the upcoming dancing for masq.
I can't talk much though, since I've been pretty mia for many months. Though I do try to participate in gry's challenges and event threads as much as possible.
Belated welcome and ❤

Thank you for popping in! Hope irl becomes less stressful for you very soon. waves Thank you for popping in! No worries. Most of us need some lurking time. I've been in lurk mode for nearly a year I think.
and everyone else who chats far more regular than I do atm - thank you so much for keeping the thread active and going. I appreciate you so very much!

just wanted to say your ha is beautiful I love it!
ahhh thanks
happy easter monday. Had sunday off, relaxed most of the day. Worked today and boy it was busy!
Just a note. Regularly I go to a site called Jigidi to do jigsaw vintage puzzles and did one called The Hand of Fate Game. Out of curiousity I looked it up and sure enough it was a real game that came out in 1901. Apparently it has been re-issued and can be bought as a board game to be played alone or with several others and always has a different ending. Needless to say I bought it and now I can't wait for it to come.
Hope you had a good Easter :)
Since I have a pork allergy I had steak =D
Though my mother in law makes the best ham so arg XD
I like the Final Destination (minus 4) and Scream. First Saw movie hardly had any gore but was framed to make you think you saw more than you did. Later movies, of course, increased the gore to the point the plots really suffered.
The Night House (2020) is good as it really builds up atmosphere and what happened is up to interpretation in a very good way. It's not a very gorey film and forces viewers to pay attention to the background. Honestly might need to rewatch it again for that part XD
Sneaky ;)
- i watched scream with my youngest. that boy sat there and laughed through the whole thing. i asked him why and he said the whole thing was absurd. 😂 we don't watch gore like the human centipede. he does like the halloween series with the first one being his favorite. one movie that scared the be-jebus out of me was jacob's ladder. i did not like that movie at all.
- people were probably getting garden gear since things will be blooming and growing here soon. my stepdad used to start his garden at the beginning of april. that man could grow anything and enjoyed it immensely.
- waves hi! glad you're feeling better. :) it's nice to see you come out of lurk mode. :D i'll be honest, i don't participate in the ha contests because it's a huge ordeal to get my hubby or son to help me "change my dress-up doll's clothes". even if i pull all the stuff i want and all they have to do is fix the layering and save it. rolls eyes boys. still afraid of playing with dolls, even pixel ones.XD
Scream is supposed to be funny as well as scary. I only watched it once I was an adult. I didn't do horror when I was younger. Except Stephen King books.
First Human Centipede is tame on the gore (though the concept...arg!) and the second one...well...I could hardly stomach it and am never going to watch the third movie.
Jacob's Ladder is good and has inspired a lot of other horror such as the Silent Hill games. The remake should be avoided at all cost. Just...no...
I like movies that scare me but they have to earn those scares. Antlers (2021) is very unnerving in a good way that is more than earned. It touches on the concept of family, basically.
