I am not sure how many places they even got to pick from, but its a reasonably big city (well, by our standards anyways :P), so we will see. :)

That's great that you've got a lot done :D Yesterday wasn't too bad (I spent a lot of time watching cheesey Christmas movies while Mum & Dad were out :P) but today is another "meh" day where I'm not going to get anything done.

We have a handful of that care home places local to here (there used to be more, but some shut down over the years), but somewhere that's on the coast tends to have loads of care homes as people move to the coast when they retire. I guess it's also down to how much care your Gran needs (if she can cope with just low level support, or if she needs more than that) for where might be suitable?

:snugs: Christmas, since my bestie is most likely going to stay here while she visits family. :D

She is going to need a lot of support since her health is deteriorating so fast and she can't even go to the bathroom without help anymore. Yet they want her to go home with only someone helping like 4 times a day and being able to call for more help. The thing is if that she calls for help, they are really busy and might take a while to get to her.

Niamh's grinning from ear to ear, so I think she likes the compliment :P

There's a couple of tv channels that are showing Christmas movies all day long, so I've recorded several that I think might be good ones - the movies are really really cheesey and the acting can be pretty poor, but at least they're Christmassy ;)

that doesn't sound ideal if they want her to be somewhere where she'd have to call for additional help. Do they have their residents in a communal lounge during the day? (that could make it easier if she does need the bathroom, as there would be staff nearby rather than having to go to her room to help)

They want her to go back to her own flat, which is just not realistic as she wont get enough care. She is staying where she is now until after the weekend.. not sure what happens after that yet.

I hope they can offer something more suitable for her, as that definitely doesn't sound like it'd work :(

Do they do any kind of assessment to decide what level of care they say a person needs? (over here they would even watch the person make a cup of tea, or have a shower, so they can assess if they're capable themselves or if they need help with each bit)

I am a bit mad that they are trying to send her back home really. o-o Not sure what kind of assesments they have done, but my mum, autnies and uncles have had meetings and has tried to argue that she needs more.

nods it just seems crazy! Is there anything like respite care over there? It's like a holiday in a care home where the person gets a couple of weeks there so either their carer can have a break, or just so they can have a proper level of care. Just wondering if something like that might help them see that she would benefit from that level of support, rather than just having help in her home.

That sounds like a good system. :) I am not sure if something like that exist either. They must have seen how she needs a lot of help at the place she is now,. They say they can't overrule it if my Gran decides she wants to go home either.

Not being able to overrule their wishes sounds like a common theme.... when my Grandad was in hospital, the staff phrased things to make him say he wanted to be home, even though he really couldn't cope there. So they'd say something like "you do want to be home, don't you?" then when he said "yes I want to be home" then that was written down as his desire. Once he was back home, he suddenly realised he couldn't cope.

Hopefully with your Gran they won't 'cheat' with how they phrase the question (or at least one of the relatives might be able to gently remind your Gran of how she's struggling at home, and how much better it'd be if she had more support (and maybe was able to see more people) somewhere else). squishes

I doubt you'd enjoy dinos rampaging, eating people (even if its largely off screen) and so on lol.
