Oh it has been a long, long ass day. Went to bed at 3am, got up at 7am and still up. Dad and I went to Atlanta today, first stop was the shelter in Atlanta. And I found a puppy to adopt. She's really sweet. She's black and white and totally adorable. She was very quiet and reserved in the kennel but more playful in the run where we got to play with her a bit... well watch her run. I've got a photos from the pound and one or two from getting home but we got home so late that I really havent had much energy to even think lol. We got home at 7.30pm. I've been taking her hour every half hour to an hour to get her potty trained and I got two or three more trips outside before bedtime. She's in her crate in the Scrapbook room cos she's got an upper respiratory infection and the vet recommended at least 24 hours on meds before being introduced to the cats. But I promised her I'll spend more time with her tomorrow. It's good to let her have some calm too. She had a 5 hour trip in the car, poor thing, and a bath so she's had a really long day. And mummy's spent. LOL I needa teach her how to play. I've decided to call her Melody. After the shelter, we went to get lunch at almost 2 pm...we got to the shelter at 11!! We had no idea it was going to take THAT LONG!!! I mean we wanted to see her at 11.15 and then we waited and waited and waited more. We did paperwork and that took awhile and ugh... Then we hit traffic and got to petco... but they had none of the food she had and the Crate was ridiculously overpriced. I'm not super thrilled with the crate idea but with 5 cats I think it's the best choice--the shelter recommended it. plus the scrapbooking room is 100 % NOT puppy proof so she can't be in there on her own without a crate. Anyway, then we went to petsmart which was out of the crate AND dog food... 😔. Then the british store for Christmas goodies--then we hit WAY more traffic.... finally we went to the local petsmart for the food and the crate and then bought dinner. THAN I finally got to pee LOL and took her potty, bathed her, set a tarp over the carpet in the sewing side of the scrapbook room...then let mum play while I showered off the shelter--THEN I got her medicine in her, played a bit fed and watered and unloaded the van and.... zzzzz....

Yay on the puppy, and Melody is a really sweet name! :d What breed(s) do you reckon she is? Using a crate overnight is definitely a good idea (and once she gets used to it and sees it as her 'safe' place, she might decide to just go and sit in there for a while during the day if the cats get too much for her ;)). Was she settled all night long, or was it all still too new for her to sleep through?

She was doing fairly well yesterday at least, she even had some coffee which she has not wanted in a couple of weeks.

Ohh, congrats on your new puppy! Sounds so adorable. Can't wait to see pics. :D

Thanks, if it doesn't work out soon, I am going to have to ask someone else to knit it.. or at least the parts I can't get right. There are some limit to how many times I can start over...

Yeah it keeps her out of things as well as keeps her calm and quiet when it's sleepy time. I got her a bed as well so she'll have both places lol but a place to hide from the cats is a good idea. As far as I know, she slept all night. She's been sleeping when I got her from 8pm tonight too. I've put her in bed and been taking her out for potty breaks. I really need the time to recoup cos it's been a long day today as well lol.

Ohh, I love both border collies and jack russels! Sounds like such a cute mix. I plan on getting my christmas decorations out of storage so I am ready to clean and decorate tomorrow.

Mum and I watched a christmas movie yesterday, first one this season. I usually end up decorating right before Dec. 1st and take it down on new years (except outdoor lights etc). ;)

was the Christmas movie any good? :) Normally I wouldn't start watching them in early November, but I wanted to try and get in more of a Christmassy mood ;)

We take our decorations down on Twelfth Night (Jan 5th), but there's usually at least one bit of tinsel, or some cards that stay up for most of January 😇

It wasn't bad. A bit cheesy, but most christmas movies are. :P I do like the original Home alone and Love actually tho. ;)

I just get tired of the decorations around new years. lol But a lot of people keep it up for longer here as well. :)

Melody's really sweet and clearly feeling better cos this morning she was a ball of energy lol. I'm pooped. Gotta get her a new chew bone though cos she's lost two baby teeth in two days so I'll get one softer. She's gotta have the right things to chew--and not our furniture ;)

I've never seen Love Actually :P hehe I can't blame you on that - I mean you do have them up for much longer than we do ;) At junior school we'd spend the beginning of December making decorations and hanging them up in the classroom. Then when the school term ended (probably December 19th or thereabouts), we'd have to take down all the decorations (they were left in school, we didn't get to take them home), so it felt like Christmas had finished even though we hadn't got to Christmas day at that point! o.O

no worries ;) Yeah, you definitely want to make sure she's crewing the right things! I can imagine she'll work her way through several chew toys over the next few weeks ;)

I exchanged the old treats for training treats today and bought her some other dental chews. This didn't last as long but also didn't seem to hurt so lol give and take I guess. I also bought her a Kong toy to put food in so she'll eat slower and chew the toy as she eats.

oooo I love the HA today :D That's fantastic that they let you exchange the treats for something more suitable for Melody :D and the Kong is a great idea :D

hehe Niamh says "thank you" and she's now running to the wardrobe, as apparently the outfit has been worn for too many days in a row so it's time to change :P [edit] ....assuming I can get the wardrobe to actually show the items that are in there (at the moment it's stuck on "loading your items")

I guess it made sense to get everything sorted before you went back to school after the christmas break, but I can see why it might have felt a bit weird. ;) There really was something about christmas when I was a kid, miss that. ;)

Aww, sounds like she is settling in nicely! Has she meat the cats yet, or have you kept them seperate for the most part? :)

a little bit of romance is ok in a film, but I get bored if the film is too 'lovey-dovey' :P

nods yeah, the teacher clearly didn't want to have to spend ages taking all the decorations down by herself after term ended, but we were 7 or 8 years old at the time, so it really seemed strange to be putting Christmas stuff back in the box when Father Christmas hadn't been! ;)

The weather's decided it wants to be wintery today - we've had really strong winds, a 4C maximum temperature and snow today! The snow melted as soon as it hit the ground, but it went with the Christmas movie I was watching laughs By Tuesday it's meant to be 10C maximum again o.O

but of both. I try to make sure she doesn't scare the kitties so she takes time with both on and off from the main room. And in the living room I have her on a lead so she can't go too crazy.

I guess that's also an advantage of Melody being so young - she might be faster at picking up commands :D
