I have not enjoyed talking to anyone in such a long time!!!! about 10 years. Thank you for putting up with me and my way of thinking. I can be off centered alot of the time. I do have a tendency to over think things like my craft because most people do not really look into to enough to understand that it is not just a poof and it is done type of thing. It is really upsetting like Bendy-Demon said earlier that too many people just think reading a book and doing a chant and that is it.... not many really study and understand it. My grandma really made me look into everything and be super picky about what I was doing and how I was doing everything, maybe that is why I am a nitpick person when I am doing anything to do with my Craft.... Oh sorry I am going off again..... time for another coffee or not lol lol ...

I only had a couple of his books but none on runes; you have a sharp eye to spot the mistakes and that is pretty awesome. There are so many authors out there and sometimes it is hard to pick out the gems especially if you have authors making rather glaring errors in their material.

some of it is having a good eye for detail and some of it goes to having a grandma who is very nitpicky and it grows on you lol.
I pay close attention to what I read or information of The Craft and of Wicca.
Yes there is so much information out there to pick and choose from, but when your taught from home teaching of WitchCraft from a child to an adult, I tend to believe in what my grandma teaches to what a lot of books say or what authors write or preach about. But this is just me...

That's the way to go, listen to an experienced person like grandma and the rest can be supplemental info.

Sad thing is not everyone has someone knowledgeable to teach them and thus rely solely on books and like you pointed out, many of them have glaring holes, omission of information and outright misinformation.

Though I am not in the craft right now I wish I had someone like your grandma to teach me things like that. You are very lucky.

Yes I was very lucky to have a Grandma to teach me as well as my daughter her ways and understandings. The sad thing is a lot out there are afraid to ask questions or to post anything due to so many out there that make damaging comments and say evil things about witches and our ways of doing things.

Sadly ignorance is not going to go away anytime soon and often that ignorance is compounded by the vast (and often deliberate) misinformation and disinformation. When I was on a wicca and witchcraft forum years ago I was rather dismayed that it was populated largely by teens who did not seem to understand that it goes deeper than just chanting and doing rituals; I tried to get people involved in a discussion that went deeper and farther than rituals and into the spiritual and psychological aspects but I guess that was asking for too much effort and when I realized that nearly everyone was content to just swim in their wading pool if what little knowledge they had then I left.

I bumped heads wit many people because I did not share their rather narcissistic and unrealistic views.

Leaving that group was the best thing you could do really for your own sanity. You need to look around for real groups with real people, it really can be frustrating to find real witches and real groups that have truth behind what they say and a real meaning. It can be a great thing when you do find that good group and good people can make a difference in how you think.

I have been in a few forums and each one seemed rather..immature in both its contents and the members and that is where part of the problem lies in that the people are young teens who think witchcraft is like the show 'Charmed' or something and they don't understand that waving a wand or chanting will not give you instant results. Again its that 'Equivalent Exchange' philosophy and I think this where many religions fail in that it is not emphasized that it takes real effort one ones own part that goes beyond chanting.

I took a break from wicca/witcraft until I could gain a more sober view of it all and I think this is what many sites are sorely lacking is that mature and sober insight and less of the fantasy.

Minsdet and attitude are far more important..at least that is what I think.

The need of getting away from anything that is remotely associated with teens or youth is the problem you need more adult orientated groups and people with like minds. You need to look deeper and look more into what you are interested in to find these type of people, those who can talk with understanding and more open minded type.

I wholeheartedly agree but finding such forums is pretty difficult PLUS it seems like such topics are not very popular anymore and that makes finding forums with people who are serious (and more mature) rather challenging.

However I have been away from the craft for so long that I am just not in the swing of it but then again one of the things that got me on the 'wrong' side was telling people that all those tools are like props, they can help but they are not the craft themselves; all those tools are not required unless it truly helps the individual. Kind of like cooking, you can have all the fancy tools but it won't do you a lick of good of you do not apply your skills and knowledge in a meaningful way.

You speak well and you understand that all you really need is your self to do any spell, ritual, hex or binding. Your finger can point the way to any thing you need to do in Witchcraft. you need not use gems, candles or even books to do anything it is the self understanding that you need most important. To realize you are the spell your doing or what ever and you can do it all if you ready and willing and believe in it.

Thank you and it is true that all you really need in the end is yourself and your heart and soul and the tools are just that, tools. They can help create and support the appropriate atmosphere if it truly assists the person but are not required. :)

Exactly, this is very true. All you truly need is yourself or your group working as one and thinking as one to get what you need done. Everything else you use can add or subtract energy from what your planning on doing. Everything you do MUST be planned out with care and understanding.
