really appreciate the update! Now then....should there be something in place for holidays? absolutely. as someone whos husband has to work many holidays...i know things must keep moving. (literally, hes a truck driver lol) however....everyone screaming and getting all over her because of this needs to chill out. their job? yes. should precautions be taken next year? yup. however do you think screaming they screwed up, how dare they fix a damn thing? nope. I thank you guys for the update, very reassuring. everyone else....chill
I want to say thank you to you and the others too but... Even if this can't be fixed, will everyone get the gifts they were given? I'd hate to think that things I sent have just vanished. Even if those I gifted don't know what I sent them, I'd still like to know for sure that the items made it.
Your gifts are safe and you will get all of them :)
Good to know. With all the confusion over this I was wondering if everything would arrive safely.
Yeah I don't know if the gifts were ever in question actually, but it's a valid concern to have.
I am with and ... It takes a lot of humility and kindness to admit mistakes and I was so impressed hun. Take care of yourself. It will be okay. and hey just think some of us gifting others would be kind of like gifting anonymously. so that isn't too bad right? anyways. whatever the outcome it will be okay. mistakes happen and life goes on. besides losing a few pixels or names is first world problems and no big deal in the great scheme of things. THank you for working hard for us and yes like the rest of the kind subetans here have already said. get your sleep please. IT is true you could make a mistake losing sleep but also again this is a first world problem its not like you sent an atom bomb to someone by mistake right? so its fine really. waiting a few hours is no big. we love you and hope the fix goes smoothly. <3

Sorry for editing to ping you but you're the one I see on Forums most often? /Just wondering if the site downtime I've been experiencing for the last half hr or so has been due to the tree issue being worked on, or something else going on? It's been over an hour now for a lot of people?
Ah, good, I'm not alone in the huge amount of bad gateways and blank white pages popping up then. I logged in to check messages, tried to come here to view the pings I received, and took forever just to read a few pages. I wonder if this will even post, lol.
(Also wow @ some of the people in the last few pages... Asskissing, really? That's what ya'll want to call it? Okay. Sure.)
edit: yay it actually posted

Blank pages and cloudfare errors have been AWFUL today. I assume something is being worked on and since grelca said she'd be working on the trees I'd guess it's that..
Edit: I'm like 90% sure at this point, 9:04 Subeta time, the site has been more down than up all day.
Am I the only one getting a getaway problem with Melody? :/ I am going to miss the achievement because of this issue.
Its the entire site. It looks like its been rocky and half/mostly down pretty much all day.
What's going to happen to the gifts now? I'm so lost..
Downtime had nothing to do with gifts, and as mentioned in the news post they are being fixed and should be out this week.
I am very glad that this is being discussed with positive replies and negative because everyone is free to say their opinion (only when someone is name-calling, that's immature) But from what I can see there were only replies from people who have been on this site for YEARS and been through a lot of positive and unfortunately negative experiences because this was not the first major event were something went wrong and I am very glad someone has spoken up about it. I am disappointed that the staff still hasn't worked on their problem that their is only ONE PERSON TO FIX THINGS! That is really the major issue I see with these last weeks again, that there was this one person everyone had to wait on to fix things. Usually someone should be on call to be able to fix things and if not that, just clear everything so that the other person doesn't have the whole mess on themselves! That's what I thought when I saw grelca's reply, why was she the only one to work on this/the one to blame/ the one to fix this?
And I agree, no one wants to work on the holidays, it sucks and a lot of people don't, but on a website that's accessible 24/7 there should be someone on call that is able to look over if everything is fine and if it isn't, should be able to contact the PEOPLE who can resolve the issue and etc. That's usually how a business works and Subeta is not only a gaming site, it's a BUSINESS, as small as it is. Idk, I am just glad that it's able to be resolved and I AM SO HAPPY that Subeta is (at least partially) transparent about what caused this all (the downtime is something different), I just see so much potential in staff and this site, and it's been here so many years and it makes me sad that something always happens and that's what I see from these negative responses, just people who are disappointed that this website is not living up to its potential... (yet?)
That's really all I want for 2016: that staff takes responsiblity and works through their issues that happened in the last years and act on it, not only momentarily, but also business-wise, so it can thrive and it can continue to grow. This year was really nice with so many people joining and enjoying the site and its many awesome features, but I really hope these mistakes won't happen again, so even more people can enjoy it and not be disappointed...
and
I have a question about this process, and I hope I'm just overthinking this!
If someone has to go through and manually reinsert all the items given out for a span of five days to about 1000 users, that's a lot of items. That is also a lot of room for mistakes.
Is there any checks in place here? What happens if someone types in the wrong item (for example beanbag vs plushie or forgets to add "sticker"), the completely wrong item (ie shoe or shirt from a set with the same theme name), or just misspell an item altogether? Would we get a broken item in our inventory to know something went wrong or would just nothing happen?
Without a list of what was given we have no way to match that up with what we actually receive.
Manually inputting at the minimum hundreds of items is just ripe for typing errors and I'm honestly worried we won't know if there is a mistake.

Manual input isn't automatically faulty compared to scripts. I've done a lot of manual input over the years and when you're fixing an error you're a lot more careful to get things right.
Let's not paint the walls black and listen to emo music quite yet.
Manual input of hundreds (likely thousands) of items is finiky. I help run a couple of threads that involves lots of item entries and I know how easy it is to make a small typo. All it takes is one letter out of place for an item not to register.
Ordinarily I'd agree with you that it isn't automatically faulty however with the sheer quantity of items and the pressure to get it done asap, this is sadly just ripe for errors. And I'm just not sure if we will know there's been a mistake. I honestly hope I'm wrong and there's a check system in place.
I don't see how pointing that out is an overreaction at all and I'd hardly call my post "emo".

I really hope she's not doing manual data entry, because that's kind of insane? Especially for a programmer who should have (or should be able to create) better tools.

While explaining what was going on to my husband, he stopped me mid-sentence to ask why someone didn't just write a script to handle the manual insertion of items. I sincerely hope that's what is being done, because a script can't make typos, leave out entire words, or make other human errors that a person is bound to make at least once with a literal thousand pieces of data entry.
I haven't been active enough lately to care that much about all the downtime, to be honest, but I am a little sad that errors this time of year are basically expected. I mean, I appreciate the GA and the CSC and all, but it feels a little like a distraction from the bigger problems.
Has the DDoS attack been going on for a month? Because that's how long I've been getting Error 504. Either the attack has been going on for that long and no one noticed, or you have some serious other problems.
Js.pusher has been lagging and crashing my Firefox for weeks.
Cloudflare keeps throwing up 504's if I try to buy anything to do my quests, or open a gallery, or a petpage, or a long forum thread.
Now it's an Amazon server problem? Fuck that. You've had 11 years to find reliable servers and make working scripts and hire programmers that know how to do their jobs/will be there/don't take 78 hours to contact. We've become so used to crashes and lag on the holidays it's horrifying. Every time this happens, we get thrown a couple of bucks worth of GA or CSC and everyone forgets about it.
"You have spent 147,090 CSC on 670 items in the Cash Shop." Yeah, I'm tired of supporting you. I hope you enjoyed Black Friday, Keith, because it's the last time you'll get a penny from me.
