Maybe since the demographics have been moving lower every year, they might expect to capitalize on some of the already existing users for their new apps, saving them marketing costs and that annoying initial phase where audience must be built/losses happen. Neopets is still an easily recognizable brand, anyway. But those would be the casual kids who whine to their parents every time they want a new toy, not the young adults who spent multiple years working towards goals and attempting to keep their account safe x_X

I do think many of those people might end up joining us, but it also worries me. Neo had SUCH a large userbase! Supposing a -really- good marketing campaign, could Subeta survive a few/several thousand more players? :/ Could Subeta survive a few thousand new battlers, heavy battling everyday?! XD

Maybe now would be the best time to iron out the kinks which make starting here such a daunting task. Consolidate the newbie stuff, encourage people to have a reason to come back by setting out 'starter quests' and clean up map navigation with text links for support. A lot of this has been discussed before; now seems like the best time to push through anything that can be pushed in hopes to capture some of that audience and at least get people on board before we take bigger steps forward.

I know this sounds very idealistic, but it seems imperative to take some steps towards making it all more newbie friendly if an influx could be coming our way.

Neopets has a bunch of really recognizable petspecies and I'm sure that and me would kill for something close to the Blumaroo.

Omg blumaroos yes. I loved the Chef Bonju character, it had an avatar that made people mad for almost 3 years.

I think another 1K battlers onsite is a blunt-forced-cause for this to be considered now more than ever hahaha it already can't handle the battlers it has in mass omg WE'D KILL THE SITE.

A good chunk of the scamming and hacking on Neopets happened because it was near impossible to make good money, which isn't the case here

lol my skype group was actually just talking about how subeta should capitalize on the mass exodus out of neopets. while it may or may not truly be dying, one cannot deny that a core group of its userbase is likely leaving with no intention to return at this point, especially with such a fundamental portion of the neopets staff now cut loose.

As great as it would be to have 1000's of new players - Could the subeta servers cope with this or would the rotten core collapse under the strain? o.0 I vote trying to FIX the coding before trying to get a ton of new people to sign up, where the majority would come and see broken things everywhere and be like 'meh' and move on before even really giving it a chance.

Fixing the coding will take years, and we don't want these new players to go to the competition. And right now, it's silly to say, but we lag less and crash less than Neopets does right now (It takes me like 2 to 3 minutes to LOAD THE FRONT PAGE) so everything is an improvement.

Yes, it would have been fine if the site was recoded 2 years ago, but right now, there is no ideal world, there is only reality. And, the reality is that we have to recruit people now. We have a golden chance here. We cannot wait for after the recode because we will have missed the best chance Subeta had to get on top of the petsite world.

In 2 years, Flight Rising will probably be fully open, with no registration windows, maybe jumpstart will have succeeded at reimagining Neopets.

People joined the site a lot, even when the site was taken down every few hours to restart the servers, people joined a lot when the site was down every saturday morning, because this site has heart, this site has content and this site has a future.

Neopets is loading for me fine. I managed to get in, buy some stocks, click the free food link, collect interest from the bank all in 2ish minutes... I get your enthusiasm, and I do believe your right in that the time is now...only problem is, is subeta ready?? Subeta gets seriously slow for me when there is more than 1k online at a time....add another 1/2/3k+ users and I'd be scared the whole site would collapse and never wake up... Anyhow I'm sure flight rising will still suck and be boring in 2 years from now since in the 9 montha I've been there, nothing exciting at all has happened :x

Funny, I have no problem getting on Subeta unless there is an event going on. Even there, it is a lot better than it used to be.

Yes, I'm enthusiastic because we finally have an opportunity to get a recode. Right now, it seems to be pushed back a lot, because the slow userbase growth wouldn't justify the expense.

But now? It's a different game we're playing. People have already started to move on the site, right now, it's running fairly well, and I want to see Subeta do better. Change is scary, yes, but what is happening can benefit us, if we are smart about it.

Great userbase growth can push a successful recode, I feel it. If we do manage to get a boost in new members, and in returning members as well, recoding the site will be more worth it.

One question that I am not sure has been asked, but..did neopets have an age restriction? I know we do. I know people might argue, who cares free people! but still.. if their not..

You needed to be 13 or to have a signed parental authorization form to access the public parts of the site, such as the forums.

Lying about being 13 and over when you are not, is also a freezable offense here, so you don't have to worry about this.

don't get me wrong, subeta is loading fine for me as well, I haven't had any lag since...I don't even really know when. Unless you count the forums, then they are always laggy for me these days since 'fixing' them. If subeta feels like it can hold a few thousand more players then I'm not complaining. But we need to get this recode on the road NOW and make the site even stronger and newbie friendly - i cant really remember much about my first weeks here except that everything was hugely confusing, I didn't know what the heck I was doing and if I hadn't migrated over from neo with quite a lot of other people and already had a friend here for a few months, I don't think I would have stuck around for long. I'm glad I did though, I love subeta now as much as you do and want to see it flourish, not drown.

Staff are working on making everything more newbie friendly as we speak, because if I didn't have friends who joined at the same time as me, I would have been so lost!

So if we start recruiting people now, how do we keep them interested and playing when they are super confused about what to do? A lot of people wouldn't even really think to come and ask in the forums, speaking only for myself I sign up to sites a lot and look around a while, if things seem to complex I don't really bother again. Like flight rising is really simple and self explanatory - breed, battle, exalt bla bla, but subeta is quite complex and there is a LOT to do here

They're working on updating the newbie guide with useful links, quests, games, battle guide. I haven't seen the newbie guide (because it was made after i joined) but I hope there is going to be a way for us to access it, to see if it can be improved! I suggested it and I'm waiting to see if it's going to be possible

Like I said, staff is working on that right now. They want this to work out as much as we do.

I guess if a lot of people from neo come it will prove well..the stress on the serversxD Hopefully it's not as bad as I think it will be/for my two days of down time. Some might go and some might stay. Hopefully more stay then go.
