Kinda fits the whole Event though.
Aren't 90% of subeta's events like this though? "Click this X times. Collect X of these." Rarely are their events exciting and wonderful and stuff.
Hasn't been like that since.. maybe the saphric plot? Since then it's been kind "Oh, Another event. Lets turn that Autorefresher on"
Shut up & Lets Play! Youtube Channel
There is a "contest" to make a cake, for the Subeta anniversary "event. There was a "contest" to make a CW, but Peka-Boo was an "event".
Surely you see the difference?
Very true. I guess I just didn't think of it that way since I've been here long enough to remember the ones that were actually enjoyable like the Pandemic, omen islands thing, masquerade murder and the saheric one.
Of COURSE this feedback is being taken into account! This was the first event of its kind
Putting the same things in a different order doesn't make it a completely new thing. ... I feel like the entire prize distribution was gone about with the mentality of "Nothing like this has ever been done before! I can do whatever and can't be blamed because it's a first, how could I have possibly known that this is about as unbalanced as a Jenga tower built by a 2 year old."
Not only do I agree with but I also fail to see how a group event is new. I wasn't here for these but, I was under the impression that the restock wars were a group event? Restock war = join a team and contribute to the team. BotB = join a team and contribute to the team. Or in this case you could join a team, not contribute, and still be rewarded. Which is what we've all been trying to get at. :( A prize shop would have simply solved all of that, though it's far too late to be implemented at this point.
I mean I spent a pretty good chunk of vacation time trying to coordinate stuff with my band, and we didn't make it to finals after all that work. I don't really get how the "participate in general" prize was the same as the "hey you made and joined a band that had to take probably more work than clicking the support button (which we still had to do anyway)" . I mean as someone said with tiers, there really should have been tiers there. A prize for anyone who at some point made/joined a band. Different participation prize for those who support a band. On up.
I feel for everyone who's posting about the prize skew. I received five and admittedly I don't know why it's not three or less. I played the game (admittedly not the best, but I sent some decent scores and played more than once or twice), like I said worked hard on making a band even if we didn't get into the finals, then went on to support another - who didn't win or be a genre winner. And it's sad that I'm wondering why I don't have less prizes despite taking part in each aspect of this.
Also, it's nice to see stepping in to try and assess what she can do, but pointing out that this wasn't 's idea isn't your (her) job. Not a gripe, or even like, an annoyance. Just some friendly advice from a concerned user appreciating you guys attempting to communicate more.
A manager/boss/owner/whatever-that-title-is is supposed to direct fire away from the decisions their team is making because as that "person of higher title" they are supposed to be privy to and trust their team's judgement - and even when the team does make a blunder, it is under that leadership. It's not supposed to be the job of someone in a team management/one-under position to take heat off the higher up. Again, not a gripe, not me saying "omg what are you guys thinking Keith is X and you are Y" because I totally get that it's a team effort and you all are looking out for each other, which is great. It's just one of those things coming from the business world that can cause unnecessary fires - because now has to hold and defend everything she's done without seeming like she has the support of in her choices - which she most likely does (even if Keith may or may not agree with everything Rah did here, he likely understood the logic behind her original assessments and would defend that).
Just so I don't seem like I'm making up random junk to seem like I'm griping, because I'm seriously not griping. I know you guys are trying to communicate more and better- which I guess is why I'm bringing it up? I appreciate that staff has been responding here and trying to work something out, seriously just a helpful pointer. anyway: Here is an article that references my point from Mashable and I mean they are pretty smart
In particular, this paragraph: "Shields the team: A top manager takes the blows ... and doesn't throw team members under the bus. When the team takes a wrong turn based on the manager's direction, he or she fesses up and admits mistakes."
Edited to say I mean I know Rah was kinda like managing this event so the point is a little skewed, but I mean, it's Keith's site he had to have an idea of what is happening is all I mean. It just seems like Rah has to take a lot of fire right now because she seems alienated by saying it wasn't Keith's idea - which it's good for her to admit her involvement, but it makes it that much harder to dig yourself out because without Keith here, it's hard for it to seem like she had any support going into this - regardless of the less than desirable outcome, which I'm sure neither of them foresaw and obviously (hopefully) want to remedy. Does that make sense? I hope that made sense.
I think the main reason did that is because was being pinged by users wanting answers, and he is on vacation at Burning Man with no internet access all week...
Also, is a manager. She took over as Creative Director...
: I mean I realize that. I stated the situation is skewed because she is indeed a director/manager in her own right. The point does remain though that if Keith owns the site, it isn't Rah's need to take the fire for him. I was just saying the way she worded it, followed by the user responses to her, made it seem like she's now pegged down in a hole by people expecting her and her alone to figure this out - when despite Keith not being involved, it still is his site and I would hope that her plans did have his go ahead/support. I get that he's got no internet access, and I'm totally not saying Rah shouldn't be involved or that Keith should be doing X or Y. Just as I read the comments from where I sit, it seems like she's a little inundated now with people firing at her on it, and she seems like she's trying so hard that all I meant was this isn't all her, there was a meeting somewhere where she got the go ahead on this and it was a team decision. And as a team she's trying to take ownership for her part which is important, but as a lead above her, Keith also gave the go ahead so it's not -all her-.
That's all I meant, from a business perspective. I get that he's at Burning Man and I don't mean like OMG KEITH TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I'm sure he'd be here answering questions if he had access, and I'm sure Rah is just doing her job trying to figure everything out! I just looked at what was said, and what followed, and it seemed to me like the wording and then Keith's absence might have caused the pot to stir a little faster. It was seriously meant as just like, I care and want things to go well for you guys .... never an omg I cannot believe you did this. I totally understand and likely would have said the same thing if I were Rah. I guess I just meant hindsight is 20/20 and I know they're always looking to do better at communicating. It was just something I noticed. Nothing against anyone involved.
I think it's safe to say that thid event ruined a lot if things. Faith in future plots, faith in staff to right wrongs that should have been obvious. I'll never again look through team "options" based on my personal preference and will instead go with the biggest boat. It's pretty obvious this ordeal id leaving scars with many users, and staff's disinterest in fixing this is just going to make them heal slower.
Cutting off the nose to spite the face, etc.
The biggest problem here, though, really is this: Most, if not all, of the staff running subeta often admit they do not play their site.
To a degree, understandable. I don't like to hang out at my job or do stuff I don't like to do either. However, while I'm at work I can't just run some statistics against database queries and take it upon myself to fix random crap that might not even matter. If I do, I have to do advanced queries (all pipe over x diameter in a class area of 2,3,4 missing long_seams. Far more important than just everything missing a long seam). Just because statistically it might look like x% of users collect plushies or whatever doesn't make that a vital statistic.
How many users have 90% or more plushies in their collection? What about 80%? How many plushies out of the entire collection cost over 10m? How many users stop collecting when they hit the 10m+ mark? Maybe only 25% if users collect plushie past 10m but only 5% of users try to carry on to the end? Maybe the problem isn't only 50 people collect plushies, but that 500 users would if they could more-easily afford them.
When talking about a collection, 250 csc/8.5m is A LOT per item. It sounds like a deflated prize but here's a rough stat from a book collector:
12 collection books per year = $30 (12 x $2.50) $30 in csc (17.5 per 500 csc card) = 105m per year on just the collection book (or plushie, or beanbag). Not counting the +5 MC books per season that are, what, 5m each? That's an additional 100m per year. Or the regular CS books released.
Or the challenger books, that was fun! That was $60/210million in CS books last year! Though, since I'm a battler, it was actually $90/315 MILLION. On top of plot books, MC books, other CS books, game books, questshop books, etc.
Then, then, on top of this, there's a crypts book that was traded for a SWASHBUCKLE (I think that's about 600m?) and overly MIA from the system, and of course there's the 400m book for deleting an Ether. And this is why people say collections are IMPOSSIBLE. How am I supposed to save for a non-existent 600m book or the ether book when I'm too busy spending all mt money keeping up with collection/cash shop/MC/plot books?
I can't give any personal stats on other collections because HAHA I can only afford to stay afloat with one kthx, but I'm sure someone else can. I know the same math applies to anything in every collection at least, though.
Who thinks staying a float is fun? Obviously the answer is provided by staff who don't play the site, and overall collector statistics.
- I'm glad to hear that because with the release of new items it becomes less and less a reality to fully complete a collection. If anything the best compromise would be to have the achievement read something like own 90% of the plushie/sticker/beanbags currently on site. This way the achievement is still obtainable but requires a lot of work and effort to complete.
Okay, I've been pinged to this thread a few times now, so I feel like I should weigh in. I can't say anything about Pekaboo/Battle of the Bands and how entertaining it was or not. I was out of the country when it started and didn't care to catch up when I got home (although, I see now, I should have tried based on prize distribution)!
But I can contribute to this discussion: A Creative Director does have some responsibility to take heat for a creative event that flops. Likewise, s/he can also bask in a little glory when it goes well! I disagree with the concept that if it fails, blame the director, and if it succeeds, thank Keith, which seems to be the way it goes. As said, Keith had little to do with the planning and executing of this event, and that's pretty typical for most events. Oftentimes, he will have an idea ("We need a zombie infestation!!" Or "let's do something this summer!") and the Creative Department does the rest.
That said, I don't think it is appropriate to lay blame 100% at her feet for prize distribution or item choices. Doesn't Subeta employ two Item Administrators?? Not to throw anyone in particular under a bus, but more to say this was a collective oversight and failure, may have pitched the proposal for prizes and distribution, but the two girls whose job it is to deal with item rarities and pricing and manage availability for collections might have stopped her and said, "Hm, maybe this isn't such a good idea."
I actually liked how the feedback was handled. Thank you very much
But of course the wearables won't be available.
This isn't nearly as much of a fix as I personally would have liked.

Much love to staff for the addition of the achievements and trophies, and for distributing more of the collectibles. ❤️
Well, most complaints were about collection items, and those has been released now. And the vinyl and sticker will be available soon.
I still didn't earn anything extra. I was expecting a trophy since I thought it was top 25% not top 25 users. So I personally still feel shafted but ohh well.
BUT I am very grateful that more of the items are going to be released and that the trophies and achievements were added! More items in circulation is a good thing and I'm interested to see how the Vinyl will be released later. Thank you guys for listening to feedback.

I was one of the finalist bands and I got the flyers + plushies when I went to claim my prizes again. The wearables that aren't themed after the winner and runner-up have been made more available.
Even if I feel like the staff responses on this topic have been a little bit on the lukewarm side, I am really glad to see that the problems voiced here haven't fallen on deaf ears. I'm even more glad to find out that the collectable items (vinyl and sticker) will be available for anyone who wants to earn them during the 10th anniversary celebration.
All in all, I'm happy that staff re-distributed stuff and handed trophies out to those who really earned them. Mad props to those who managed to keep playing the game for hours.
It's good that they're doing something, certainly, but frustration over the wearables has been a part of the discussion as well as anger over the limited collectable stuff. Would it have been so hard to handle both at once?

I'm not sure how you expect them to handle both at once since those prizes are exclusive to the band and their supporters? What's the point of making an event if they simply gave the winner-specific top-tier prizes out to everyone who participated? Unless I'm missing something obvious. :c
[edit] explained it better than I could. :'D
The reasons no more of the HnR wearables have been released is because, unlike collections items who are consumables (once a book is read it's gone and once a plushie/beanbag/sticker is in a collection it can'g be taken out), wearables never dissapear from the system.
There's about 200 of each of the wearables out (minus the lime eyes since those are our exclusive prize), which is significally more then a lot of other wearables. To keep their values and exclusivity the HnR wearables have not been made more avalaible.
The books, sticker and plushies have had more copies since they posed a problem with avalaibity in the far future, when most of them would be stuck in collections or read.
