I wonder if subeta has realized that changing the language on the collector achievements that most of the complaints would cease?
Also as someone who collects minions, please don't consider us just cause we don't have achievements attached to our efforts.
I feel like I should add this: We initially wanted a signed tour program as the book, but it was suggested to get a vinyl. The reasoning behind the vinyl being readable was that most classic rock vinyls come with some sort of insets/booklets (just like CDs often have booklets). Since a vinyl item was more aestically pleasing (and a nice TC item as well as a very relevant item for a band tribute) we decided to go with that.
Now it's another debate as to if the other CD items should be readable, but that was at least our reasoning for selecting a vinyl as the book!
Wait what? That is a book? How the hell do you even read that, there are no words! It's a musical device.
So not one, but TWO ridiculously rare book rewards for an event that had nothing to do with books or reading or smart pets. How the hell was this justified? I seriously want to know.
Please don't stop making plushies and books and the like plot prizes, but do stop making them the elite prizes that only a handful of people earn.
Fuck it. The supporters of that band and the members are millionaires if they decide to sell their stuff. I think this might be one of the most costly plots Subeta has put on.

I have explained the reasoning behind the vinyl being a book in my post above you!
Bottom line is: there was always going to be a book. The format might not be ideal, but it was a better item then a tour program!
(I do not wish to contribute to this debate any further, I just thought I'll give you guys an explanation as to why the vinyl is a book!)
I saw your post right after I posted mine :) Thanks for explaining the reasoning behind it. Still confusing though from an item prospective. I could see the flyers being a book, you read flyers after all, but not a vinyl. For awhile staff were good about making items more obvious as to what they did. Subetalodge didn't even have it flagged as a book until very recently.

We initially discussed having the description mention that there was some sort of booklet or inset, but this seems to have been left out (probably was just forgotten since it's been a while!)
Also I'm fairly sure there was an error when it was initially released since a friend couldn't read it when they first got it!
Ive read a few comments from people worried about how much people paid in sp's to buy the tems they didnt get as a prize. But I dont see them mentioning anything about how much real cash us collectors have spent buying the stickers/plushies for our collections. They also mentioned more achievements, but you have killed off the chance for us stickers collectors to ever get the achievement for having all the stickers. I really dont see any incentive to ever buy another sticker from the cash shop.
...yes sure hehe, I'd be thrilled to win something and then get to be Subq designer for a day 8D
Just to kind-of-repeat things other people have said, I do vote for prize shop, but I think points shouldn't be limited to the one game! There could be points attributed to making a band, supporting a band, buying food/medical aid on the trunks/tents, visiting the shrub, maybe even petting a goat (of course these activities would have to have a daily cap)! Then yeah, the one game could allow you to get even more plot points (which could have a daily cap too, to normalize scores), plus incentives for making the high score table AND bringing your team/band to victory ^_^
Of course having a prize shop doesn't exclude giving some things out for free on top of plot points, too! That would be the case for finalist and winner band members plus (a varying amount, depending on individual point count) winner band supporters. Or a % point increase, or... you know, things along those lines. c:
this isn't a jab at anyone from H&R - it's a jab at poor staff reasoning.
Okay I haven't been here long enough to know how every event ever went down, but from what I've seen [EPICon, RD, Masquerade, Vesnali] they are ALL prize shops. And they ALL WORK. Oh look, Pekaboo had a game, that awarded points. THAT WOULD'VE WORKED.
Well it's good to know there was at least some logic behind that (when it comes to subeta, that's often a luxury) that doesn't really justify there being two books, and one of them being rather skirtish.
Staff have rejected useless items being turned into books for less reasons than the vinyl, so I still feel like that's a BS typical "because it sounded good" subeta reason to make that readable. But that was staff's choice, and I don't hold it against anyone in the winning band as I'm sure if a different band won they would have done the same.
I think this event has just taken the role of the straw on the camel's back and brought to life a lot of deep-seeded event/plot related resentment, especially in terms of collectibles as top tier prizes (when staff have claimed again and again that they don't want the site to feel like it's only catering to old users who've been around for long enough to have bought all of the old items when they first appeared, and that everyone has a chance to finish collections). Which really sucks for HnR's because while I have a very bad taste in my mouth over the entire BotB thing, I don't hold it against the band and it really sucks that it's the band's name getting dragged into the ground, but if it was another band they'd be in the same boat right now thanks to staff's wonderful choices pertaining to this event.
I don't think it was a popularity contest, I don't care about the giveaways, I don't give a rats ass about CWs being used or not used, I like most of the people in the winning band (those I remember anyways, I'm not good with names). I don't think 6 items was fair, but that has nothing to do with who won it wouldn't be fair regardless. I don't think people who put in a lot of effort in the games should have gotten shafted (I scored like 200 points total, so I'm not talking about myself here at all, the game gave me intense anxiety and I had to leave the PC so I wouldn't vomit and claw my skin off), and I don't like how staff's new solution to everything is "Tough tits, don't like it there's the door you self-entitled twat".
I wasn't self-entitled to assume we'd get storm potions in the TS if nothing else with the tempest-not-plot that lasted longer than this I might add, and I don't feel I'm self-entitled when I feel the single game point earning system was bullshit.
Thank you for attempting to justify the viynl record, but at the end of the day you're just a user like the rest of us. It isn't your responsibility to try and justify what the site's staff members did or didn't do.
PS: to whomever said they spent time restocking and for everyone to grow a pair and something about sour grapes-- cute. Last I checked there hasn't been a single plot that involved subeta NULL AND VOIDING all points someone made, up until now, because they picked the wrong side. Every restock war/omen war/epicon had a prize shop for each team. The winning team just got special item access. The only worse case was if you tossed a flower to Amy, and Keith finally righted that and gave those users access to their points back.
So, bullshit try again.
And yet we got two exclusive book prizes, not one. |D (This is not aimed at you or your band, mind - it was entirely a staff decision and no one blames you guys!). tipped me off about the vinyl being readable, thankfully. I don't think people are so much outraged that it IS a book, but that it's a book on top of there being ANOTHER book already. It's unnecessary. 8|
Disclaimer: I bought both books as soon as prizes were released and I didn't do jack through this entire event, so I ain't even mad. But that doesn't make this system any less unbalanced - not everyone will be as lucky as I was.
Okay let me rephrase that: there was always going to be a book since we, as a team, wanted diversity in the items so we decided to get a book (it wasn't a staff requirement to make a book. We had no requirements as to what the item type should be). There's both quite a few battlers and collectors in the band, and they thought a book would be nice. So we got a book. From the start we knew we wanted a book, but the actual item form evolved into a vinyl later on (I was actually the one who wanted a vinyl for a tc) So basically our thought process went: diversity > book > signed tour program? Signed ticket? > signed vinyl
However, we didn't knew how those items were going to be distributed. The battlers and collectors mentioned before are also a bit bummed by the distribution since it means they can't get several copies of the items (one to keep and one to use!)
Can I add that is big on emphasizing participation during events, you know like playing Street Team everyday as opposed to supporting a winning team with one click.

I feel like this thread is getting out of control on specific "well now it's hard for me to get the thing I want" posts, when that isn't the main issue. Yes it's annoying, but a lot of plots have had desirable (for whatever reason: reading, collecting, being really cool looking..) items that are extremely limited. It's a little disappointing but not the core of why people are upset with the Peekaboo prizes, and the tangents are kind of taking away from that.
It's the weight of the distribution that's the problem: that things that took more effort (making a band, making a band that gets to the finals, even winning a category in the finals, playing the game and getting high scores every day) got very little reward, that the only thing that really paid off (aside from the 5 main winners and 5 runners-up, who of course worked hard for this) was happening to pick the right band, and that even after picking a band an individual's effort barely mattered. Scores weren't averaged against supporters, high scorers got nothing, there was only one way to make points, and for most people those points didn't matter anyway.
You could do nothing the entire time, waltz in and pick Horns & Roses on a whim, never play the game or look at the forums again, and bam! nearly a full set of prizes in your inventory. Or if you did make a band but it got cut and THEN you happened to pick Horns & Roses, that's worth more than if your own band was second or third best. The element of luck is fine, the element of popularity is fine, but the weighting distribution is bizarre and doesn't pay off effort.

...How on Earth is 24 items "too few" for a prize shop? o__o
And again, I'll repeat that I am not saying anything in reference to the prizes for this. My questions have all been in reference to future events/prizes.
Ok, I mistook that, then. :U Nnnnever mind.
It's cool. Apparently I failed in my wording the first time around. I sometimes have issues with thinking something enough that I assume I actually wrote it out, but...oh well. I'm working on my communication skills. ;)
That's something that's been/being talked about actually!
