I like the hoarding achievements and I for one do NOT want them to retire! In fact I think they should add a tier for having 100,000 items in your shop (not unique) =^-^= and maybe 150,000 too! since I'm almost there.

Yeah the site lags a little when I try to get into my hoarding shop You have a total of 143117 items in your shop Total items in gallery: 25008/58450

But it's not that bad. and even if they do retire the achievements it's not going to stop my hoarding addiction, so nothing solved. I will keep hoarding.

I don't like the idea of having just one of each item anyways.. if you are doing item hunt, then what? You are going to have to buy that item, hopefully it will be cheap. But if you had an extra in your hoarding gallery then no worries.

I plan to own everything on site, someday. Pipe dreams I know....

What really lags, and I mean lags a lot! is my wishlists!!!! I have to refresh many many times to even get that page to show. It is much much worse than my gallery!!!!

"No, just no. If it's retired, then you're SOL. I was working on the Computer Geek quests, and they were suddenly retired without warning. It sucks but no, sorry."

Can I just ask why? Is it mainly because you have been screwed over before?

I'm with Jules. If the achievement is retired, I'll damn well keep on hoarding anyway. If, on the other hand, the achievements are left, I'll clear out my hoard after I reach them and either sell or frag the majority of items.

If they don't retire the hoarding achs, we will ALL be FOREVER in the middle of trying to get them. I'm 100% in favor of retiring them! I can't wait to use/frag/sell all that crap! I keep telling myself to just do it, but also, moving all that is such a PITA!

how much notice are you going to give before they are retired? It'd be good to know what I have to work towards, even though I am still so far away from my goal.

..

goes back to what i said before.. hoarders will keep hoarding.. you won't make any difference. all my items will still be in my gallery.

As far as slowing down on quests, you don't buy from galleries, so how is shops lagging during quests even an issue? If your looking at someone's hoard , you are doing it on purpose.

If you have categories in your gallery , then it loads better since it's not all items at one time. Just like wishlist.

If we could frag all those " retired, holiday, game " items then we wouldn't have to hoard those useless items . what can we do with them? nada.

And as i suggested before, if we could keep the clothing hoard items in our wardrobe and still have it count in our hoard gallery, there would be alot less items in our hoard being seen by people who are obviously curious, and only 1 person ever looks in a persons wardrobe.

The only way you'll get rid of strain on the site is getting rid of useless items ( retired, holiday, game). Don't punish us for the challenge you gave us, without considering what would happen a few years down the road.

another thought, why does it have to be " hoard 40k unique items in shop/gallery". why not "on your account". I really don't want 2 of each beanbag/plushie but since hoard doesn't count my collections, i have a second one in my gallery. beanbags/ plushies /vault/ armory/ tcg. treasure chests/ minions. shops/galleries (spreading those items in 4 other galleries like "minions" "potions" "holiday items" ) .

If having so many items in shops is bad for the site, it probably would be best to retire the achievements. Hoarders might keep hoarding but at least newer players won't be encouraged to start hoarding.

I hoard a bit myself (my hoard mostly stays in my vault though)- with events often having "go and fetch me this item" steps, and the fact that items keep being revamped and then inflating like crazy, if you don't hoard you lose out.

I like the thought of changing it from one gallery to all across your account.

The only counting in a shop/gallery is the one thing I don't like about this achievement. I don't like having to buy two of every plushie, beanbag, card, any other collection items, along with wardrobe and TCs if I don't want to take them out of there. I bet the hoarding in shops wouldn't be as great as it is now if it just counted everything. Yeah, this really wasn't a well thought out ach. from the get go. I figured when it was released that there was going to be problems with the hoards in shops.

Reasons as to why I hoard: things that are event only and won't be coming back. Which means a year or more later I finally need that item for a TC and what luck the item is now really expensive or unbuyable. Things for the RB if I can ever remember to check. Items I like.

omg, I thought maybe I could try and sort my shop, not going to happen. I have, what, 96 pages on the edit items page. I sorted the first page and, nope. I'd be here for ages doing only that. Give me an easy way to mass remove, slowly I don't want them all dumped at once into my vault, the items so I can put them in my vault and have the hoarding ach. count either all across your account or your vault.

It didn't matter if questing achievements were given much advance notice since there is only a static number that can be done per day (even accounting for GA/Normal)

However with an acheievwment like hoarding unique/same items, advanced notice can actually help anyone since the only limit to adding items to a gallery is how much money you have to buy them (and even then you could just borrow junk from friends if it came down to that.)

while i understand the argument that retiring the achievements won't stop hoarders from hoarding (as is the case with me), what retiring the achievements accomplishes is the prevention/slowing down of new hoarders from becoming established where they otherwise wouldn't have been. would i have started item hoarding if the achievements weren't there? probably not. but that's 7 years in the past, so i'm beyond redemption, as i'm sure a lot of you commenting here are.

at some point we just have to look at the already-established hoarders and write them off as a product of the time, and work to cultivate a site that no longer encourages that behavior among those who wouldn't be doing it anyway (which, achievements aside, absolutely includes not building site events to cater to those with a shit ton of items already on hand- looking at you, 2013 reading drive).

what i'm trying to say is maybe the problem as it already exists cannot be made better, but it can be kept from becoming worse. if nothing else, that's an avenue worth exploring.

Maybe you lack the patience and perseverance for the 40k and most people get sick o it quickly, seeing all the cool things collecting virtual dust.. For me, I have been working on this since the DAY IT CAME OUT and having it go from 45 to 40 was pretty cool. Seeing the thing retired because some people don't like it would be, quite frankly, stupid. There are a lot of views on this. Not one of them is the right answer/opinion. You don't like hoarding? Don't do it. It is that simple. To be asking for/suggesting an achievement to be retired simply because you don't like it is a slap in the face to those of us who have been working on it for years.

Total items in gallery: 37505/58460

As someone who has been actively working on the 40,000 items in my gallery since it came out (legacy achievement), I swear I will hunt down whoever retires the achievement before I get there.

Yes, I really want to get stickers, beanbags, plushies, etc. in to my collections. Yes, I want to feed my pet for Gourmand. Yes, I want my pet to have the higher INT possible. Yes, I want the wardrobe achievements. These goals are not affected by the hoarding achievement because I know I will get them in the long run, because I already OWN the items.

If you don't like it, don't do it, but don't spoil it for those of us who actually are doing it because it will be quite an honor to have that achievement.

Hoard 1,000 different items in a gallery!

38,822/40,000

they retires the original legacy hoard achievement before i was able to complete it

if they count everything on your account, there shouldn't be any issues for people.. no lag loading other people's gallleries, more things would be moving through the system because we wouldn't have to have 2 of everything..

please please please.. find a solution before just pulling the plug

Exactly ! I honestly wouldn't mind a work around, maybe having them in the vault (though it would be such a pain to move and categorize 37k+ items D:), if it meant keeping the achievement un-retired.

I never complain about the lag/errors I get on my WL & Gallery because I know they are huge to load, but that's on me, and I take those strains on my account because I chose to :/

but if they count everything on our account..

everything in wardrobe, nobody looks there everything in plushie/beanbag collections... wouldn't have to have 2.. more to go around everything in tcg .. more to go around books read.. more to go around vault .. nobody looks there other shop/galleries specific to the type of item.. moves things into smaller areas

imagine how much easier it would be

Yes indeed ... we'd probably already have the achievement! Lol

I just wish people understood the time and millions of sPs (and CSC) building the hoard that Keith challenged us to really has taken. I don't like to think of how many items I still need, but try to keep my goals small (300-500 items a month). It adds up! And in an unrelated (but related topic), I think I need to start emptying my wardrobe and putting everything in my hoard. I need to get the achievement sooner rather than later :/
