I like the unique item achievements! I'm a collector :D I can see why they're bad for the site, though.
I agree with everything you have said. I love the hoarding here. i do it, I have done it, and I just pick a point where I'm willing to go to w/ achievements like that, and be happy w/ that goal. I am 100% comfortable in life not having everryyything.
But oh god, if I could sort my gallery and not just have it look like a shop w/ tabs. DUDE. I paid SO MUCH on neopets just to get my gallery to look fucking perf. LOVED it.
I was going to try the Hoarding achievements but meh.I decided it would better to work on others, like the Gourmand and Plushie ones and the Masq one. So I really won't miss this achievement when it is gone.
Like a good neighbor, stay over there!

I think people should quit hoarding items and then dumping them in their shop. C'mon - 117 Funky Feet books? 57 bouncy balls? That particular shop hoarding drives prices down, since you are forced to lower your own price if you want to get in front of the Subetan who is trying to create a monopoly of any given item. Why can't people just place 2 or 3 of the same item in their shop? That would give everyone else a chance to sell stuff too.
I am 400 items away from 20k hoarder. I already got super shop and now sell most of my duplicates. I need to hurry up and buy the last bit needed to get the 20k tier.
KINDRED SPIRITSQuote from shoutbox "Heaven - like i said... what does he think people are going to do with the items after he retires the achievement??were still going to keep or items and were still going to keep collecting new items.. still going to strain the site"
Bathory is hungry for MORE MORE I SAY. - If you think you are unattractive just remember you look like your ancestors, and hey all of them got laid-
I store stuff I want to keep in a shop instead of a gallery because it's easier to sort through. I think the different ways that a shop can be sorted should be initialized for vault as well. That would encourage me to store stuff there instead of in a gallery.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
Maybe if we were able to use our 1 unique counters in our wardrobe as an item count towards hoarder in our gallery account, we wouldn't have any problems loading those galleries. Personally I don't have any problems loading my hoard, I have categories i keep non wearable items in.
I need 1700 more unique items (and i make sure i have only 1 of each item in my hoard) to finish and 16k of it is just wardrobe items.
or are you going to retire wardrobe hoard achievements too?? 16k items puts a lot of strain on the site.
I fear I'm a hoarder in real life. It's kind of hard to get around in my house. So I predictably tend to hoard stuff here. I't won't bother me too much to see the achievement retire, but it won't stop me hoarding junk. Unless they limit the size of the vault, shops and galleries..., not to mention wardrobe, the hoarding will continue unchecked.
Luckily the recycle beast asks for stuff I have often enough to keep me from drowning in pixels and I do frag frequently, so I'ts not as bad here as it is in real life. (Someday my book and magazine towers will collapse and crush me...., and I try not to think about the power tool piles). 😓
To clarify, hoarding into shops/galleries for the achievements is different on a technical level from other things. explained this on a Site Feedback thread ('s topic, I believe) a while ago but I think it's inaccessible because of the switch from the old forums to the new. :(
Some of the the strain and space issues are stemming directly from what the OP is talking about, not the release of new items, NPC shops, quests, personal item vaults, etc. [edit] I can notice the difference in loading a small user shop versus a large user shop when I'm questing for example. It would be great if staff explains things again here so we can have a better understanding of the problem. :)

-please give us until new year :):)
i keep most items in my vault that way they dont slow down the system because only i look there , no other user
i am at 39.300/ 40.000 items after 5 years of hard work i am almost there !!!
if you need to get rid of alot of items - be sure every pet(also every battle pet) needs to eat daily 10 foods or play with xxx toys to be happy ( in resort thats not needed so delete the resort or only for vacations ) you do that X ......players-x pets -x battlers - you will get rid of 100000 of items daily so thats also a way to get rid of items !!!!
and not only punish hoarders!!!
I know this wasn't explained clearly here, and no I don't have any idea what thread it was explained on.
But hoarding items in a shop/gallery is harder on the site mainly because it's viewed more often than your vault. If those items aren't split up into sections, I think that makes it even worse. It's not just that there are too many items on site (really? "Why are you creating new items?" -.-), it's that there are too many items in frequently used areas of the site. And stacks of items isn't that bad either, if I remember correctly from the last thread I saw this explained on. It's the number of different items.
Yeah subeta definitely doesn't handle hoarding very well to any degree |D
The training center/pet page are a nightmare for pet hoarders, my vault wants to murder my phone and/or itself, my smaller hoard shop (9,060/2,870 unique) is a nightmare to deal with... and the wishlists. Don't even get me started on those (and mine aren't even that intense)!
I agree that killing the achievements won't solve the problem. One, not everyone cares about achievements, and two.. I hoard because subeta punishes non-hoarding constantly and I can't count the amount of times I've canned something and a few months later it's turned into gold and I vow to never get rid of anything ever again x: And if my hoarding gallery was killed I'd end up vaulting 90% of that junk and then vaults would be the new galleries.
UNLESS. Unless subeta let us frag eventesque items to get rid of them c: Then I'm on board with getting rid of hoards (with all the new different rarities I'm sure staffers can cook up crystal-worth for these items, like Melody/ToTing/Pumpkins/Jaxon/Quentin's worthless junk/etc).
I'm pretty certain that staff mentioned instituting shop/gallery limits eventually. The vault and inventory revamp should be done in tandem with addressing the hoarding issues whenever this all goes down.

No, just no. If it's retired, then you're SOL. I was working on the Computer Geek quests, and they were suddenly retired without warning. It sucks but no, sorry.
You do realize those are probably from a lot of vending before the limit was put in place, right? Plus, that's not a hoard, as they are for sale.
Wardrobe is a bit different. It's only one of each item. And people actually use them (okay some of them are really ugly/old/low quality, but I find myself layering those for DI all the time). I do think they should stop adding tiers for wardrobe though. I saw a suggestion for it and just though " -___- really? no." But no to the wardrobe achievement. Maybe I want to have all the clothes because I'm fashionable? Geeze. :p
I don't think it will solve the issue completely, but I think it will help, esp because people with massive hoards of 20K different items are usually going for the achievement, not keeping items "just in case". But I do agree with making more items fraggable. With the recent additions to the Crystal Shop, I decided to mass-frag all the duplicates from my gallery, only to find out the items I had the most of (New Years junk/bags, Drills items, all that crap the Computer Geek used to give out, Item Hunter prizes) weren't even able to be used. It also apparently rejects retired items. My suggestion isn't to nix the galleries. It's to get rid of the achievement only. I still like galleries. Once this hoarding nightmare ends, I want to make REAL galleries, you know, with real collections. And I guess for all the random junk "just in case" ;)
Oh yeah I mean I still support retiring the achievements for hoarding regardless, because there are people who're hoarding just for the achievements; which is, sadly, logical on subeta-- there's no end to anything other than the stupid stat cap (hoard everything, all the wearables, but don't you dare have a strong pet!), which just feeds the fire. Because you know the day after you sell half your stuff, there will be 5 more tiers added and you'll be in a very bad place.
But I also think that's only half the battle, because there's really more reasons on subeta to hoard than not to hoard (like those stupid free beers) (and when feeding your pets became a thing) (and when pumpkins having a use became a thing) (and YAY NEW COMBOS) (and recycle beast in generally really) (and when quests were changed and wanted old things) (and and... so on). I do feel like letting us frag those otherwise worthless-sit-on-them-until-they're-useful items, on top of retiring those achievements, would really help cull the hoarding shops of subeta.
As for not rewarding hoarding...I don't know that there's really a way to get rid of hoarding that won't reward those who hoard. It's kind of a vicious cycle. If we're suddenly able to frag a shit ton of new items that we couldn't frag before, yeah the hoarders are going to be rewarded with assloads of crystals. On the plus side, there'll be a whole lot less junk on site and less reason to hoard those items in the future, because now they have an additional use.
Also I'm kind of thinking now that it might be nice to have some extra slots for the Recycle Beast, ones that don't change daily. Like add 5 more slots for items that change monthly or something, maybe make them additional game prize slots, but that way if you're unlucky and you miss a day, you can still get rid of your stockpile the following week. And obviously, if items are in the monthly recyclable section, they won't come up in the daily rotation so it would allow for more items to get in there, rather than having those spots taken up by the same items every other day.
I don't know if the RB one's really plausible, I honestly didn't stop to think it out before typing it :P
Subeta just loves screwing over the Battlers, I think. Luckily I'm still training little guy. pats Tier 2 pet or maybe he's moved on up to 3!? I'm not sure XD
I feel like hoarding items like that isn't too much of an issue though, since there are so few you really need to hold onto and as said, most of the stress on the site is related to how many unique items there are, not duplicates, in higher-traffic areas. So if you have, say 100 Battle Sporks and 50 Slots Books, it'd be less strain than 2 of 75 different items. But yes, if there were MORE uses for the random fodder than just piles up, it would really decrease the hoards.
