Darkmatter Dragarth and Montre Revamps

It looks like someone has been up to something. The darkmatter dragarth and montre both have new looks!

Really disappointed in the revamped Montre. My DM Montre is my oldest pet; I absolutely loved the way she looked, and now I really don't care much for her color.

I appreciate updates and revamps, but sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.

Let me begin by saying how much I appreciate you folks for updating things around the site as they age; I love that the site revisits art and touches things up to keep everything nice and renewed. And the art never ceases to amaze me! ❤️

I think the Dragarth looks great and the attitude on it's face is totally perfect.

I have to say, in the midst of all this chaotic drama, that I also feel the Montre was a bit of a downgrade. The wings look superb, but I think the face is a bit off.

But again, thank you to everyone who has ever contributed art and revamps to Subeta! ❤️

Eh.. I think this is another example of a good thing being changed for no real applicable reason. It's not that the new DM Montre looks bad, it's just I don't really.. understand why it needed an update.

Oh goodess Unknown you look...neat-O. I got to say, while I liked the old darkmatter montre a bit better, updated art is always good. This makes me feel very nostalgic too, I joined Subeta when the datkmatter montre was first announced seeing it get a revamp makes me feel old. xD

Huh, the montre looks so Chibi. I really liked Houndoom the way he was, I guess I'll have someone make him a more "Houndoomish" overlay now with the base of the old Montre. I love that you guys are always updating and improving! I just preferred the older look. It was more dark and intense. This just looks like a baby version of the last Montre...my Houndoom downgraded to a Houndour xD

Hmm. The art QUALITY has vastly improved. The artists obviously have skill. However, I kinda think the originals were better in terms of things like snout length (Dragarth) and sleekness/marking contrast (Montre). I hope what I'm saying makes sense. The quality in the new overlays is incredible and much appreciated; the artists just made aethetic choices I personally think may not have been the best. But then, I don't have either of these pets, so it doesn't really bother me lol.

And why is the dragarths nose so short? It kinda looks like it ran into a door. I mean, look at the glade Dragarth. Short muzzle? No.

Yes, it is! You just need to use an overlay (search around, I'm sure you'll find out how) or the "My Image Here" Firefox addon if you use Firefox.

To be completely honest, both of these look kinda like a downdate rather then an update. And I am not saying this because I'm mad they changed, I'm rather indifferent. I am saying it because the shading seems lacking, especially in the faces of both of them, they appear to be very flat. The character seems to be gone. The old ones may have been old, but they at least were eye catching. These new one just don't seem that interesting.

I'm almost thinking you should have made them completely new instead of sticking to the old poses. The art is always so much better when you make an entirely new one. If the art is as amazing as it could be, no one really seems to mind that the pose is different.

My first potion'd pet on Subeta was a darkmatter montre, and I thought they were the most gorgeous things ever. I'm sorry to say that I am really, really not a fan of the new one. =( Wish it could have kept some of its personality.

I LOVE the new dragarth. definitely a big improvement. the montre however falls short- the old verison just needed some anatomical corrections. (which weren't really covered in this one) I think the biggest thing that bugs me is the face, it looks to round and chubby, not intimidating at all.

These look really good, but I also think, as others have said, that they lost a little bit of... "Personality"? I don't really know what to call it, but there's something they lost that makes them seem much less intimidating, which I think is the point of the darkmatter pets. Regardless, though, the art is very pretty. c:

I like the new Dragarth. :) However, I did prefer the old Montre. I think that it's because the expression in the new one is somehow lacking.

Compared to the old ones these are definitely a great improvement! I wold just like to see a little bit more personality from the Montre instead of it just looking like it is prancing, but i would have said the same about the old one as well. So over all awesome!

Both are a great improvement! :) The head of the montre looks slightly too big, or maybe the muzzle (is that what it's called?) should have been the same angle as on the old one. Other than that, love them both! Great job, artists :)

- That's actually a lot better. The main problem is definitely the muzzle and the positioning of the head. When the head was changed, the awesome attitude of the old pet went poof.

- I was thinking along those lines as well. In my book, the Montre is supposed to be a mysterious and sort of omnious creature. The new one clearly isn't, or at least not nearly as much.

I can't say I'm a fan of the new Montre. I liked the old style for the body, but the wings are a definite and beautiful improvement. As for the Dragarth, I'm quite in love with the new style. As someone in the comments stated, he is very pompous looking.

As I own a DM dragarth my only comment is this, the update is fine, but I like the larger iris and sneer from the old one. I have always thought of DM as a "dark" colour and there is more of that sort of feel in the old version's face. The newer version sort of has a snub nose, therefore losing some of the fierceness.

The new Dragarth is quite an improvement, although its snout seems a little short. The old one's snout really wasn't that great though, so it's still a massive step up.

The Montre is generally good -- the shading is more up to Subeta's current standards, and the wings are absolutely gorgeous. There are a couple little things that bother me though. The right back leg -- the one 'further' from the viewer -- looks larger than the left back leg, which seems to defy my sense of depth perception/perspective/whatever you want to call it. Then there's the face -- I think it's the ears that are really bothering me, because if I hold a finger over them and just look at the rest of the face it looks right to me, but when I try to look at it as a whole, something seems off about it.

I don't like the new montre, it's too fluffy and cute for my taste. Also I loved the old one's expression, it looked... annoyed by the presence of you, a completely inferior living thing (I couldn't think of any other way to put it), and I loved its wings, probably because that's how I usually draw feathery wings.

I think something similar about the dragarth, the face is too cute, baby-like actually, but I wasn't as fond for it as I was for the montre, so I don't mind as much.

Neither of these appeal to me very much. Sad because Darkmatter is my second favorite pet color.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Suzaku

While I agree both needed a revamp, I'm not sold on the new designs. The Montre is far and away my favorite pet on Subeta, but the angle of the head on this one looks awkward on that neck, as does the positioning of the right rear leg and some of the feathers on the wings. As for the Dragarth, I don't like how the left front leg looks like the lower part is thicker than the upper, the legs on the right side look strange, and the horns look like they don't match.

Usually I don't criticize revamped pets, but the Dragarth and Montre are two of my favorites. I just don't like these new ones.

To be quite honest, I do prefer the old Montre over the new one. I've always loved the old face and the expression of the DM Montre, the new one just doesn't have that spark for me. It had an almost sly and cunning expression, and the body and limbs were more lithe and elegant. (Which is what I really do love about the old one).

The colouring however, is very amazing for the montre, and the wings are spectacular.

Not you. XD But there were a few posts when you read back that tell people who don't like the art to just shut it because its amazing. Thouse were the kind of comments i was targeting when i made that comment.

I don't mind people saying don't be a prick since its true there is no need.

Also, really don't think anyone has ever said "your opinion doesn't matter if you don't like it". Pretty sure most people have been saying "If you don't like it, you absolutely have that right, but don't be a completely disrespectful ass". Don't know how you'd get "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU DON'T MATTER" from that. (-beats a dead horse-)

But onto the actual pets! I'm pretty neutral to dragarths to begin with, but that was a much-needed revamp! I own a DM montre however. This revamp was also really needed! I don't see the old one around the site because it was kind of an eyesore to me, I had it replaced with my Elecman's overlay. This revamp was a little jarring for me at first, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me and I like it! That happened with the angelic keeto, too. It's definitely something I'll get used to.

I like the updates; they're more in keeping with current Subeta art.

Artists put a lot of work into things here whether we appreciate it or not. I try to remember that if I don't like something, can I do better than them? If not, then I ought to keep my opinions to myself. Art is very much in the eye of the beholder. You cannot please every single person in a site this large and involved.

I'm honestly not a fan of either, Montre's wings look good but the rest leaves something to be desired. My main opposition is with the Dragarth, the face looks very 'smooshed' in to me, when compared to the other colors. The old Dragarth's head was better but the new one's body is very good. Guess it's time to photoshop the two together for an Overlay...

Really disappointed with the new Montre.

The anatomy is really off, and the paws are really weird. They look very amateur for the artists here. The form is just too incorrect, especially for a pet as popular as the montre. The face just looks like so much less work went into the shading than in the old one. Not a fan of the chest fur on the new one either. The ears are also extremely off.

On another note, I think the wings are well done. They look well shaded and graceful.

Overall, I think this one needs to be reworked.

It's really disappointing to see how people are responding to this. Whether you like something or not, you're free to voice your opinion, but don't outright whinge about it. Be respectful, and be grateful that revamps are done at all. There's really no denying that both of these were outdated and that the new art is an improvement; it might not be absolutely perfect, but it is indeed better. I can understand people being attached to the originals or simply disliking the new ones, but it's nothing to be so upset over. The revamps aren't "worse" just because you don't like them; I don't know why people so often overreact to changes. Also, people are really exaggerating in claiming that the images have completely lost their original feel or what have you. They're the same poses, just edited. This is an example of a pet that really changed.

I didn't know about that feature for fire fox. That may be helpful. But regardless everyone has the right to their opinion whether you love it, think its okay, or hate it.

There's a few people who had legitimate critiques but a lot of people are basically saying in kinder words " shut up and ignore it. your opinion dousn't count unless you like it" Revamps have been changed before when enough people agreed on a flaw. And seems a lot of people agree the face is off on the montre. The comments are here so you can say what you like or dislike and staff actually listens. Thus people make comments here.

Great suggestion for FireFox users XD I use Chrome for Subeta, sadly, but it doesn't really matter to me cuz I love my pets' poses the way they are :3 ❤
