Darkmatter Dragarth and Montre Revamps

It looks like someone has been up to something. The darkmatter dragarth and montre both have new looks!

: thanks for mentioning that. I totally thought there was an add-on for it in firefox but I couldn't think of the name...but I was thinking of that same suggestion. I'm glad you said it!

If you're really so ridiculous that you cannot stand to look at this DM montre ever again because it ruins your life, you can get "My Image Here" for Firefox to replace the image everywhere. I use it because I love my pets' overlays so much. inb4 BUT I DON'T USE FIREFOX just trying to help cut down on future complaining...

Overlays only make it so OTHERS see your pet that way. How often do you Honestly stare at your pets page. No how often do you go into your pets section, or train a pet, or battle a pet, or check a pet into a resort. Or look at your user page ( a lot of people use the head shot feature) Or edit pet treasures, Look at the battle pet widget in your side bar. The REAL image is a lot more places in the owners face then an overlay. So If someone already has the pet doesn't like the new look why not voice it. Voicing opinions is the only way to hope for change anyway. ( therehas been instances were users were heard and recolors have been modified)

i know some took it to far with the name calling but a lot of people had very god criticisms like how the 'personality' of the pet changed or how the head looks large and even offered tips and pointers and some even drew or hand changed it to show examples.

I'm not a HUGE fan of the Montre, but I can appreciate the more subtle changes that went into the revamp, like the way the light of the aura reflects off the Montre. It gives it a more realistic feel. The Dragarth looks a little more sleek, which imo is good, but there's something in the overall attitude of the Dragarth that got lost in the process of revamping it. Still, though, both the Montre and the Dragarth have their good and not-so-good aspects of having been revamped.

The new ones both look just so squishy :/ I don't know how else to really put it, kind of chubby, all of the lines are rounded, none are really straight or sharp

I'm not really a fan of the new DM montre. It's body is great, and I love the wings, but the head just looks off to me. Also the old one looks so much more menacing, and I really liked that about it.

While artistically the new montre is gorgeous, when compared to the attitude of the old one I'm really glad I got my overlay is of the old style and not the new or I'd have to find a new color for princessa

Okay, so here is a quick sketch I did of a DM Montre... I know my style is rather different from Subeta's, but anatomy-wise, I would have liked to see something like this instead...

Well, at least now I can stop planning on getting a Darkmatter Potion for my montre (unless I do as I did with my paralix and store it in her treasure, for a different reason... though they have overlays anyway) Looking at the comparison pics in the reviews alowed me to figure out that it was the head that bugged me, at least. Why is it so large and squishy looking? Mostly the fact that it's head is so big... is really awkward to me.

Whilst the updates aside from that are effectively fine... I feel that without the angular look of the old ones something was lost... I don't know. The artist definitely did a good job, but something in the expression change (Daragarth from angry to annoyed, montre from smug superiority to... anxiety? unsureness?), and something in the loss of pointy/edgy/angularity/-ness just seems to detract from the overall . And the montre's head (maybe it's because I spent so long trying to get it right for mine's overlay. Coyote skulls EVERYWHERE @`-@) (and I uh guh Why are the eyes of that one enormous Dark Matter the same size?) Then, finally, I'll go to the fact that no matter how well done the wings of the both are (which is really quite well, very nice)... the montre's back wing is... bent. Towards the montre. And I'm just... have you ever tried to make that angle with your wrist? I can't- I can understand a wing, being a slightly different wrist setup, might be able to go slightly futher than 90%, but... not like that (certainly they can in one direction, at least, considering the need to actually be able to fold their wings when not in flight, but still... like that? I...)

Also, in realation to those earlier posts that mentioned it, I'd like to point out that a lack of comments if it were the serepenth that was updated rather than the montre would probably be due to shock over anything else. How long ago did half of it's forms get done, even indicates vast contrast between majority of Special Form serepenths and Basic Form ones?

I think the main thing for me is that I have always viewed the montre as being much more "angular" which is why some of the revamps catch me off guard! (since they look more squishy/smoothed over now). It's all a matter of preference though.

Yay revamps either way haha ❤️.

I actually like both of these updates (Dragarth especially).

Some constructive criticism: right now on the new Montre it looks almost as if the right ear (its right ear) is layered over the head. If you trimmed the ear a bit and moved it behind the head, the head would look smaller and sleeker and overall, I think, give it a more grown up look. I like how it have a long snout - I think the one on the old Montre looked pretty weird (at an odd angle). ;) The legs could have been a little longer and/or a little thinner to give the effect of feminine thinness that the old one had, and the paws could be thinner as well, although they do look more professionally drawn than the previous ones. I like the wings of the old Montre better. Well, to be more specific, I liked how they were /positioned/, and they were short so they didn't cover up have of the body like these new ones do. I love their detail and purple tips, though. ^^ Some other quick things I would change on the Montre are... to maybe move the eyebrow up a bit, do something different with the neck (I don't know what it is, but it looks a little weird to me), and maybe make the fur the lighter color that it was before so that it contrasts more with the wings. :)

The Dragarth is such an improvement, though! :D I'm happy about it, even though I don't like Dragarths in general. I would only change a few things: make the mouth into more of a frown so it matches the eyes and their expression more, change the angle of the first horn a bit so it's more in line with the head, and change how the front paws are, so that it actually looks like the Dragarth is putting some weight on them.

Overall, I really love the art and I'm pretty damn envious of your coloring skills. ;-; Also, I'm pretty sure artists look more for constructive criticism (naming your opinion and helping them improve their art) than just raw opinions. I'm also pretty sure that's what the site encourages. If you don't like it, you're free to express your opinion, but I don't think "FAIL." helps an artist improve much.

I love the new Montre. I know I'll get shot for this, but the old one looked emancipated. And the angle of the front arm was off, or at least the shading made it look that way. C: I'm definitely getting one.

The Montre's body and wings are great, but the face is very, very iffy for me. It looks really off. The Dragarth is also kind of 'meh' for me too.

Not really a fan of either, but I'm sure there are people who really do like them. I just find it sad that there were pets who needed the revamp way more than these two. But, whatever. What's done is done.

jbdwqilbewfipuwfipwbef So tired of the DM updates. First my beloved kumos, now my montre. My favorite pets are becoming my least favorite. Why ruin such beautiful pets, while pets such as the angelic feli remain extremely outdated? Way to sour my day. Want an option to retain old style instead of new style, or old artist instead of new artist. And everyone commenting about the snout: different angles (and of course I liked the previous angle more) Why aren't we allowed to vote on these redraws? Honestly, the color redraws are the only time I ever dislike Subeta.

Ok so here's my fixed version. I moved the ear slightly forward, the nose up, and got rid of the line on the chest fur.

A few quick fixes and it doesn't look so squishy. The body and wings are gorgeous though.

Love these revamps!

The new montre looks pretty much just as sleek as the old one to me, it... doesn't seem much stockier haha. It's very true to the old art but fixed some issues such as wings that didn't look like wings. The legs look way better now imo, and the shading is quite an improvement. The darkmatters look loads better and I love the darker color for the outline so much. Looks so much better. And the wings are GORGEOUS. Overall it looks much more like a montre to me! I find that the old one feels much more... 'generic majestic winged wolf lol' than this one; this is more of a Subeta pet in my mind I guess, haha!

I like the dragarth a lot too. The lineart is waaay better and the shading is lovely. I like the lighter gray parts not having as big of a contrast to the rest of the body, it just appeals to me more, and something about the way the darkmatter outline is done is just really appealing! (same with the montre, but it caught my eye more with the dragarth, haha.) The eyes are really pretty but I do sort of prefer the more scowly look of the old one -- this one's face seems to have less personality, I guess? That's really my only quibble though, haha.

Great work overall! :D

I adore the dragarth! Very well drawn and he totally encompasses the dark matter personality. The montre on the other hand looks to soft to me, I really don't like ow round and cartoony it looks :( He looked much more dark mattery in his previous pose. Purely the art style though he does look very much improved, he just needs to be a bit more.. sharp.

NEW DM MONTRE AGAINST STANDARD MONTRE:

If you look at the standard Montre pose, you can see that the new Darkmatter Montre's muzzle (or nose, but it's really a muzzle as it contains a jaw and teeth) is much more accurate to the actual Montre than the old DM Montre was. Actually, the head is much more accurate. More to the point, the new DM Montre is much more accurate to the actual Montre, now, than the old one was:

Old DM Montre against the Standard Montre:

The only thing that may be a little off are the ears, but that's the whole point of a Montre in a different pose - not everything will match up 100% because of the different poses :)

YAY UPDATE Love the new DM Montre!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by RenBug

I love the body of the Montre and the entire Dragarth. The Dragarth overall looks amazing. Very 'pompous' and arrogant all " Why are you looking at me' Like most dark matter pets are known for. and the I mean the WINGS on the montre are AMAZING!!!! Seriously stunning with the highlighting and the feathers. nd the paws and the dark matter are very much the snooty montre of old in a much more up to date art.

But the face of the montre looks off for it. Its expression tho still slightly 'arrogant' from the angle lost some of the spunkyness. Like the fact of how rounded everything ( including the skull). It just has a a very soft feel to it that the original didn't have. With it being so round it gives the look more of a chihuahua with the dome apple roundness.

Something about the eyes and muzzle together also maybe the fact the eyes angle and muzzles don't match or something. Or just the softness and roundess of the face and skull threw me off. Not sure

Figured people may way some reasons may I and possibly others are iffy on the face with some Constructive critisism. I'm hoping a small tweek can be made to this montre since i know it was a LOT of peoples favorite pets but if not hopefully it can help future redraws.
