Darkmatter Dragarth and Montre Revamps

Love the Dragarth :)

Missing the the lankiness, smaller head, and grumpy face the old Montre had.. Is this pet supposed to have a cone-shaped snout now? It just feels unnatural to me ._. The details on the Montre otherwise are great though

Awwww, I really did like the old Montre :(

This one looks a bit too childish, in my opinion...perhaps just the colouring or the stance? The older one looked tough and badass. Oh wellz still beautiful :)

I had seen another user or two use the same phrase and I thought it was getting a bit over-used as an excuse to say 'only say good things, never critique'. I honestly didn't know you had posted it as well and I'm sorry if it felt like I was targeting you quoting it. And it's totally cool. I feel a bit bad because when I'm trying to make myself clear or make a point I can tend to sound a little harsh or condescending, and I don't mean to. I just want people to know I'm serious and that I'm trying to make a serious point :3

I don't know what everyone's complaining about, personally, I think the Montre looks great! The dragarth really needed that revamp too, good to see some DM revamps-since there are still a couple of pets that need it c8

I like the new montre's wings and body but it's head looks odd. I liked the old more angular lines. The new lines are to squishy or maybe it' the shading or lack of it on the head. I also think the head is too big...

Ruined the montre in my opinion.. the eyes were my favorite part but now its just meh :/ the only thing that looks better is the darkmatter balls.

The dragarth is very nice, I like the pose and the flow of it, but the montre revamp is really disappointing to me. I specifically chose darkmatter for my montre because of the elegant and detailed look to it, and it was my favorite color out of all of my pets. But now it just looks all fluffy and cartoony. I would really like an overlay of the old look if anyone is willing to hook me up with one.

Compared to what I see of the old one, the face on the new one just looks flat and awkwardly shaded. To me, it's not uniform in comparison with the depth and detail of the body and other works. It might be the angle or something, but I agree with others about the cutesy comments. I guess I won't be getting a DM Montre after all! xD Something more sinister is in line for my little guys once I manage to afford a GA.

how about we use old overlay art if we don't like the new one and then say "thanks for remembering to update old pets staffers, that must have taken a lot of work" instead of bitching about art like we're all van eyck.

: I don't know why you're pinning me out, and I'm sorry if something I said apparently offended you, but I wasn't exactly talking to you. I was making an overarching statement based on what I had read going on, and later to another user in particular (whom I wasn't even trying to be mean or condescend to, merely trying to get her to see my point that I understood her anger at those who were negative, but there really weren't as many as she made it seem like).

Yes, critiques are good and yes, bashing and putting down is bad. But a lot of times we confuse the two. Bashing is 'omg its so ugly i cant stand it bawwwww'. Critique can be anything from "well, it's not my cup of tea, but I like x and miss y" to "Personally, I think it looks rather fat, but that's just because of x". Using the put down to segway into your honest opinion of why is still a critique...just on the harsher, perhaps a bit more raw and unrefined end.

I'm sorry if I've upset you with something I said, but we're both on the same side about this, just have a different view of what happened I believe. I think critiques are fabulous and that bashing is uncalled for, but I don't believe nearly as much bashing has taken place in this commentary section as perhaps you do. I don't really know. I'm not entirely sure why I'm being called out right now o.o;

I'm actually meh on this revamp. :c I think I preferred the original on the Montre, but I like the Dragarth. xD I like the details on the new Montre more, but something just seems a little....off. D:

Well, my DM montre has an overlay that removed her wings, so I am not dramatically affected by the change. The new wings are GORGEOUS, but the face is a bit off to me. It's still beautiful work, though!

Hmmm.

I prefered the old versions of both, they had more attitude. The new Montre doesn't look as elegant.

I like how the darko matter is affecting the shading though. That's a nice touch.

Not really a fan of Montres myself but it looks better to me than the old one did. Like the face of the old one just slightly more but over all its good. The Dragarth however I love. It looks cute yet slightly evil. I may repaint my Spectrum Dragarth to this.

I will say the art is great, but I much rather prefer the old versions. Although the art wasn't perfect, I really liked the Dragarth's old facial expression and features. The new version seems softer and more "cutesy". As for the Montre, I would have loved it had it been the original, and not a revamp. The wings and paws are gorgeously done, although there's something I don't like about the face and chest fur. But, I have to agree with , the older version was more elegant and beautiful and used to be one of my favorite pets so I'm incredibly bias. Yes, there were faults, but (don't kill me) I didn't see an overwhelming need for a revamp. Other than that, very well done. :) I hope I don't come off as rude or that I hate them, because I do like the revamps, I'm just not one for change!

The Montre looks way too young now. Very disappointed. And I really don't like the newer Montres in general. Too babyish in the face. =/ It doesn't even remotely look like a Montre in my eyes. I seriously did not recognize it as one when I logged on.

Am i the only one that is a little "reverse"?

I find the Montre freakin' beautiful! But i miss the feel of the Dragarth. : It looks too cute from my point of view.

But if anyone really takes time to notice for a second that some of these opinions are defiantly hurtful to the artists. All the of the artwork on subeta is amazing, regardless of the different "feels".

No real opinion on the montre, it looks good but I don't think it was as much needed as say...the (nearly) entire range of serpenths.

I have been impacted by an update finally! woohoo!

I dont really mind the change since it's not much of a change really, but I did like the old version a lot. It's fine really. Cleaner lines.

I should also add that constructive criticism is different than bashing, too. Posting HELPFUL suggestions to possibly better something (like your example of an English paper with corrections on it) is different than bashing. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just all the Negative Nellies on this site that just want to bash the hard work that an artist put into making something better than before. You like it? Great. You don't like it? Fine. You want to add some constructive feedback? Go ahead. Just lay off the bashing.

I said that in regards to flat out bashing the artist, if you would read the content of my posting properly. That user was flat out bashing the artist when they said "I want an overlay of the old art style of the DM Montre so that I can show new people what GOOD art is on this site." There are some parts of the new montre that are great ,but others I'm not so pleased with. It doesnt give of the aura af darkmatter to me really, too cartoony for this specific pet

I had a Darkmatter Dragarth for the longest time (he is Thane now and a Glacier Montre), and the quality of the art is very good, but I do miss the scowl the Dragarth used to have. It looked angry, while this one seems a bit too emotionless.

With recent updates, I have noticed that the artists are extremely careful about retaining old poses. This is much appreciated.

oh...am i the only one that actually really likes the Montre? ^^; i've always loved the old one, but certain things about it had bothered me so much. absolutely adore it now! those wings are just perfect

as for the Dragarth, i'm so so happy this was revamped!! ❤ gosh i just love that sassy little face, simply flawless :'D

I personlly do not like the new montre. The legs seem too chunky, and it doesn't have the "mysterious" darkmatter feel like the old one. And for the wing, I dunno. The anatomy seems off.

Looking back I realised my post sounded really whiny XD oops sorry! 6am here haha. I would merely like to add that whilst I dislike the montre because I think the redraw has essentially changed the personality of the pet, I will say the colour and shading is awesome :D the artist is clearly very talented, it just didn't quite go the direction I think would have suited the pet better. Also, the dragarth is just awesome ^_^

I appreciate that we have the awesome artistics dedicated to this sort of thing, but I'm sorry to say that I strongly dislike the new montre. It looks stocky, cartoony and young. People who have a better grasp of art than me have already said it better, but basically to me the new one looks heavy and more childish than the previous, which is just all wrong for a darkmatter pet. I'm really displeased with it - I can understand the dragarth, but I really don't think the montre needed an update in the first place. Oh well, nothing much can be done but sticking overlays over I guess.

Great on the Dragarth, not so good on the Montre...the anatomy on the Montre is just so different from the old one that it feels like a different pet. It has a bigger head and chubby legs...and it doesn't has that proud and cold look anymore.

The revamp is.. alright. They could have easily kept the old one, imo. But at least they kept the same pose. :D

Not a fan of the new Montre. The body is a bit stocky and seems almost twisted, in a way. Maybe it's the far wing, something seems off about it to me. I could probably get used to the body eventually, though. The head is my real problem. It just...it doesn't look like a Montre. It's nice art and pretty cute, and if I saw this as an overlay on someone's pet, I'd think it was great - but the Montre isn't supposed to be cute that way, especially in darkmatter. Altogether, it looks like a young, chibi-ish DM Montre, which is completely different from the old feeling it had.

There's no way I could ever change mine, so I suppose I'll just have to deal with it, but I'm just really disappointed. I miss the sleek elegant look of the old one. ;;

No opinion one way or the other from me, I don't particularly like DM pets and don't have either species :) Overlays are your friends people!

The wings for the new montre looks amazing, but I also prefer the old one because it looks more elegant and weightless, as though it's wings are holding some of it's weight up. Anyways, love the new shading and everything, the artwork is (as usual) great, but I'm probably going to use the old montre as an overlay since that's what I prefer for my pet.

The dragarth though... Brilliant revamp.

I was making a statement of how people tend to be all gushy and love-y over popular animals like canines, while less people tend to care about snakes and the like. ;) I don't have any montres + never really been a fan of them, and was generally just commenting on the nature of things here.

In all honesty, everybody should just be happy that we have caring artists that go to the work of making old pictures look shiny, prettier and newer for us all. Those who are saying that the new montre is ugly? Give some constructive crit so that the artists might take your words into mind and apply that to the next montre colors. To those who are already giving constructive crit, good for you guys. c:

The dark matter montre was always one of my favourite pets but I've just got to say, I don't like this revamp at ALL. :| The older one just looks so much more... elegant or something, whereas the new art looks like it's been crammed into a tiny space. Obviously it's good artwork, but it's just not good enough (for me, at least) compared to the old one. Sad D':
