When you're building your next outfit or look, do you start with a certain item, or set of items? Do you start with your favorite hair and makeup and find an outfit to match or vice versa, or something entirely different? What's your thought process? Just curious to see how different people go about designing HAs :)

I mostly like to start with a wearable that I only got recently and build on that. Often it happens that trough that I find another combination of items that works really good together but not with the original item, then i ditch the original items and continue with the new ones. sometimes this proces repeats up to 5 times before i have something I like.

I also like to start with other people's finds from Share your layering secrets II or looks I see on other HA's in the forums and work from there.

I usually start with one or maybe two items I want to use and make an outfit around them. Sometimes as I am making an outfit, I start to see a certain style I like for that day and wind up not using the original item I wanted to make an outfit around. I find that I rarely like the items I create when I try to force items together or force myself to stick with the original item I want to use when I see the outfit is taking a different direction.

Usually it's an item I either just got or saw. I tend to just fall into making the face first instead.

I always start with the Vanishing Cream and then the Ghouls Choice Liquid laytex. I have been a zombie for years and look like a stone statue without it. Sometimes I have a certain wearable I build around. Other times I dress my HA according to how I am feeling in real life.

For this HA I started with trying to do an HA of my alien species Yeaflon (who will be appearing in Chronicles of Gaia). The thing that made me want to do this was the skin. Everything else was built around that.

That's really how I do most of my HAs: there's an idea of what I want and then I try to make it.

I pick an item that catches my eye and then work the rest out from there n-n

Usually the face or head area and then work my way down. If there's a new item I wanna work with I'll start with that but most of the time, it's the face first.

I usually start with one item and try to build something around it! I like to pick unusual items (like weapons, monster/inhuman body parts, etc) that are a bit more challenging, though sometimes I end up getting rid f the starting item altogether when I make a nice HA that looks better without whatever weird thing I started with lol...

i too usually start with the newest acquired item i have in my wardrobe and just throw similar colours onto it. i prefer using more unconventional colours (thats another good starting point btw!), but because i usually buy black items and since theyre the easiest colour to work with, i end up making black HAs a lot - a trend im honestly trying to get out of.

For me it's basically the same as for a lot of people who posted here. I just choose an item I like, mostly with an interesting color scheme and work from there. It does happen quite a lot that I end up not using the item though. Some other times I start out with a specific item combination I discovered and really liked, mostly tights.

I tend to start with a face or wig item. I have a hard time designing a face or hair look after I've already designed an outfit. I just feel more limited that way. So when I start with the face or hair, I start building a personality which allows me to choose clothing items more easily. It's also due to me having way more chest and bottom pieces than head or face pieces. :P

I didn't used to do this, but nowadays I start with the face :) I'm obsessed with using face items now, layering them in creative ways and such. Nowadays every HA I make has at least 9 or 10 items on the face :o

Then I usually pick out either clothes or hair. Hair is super fun to pick, but also it seems to be the most versatile component for me so it can be fun to save it for last and see how swapping out different hairstyles changes the "personality" of the avatar.

Always eyes! I have been really into the Dried Roses eyes since they came out! I love layering them together.

I usually just try on an item and start working my around it. If I can't find anything that fits I just look around the users shops and see what would look good with it XD

Depending on my mood, but I typically do the face makeup first and go from there :P
