I didn’t know whether to post this in the feedback or suggestions forum, so feel free to move it to wherever you think is appropriate.
Are there any places on the site that you feel haven’t had as much focus for a while, that you would like to see get more focus? I was inspired to make this thread after all the Alchemy items we got last year, along with some this year, as well as all the new items we got from Fine Fabrics and Five Seven Five the year before. I think people might have requested more items from those places in the past, so I thought why not make a thread to ask about other places too. This doesn’t just have to be new items, this can also involve revamps, or re-releasing older items in different ways.
Here’s what I would like to see featured more:
Shops
I wanted to mention Defend and Conquer and Weapons Warehouse but I feel like the staff are limiting how many battle items they’re releasing these days since there’s loads already and people would probably complain if either shop had items that are just wearables and can’t actually be used in battle. And there’s also the fact that they do seem to be slowly working on revamping the existing items from there.
Other features
I'm not expecting this to happen all at once or over a short timespan since I know the staff are busy, I just wanted to bring up these things for them to consider. If there’s anything else you would like to see featured more, you can post about it here.
Pet releases.
0 in January, 0 in February, Nostalgic Urubu in March, Reborn Keeto revamp in April.
For a pet site, a release every two months is kinda neglect.
Achievements! I can't recall the exact figure as I saw it posted by another user, but last year there were so few added. There are loads more food, book, etc achievements that I would like to see added that increase the amount of items being consumed.
Wouldn't also mind seeing an achievement like Frag X amount of items and Recycles X amount of items, rather than encouraging point hoarding like the current RB achievement does.
I agree about the pet releases, especially for the holiday excusive pets. Are we really going 2 years in a row without any Steamwork or Graveyard pets, after only having one of each the previous year? I feel like this is because the pet artists have been too busy with real life, but what about the older pets that haven't had new artists assigned to them yet? Maybe Subeta should start asking for more artists to join them again (what happened to that time they asked and mentioned that the Aenoid needed a new artist, but still doesn't have one?) And we were told that pets in holiday exclusive colorus would be released outside of those holidays to make up for the lack of new pet colours, but that was over a year ago and the closest thing was probably the Nostalgic Urubu which was technically still during winter. Also, how many pets are drawn and ready to be released, but are being withheld until whenever they feel like releasing them?
As for achievements, it would be good to see more of those where the prize isn't a forum title, but a new skin instead. Or new borders, like the new Masquerade achievements, only other achievements would require something specific to be done rather than be awarded at random. And I guess some of the site features that I mentioned in my original post could have new achievements, or more tiers added to any existing achievements.
I think a big problem here is just the lack of staff - the few coders are busy with big site overhaul things, and the artists are either on hiatus due to life stuff, or busy with churning out holiday items/"required" items like monthly collections. So I don't really expect much to change anytime soon (still enjoying the site anyway, though!) It would be nice if each month we could prioritize one "extra" like a new wearable for an achievement prize one month, next month a new pet, next month a 2-3 new items in shops like the smithy or paw naturale (honestly, now that I think of it, very few new items are getting added to main shops at all these days??), etc. Just to shake things up a bit without overloading remaining staff TOO much.
Personally, one neglected area I'd like to see revamped is the smail system. As someone that does both cw and art commissions on subeta and prefers to keep all communication on site in case the need for arbitration arises, smail is a really vital function for me.
The pandemic and staff shortage have been an excuse for a year, and aside from Jessi coming back to work on CWs, I have a feeling that not much has been done to fix that - not even attempting to hire is worrisome.
Rah going on maternity leave? Staff knew that it would happen months ahead, and it showed. We had a massive slowdown in pet releases since she left, and not just for the species she draws.
A lot of people who used to minimod went inactive, or straight up quit, with no new blood being added - some minimods have 2, 3 forums. While I understand forums are slow, running the remaining volunteers thin might not be the best course of action .
Really, there isn't a part of the site that isn't neglected. Yes, the BC gets new opponents twice a month, but the battle shop haven't had new additions in years. Decades-old plots have not been added to the Antique Shop yet. No new Subetapedia entry in a year. And I could go on and on.
Staff, if you want us to keep interest in the site, you kinda have to show interest too. Hire. The skeleton staff situation was meant to be temporary, after all.
I think we did have a Subetapedia entry last year, for the Warador after they released the lifelike dolls of those. But if it's Rah who draws the lifelike dolls, then we probably won't have those for however long of her maternity leave she has left.
I didn't mean for there to be discourse in this thread, I just wanted to bring up features that we would like to see get more focus in the next year or two, and as I said earlier it doesn't just have to be new items (and these days most items are released one at a time anyway unless they're recolours or collection/quest shop/seasonal/holiday items).
To be fair, Subeta operates on a tight, tight budget. From what I've read on other sites, the art is the reason people keep returning to Subeta over other similar sites. So I think it'd be in Subeta's interests to spend part of their budget on another staff artist.
I wonder how worthwhile it would be for the site to cultivate some activities that are designed to take a long time to accomplish. Basically giving users projects to work on that have a definite "completion" or "end." Some of the things that mentioned in OP could be connected to long-term projects in some way to breathe new life into them.
ETA: Clarification
And as for the Trading Card Center, you don't even need new cards to add to their stock since, lore-wise, it's also supposed to be for all your tabletop gaming needs. Manwar MADE Mazes and Mahars, after all, but we don't even have a Mazes and Mahars mat. And I'd LOVE to see, like, some terrain/map sets or tabletop RPG setting books or other stuff in that vein in there. I mean, Manwar has a decent stock of tabletop items, don't get me wrong, but I still want more, it'd go great in another pet's treasure and just, I'm pretty much drooling thinking of the new stuff I could collect for him if there were new stock.
xe/they/she
Couldn't have worded it better. The excuse of "Subeta is not our main job" will not work forever. I think Subeta does not even have lore writers? And those could be the easiest out of the bunch to hire (as there are more writers than artists and coders).
They need to start hiring, or ask for volunteers amongst the fanbase. If they don't, Subeta will be a walking ghost town.
I would just be happy if they put some of this "revamp" energy into the trading cards that are just coloured rectangles that say "subeta" on them.
I don't mind when things are revamped to become wearable if they weren't before, but ... extensive "revamps" to wearables I liked and was using are annoying and one of the reasons I got into CWs, because they're not going to change even if other people don't like them as much as I still like them.
Meanwhile we have trading cards that just say "subeta" and people wonder why I don't bother trying to build my collection? I only buy or keep the ones that have actual pictures.

The shoutbox widget, I understand there are concerns about having it open, but the sidebar message says it's closed during holidays... hasn't it been closed for like over a year?
All of the projects that were supposed to come out of Esther and Emma's charity thing for their wedding. How long has it been and we haven't seen one of those fulfilled yet? Staff are really ambitious for the amount of them that we have and I get that they have a lot of ideas and plans but we don't see that on this side of the site, so a bunch of things just looks forgotten.
And boy does it look sad when we can see 2019 achievements on the first page of achievements.
Any time you post in a public part of the site you are going to get a discussion. This is intended.
Right now the capitalist/markup from wholesale of restocking items r1-99 is only one third of the items in Subeta. This share is shrinking. This is deliberate I think. A lot of stuff that is new is r175, also on purpose. Adding in items to all these shops doesn't seem to be where the site is headed.
It is still possible to make sP restocking at ATG. This is something I do.
I talked about B&B being outdated back in the 2010 meetup. If it hasn't happened in ten years, not too likely. Computers must indeed work on magic. I'm sure they use ice cream as fuel you should spoon it right in. :)
Lost Skeleton, not super necessary because stuff like what it carries comes out in a major way every Survival.
Not every item in Subeta needs to have a use.
Most users hate Crypts. I say this as one of the top ten in the HST. Adding new stuff in there won't make folks start to play, it didn't last time. Instead they did complain about how hard it is, and staff did make it easier. This wasn't enough, so now they are part of the luck at the bathhouse.
Dara's Darlings is already limited via the way that it distributes. This won't change if you add items. I'm pretty sure five new ones were added recently.
The nerfing of the Battle Shop was deliberate.
Folks complained bitterly about the baskets to be filled at the Farmer's Market. This is unpopular.
I forgot to mention the Trash Can, I think there's only 2 items you can get from there so after a while it's not worth checking. An idea I came up with is using it to re-release the trash items from Peka-Boo, but those might be cheap enough for people to buy if they ever wanted them, and they don't really have much use anyway.
To be fair, I wasn't there when the Farmer's Market feature was active, so I didn't know people didn't like it.
yea some of us would be happy to volunteer. i can do a little coding and would be willing to help out if they need it.
I would like to see more work done for the minion zoos. I would like to be able to round up my minions into groups and have different types of enclosures for different groups (the ability to name the group would give this effect). I would like rewards for fights and levelling up, nothing much, just some cute items/small amount of SP. I would like achievements, winning x amount of fights, levelling up x times, have x minions on x level, have x minions, have x groups and achievements like the collections/wearables/reading ones where you need specific minions. Also, not all minions have stats, can stats be added to all or is there a lore reason that some of them don't have this?
Edit: Please could we also have baking and alchemy achievements? I can see these have already been suggested in the achievement forum but neither have been added. This could really boost the amount of new achievements, be on x level, make x items (can be split further for the alchemy one as there are different types of items), burn x items, make specific item.
