So I’m guessing most releasers and artists would agree with me, because currently the guidelines a are a shitshow. We’re not allowed to file tickets to ask about concepts and so we could be stuck paying 40+$ to then only find out that the concept isn’t even fucking allowed. What would you want the commissioner to do? Swallow that actual real life monetary loss or ask the artist to reimburse even after all their hard work?

So Problem number one: asking in a ticket if a cw concept is viable is NOT pre-approval!! No one is asking about the art quality or the like, but simply if the idea would be allowed.

Why are there certain items on site that are conceptually not being allowed right now?

Case in point:

and But ’s head replacement noodle head (amazing, I know) was denied on grounds of “head replacement CWs aren’t allowed currently” but excuse me theyre on site already. Either they should be allowed or the other two should be removed. I’m sorry, but I see absolutely no reason why this kind of favoritism should be allowed. Why was the previous one allowed? Was it because we had a different person doing approvals? In that case, that should be fucking solved immediately and either we need better rules, or the approvals team and staff needs to sit down and clear up what should and should not be allowed and we should be informed.

Another example: exists and yet ’s was initially denied for having the name “Problematic Polaroid”, so excuse me? This isn’t just me complaining, but these things should be cleared up and equaled across the board. If Polaroid isn’t allowed in the name, then the older item should be changed too. Simple as that.

Second Problem: good god the pricing categories, for the love of all that is holy make them simpler and up to date!!! Why can’t we price the item according to size? For any kind of horns, even if they’re the most tiniest things possible, it’s an immediate 2500 submission cost. Plus, I recently found out that friends submit their horns in an entirely different category so ???? (Fun question, where would YOU submit horns? I’ve always submitted mine under base edits for some fucking reason) And then there’s the simple confusion about what an item counts as; I squinted real hard when submitting bc I wasn’t sure what to submit it as and still got clocked for wrong category.

The thing is that I don’t mind having to resubmit things: however with the queue rate as it is now, it’s absolutely ridiculous to have to resubmit for things that could have been avoided entirely if the information was just there.

I don’t even know if this is the correct place to post, but this is the hill I die on I guess?? Especially the head replacement cws - make it equal, so either all allowed or remove the ones that are on site. Maybe it was a “different time” but the rest of see that now and think “oh snap I want something like that too”. Not gonna lie, I was about to drop about 35$+ on a head replacement commission, and thankfully got news of the noodle head denial.

This is prob all over the place bc I just woke up and I’m filled with Righteous Fury(tm), but like most of us, I’ve invested a lot of time, effort and money into cws because it’s fun, but there should be enough respect for my fellow artists and commissioners to at least keep the rules up to date and equal for everyone.

Heavily agree that the rules are not clear on what is and isn't allowed. If there is a written rule anywhere about head replacements (that aren't actual entire faces - the noodles and tv are objects), the only rule i see on the CW submission page is in regard to physical features, like eyes, nose, mouth. If the head replacement thing is an actual rule, we need it in writing somewhere Official and Easy to find.

(also agree on the pricing categories being an unfair mess, but the unclear rules really get on my nerves... and it's a waste of everyone's time, artists, releasers and staff.)

the queue standards have been excruciatingly back and forth for a while now. some items seem to be scrutinized while others are passed despite having thin lines, or the fact that submissions get through that could logically be separated into two or more items etc (there's a lot more etc). to say its extraordinarily frustrating is beyond an understatement. the cw market has suffered because some artists are just over the shit, and people refuse to upload items.

my suggestions are this:

  1. as said, clarify the rules. I fully support changing the fact that tickets related to cws designs are currently viewed as pre approvals if giving a yes or a no. it's unnecessary and a waste of the staff, users, and artists' time to go through conceptualizing, commissioning, creating, and then submitting an item that was doomed to fail from the start simply because the rules are too vague (lookin at u head items). don't fear giving legitimate information. users write to you because they are concerned, and are attempting to avoid causing both you, and themselves, trouble.

  2. get rid of the heartache and change the categories yourselves. if an item is due to be denied specifically because of the wrong category being submitted, whether or not due to unclarified rules or a simple mistake, why waste time and space on the queue unnecessarily? if the category itself results in a bigger or smaller csc charge, a function should be looked into that will allow the option to refund or charge the submitter further if necessary. If that's too complicated, perhaps compartmentalize: one queue for resubmitters with only category, name or description changes, and one queue where changes in art are involved. also, yes, fix your categories.

thank u.

I paid over $30 to find out that even if you follow all the tribute rules, Homestuck tributes aren't allowed because of something Andrew Hussie once said that I don't think means what the staff interprets it to mean. (Having read the MSPA/HS position on derivative works, it seems to indicate that they don't want people producing merch of their characters and storylines, not that they care if people make orange horns that could conceivably be used for a variety of purposes.)

That, like the head replacements thing, would've taken approximately 2 seconds to add to the list of "things we don't allow (except when we totally do, or when we do them ourselves)".

The item was not even a Homestuck or Hiveswap canon character tribute; I just addressed the issue of Homestuck in my submission because it was a set of orange horns, and I did intend to use it in troll OC cosplays. The response I got made me wonder if I had made a mistake and not mentioning Homestuck in my submission would've led to the item being approved!

I don't agree with removing the 2 tv CW's on site, because I think it would be really hurtful for the releaser and/or artist, but I do think recolours of those items shouldn't be allowed. I have had a denial because a CW I was planning to release "could be used to replace closed eyes" (even when not, it couldn't, LOL), but I see CW's that replace closed eyes having tons of recolours. I mean, yeah, rules have changed and maybe those items aren't allowed anymore, or shouldn't have been approved on the first place, but having one artist/releaser hog the market and sell those CW's for tons of CSC (or trade them for really hard to get items) just because they had their way and got those approved it's unfair AF. <3

Also, yes, please... we NEED updated rules and prices and be allowed to ask stuff about our CW's without consider it "pre approval".

oh I agree that removing them would probably be the nuclear option but at the same time, it stands as an example of something that has never actually been added to the rules and now would stand as an example of something that isn’t allowed in the future? Wouldn’t that create the same sort of monopoly? (Also are talking about the brows? I remember something that)

I remember, and that’s also ridiculous. What if I made an orange toned version of ? It’s a COLOR and a Halloween color usually at that. Plus, we even have orange colored sp horns so hmmmmm

I think releasers/artists shouldn't be punished because of Subeta's staff fault. They could refund the commisioner money, tho, but we know that's not gonna happen. I think banning recolours of those controversial items could be the only fair partial solution.

Oh, yes, my eyebrows, which I provided so many examples of how they cannot be used to replace closed eyes to be answered with a "LOL, I don't care, FUCK YOU". <3

Oh I remember that item! They made you change it so much I ended up dropping my slot! I didn't want to use it for closed eyes. I wanted to use it for Grunkle Stan's thunderbrows and eyebags, and after the edits you had to make, it looked pretty much like almost every other set of eyebrows on site. It was supposed to be a very masculine set and it ended up unisex, right? I hated dropping but I really appreciated that you let me. :( :( :(

if you recolour that in orange I'll love you 5ever. also thanks for the support!

As a slotter it's also very annoying to get your csc back for something you paid for because it got denied and then have the item finally go through weeks or months later when you are broke. It'd be nice if things only got denied when there was actually something wrong with them and not a technical issue like 'wrong category'.

I'm also rather displeased by the recent rule change requiring wearable animals have some form of "companion/buddy/friend" in the name because someone got the idea that users might think they were buying a minion, even though minion CWs are not allowed. (Has anyone ever thought that? for 700 CSC? is anyone really that dumb?) Not all wearable animals are especially friendly.

Do not worry, dear. It was actually not your fault. In fact, I lost a few slotters for that reason and I know any of them wanted to use the brows as closed eyes because I tested them myself with lot of mouths and noses and it looked weird everytime. Like, REALLY weird.

Gonna butt in here. The rules seriously need to be updated. The inconsistencies with pricing and categories are really frustrating to deal with.

My was initially denied for being placed under sweaters when, according to staff, it should have been under "all base edits." Subeta makes the same under both categories. Why should I have to wait ANOTHER WEEK to see it on site? If staff can mess around with cw item names and descriptions (the bubblegum vs bubble gum situation a few years ago), then they can change the damn categories themselves.

These two also had problems with categories. Previous recolors of these were accepted under cheaper categories and were later denied for category reasons. We were forced to tell our slotters the price increased because of this. People already complain enough about the current cw prices. If it was submitted in the wrong categories then it should have been denied initially.

If staff thinks the ramen bowl cw shouldn't be allowed, why did they allow the two TV cws to be on-site? Same with certain makeups that look like closed eyes. Make up your mind, you can't accept one item and deny another that's conceptually the same.

This constant inconsistency with approval requirements where some items are denied for certain things yet others are approved with those same things is just getting to be too much.

And the sneaky category changes are just so shady. Masks were large accessories for so long under 4K csc but suddenly were change to 5k category once more people started submitting them... it really leaves a shitty impression that once something is popular the price gets raised

So, like, a while back, maybe a couple years, I was also denied for the unwritten rule that head replacements are not allowed. People I showed the item to thought it was clearly a mask, I thought it was clearly a mask.

The reviewer could not tell if this was intended to be a mask or a 'real' hikei head, and implied that I can't draw. Reviewer probably also did not look at the reference provided of the disturbing horse head masks. An unusable suggestion to 'fix' the item was made because the reviewer did not notice or care that, like the rubber horse mask, none of the features line up with the face below. I came away with the impression that I was to never re-submit this.

I drew this myself, so it's not like I lost money commissioning it, but please enjoy my bottomless shaker of salt and this rediculous horse head mask.

Edit- hey guys, it was implied, not directly said. It could have been a poor choice of words (we've all made those) or my misunderstanding (we've all done that). Or heck, maybe it's actually not that great of a drawing (most likely). Please do not latch on to that to dogpile.

I am shocked that staff told you that you can’t draw, because it’s clear you can, but at the same time I’ve had denials where the artist was flat out insulted as well so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised

No surprises here, denials were so brutal that I almost stopped doing CW's. My Subeta and IRL friends spent 4 months trying to convince me that I didn't suck at drawing. <3

Considering the TV heads were drawn / submitted by a staff member I think that's all the answer we need on their approval TBH.

CWs in general need a huge look at by staff, but all the recent boards about them just die. The community, as amazing as it is, cannot fix the problems when 90% of them are things staff need to address. I've spoken to and witnessed so many people jumping ship from CWs, I'm surprised with how much of a money sink it is, that staff is no where to be found on the situation. Of course there could be things going on behind the scenes but can we, the community see that or feel reassured by the unknown? nope

It's aggravating, but the unwritten rule thing is the problem. The minute it would take to add that to the CW rules would save the time, money, and effort people have spent on CWs that cover the head only to have completely unusable items.

And at least that CI is still giggle-worthy.

(Also, don't take this to make light of a bad experience getting unexpectedly or unwarranted harsh criticism in a CW rejection. It sucks. I guess because I've just gotten worse from better people, wasting my time on something that would never have been accepted gets to me more.)

Someone please take a look at this and many other CW-related threads in both the Suggestion forum and CW creation forum. It's frustrating to feel that our voices are being ignored.

I am also of the opinion that what is and isn't allowed as CWs should be made official and clear. I too have had items denied although CWs with similar concept already exist. I also have CW denied for reasons some other CWs accepted around the same time were accepted and I was very salty about it. Let's say it takes a couple of hours to add to the current rules which types of items wouldn't be allowed and it would save CW creators literally days of waiting and potentially money spent on commissioning their items too.

More transparency would be so much appreciated!

I'm just going to echo everyone else:

The rules need to be updated and made way more clear.

The pricing categories need to be readjusted and size should be a factor. They also need to just be a "select this category" situation because having a denial for base edit vs sweater in category choice when they're the same price is very useless.

Staff needs to start addressing these things because more people keep leaving the market (as customers, releasers, and artists). If CWs are supposedly a big factor in the site being sustainable as far as costs go...then staff needs to help encourage people to stay.

This isn't or shouldn't all be on either. Obviously the duties behind the scenes are making the queue run slower because she's alone on the queue + whatever other things staff has her doing - they need to add a senior staff member to help address users and work on making the system work better for everyone.

I agree with this. The rules should be more clear. CW have been an installment for long enough for some of these issues to have been worked out.

Prices for [sub]tiny[/sub] items like horns, or eye sparkles, or cuts and bruises should be reduced and not based solely on the layer they are being submitted under. I've passed on a number of items because paying seven dollars for something that tiny is out of my budget.

Quote
The item name and artwork must accurately portray the image worn on the avatar. For example, you may not have a cupcake item with a wig for the overlay. You may, however, have an overlay that is a cupcake held in the avatar&;s hand.
This rule in particular seems to be overlooked or loosely enforced as practically every wig CI is a tea cup or an ice cream or some kinda food or vessel related deal. Makes my brain hurt because if I make a cupcake CI with a wig wearable item but add "hairy cupcake wig" as the name that makes it OK? IDK maybe I'm just stupid.
