Firefighters were forced to run from an "explosion of fire" in Sydney's south-west
Hi I know a lot of people will have seen the devastation that has befallen my beautiful country, the tragic loss of homes, land, livestock, and wildlife has been the worst in our history and it hasn't held just to our main land but Kangaroo Island as well whose farmers may never fully recover from this tragedy, and what's worse some fires were deliberately lit by some sick individuals that have now devastated a nation.

I am socially inept and don't have Facebook or any social media platforms but I felt I needed to reach out to people in some way and share what is occurring, and ways that you can if you are able to help those that have lost everything and to help with the rescue and rehabilitation of what wildlife we can. Sadly it is reported that over an estimated 500 million animals have perished and a third of NSW’s koala population has been wiped out, 1500 homes are lost and over 200 fires still burn across New South Wales and Victoria, with the human loss of life at 23, with six people still missing across the 2 states. [1]

Kangaroo Island: About 170,000 hectares, or a third of the island, has burned so far, 2 people are dead, and there are concerns for endangered wildlife recovery, especially for the endangered glossy black cockatoo which became extinct on the main land and now exclusively lives on the island. [2]

THE STATISTICS AT THE MOMENT[3] NSW/ACT 16 people dead, one missing More than 140 bushfires burning 3.6 million hectares burned, greater than the size of Belgium 1365 homes confirmed destroyed

VICTORIA Two people dead, 28 missing About 50 bushfires burning More than 780,000 hectares burned 68 structures confirmed destroyed but this number is expected to rise significantly

SOUTH AUSTRALIA One person dead About 17 bushfires burning, four of significance More than 100,000 hectares burned 88 homes confirmed destroyed

QUEENSLAND About 33 bushfires burning 250,000 hectares burned 45 homes confirmed destroyed

WESTERN AUSTRALIA More than 35 bushfires burning, two of significance 1.5 million hectares burned One home confirmed destroyed

TASMANIA More than 23 bushfires burning, two of significance 8000 hectares burned Two homes confirmed destroyed

NORTHERN TERRITORY Five bushfires burning Five homes confirmed destroyed

With this information I hope you can see it in your hearts to help and donate what ever you can to the following charities, always ensure charities are legitimate (these ones are but should you use other sources check) as the low life's come out of the wood work when tragedy unfolds as in one case where they'd set up a Go Fund Me for a fallen firefighter pretending to be a family member, truly disgusting, so be aware. We will stand strong my friend! We had some rain (maybe around 30 minutes to an hour) last night and it's been drizzling/misting on and off today, with much cooler temps. While this isn't enough to stop the fires, I like to think it's helping our firefighters contain them.

What angers me is, some of these fires have been lit on purpose...the fact that they've caught some young people (I think the most recent age was around 12) in the act, and all they've gotten is a slap on the wrist angers me. In my opinion, they should be put in jail, and also made to clean up the mess!

The loss of our wildlife saddens me...I was so worried to hear about Mogo Zoo. I'm just glad they managed to save it, and keep the animals safe.

Can I ask, where abouts are you? I'm in the Illawarra...

I've seen a few videos of the destruction, sott . net ran an article and included several videos. I just hope it rains there soon. So heart-breaking to see. Someone posted the pic (on FB) of the little kangaroo trying to get past a barbed wire fence-so terrible and so sad. The man who posted that saves animals all over the world. He does amazing work and said he was probably going to fly down to Aussie land soon to see what he could do to physically and emotionally help people and animals at risk.

Hi Wolfmyth, I'm lucky and in SA, right at the foothills in Adelaide so smoke hit but not fire, my brother is in more dangerous territory and has been told to be ready to go twice now.

I so agree with you and the punishment, what astounded me is the KI fires were started by a 75 year old man! I can't bare to think about the animals as it breaks my heart and it is that feeling of heart ache and helplessness that made me decide to create this page. I was glad to see that the premier of KI has addressed not only the rebuilding of material things but has acknowledged the fact that mental health issues are going to be something that needs to be addressed as farmers have to shoot thousands of sheep and cattle that weren't outright killed in the fires, I hope others will follow this lead. As for the slight rain, firefighters have said that it is a potential for disaster, so it's a double edge sword.

How safe are you, as fires in your area were classified as out of control only a day or so ago, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family/friends, stay safe.

We've had so much smoke and ash where we are! The beaches are covered with it! So it the ground, our deck, my car...everything. The rain did seem to clear up some of the smoke in the air..and yes, while it is a potential for disaster (I shudder to think about lightning strikes), it has seemed to do some good here. I haven't heard any sirens today, and we've been hearing them far too often lately, all heading further south.

Where we are, we're pretty safe. There's not too much bush land around us, as its mostly farm land. What we have would burn out fairly quick...and the only real thing we'd have to worry about would be a flying ember, and the possibility of it jumping the highway. There is some scrub behind us, but council actually cleared a lot of it the other day. We'd (along with our neighbours) also be ready with hoses if anything happened but as I said...it's not likely to happen.

In fact, looking at the Guardian NSW updating article, the Illawarra isn't even listed as being affected, however the Shoalhaven is..and it's those fires we have to worry about, I think the one closest to us, is about 40ks away.

I have been hearing about this fires for way too long and can't believe its still going. I am sure it is devastating for your people and the animals. It breaks my heart someone could do this deliberately without seeing the consequences. I'll keep you all in my prayers and hope the fires are finally extinguished and can start recovering if it can be recovered since I know many things and lives won't be recovered. I'll check the links and help with what I can. xx

Oh my goodness 😭, we have not heard this on the news in the US. I realize at 12 years old you do not have the mental capacity to understand the ramifications of your actions, unfortunately, you can't argue that for a 75 year old. I agree with you, they definitely should be held responsible ... in jail and made to clean up this mess. 😡

Stay strong! You all are in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏

Great idea to share these links, thank you ❤ as another Aussie in the line of fire it's great to see this being such a visible global talking point rn. I just wish the government would get off their asses and actually DO something about climate change instead of just arguing and bickering with each other, meanwhile the country suffers. tries ineffectually to shove rage back in its box (i'm in NE Vic and evacuated Friday night. We're back at home again for now, but who knows what the end of the week will bring with more hot dry conditions. We are ready to go again if needs be but wow I can't wait until I can get a proper night sleep)

I've been reading about the wildfires since the folks in Mallacoota had to flee to the docks to escape the fire. It pains the soul to see loss on that level. I hurt for the innocent lives stuck in the path of humanity's rampant abuse of the single habitable planet within a lifetime's travel. Every contributor should be punished. Every single one. A 12 year old knows the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, and regardless of whether or not they have the foresight or imagination to see the future of their crime, what they did is a crime and absolutely needs to be punished. Maybe if we stop allowing 12 years olds to get away with crap because they are young we wouldn't have 75 year olds doing the same crap.

I'm sorry. it doesn't help at all, but gods I'm so tired of the effing excusing of crimes based on some perceived criteria.

Also, vote. There are very few places where the people have any power anymore, exercise it where you have it.

Voting is compulsory here once we turn 18, lately it just never feels like it gets us anywhere. And I know what you mean, this is our one and only planet, we (humanity) should be taking better care of it...we the little people do our best where we can, but our "leaders" only seem like they're interested in their own short term goals sigh there is a lot of frustration with how our Prime Minister has handled this whole crisis...like going on holiday to Hawaii while these fires burned... But anyway, ugh, political talk is yucky and it makes me mad so I'll go get some sleep instead lol

Here's something just to make you both feel even 'better' (yes sarcasm) about those in power, but first, stay safe Chookie you too are in my thoughts.

They've Known For Over 12 Years These Fires Could Occur!

On another down note, it is reported that the fires along the east coast will most likely burn for another 3 months until the cooler (if we actually get seasonal change as it's been pretty out of whack the last few years) Autumn weather comes in.

Don't you wish we could just take Australia, and push it somewhere else? Like...towards to Arctic...or the Nothern Hemisphere? That way, it can get cooler quicker...

It's rather muggy here in the Illawarra today, and now I'm not sure if that's a good thing...
