On behalf of Aussies thank you and Teamspeak that is awesome of you (and to E1 that's doing what they can)

Someone tweeted (saw it on the SBS news feed) The icecaps are melting while Australia burns, while Bette Midler tweeted for Morrison to "Lead, you f*&kwit" in regards to his holiday in Hawaii, gotta love that woman!

I wish that were possible :c. It's completely devastating with how long all these fires have been going on! I hope more coverage about this can at least bring some sort of awareness..

Good on her!

I know right? Maybe if we all push really hard? I shudder to think that the fires are just meant to keep on going on...someone lasso some storms and bring them over here (ones with no lightning..)

Yes please for rain.. It feels like some parts of Australia haven't had a good pour of rain for ages! (Like the ones which last for days- not just a few hours).

sigh yep, that's just great. isn't that typical though? evidence based science and predictions have been ignored for years. i'm just hoping this disaster will finally knock some sense into people into getting some Shit Done. like, wake up people?!

lol yeah lets just refrigerate to whole of Aus XD i would not complain! i think i just want a universal remote to pause the fires until we have just the right amount of rain to help put them out without also the potential of causing more trouble. but who knows when that will get here...

also, can we just import Bette Midler and make her PM lol

To burn until the start of Autumn. Gods..I don't have words. I really wish I could say I was at all surprised. I'm sure at this point that they all just hope to not be in the hot seat when the fan blades start spraying the poop. I'm sorry for rousing the politics and you're totally right; it's the citizen who sacrifices for the health of the planet while corporations ravage our world and the governments line their pockets with blood money. Hoping so hard for rain all over your country.

It's all so heart breaking and frightening and the news outlets here are not talking about it enough, usually just in passing. Then again our news talks about most things especially things going on outside of the states little or not at all. I have to watch news from other countries to find out what's going on.

I love Bette. One of the highlights of my twitter feed.

I thought it was a good idea! Let's take Australia and move it to Canada...the Antarctic might be too cold...finding a universal remote would work too...let's just pause the fires, then find a storm that's building overseas and bring it here. The Planeteers would be able t help...heck...even Captain Planet himself!

But...just..ugh! We had some heavy rain here last night...but this morning there's a light smoke in the air. I think there's still a fire burning further south...

Again I ask all of you that use other social media platforms to share the information provided here like the wonderful has, and, yet AGAIN I thank everyone that is helping, sharing or just verbally supporting those going through this heart wrenching time.

Thank you for restoring my faith in the human race!

To stay updated on any news posts please Subscribe to Thread until Subeta fixes the groups problem although the fires may be out by then LoL

Thank you for the update I saw a small blurb last night that the fire in Mallacoota is under control. I know there's a heap of lies and point-whoring going around so I'm not 100% sure but if it's true it's a little light in this darkness. I hope the Morrison government considers all the volunteer firefighters as eligible for the tax free payments, whether or not he thinks they wanted to be there.

Statellite photo shows wildfires east of Orbost, Victoria. The Bureau of Meteorology says 2019 was the warmest and driest year on record for Australia. Source: MAXAR TECHNOLOGIES

Well folks it's another glorious 40oC (104oF) day here in Adelaide and Australia has officially recorded its warmest, driest year on record: BoM (Bureau of Meteorology), I think those of us that live here would undoubtedly already know that and sit here scratching our collective heads wondering why our 'beloved' pollies still haven't noticed... oh yea climate change is a big load of bullshit fairy tales that you tell children so they eat their greens right? WRONG! I wonder if it had been their homes and families destroyed how quickly they would refuse that pay rise and seriously sit and openly discuss steps and actually TAKE steps to try and eradicate further destruction of our only home?! I strongly suggest reading the information provided by BoM (above) for further informed data as I don't wish to mislead and honestly can't quote everything of such importance here, there's just not enough space.

[box=#eeffee]Before I start my rant IF YOU LIVE IN VICTORIA please be aware that the first ever State of Disaster has been issued and covers Victoria's East Gippsland, the Alpine Region and the state's north-east ahead of dangerous fire conditions across the coming 48 hours. Please go to SBS World News for full and accurate information.[/box]

Now I'd like to begin my 2 cents worth on the vicious cycle that comes from these immense fires that strikes the need for governments not only here but the world over to act! With 306 million tons of carbon dioxide (since Aug. 1) being pushed into the atmosphere [1] and over 60,000 square kilometres or 10 million hectares, “an area the size of South Korea”, according to Reuters [2] the loss of such a vast area of vegetation means the loss of natural carbon elimination, this doubles with the problem that the dense amount of smoke is not letting heat escape into the atmosphere compounding the fire situation. There is also bio-security fears with the death of hundreds of thousands of farm animals killed in bushfires to which the Australian Defence Force has been charged with digging mass graves to try and shut down any threat as quickly as possible. There are also over 100 vets from around the country that will be assessing and sadly euthanasing stock.[3]

Scott Morrison has pledged 2 billion dollars towards the bushfire relief stepping away from the promised budget surplus[4] and I guess while to the common person that sounds like a lot of money it really is jack compared to what it will cost to rebuild the loss of homes, stock, vineyards, reforestation, mental health care (which seems to be getting lost in all of this) besides the fact that you can NOT put a price tag on the loss of human and animal life! What really annoys me is why, oh why couldn't this money have been put to the good and sensible use back when the Garnaut Climate Change Review was released (2008), who knows how differently this disaster would have played out. Letting go of the coal industry doesn't have to be a traumatic break up it could have been, and still can (albeit a little too late), be introduced at a reasonable rate where wind/hydro renewable energy sources were built up providing new jobs for those from the coal industry. There would have been time to retrain workers while renewable energy plants were being built, jobs would have been provided for the construction of the plants and when built newly trained coal personnel could have seamlessly moved in to their new positions. OK I'm no master of industry so there are probably many, many flaws with this but I can't see why we, the common people can try to find ways of making things work while those in power just shrug and say 'no, can't do that'.

Anyway that's it for today I've rabbled enough and my tummy is complaining because I've missed lunch, I hope all of you are and do stay safe no matter where you are in this (now) very fragile world.

Ending with Something Beautiful for you All

It was supposed to be really hot today where we are, but it was much cooler than I thought it was going to be. It got hot at some point, but at least it didn't reach 100+ (or 30+ for Celsius). We had a fire rather close to us late in the afternoon, but it was under control when the warning went out, and ended up being a smallish grass fire, so it was taken care of rather quickly...thank goodness for that.

we evacuated again tonight =_=' authorities were worried the very strong winds after the southwesterly wind change would make things go bonkers and start however many spot-fires with flying embers, but i think things here also haven't been as bad as expected? but i think we'll know for sure when maps are updated in the morning. although the Abbeyard fire has definitely grown and also linked with the smaller fire at Mt Buffalo, so things have definitely been more active this afternoon/evening. we're hoping to be able to head home again tomorrow. it's exhausting and sometimes frustrating that it's so up and down, but we're just dealing with everyday as it comes...
