To make it short, I personally feel that having both at the same time is too much. We are already behind for Quest-A-Thon and now with the Gelatin War I'm afraid our chances of pulling this off have become even smaller. I wonder why it wasn't possible to plan the War for next week or so...?
I'll probably still have time to do both, but I agree the timing is a bit poor. Lots of people want a new pet slot, but we're still behind on the daily goals for quests. Lots of people want to battle as well, so that will just interfere even more with people having to split time between them both.
I can understand wanting to get the Gelatin War in before the big holiday season starts, but this probably should have been pushed back by another week or so.
Agree, the timing could have been thought out better. Especially since just had like two months of summer lull, not counting a week of previous quest-a-thon.
This is such bad timing. And isn't the Quest-A -Thon target higher this time? We've smashed the target several times, and I wasn't worried about the increase even though I can't do as much as I normally would to help. But now with the Gelatine battle on top? It's too much at once, and I don't see the Quest-A-Thon being completed this time.
I agree that having both at once is a bit much for those who want to do both. It doesn't affect me so much because Tak's too weak to do more than 500 hp damage at a go, and I'm too lazy to put much effort into battling, so I'm concentrating on the quest a thon. But the timing does seem bad.
In the news comments someone mentioned maybe they want to get the war in before school starts back, but it's already started here. (I'm in the southern US, I think maybe we start really early?)
The timing could've been planned better but I'm glad that the final boss is on for a week and not a 48 hour straight event like it used to be (otherwise more sleepless nights along with quests!) but it would've been better if it was a day or two later when Quest-A-Thon finished.
I was already a little miffed this time and felt like subeta really wanted to sabotage our chance at completing the quest a thon by
and now this, starting another event on top of it to draw half the players away from questing when we're already behind enough as it is. I think they just want to see us fail for once.
I secretly dreaded when this quest-a-thon started, but I tried to be openly positive and say "we'll make it" but this is the last straw. 😔
I will admit I do like this format of the boss better. It's still pretty difficult for weaker pets to reach the 5 mil damage goal, so I think it will probably still be higher tier pets that end up earning the Core. I think this makes it more fair, I know people like competition but it's disheartening to put in a bunch of time and effort and still end up being like a few battles short of having a higher damage total than the cutoff for the prizes. At least this way people can put in a bunch of time if they want to and still earn something.
I'm in the Southern US also and I know some schools here started up to like 2 weeks ago, so the starting before school thing didn't make much sense to me either. Maybe we're just the odd ones out in that regard? Not sure when other parts of the country normally start.
Yeah, idk my local schools started back like two weeks ago, and the college campus started back...last week? Idk where the idea that this is "before school" is coming from?
Why couldn't the quest-a-thon have started a week ago, and then we had the gelly war? Not like anything was happening...at all...all summer.
I'm personally fortunate to have a huge pet that's already nearly hit the 5 mil mark, so I have plenty of time to quest. But I feel for people with smaller pets who want to participate in both events. This is essentially making them choose between a new pet slot and boss battle prizes.
Out of curiosity, what tier is your pet, if you don't mind me asking? Mine is tier 8 which I thought was pretty good, but he's just a baby apparently lol. I can just hear the little "tink" sound when he attacks the boss and just bounces off XD (Or maybe it's more of a "splat" considering it's jelly.)
I agree that it's too much. I have a weaker battle pet which would make the battle goal unbearably long/tedious even without the quests, so the battling aspect will have to be an afterthought for me.
Sure we've blown the quest goals out of the water in the past, but how much of that was due to the use of personal forum groups to do Sarah's quests? In light of being kindly asked to not use that exploit anymore (which wasn't even properly announced btw), how much of a chance do we really have with a higher goal? Plus honestly the fact that we're allowed to have other people hold our sp to do Sarah's quest but not use the forum group is quite frankly irritating. It's still the same concept as "hiding" your sP from Sarah, except that it's encouraging trust trading? What exactly is the point of this discrepancy? Either allow hiding your sp or don't allow it, but please don't settle on in-betweens that can still basically be viewed as an exploit.
On that note, I was excited about Sarah's quests changing due to people feeling like they needed to use the exploit to fully do their part. I fail to see how that was even addressed, so there's that disappointment as well. As much as I feel like I'm not doing my part by ignoring Sarah's quests this time around, I'm sorry but I'm not willing to trust trade my sP away.
Why not have the first questaton just before summer (half June like we had now), then gelatins halfway summer (half/late july), and then now the questathon (half/late august)? I really don't get who thought this was a good idea to combine the two...
When you make people choose between a personal goal (battle) or a joint goal (quests), a lot are going to go for personal gain. Not that I blame those who do, it's just natural. But you just take away the "let's work together" feel by adding a personal goal to it, and that's just a shame, you know?
I'd need at least 1-2 hours each day for questing, and 3 hours each day for battling in order to have a chance to reach the goal. I start working again on Monday, so that's never going to happen, but I would have loved to get at least the chance of it.
I'm also kind of confused about the Sarah's quest thing. There were all of those suggestions in that one forum thread and all that ended up happening was... raising the cap slightly? Most people probably still have way more than 1.5 mil, so I fail to see how that really makes a difference. I suppose the 6 months for new users to do her quests for the achievements is kinda nice though.
But that's getting a bit off-topic.
I'm going to pile on the "both at once...who thought this was a good idea?" train. XD I'm going to try like the blazes for the core, which is going to mean the quests can go take a long walk off a short pier. It was always a bit grind-y for me, but I tried to pitch in for everyone who loves pet slots and to be honest, I like forum titles and the raffle tickets. =0P But... I want the core more.
Do you have a rare item that just won't sell? Are you going through the high levels of Item Hunt? Or maybe you just HATE that blue bunny? Then you should join IHH helpers and IHH bargain in the forum groups!
Both at once was a pretty bad idea, imho.

I'm another one who thinks having both events at once is a very bad idea.
I'm having a very bad day with my arthritis so have to choose between doing a couple of quests or a couple of battles before taking a break. I feel guilty for letting my fellow questers down but I'd like to get some kind of battling prize even though it will be very low level.
lol I have to agree with everything said. This quest-a-thon felt like we were being set up for failure from the get go with the 1mil goal in 1 week, and now battle event on top of it?? ok i dont really feel like grinding away on a boss so i'll keep doing quests but ¯(ツ)/¯
Absolutely 100% agree with you
I cannot understand the logic at all. The timing is totally shitty.
Thanks, Subeta -_-
EDIT: Oh, and I know us users in England don't count for anything here, but schools aren't back for another two weeks. Just saying...
Not thrilled about this timing. At all. 👎
But then again, last time we've had a literal last-minute drop of weekend bonus quests for the last day of the quest-a-thon that pulled us through by the skin of our teeth. I guess I'll go back to questing while I wait and see how this turns out.
It would've been nice to have the jelly war/new battle layout testing start a day after the quest-a-thon. Sandwiched between the quest-a-thon and the anniversary stuff maybe? idk.
Speaking of poor planning...
I'm mostly furious that there's no realistic/on-site way to track damage done in the boss battle. With something that requires hours of grinding it shouldn't be a guessing game.
"Oh, sorry, but you only did 4.9m damage. Sucks for you!"
