I'm not pleased at all. The quest-a-ton goal was alright raised comparing to last time when we barely made it. So chances weren't in our favour to make it this time either and that was just when it was alone the quest-a-ton to do.

But on top of that 5mil damage to do and 2500 (ok not for everyone) mini jellies to beat?

It's too much, it's not fun. It's grinding three things at the same time. Why do we go so long without having anything and then squeeze it all out in one go?

Staff's response seems to be that they wanted to make the Quest-A-Thon harder for us this time because they don't want us just blowing through them in two days. But it was already going to be harder with the raised goal and it being a busy time of year with people getting ready to go back to school and all that.

Add the Gelatin War on top of that, and it just feels like overkill. I appreciate the extra weekend quests, I really do, but I don't like some of the excuses that just boil down to "Well it's supposed to be hard."

@ laurey Agreed.

Considering it was already going to be hard as is, the excuse for throwing the gelatin war in sounds a little bit like a lotta garbage. :/

Staff already made it harder for us by not advertising this on social media, or via newsletter. Btw the last newsletter? November 2016. Kinda might be a good idea to get a new one out for a big dual-event thing like this + the anniversary and our autumn holiday block coming up. Justsayin'. Edit for correction: newsletter was titled for November, actually went out on December 1st.

Also not buying the "we want to make it harder for you" reason, especially after the whole "we want to space the events out more" bit from the Masq and Vesnali lineup that brought up on the last page.

We overshot the first couple of times because everyone and their mother wanted a pet slot. People are less interested now because it's getting repetitive with the big prize. And yeah, I have ideas for non-transferrable prizes that might make people more interested, but they involve a pick-your-own kinda scheme. We did twice the requirements for the Christmas 2016 one because every quest was a weekend quest for the full duration of it. We barely made the last one because of the Sunday all-quests-are-weekend-quests bonus with ~3.5 hours to spare.

tl;dr - Glad for the quest-a-thon, glad for the weekend quests. Pissed with the event crowding (after it was stated that they WANT to space events out more) and the lame excuses and reasoning behind this event overlap. Overall - kinda getting tired of this.

I'm also surprised at the lack of newsletters for so long.

I agree with everything you've said though. Using the excuse that we've had a Quest-A-Thon during another big event (Luminaire) isn't a very good comparison. More people tend to be online during that event anyway, and like you said they had the special quest rewards for more than just a few days. Also while Luminaire is technically a big event, it doesn't require you to do a whole lot other than collect your Melody prizes every day. Battling against the Hydra and the minis for the achievements during the Gelain War can take hours. It's a much more intense event.

@ Laurey Makes two of us. I vaguely remember it being said that they were on a new system for them which should make it easier to make them more regular.

Yep. Lumi is kind of one of the site's biggest and most popular holidays. Everyone is on and buying their friends gifts, enjoying Melody's Cottage or just messing around with Mysterious Melody/participating in user-run Secret Santa contests, taking part in giveaways, etc. Most of the Luminaire activities (except Melody's Cottage) are user-run/user-driven, unless we have a plot like that one year with the fairies and the nostalgic pet colour release.

I just don't know. It kind of feels like staff don't know either. Spaced out holidays? Clustered together holidays? Overlapping events? Spaced out events? More challenge? Less challenge? Ramp it up to 11, while also making a part of it easier early because reasons. (The reason probably being vocal displeasure of the overlap.)

Can we please be consistent? I don't like this. It looks messy, it makes the site look messy and it makes a lot of users unhappy.

[edit] OH and let's not forget the mess that is Sarah's quests and forum group banks! Which turned a lot of people off from doing Sarah's quests for the quest-a-thon. Because, you know. That also didn't make it more challenging to hit the goal or anything. 😒

All the schools in my area are back in session (except for one district but they start Monday and are pretty occupied with all of that prep). Raised goal coupled with lower user attendance was dumb to begin with. Adding on another event was a nice way to shoot out our legs.

As an adult with a /lovely/ 8-5 job with a 3-4.5 hours of commute a day I haven't been able to do all of my quests every day but I've been trying D: I managed it today at least.

I'm not complaining, I dislike Quest-a-Thon's. Especially since we just had one fairly recently if i'm not mistaken. I think it's fine having both run at once. It satisfies the battlers who don't care about questing, and questers who don't battle have something to do in the meantime.

Put in the effort, and you shall receive rewards. Slack off, and you'll simply fail this time around. There's always a next time.

...but i do wish BQs would be counted as part of the quest-a-thon. Honestly, they should and it's stupid that they're not. The only ones who can knock out those 30 quests are the higher tier battlers, so it does even out still to be fair. In fact, it'd be a good way to encourage users to try out battling as well. Best of both worlds, if you ask me.

Quests dont take me too long and I have nothing better to do with my free time anyway so I'm fine with it. Quests made me 8 million sp today and some of that is going to go to getting a next tier weapon and the healing after every battle.

My only complaint is that I can't see how much total damage I've done to the jelly boss.

What's pissing me off with these events is that with only 1100 users online the lag is terrible, what the hell is it going to be like when the bigger events start??!! Every time it's the same and yet we keep being told that they've worked it out and next event will be different yet it's always glitchy and slow! Besides that dummy spit loving the weekend bonus with the quests I might just make enough to finally get my 12 month account :D

The lag hasn't been too bad for me but I've spent most of the day at my dad's, so I only managed to completely finish Quentin before midnight. But yeah, if the site struggles with two mini-events, the bigger ones might have some trouble. I also like to say that it's not a Subeta event if the beginning goes off without a hitch. ;D

I'd probably be more willing to give battling a bigger shot if BQs were part of it, at least for the week. Nothing on the site has ever really inspired me to do more than occasionally train my pet.

Skimmed a bit (so apologies if I'm skipping opinions/counter points on all this) but honestly I think, regardless of if people like it or not, it comes down to this.

In all fairness I was on hiatus for the last QaT, so idk how close or difficult that one was (and I'm kicking myself for missing it ;o; I need ALL THE PET SLOTS lmao) but it was still pulled off. So it feels like staff is just trying to find the middle ground between "dauntingly impossible" and "challenge that is doable but not so easy it's just giving it away". And maybe this combination of time and quests isn't it, but they have to test the waters somewhere. (Remember the first QaT and how laughably easy that one was?)

And while I understand quests and battles are both tedious we get both often enough (QaT and these Gelatins, though to a lesser extent) that I don't think the overlapping is really an issue, in this case? Even for people who can't be on all the time or every day. (I know I had quest days I just couldn't complete all of them on due to real life.)

Honestly, when it comes right down to it; this is a game. We are getting instant rewards with every quest completed-- more so now with them all being Weekend Quests. The QaT is an incentive and perk. (One that, in the worst case situation, we will still get the chance to get again; probably soon.)

Not saying people have to love every choice the staff of the site makes but I'm genuinely surprised by how upset some people seem to be about this. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.

I'm not even going to bother fighting the big boss.. there's just no hope for me and my comparatively-tiny battle pet. I'm still up for trying my best at this quest-a-thon, but with so many people having to choose between questing and battling, I don't see much hope x_x The weekend quests buff is nice, at least.

I'm not going to get the 5 mil goal with my T5 pet with meh weapons, so that is out of the question. Instead I prioritize on battling 250 minis (mayor lags and even a few errors came up) and doing my quests. I'm on vacation and just chill at home, but even I have to say it is waaay too much! I don't know how people with full-time jobs and busy scheduals can manage all. So yeah, users will choose what they will spend their time on. Not everyone is interested in the q-a-t prises and prefer battling. Even if we don't get the goal, the marathon gave me the initiative to do all the quests this time, getting a nice amount of sp and rare items in the process.

Also not a fan of both events happening at once.

The Questathon is getting almost completely ignored by me right now. The Hydragellos takes precedence because I want that core a whole lot more than I want another pet slot, and this may be the only chance that my meh battle pet can possibly achieve it without having to rank against all the awesome battlers, too.

I have enough battles to grind that I literally don't have time for both events, given that I have a job.

And that affects the folks who DO want that pet slot (and other goodies), which sucks.

I certainly think it's a little off to think that staff is intentionally trying to set us up for failure; a lot of staff members are huge pet people who would love that new pet slot too, and staff is generally really excited to see people working together on things like the Quest-A-Thon.

I do think that there could have been more promotion and such for the Quest-A-Thon, and I'm really disheartened by the number of people I've seen say things like "well I did one quest so I'll let everyone else do the rest lol" or that they'll be ignoring quests to focus on battling. While I've been able to balance battling and questing pretty easily due to an abundance of free time (and a t13 pet with a couple of okay weapons), I can totally agree that the timing isn't great. I think it wouldn't have been such a big deal if the goal was just 750k for this one, but unfortunately with how many people are unable to devote as much time to Subeta as they would like due to real life, a number of battlers are having to focus just on battling rather than helping with the Quest-A-Thon. It might not be a huge amount of them, but it's enough to dissuade people, especially with the 1 million goal already being so daunting. It's totally fair for them to focus on their priority rather than the group activity of the Quest-A-Thon, don't get me wrong, but it is so frustrating to be unable to contribute more to pick up slack for the people not participating.

... Also this is probably petty, but at this point I wish they'd just... make Sarah's quests available for everyone during Quest-A-Thons, or something? Obviously people are always going to look to find a way around it, and making it so we can't use the forum group thing but can trust transfer our sP to people is a really weird solution, in my opinion.

(Also also I wish Battle Quests counted so I could contribute another 30 quests per day, guh, I have never been so whiny over them not counting toward the Quest-A-Thon before. :'c )

Not entirely true for the quest-a-thon. Users (like me) who complete every quest they can daily might still not get rewarded no matter how much effort they put in. Unlike the gelatin war, we're relying on other people to succeed. It's really out of our hands here.

Out of curiosity, how many battles are you needing to complete?

For me, that number is 1600 battles, more if I want to be on the safe side of my estimates. That is a LONG time clicking in front of the computer. I'm glad that you're managing both the battles and the questing, but as disappointing as it is, I don't have that much free time in my life to do both. In fact I'm already behind where I should be.

So while I'm sympathetic and I get the frustration about not being able to do more, I feel good about this particular decision. I do wish there was a different mechanic other than "do one quest and get the prizes" to encourage people to quest more as I think that would help, but in this case, I think there's quite literally just too much going on.
