So early Monday morning I was checking pet ranks on my tablet. It showed I went from rank 15 all the way down to rank 31. I thought maybe the cache on my tablet was screwy. Nope, it was the same when I got home in the morning, so I filed a ticket last night.
Guess what. Level no longer counts toward your pet rank. I know some of you probably prefer it that way, that is your opinion but what is so WRONG about it is that we were not even told such a major change was coming. In the ticket I was told it was intentional. Those of us who spent millions on leveling up are shit out of luck. I’d like to know why someone could not have taken 5 or 10 minutes to let us know. And I DID check through the feedback, suggestions and ideas, announcements, problems and bugs and etc seeing if there was a post.
There was not.
So, I made this thread to not only complain but warn other battlers.
I will comment that there was a post about it in the Capped Pet EXP Problem thread.
Im not making an excuses, just letting you know. I do hate that battle news is usually never communicated to all properly.
No comment on the ranking, doesnt bother me either way.
I agree that a warning could have been nice 'Hey guys, just letting you know that level no longer affects your pet ranking!' Takes like 2 seconds... But I also think if they took out level from ranks, they should also remove intelligence too since people can boost the shit out of this and there is no cap...don't really see the difference myself?
Regardless of how I feel about level boosting (esp. since it's moot now :P) I definitely think this should have been announced ahead of time. That's a pretty major change, and people are going to be upset/discuss it on both sides of the issue when it happens - did they think no one would notice? Staff is only shooting themselves in the foot by not announcing stuff like this in a proper format (not just a single post on one topic). Instead of just the normal rage about change, there is now rage about change + very justified frustration re: not being notified about something that impacts a large portion of Subeta's community.
What difference would a notice make? None. People will have still pumped their level for no reason other than meaningless prestige. I don't see how you can be upset when it doesn't make any difference - your performance in battles hasn't been affected at all.
Intel serves a purpose - the more scrolls you can equip, the more powerful you are. Level serves none.
it would at least remove the element of frustration that once again, battle news was buried somewhere obscure. For me, it just adds more to the feeling that staff really doesn't understand how to communicate with users, or at least doesn't seem to understand how they can improve their track record regarding communication. I feel the same way you do about level boosting. Not making an announcement ahead of time comes across as another situation, though.
Now people will just pump their intelligence for 'prestige' I'm not actually upset about this, It boosted my ranking by 6, not that I pay attention to ranking - too much hard work and a waste of sP. But a lot of people HAVE wasted a ton of sP for whatever reason, so they should have at least been notified =/
I get it; I'm just bored of there being a where was the announcement?! for everything on the site nowadays. News circulates around the battle community pretty quickly - we aren't massive and everyone is helpful these days. What would have happened if yesterday, Cranberry said 'Just a warning, in one week level won't contribute towards ranks'? People would still be annoyed about wasting their sP boosting level the day before. I just don't see how it benefits anybody.
But it stops them from potentially wasting MORE sP when they don't know that it's not counting anymore.
Where would you like us to communicate such a thing? I'd be happy to share news like this more widely, but I don't think the majority of people on site would care about a news post simply saying that level has been removed from pet rankings (which do not affect gameplay in any way). As for why intelligence was left, it actually affects what your pet can do in battle. Level does not. People were boosting level cheaply simply to raise their total rank, and the list was not an accurate ranking of pet power.
that makes sense, for sure. And you're right on that point, in a sense making an announcement about something they don't intend to take feedback on isn't going to make much of a difference. But there are obviously (from the OP and some other posts in the Battle Chat) that not everyone knew what happened, or figured it out right away. And not everyone who battles, is part of the community. And not everyone who is part of the community is active on the BC forums. So I guess it's kind of six of one, half dozen of the other? XD
[edit]
maybe ping siteupdate and battle together to a topic in updates/battle or some such place? Or just battle, for that matter. A battle ping from you or would be visible :D
As for why intelligence was left, it actually affects what your pet can do in battle
Just wondering for this bolded part, then why it is not counted towards the cap? I know it's probably because we can't train it or use exp for INT in BQs...I just assumed that level was taken out of ranking to stop people gaining some kind of advantage, then the same could be said for intelligence? Just curious, not being argumentative or anything :p
OKAY, STILL THE WEAKEST PET ONSITE.
Seriously, my battle pet dropped by about 20 ranks.
im actually happy with the change, and i dont really think a warning ahead of time would have changed much (because the end result would still be the same), but we do have a battle news page that hasn't been used since 2013 and i dont see the harm in slapping up little explanations on there from time to time. you know, something like "fyi, level no longer factors into pet ranking" as the change is enacted, instead of just slipping that into the third page of a suggestion thread and leaving it at that. yes news travels fast in the battle community, but something like that would be handy for the battlers who- for whatever reason- choose not to engage with the community.
Battle news page is dumb and is going away!
You should see if they could make a page analogous to the announcements news thread for battle.
Seems like the programing would already be in place for the most part to do it, and then people could either actively subscribe or unsubscribe to it just like the announcements notifications.

Not a serious battler here but I imagine some booster items are going to deflate a bit after this, so these kinds of changes make a difference to the rest of the site too. :P I always support increasing the frequency of announcements, news updates, and informational pings.
-The problem with not announcing it anywhere is that people who don't actively participate in the BC chat will not notice, and maybe continue to spend their exp to increase level. I would be pissed if that happened to me. Sometimes I just don't have time to catch up with all the posts in the forums, so it would be nice if changes are either posted in the battle news, with the site update ping, or the battle ping.
Bear in mind this only affects the overall leaderboard, not the actual ranks - you're talking about a pool of max 100 users, of which some users have multiple pets on the rankings or have left the site entirely. It's a pretty niche topic.
