Extending Masquerade

The Masquerade has been extended to 11:59pm on April 12. On Saturday and Sunday we'll be decreasing the wait time between dances and increasing the trinket payout a bit.

haven't been active in a hot second because of all the site issues. what's the point of extending the event when most of your user base can't even use the site in general? don't fix it if it isn't broken. :/

Tbh, I find the site issues quite comforting- in a frustrating sort of way. I'm a hot mess of poor [mental] coding too and I lag, lose stuff and inadvertently piss people off all the time. Thinking about it, if Subeta were perfect, I'd probably find it too intimidating to play here very often. You have my empathies staff and Keith. If there is anything us players can do to help out, please let us know.

Also the part of me that loves mysteries and conspiracies is rather wondering whether or not all these constant site issues are some kind of sabotage.

MAN, these comments are a MOOD. Bless everyone who's written so far because honestly I agree with all of it.

The repeating pattern of 'push a huge change that doesn't have to be pushed immediately, without warning or questioning the userbase, or paying attention to our own holidays' is getting really old. As nice as the gifts and extensions are, and as much as we appreciate them, don't you guys on staff think that you wouldn't have to do stuff like that if you would just make the right decisions in the first place? Cleaning up all these messes must be difficult; why not just ... not make the messes in the first place? Or at least choose your battles better? Because right at the start of Masquerade, a wardrobe-centric holiday with mandatory wearables required to even PARTICIPATE, was a HELL OF A TIME to push a change to the wardrobe.

I understand that, with everyone indoors because of COVID, the site will lag and break more than usual. But the fact that I have to put 'more than usual' on the end of that really says something.

Subeta used to be a place where I could come and feel stable and take a break from the real world. But with the site as broken as the real, tangible, world, I just don't find myself enjoying it anymore.

I'm a healthcare worker, though I'm in administration and not on the front lines. I'm still working at least 5 days a week, even though I do a lot of my work from home with an encrypted laptop so that nobody's private health information can be snagged. It's Passover, but I'm working--obviously not right this minute, but I have a Zoom meeting in 90 minutes. I need to be available when the people on the front lines need me.

People who are still working at essential occupations are really grateful to be working and earning money, but a lot of us have even less free time than we would have under normal circumstances, because our occupations are essential and in greater demand.

I really looked forward to getting my dance count up last Sunday night, but Monday at 12:01 is 9:01 here. At least for the rest of the pandemic, I would really like you to consider not pushing things like the new wardrobe out of beta during site events and not making major updates during site events. I thought you were running backups and needed the site to be down so that nothing would be changing during the backups (that's part of my job, too) and not moving the code to a different site.

Lag during Masquerade sucks. Not being able to dance at all because you can't change clothes sucks more. Not being able to wear your carefully constructed premade Masquerade outfits because you can't figure out how to get any avatar you didn't make from scratch immediately to load and your preferred base is still broken also sucks a lot. I finally figured out a way to do it, but I can't do it in the new wardrobe.

And backups are essential, but the damage was already done. I feel fairly confident it could've been prevented from recurring during the event without moving the code.

I know that most of you have other jobs. But weekend evenings are also the times people who have to work during the pandemic are most likely to be able to play long enough to get dances/flowers/et cetera done--even those of us with irregular hours are more likely to snag some free time on the weekends.

If we had all this mess with just transfer last year + masquerade + new wardrobe so forget the new site layout.

FORGET IT.

I won't leave the site because I love everything I have here but please consider your real situation before play risky. Now I'm leaving the comment section to prevent saying words that don't reflect what I actually think because I'm getting upset. I love the staff but I'm not loving their decisions.

Ooh! Your story is similar to my experience on site. But yeah, I had a feeling that there would be multiple errors after the downtime. They do make the site less fun.

made a good point about waiting till after Masq was over. I heard that that massive wardrobe glitch had been fixed and people weren't losing items anymore so what was the point of having the downtime during the holiday?

The userbase hasn't had much time to settle down from the recent debacle, and this glitches have lowered morale even more....

I can't post on dance boards because I claim the above and my post doesn't show up. Even now reading the comment news a lot of avatars don't load for me. I can't click to train my pets because of the 502 errors that still appear, that when it doesn't take forever to load the page and lead me to some experiment 404 saying something I know - but can't do due to how slowly things load. I miss doing quests and it's a bummer I can't buy half the lounge items I need. I hope there's still time.

I saw your comment about all of your dance invites that disappeared. That link should allow you to get to them and accept/decline as needed. I usually just press F5 once I accept an invite to get through them rather than clicking on each individual invite.

Side note: My gold account expires in 3 days, but I haven't been able to put it to use for almost a week. I was going to get a new one when it expires, but I'll be holding off on it until the site is functional again.

I think I have enough trinkets to get everything I want, and thankfully I can buy it all if the site is ever functional again, but I love dancing and seeing the outfits people come up with, but I haven't been able to enjoy that recently. I do appreciate the extension, but sadly. it won't do much good if we can't do anything on the site. Hope you can get this sorted out soon.

This whole event, the wardrobe apocalypse, forum malfunctions, and the serious amount of inconsistencies is making us all feel like you gave up on this site. :( I get it's a lot of old code, but we're willing to work with you guys if you were just a bit more transparent with us all, we'd be fine with these rough patches. We want to know what needs to be done, when, and what we as players can do to help, other than continuing to throw money at you.

Please work with us before more people give up and leave for good.

I'm going to say what a lot of other users are saying. Where's the updates? We're kind of left in the dark and I'm getting off for the day. I still can't believe a new wardrobe was pushed on-top of a holiday. It could've waited until the summer.

The 502s are happening on every click. The site is not functional. I'm over Masq as well. It's not been enjoyable. I hate complaining, but I'm tired.

Also just wondering if we're going to get any sort of further update as to what is going on with the site? I know stuff is probably being worked on, but the last update on the forums from was nearly 36 hours ago saying that certain things should be fixed and then that ended up not being the case, and still isn't the case over a day later.

Sorry this is like my third post here already, but it's extremely frustrating when users are raising a bunch of questions and concerns and we get nothing but silence from staff for hours.

I'm gonna go with the echo chamber in here that I'm happy for the sentiment on extending the event but with 502 Bad Gateway errors happening every so often, it's hard to even dance with people, let alone navigate the site. An extension means little to me if I can't actually participate in the event, which a lot of users were unable to participate in due to to the updates and errors on the site. Errors that are still happening yet you want to extend the event for 3 more days? That's not really a promising thing.

I may not be leaving the site, or be one of those people saying they never want to come back, as I love subeta and I love the community here. I just dislike how every single time we get an update on the site, it's timed very poorly during site events that make it impossible to participate in. How promised updates take days-even weeks longer then what is provided with added issues lumped into the equation. I don't blame the development team for wanting to fix these changes, I'm all for them. I just wish they were executed better with more believable wait times. When you tell me an update is a few hours, I take that as, "Oh so half a day to 2 days to see the site again", since this always happens.

I'm sure we all appreciate gifts, items and other rewards to make it up for the problems on site, but that just doesn't do it for me anymore. I don't care if you give me a free GA for a year, if the site will still be as horrible as it's been for all these years and without any progress or improvements in regards to errors and downtime.

I think everyone is getting pretty tired of this repeating pattern. Please make some REAL, tangible changes, not just endless promises and apologies.

I honestly try not to complain too much about the site because I know it takes a lot of work to run this place and because I get a lot of fun out of it, but I'm gonna because I feel like it's fairly valid this time.

This has been insane. Since the site went down for those eight hours I've been able to dance twice. The forums don't work, half the links to move around the site lead nowhere, and loading a page takes several minutes if it decides to load at all. Subeta has been practically unusable.

I don't understand why the site constantly times its server moves and downtimes and upgrades to coincide with events. Maybe there's a computer-y reason, I don't know. But it drags down or completely ruins the event every time, and it seems like an especially bad year to try it given that more people are around the site due to COVID making us stay home. While getting extensions and GAs and other compensations is appreciated, I'd also appreciate it if we could just have the event as planned. The site still isn't functional and probably won't be by the time Masq ends. It's going to be the first year I couldn't rack up all the trinkets I needed since I started playing ~8 years ago, and I'm really disappointed in that.

I probably won't leave the site or anything drastic like that, but I am very frustrated by this event and how it's been handled.

Now that's out of my system, have a lovely day, good luck with the site fixes, and stay safe.

This is nowhere near the amount of time that people need to dance. I have literally had zero time to participate in the event and also mainly because I'm afraid to touch the wardrobe. I still don't know if I'm missing anything and I don't get why you guys did a sever migration/move and an event at the same time. It feels like anytime we have site "improvements" it also coincides with a holiday and ends up being more stressful than it needs to be. When a game becomes a chore, it can be really disheartening.

hit me in the feels. I'm in the exact same boat. I've been here for 14 years and It's been nothing but up and down, constant errors and downtime. I feel that Subeta is no longer fun because I'm at my wits end with the way things have been going.

I have poured so much money into this site. I enjoy buying cash shop items and helping support the site. September was the month when things really started going downhill. I haven't spent very much on CSC because what's the point!?

It's really sad to see that Subeta has been reduced tons of errors and I'm so disappointed. I don’t know what to do anymore. I don't want to walk away because I have spent so much money on pet slots and I feel I can't leave because of the money I've put into this site. I don't want to fight all the 502s and 503s, blank pages and slow loading times. I'm rapidly loosing interest and I've already started an account purge.

I wish that you can get some kind of refund or something if do decide to leave and self freeze your account. I've given away 20 pets because I'm starting to not care anymore and I've been toggling back and forth between staying and quitting. I really don’t want to make a decision that I may regret.

Error 503 Backend error

April 9, 2020, 1:39 pm by moonstarr

User Avatar

Having been here weathering the storm of 502 type errors for twelve years now, this issue has become repetitive, and Subeta is fast becoming not fun for me anymore.

It was once essentially my safe haven from the real world. I was into the site and events enough that every single day I would do all available quests and my dailies. I would actually schedule my vacations around Subeta, so that I didn’t miss the Masquerade. A couple of my pets share part of their names with my kids! Yeah- I was totally crazy for this site.

I rode out the errors, still spending money to keep a GA.

Awhile back, I started to feel quite sad because as a Christian, even some of my opinions given in a kind, uncombative manner in a relevant forum make me feel unwelcome.

I spent all 2019 saving up and looking forward to being able to buy tons of stat boosters to give my tier 13 battle pet a huge boost towards getting capped or being able to beat that handful of opponents that he still couldn’t beat ten times. -On top of the GA being kept- I spent virtually all my spending money here. That would be around $400 for the year. My one and only goal was to save up for those stat boosters at the Black Friday sale. When they came around earlier in the year, I disciplined myself so I could buy them all at once in November, since I knew I would be disappointed if I spent the CSC earlier and didn’t save it for the Black Friday Sale. But… then black Friday came around, and I ended up spending all that CSC on books, because someone decided we ‘didn’t need them’ since they’d been around earlier in the year. That really hurt. Once I was told that, I stayed silent, because it just bothered me so much I couldn’t even talk about it.

This year, with everything going on between site issues here and the real world, I can’t come even close to do that this year to try again. So, I’m just out of luck.

If this is what the site is being reduced to, tons of errors and disappointments, I don’t know what to do. I’ve spent so, so much over the last 12 years on GAs and battle opponents that I really, really, really don’t want to walk away. I’d miss my 22 fur babies so much. A few have been with me with entire time.

But I don’t know what to do anymore. I certainly can’t keep coming and fighting the 502s just to have things not work properly at my favorite holiday, just to get less time added than has been messed up due to errors. Please fix this, Subeta. I don’t want to be forced to make a decision to stop spending time here. That would affect me more than you all can even understand.

Can we get an update, here on the news page, about the deleted wardrobe items progress? I know it's not the norm but the forums are unreliable and using them to provide updates has a very shady feel to it. The one forum post I know of about the missing items has been silent since the 4th and the last post was a user lamenting that nothing had been returned to them. I've gotten the items I knew for sure were missing but only what I specifically sent in the ticket for. One of those is the Secret Garden Key, which I see from a post in here hasn't been returned to everyone. This makes me question the methodology that was offered as reason on the forum; that items were being returned in order of cost, which make me question a whole lot of other things. The helper who suggested things might be being returned in that way did not say that was absolute fact so the process might be different but since there hasn't been an update in days, or any visible process, we're in the dark again. Please communicate. Thank you

Cute extension btw. Too bad no one gets to use it. IDK why you guys constantly want to release 'rewards' on a non-functioning site. "We gave you X, not our fault you didn't struggle through the lag all day to use it! Some people did, so therefore it's fair!"

Why bother. This whole holiday has been a disaster because YOU decided pushing out the wardrobe before it was truly ready was a great idea on top of a holiday. It couldn't wait til much later, during a non-holiday, like the summer and you could have held a contest or whatever to test it out.

Typical as always, make bad calls and have bad timing to do things. And it's all because we had to have another new wardrobe, after having gone through like, what, 5 before? God forbid anything actually new be implemented.

It's a nice gesture, thank you, but to echo the sentiment; what is a few extra days of limited functionality? Personally, I'm done with Masq. I was excited for it and had my outfit all saved and ready to go, then lost parts of it to the wardrobe glitch and had to change it while waiting for missing items to be returned, I can't even see my base skin in the wardrobe and can't use the new wardrobe to change skins, but it barely matters because I don't trust it anyway. I'm probably in the minority but right now I am having no fun with the event and I'd just like a site that works, where my items persist, and where I didn't wish I had waited longer to use the GA gift because it's being wasted right now.
