Extending Masquerade

The Masquerade has been extended to 11:59pm on April 12. On Saturday and Sunday we'll be decreasing the wait time between dances and increasing the trinket payout a bit.

It's been running really fast with small hiccups and almost error free for me all morning. Also yesterday evening it went extremely well for a few hours. I don't feel like wasting precious questig/BQ time on tedious dancing routines, but it's o.k. for me until they've fixed all the non working features. And then let's maquerade ;-)

SHAME.

And I agree with thoughts about finances. I had the same feeling about this for years now.

- absolutely. This also isn't the first time I've suspected something fishy about the site's finances, and I don't think the site has the money or funds necessary to pay a proper professional to completely overhaul the website and get it working again. This is why the site needed a "nest egg" or savings account, so that if something catastrophic happened, that there would have been enough money squirreled away in savings (i.e. emergency fund) to pay a professional to restore the website. As it stands, with no accountability in terms of fundraising, sales, income, revenue, etc...and with little to no communication and radio silence from the staff...how are we supposed to expect anything other than the site's likely demise?

Like a great many other people I've stopped playing, the site is unuseable. I check in a couple of times a day to see if everything's still laggy and giving endless errors (it is). Please get this mess fixed. Take as many things offline as you need to get the main skeleton of the site in a playable state again, because obviously trying to fix everything at once isn't working. And for the love of pete actually talk to us. Time was the programmers gave us technical explanations of what was broken and what needed fixing. At the very least respond to more of the bug reports, there are still multiple issues that haven't been acknowledged by anyone on staff.

This morning I could access the forums for about two minutes- because I actually got an alert for staff posts on various threads in the problems + bugs forum. basically said that problems are still worked on. Better than nothing, but I still have to join the chorus of people here unhappy about the lack of communication. I have been here nearly ten years, and never been bothered too much by all the hiccups, they were always sorted out at some point. But I don't think there was so much silence from staff during the sorting process.

It's really frustrating to see that there really hasn't been any updates/communication in this whole thing. The forums still don't really work, dancing is a pain to try to do for the event, 502's popping up still. I've been on this site for nearly 11 years, I'm used to the lag, but I'm not used to the lack of communication on this whole situation. It's kind of a slap in the face to everyone.

LMAO. Only Trump really thinks it WILL be mid-May.

Is there a chance it will be better in May? I got the impression there was a slim chance because of something my boss said to me about setting up the May trauma call schedule, but realistically, that only applies here in California, and by a slim chance I mean a freaking nearly-dead-of-anorexia chance, not a twiggy chance or even a heroin chic chance. Our hospital has been extremely lucky. I expected it to be bad at our facility because of our patient population, but the South Bay got hit much harder than we did.

Newsom locked our asses down early and the curve is getting pretty flat out here; we are doing a lot better than New York or Michigan because of that, plus we were one of the states hit first.

(I caught something back in March and was actually tested for COVID on March 20th, but I was negative thank G-d. What freaks me out is how hard it is to get tested if you don't work in a hospital and also haven't actually been overseas, even though it is now definitely possible to catch it from people who aren't hospital patients or recent travellers. Did you see on CNN last night that Trump actually shut down work on the tests back in January? And he says Obama would've done the same thing.

I say this with love. I know you put a lot of time, effort, and money into this site, and I know it's hard. But ever since the downtime, NONE of my dances are going through. How do I know for sure? Because I'm only ever dancing with my IRL SO, Smudge. And since the downtime, he's managed to dance with me twice, and none of mine have gone through. Add to that, quests are impossible to do, I feel like I'm back on AOL dialup, which is literally impossible for me to work with because of my ADHD. The Job agency doesn't work at all, the rift needs daily manual resets, the bathhouse is still jacked up... At this point, I'm scared to do ANYTHING because I don't know what will work and what will glitch. Get your shit together. I don't know WHAT the issues are (lack of qualified staff, money to pay for quality hosting/database management, etc) , but whatever is the root cause, please sort it out and be honest with us. If the site's just relegated to a thing that works when it works and doesn't when it doesn't, ala neurogalaxy, fine, that's how the internet cookie crumbles sometimes. I'd be sad, but I'd just prioritize powerpets instead. But I've always liked you better, because, well, you can curse here but not there, and I hate that infantilization, and I love the queerness here. This just isn't sustainable on top of the quarantine, guys. We need relaxing escapism, not frustrating twiddling of thumbs while Rome burns.

Came on to check things out. I see it got worse. I spent 10min fighting through 502s to get a single page to load. All I can say at this point is "wow". I don't know what else to say. I haven't seen anymore staff announcements either.

There will be massive amount of users leaving once the site gets stable--if it ever does. It's been, what? Almost 8 months of having issues. It started in September and nothing has been fixed or resolved.

I'm honestly fed up. I hate complaining, but I'm not alone in doing so. We're all tired.

Please fix this.

Unsure if the dances I'm requesting are even going through because of the lack of "your dance has been accepted" showing up in the side bar. I know comments are being lost, or posted with no notification. Are dances falling under the same phantom category? I do love it here too much to leave outright. But with the constant errors this is going from first to last on my list of places to spend time online. Not for lack of trying. :c

But everything is still broken including autoprice, jobs, rift, etc., and the super lag and error messages make it impossible to do quests, again. Haven't been able to do any quests for the past couple days. Guess I'm going to give up and check back again maybe tomorrow. This is worse that the previous "maintenance" a while back. :(

There is a chance that people will be resuming ordinary work sometime in May. It's to be hoped for, but it's by no means a sure thing. There is also a chance that we won't be out of the woods until June or July.

The pandemic won't truly be over until we have a treatment that works reliably or a vaccine. I would not bet on schools opening, or having a normal social life, by May 15th.

The reason things are slowing down is because people are staying home. It sucks, but it's working.

If we relax precautions too soon, things will get much worse than they already are--there will be a lot more asymptomatic carriers and it will spread like wildfire.

Don't hope to be let out of the house too soon. Even people who don't get their flu shots (get your flu shots dammit people!) have some immunity to influenza, because everyone has had some form of it before even if it isn't the one that is currently on the loose. This is not true of Covid-19. All diseases are most deadly when introduced to a naive population, and the whole human race is currently a naive population.

A lot of people have already had it and don't know. It doesn't make everyone super sick. That's the problem and the reason why people have to stay home. About 1-2% of people infected die and about 5-10% go to the hospital. Around 85% of people do not need to be hospitalised. Of this group, some of them will have a severe but not life-threatening influenza-type experience. Many others will have had a short fever, some GI symptoms (coronavirus doesn't always reach the lungs and sometimes stays in the gut) or think they have had allergies or a cold. Some people who have antibodies don't remember being sick at all.

So, if you are out walking around in public all day and hanging out with people, the chances are very good that you will get the infection, and the chances are also very good that you won't know you have it because you won't feel all that bad.

I work in a hospital. I know you just want to ease people's worries. I get it.

But if you tell people to expect the very best-case scenario, they'll be brutally disappointed if anything else happens. Expect it to last through June and then if we can lift restrictions safely in May, you can be pleasantly surprised.

I don't know if you would, but if you'd consider a slightly longer extension of the Masquerade under the circumstances I know a lot of people would feel better. I can't even dance and claim because the pages are loading so wonky that I can't even see who has danced before me for ages, and then I don't get my dance in return because nothing's loading -_-;

it's kindof disheartening when the Masquerade is usually something that lifts all of our spirits.

I hope the site is fixed enough to get in even a few dances but with only 2 days and the site barely working I might just give up on dancing at all this year :/

Cant do anything I have over 100 dances I need to accept and cant do it without it 502ing all over the place. I takes me over 20 something reloads to load a page when it does 502. Or it takes anywhere to up to 5 mins to load a page. Cant do quests (not that I can seeing as they havent reset, dont get me started on the Bathhouse or the Rift). Changing the severs over and site maintenance should have waited until the Masq was over. Or take the site down until everything was fixed and then extend Masq. This is my first Masq here and its been pretty lackluster because of all of this :/

EDIT: As I tried to post this it 502 sECOND TRY - 502 AGAIN v . v

Stupid thing posted before I was finished.

Anyway, I'm not upset about the wardobe, backup problems, or server move. The extreme lag and errors have made the site pretty much unplayable for days though. Yesterday there where a few small periods of speed increase, but they didn't last long. I spent hours questing yesterday, amd still didn't finish. The day before I didn't quest at all. Forget trying to do blue building or Wizard quests, since they just punish you for the site's lag even though you're going as fast as you possibly can. Trying to dance has been very difficult if not impossible for long stretches of time.

While I have faith that we will be reimbursed for our GAs and have our bathhouse streaks will be restored, I personally feel that the masq extension is inadequate. Extending the end date while nobody can properly use the site doesn't count as an extension. It's like if a store you like to shop at announces a big sale, then closes so you can't get in.

I think an extension of 5 days, that starts only when the site is stable enough for people to enjoy, is more reasonable and fair.

April 10, 2020, 12:34 pm by Barguestspirit

It's midday on the 10th, Subeta time, and the site is still pretty much unplayable. Now, I'm not going to bitch and whine about the new wardrobe and the server move happening during masq, because I understand that these things needed to be done. The new wardrobe was pushed out ahead of time because the old wardrobe was causing issues, overloading and slowing down the site. That is why the new wardrobe was quickly brought out, to fix some bad problems that where dragging the site down at the very beggining of masq.

The server move also needed to happen asap, as did fixing the issue with back ups. Is it unfortunate that all these things happened during masq? Of course it is, but the staff didn't just randomly decide to start tweaking things out of the blue for shits and giggles. They where trying to fix some serious problems that would have resolted in !ajor problems
