Q. Can foreign language be used in CW names and descriptions?
A. Yes, to a point. If it is a word or phrase used commonly in conversational English (ie: kawaii, mi amor, je ne sais quoi), then this is okay. It is also okay to use the foreign language word to describe a certain type of item that is also regularly called that in English (ie: onigiri, pate de choux, carne asada, hanbok).

However, using foreign language when there is a clear English alternative is not allowed. Final approval on any foreign language in a CW submission is up to the discretion of staff.

The wording of this rule sounds like it's specifically talking about the CW name and description. Is there a policy on foreign language in the CW itself? For instance this Not to call out the owner of these, just wondering if this type of thing is still allowed or if these were grandfathered in.

I have a question about items tributing the same thing: I have a CW currently submitted by an artist I commissioned tributing a shiny Pokemon. The artist gave me the confidence to try and make my own CW (something I had been too scared to do before). This would be referencing the same Pokemon (because you can never have too many tributes of an absolute cutie Pokemon) and some changes would be slightly similar in concept (similar types of changes but the changes are done differently). Is this allowed or is it too similar?

SPOILER (click to toggle) They will have totally different looks and fit differently with different outfits I have in mind, which is partly why I want to do this as well, but also I finally feel confident enough to try this again!

I also plan on asking the artist if it's alright but I figured I'd check with rules first.

That item is 7+ years old, so it's not really a perfect example - but in that case, the symbol on it (ai, 愛) is a pretty commonly used kanji in tons of things. I', assuming that's how it was accepted. But it's the sort of thing that would really be on a case-by-case basis.

I'm going to be 100% honest... I really have no idea what you're asking. However, I can tell you that we can't give any sort of pre-approval or advice without seeing an item in the queue.

sorry, I was basically asking if 2 tribute items to the same tribute that have similar but not identical changes can be released by the same person?

Hello everyone! Just a friendly reminder - when you submit a CW and you include a reference image, please tell us what the image is FROM! So don't just send an image of someone from say, Genshin Impact (which I don't play and wouldn't recognize); also tell us it's from Genshin Impact. This helps out a lot :) Thank you!

If I am commissioning a wearable (a unicorn horn, and unicorn horn+hairstyle in this case) that is for an OC of mine, and I have permission from the artist that drew her for me to use their artwork as a reference, do I still need to make four changes? How do OC-related items work? I know it says I cannot use an original artwork as a reference, but this one was made specifically for me, and I have the artist's permission to use it.

Oh I'm so sorry - I completely missed the ping! But I think you submitted these items already :) Using art made FOR you as a reference is completely different than just grabbing random art from the internet to use!

Hello everyone! This is happening a lot again, so I wanted to send a friendly reminder. You need to include references with your CW submissions. If you used a photo, or you got the idea from a magazine or clothing website, or ANYTHING like that, you need to include it. If you 100% truly used no references, you should state this in your initial submission (we don&;t necessarily need it for recolors). We need to have this information to properly look at, critique, and accept your CW. Not including any reference information at all will result in a delay as we often have to deny the CW to get this information before we can proceed. Again, if you drew it 100% from your own inspiration, just include that in your submission notes!

Hey there, I noticed that you wrote this a while ago and I'm not sure if you know but this is actually not anywhere on the official submissions page at all as of August 2023 and the submission page and rules give a definite impression that only tribute items need references, so this is probably why it keeps happening. I imagine this is frustrating as all get-out for the reviewers, and confusing for customers who get told otherwise after submitting too cuz' it's literally just not there.

Would users opening a ticket or thread in the bugs and problems section about it help this get this updated sooner for you? I work in customer service so I know way too well how this kind of stuff ends up on a back burner when there are other issues going on. 😅

You also wrote in your last denial to me that cancelling items then resubmitting them (Say, if you noticed a stray pixel and wanted to fix it before it even gets looked at.) causes notes from whoever saw the item first to go missing, but the pending submissions page only says stuff can be cancelled anytime and lets you do it. I'm sorry to hear it and this must be an equally big headache that we users have no idea is happening. I can definitely include this in the ticket too if it would help!

I do not need a ticket for this.

As far as the first comment goes - people have always had to include references. Tribute items are the ones that need lists of changes. The problem is, though, is if you submit something with absolutely NOTHING listed, how do we know if it's a tribute? We don't. I can look at updating that page if and when I have someone who can help me do it, but it's not really anything 'new'.

The system lets you cancel a CW any time because you can certainly change your mind. However, it is really frustrating for us when things get pulled and resubmitted for no discerning reason. A lot of people will leave a note saying "Sorry about resubmitting, I realized I had to fix (blank)". However, people have also been known to pull and resubmit JUST to try and get their item through the queue faster (which doesn't work). If it looks like items are just pulled and resubmitted for no reason, then yes, it definitely creates frustration for us. It's very helpful when we know the reason why this may have happened. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but it IS something we do mention when it seems to be happening for no reason (and there have been times we've discussed it directly with repeat offenders).

Hi Jessi, I apologize if my response came across as not believing you as that was not my intention, I'm just saying that it is currently not on any of the following pages as a listed official rule or part of the submission process where it would do the most heavy lifting in making sure it actually happens, only the option to mark something as a tribute:

https://new.subeta.net/cws/help/rules ^ Here it only specifically says "You must provide a reference image to the item you are creating" as a bullet point for rule 9 which is specifically about tribute items. Otherwise, providing them is not mentioned. https://new.subeta.net/cws/create https://new.subeta.net/cws/help/intro

It would also do a lot of good to have it on the first page in this thread: https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/867941/The-Official-Illustrated-Guide-to-CW-Denials References are only listed in reference to tribute items: "All tributes must be identified with references and changes provided in the notes section upon submission."

This came up recently (not in relation to custom wearables, but something else on the site) and I felt the need to come clarify this immediately here. I will be adding this to the official rules as soon as I can.

AI art in ANY form is not acceptable for any part of a custom wearable, including the item and the overlay. Any user found to be submitting custom wearables that contain AI art will be immediately banned from the custom wearable system and issued an official warning.

There are numerous reasons why we are against AI art, but the two main ones are:

 1. AI must pull its images and references from somewhere. AI art relies entirely on the pirated works of others, from illustrators to photographers. AI does not look at a prompt and magically create its own art, and it doesn't look at art as a reference and create its own.

 2. Subeta has always prided itself on its art quality and originality, from both our staff artists and our users. AI art removes the need for the creative process - one of the most important and vital parts of being an artist. AI art cheapens the talent and the years of hard work that artists put in to refine their skills. Anyone can type a prompt in, push a button, and let a computer do its work for them. This is not what being an artist is about.

We will continue to both value and respect artists and the work they put into each and every drawing they make. AI art has no place on Subeta.
