My best memory: I don't know. I have memories who are great per memory.
Anyway: Happy birthday Subeta. :D
I don't have any one favorite memory, but a warm fuzzy feeling in general. It's like Howl's Moving Castle and the Tardis in here, everything is bigger on the inside and you never know where the site is going to go, it's always full of surprises but never loses sight of where it started. It's been comforting and supportive through good times and bad.
I came to Subeta from Neopets about 14.5 years ago--I had a RP buddy who introduced me to the site and recommended it because of the art and more open community. (And the fact that you got FIVE WHOLE PETS instead of four on Neo lol.) She ended up gifting me one of her pets, who I still have today: Daniel
Subeta meant a lot to me at the time for reasons I wasn't like, actively aware of. But back then on Neo, I knew that any queer pets were an explicit no-no and couldn't openly have gay characters. I remember getting around it by just heavily implying that they had same-gender partners, but I was still paranoid about getting caught. When I first made a Subeta account, my very first pet was openly and proudly gay. And it was OK!! Like I didn't have to worry that I was going to lose my account because of a homophobic site policy. It was legitimately very freeing.
As a young gay and trans kid, Subeta helped me express queer ID though my characters here before I was even aware of my own queerness. I think that being able to express my thoughts/emotions/passions through my OCs here in a public way on a supportive site ended up helping me realize what was going on for me personally. Today, I still use Subeta as a creative outlet--having got a boatload of sP to take on the projects I want to complete.
So, needless to say, I'm really grateful that a site like Subeta exists where marginalized folks can express ourselves, knowing the community is pretty supportive.
In the future, I want Subeta to grow and become more active. I'd love to see more people use the site as a way to create and share ideas, or even just to spend time battling, making sP, etc. The amount of things you can do here kind of astounds me when I think about it for a minute, and it's been a wild ride to see the site grow and change through the years.
Anyway. Here's to 16 years, and many more!
I can't believe it's been so long... in less than 2 weeks from today will be my 12th year here on Subeta! Ironically, I almost quit my first day joining... and for such a silly reason! Here's my tale about my first day's adventure (sorry, it's a bit long):
Back before you were able to simply transfer a pet without worry to another user, you actually had to place it in the adoption centre and hope that your recipient was fast enough to claim the pet before someone else did. Being my first day, I'd didn't know folks did this sort of thing. When I (as a sparkly newbie) saw a cool looking pet in the AC, I simply clicked to adopt it, and happily cooed over the pet's TC... which was filled to the brim with a lot of items (and I mean over 300 items). I was overjoyed and was working on what to write as a story for this pet when I suddenly got a frantic SMail asking if I could "please return" the pet... it was meant to go to another person.
At first I thought someone had figured out what my new pet had in it's TC and was trying to now scam me out of the pet for it's items. Sadly I'd read in the forums about a few bad apples who actually would do to this, and assumed this was one of those types of players. At first I ignored the mail, but they kept writing. Something felt different and more, well,... honest about the mails. They were kind, and polite, and much more literate than something a scammer might write. So I wrote back and inquired about the pet. We began chatting back & forth working out how to get the pet back.
I did get a few nasty mails during our discussion from someone else (who wasn't even part of the trades) and I got very upset... I assumed this was a friend of the original pet owner and couldn't understand why she was being nice, yet this other person was so very nasty to me. To be honest I didn't care about the items, or even they type of pet... I was just sad to think someone was trying to be sneaky. Finally, I just thought "to heck with it", sent a note to the person who was supposed to get the pet and we worked out so they were able to catch it this time.
I was actually deciding to leave Subeta, especially after yet another unrelated person wrote me another nasty mail about how "greedy" I was being... even though I'd returned the pet already. Before I clicked the logout, I saw another note appear in my mail. I almost didn't open it thinking it was yet another nasty note... but I saw it was from the original sender.
She wanted to thank me for being kind and returning the pet... and had another pet that I could have if I so desired. Although I was still upset over the nasty notes (I still thought they were from people she was friends with... turns out they weren't), I was polite to her and accepted. We then worked a quick "grab" time and I was lucky to get the new pet. When I checked him out I found to my surprise this pet also had an immense collection of trinkets in his TC. I was so shocked! This was my gift for "being nice" and giving back a pet :)
The three of us (the original pet owner and the lady who the first pet was supposed to go to) all managed to become good friends after that, and happily chatted for years. Sadly both of them have now faded from Subeta, although their pets are still in the "inactive account" limbo.
I also had stopped playing for a little while, mainly due to my health being poor, but I returned as I missed the site. I still have that original pet to this day, and have even added many more to his TC since. I've met some pretty cool people over the years, and am happy to say I'll be on this site as long as it is up & running :)
My only wish is that I'd love to see a Meetup come to my city someday. Sadly the closest one that was last scheduled in Canada would have been a 4 day drive away! No way would I have been able to get to it... I hadn't the money to do so. I do hope one comes again as I'd love to meet some of the folks who play on here in person (facemask to facemask lol)!
Happy Birthday, Subeta!!
My favorite memories: I loved participating in the Valentine's Day event. I loved dancing with Dalice and PinkSapphire. I loved adopting my pets: Ace and Sarah. I loved creating my pet: James.
Thank you so much for taking care and always updating the game. Thanks for listening Bye

I haven't been active on this site for so long, but I will never deny that Subeta gave me lasting, impactful, and lifelong friendships. A lot of interesting things in my life have happened because of Subeta when I really think about it???
Without the site, I never would have met , who has been my ride or die for some 7 or 8 years now.
I never would have met , who, although we don't talk so much anymore, has always given me so much love and support and shares a love for vanilla bean frappes.
The site also gave me my friendship with . We drifted apart, but rekindled our friendship when we learned we were studying the same thing and planned on going into the same industry. Now we both have Real Jobs (tm) and I think we're equally excited to see what cool stuff the other is doing. I never would have met my old roommates without her, so thanks for giving me a place to live in SF, Zi - and by extension, Subeta. :')
I also more recently met a little over a year ago through Press Start (a year and a half ago now?). Now we play games together almost every night, and through her, I met so many other wonderful friends that I absolutely cherish. <3
Happy birthday, Subeta!!!
I think one of my favorite memories is the Cruise from several many years ago. Honestly I just enjoyed everything about it so much, going port to port and learning about each area.
I am not an active user ( bc language barrier )but my fave memories when i joined with NVLB group and the great pandemic and our group activities.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know I already wrote a memory several pages back, but there's another one that I often think about and wanted to acknowledge :)
It was when the Friendly Thursday Batista Challenger came out. And I was apparently the first one to unlock this luck-themed challenger and a staff member had to comment on that:
I have lots of memories over my 14,6+ years playing here. ^o^v
I remember the time too as subeta was hacked (as mentioned here) and the donation center was filled with I guess 30-60 s. I was confused and happy at the same time, I mean lots of very, very expensive weapons were in the dc back at this day. But in place of to grab of one of these, reason tells me don't touch it. I read the news and remember the page change due to this bad thing what was happen. At the end, I was vending the 2x over the last 8 or 10 years and I always sold the weapon for CSC. >O<"
This brings me to the subject of the legendary weapon. I loved the legendary weapons and I really like the designs. and are my favourites. I like the item icon of them very much and can't get enough of seeing both. °^°
Also mentioned by when the dc was the free shop. I remember very well as you was able to see in the first years which items was donating to the dc. I found lots of wonderful things and hoards much more. >o< And some years later, I remember when the donated items by subetateam was hidden by the parcel icon we know from the free shop.
I still know the old holiday shop where you was able to buy items during seasonal events. Oh, and that the old restocking shops from very very very long ago was having building icons and looking like the item series. Each shop with his own design. I wish the restocking shops would had back their old looks but in a new design. I never liked the designs the restocking shops had now and I hoping for a re-design. Someday. °___° By the way, I'm pretty sure the restocking shops was having a full artwork like the other regions of subeta had for years. Unless I am mistaken.
Does anyone remember the Centropolis Green Project (Vesnali 2012)? Where we was able to plant bulbs? This here I really loved this idea and hoping for a new or same project like this in the future. I know, it was short and the place was very fast planted with nice flowers, but I was having a lot of fun. And it was a new and creative idea.
Mhm. I think I have to make a pause. To much memories in my head. laugh
Belated birthday wishes subeta and team. ^o^ I hope the site is still running when I turned 80 in 48 years.

OMG I forgot the Riptides were in there! I never got one, but I did get an Ether! I've never managed to vend a Riptide... do they still pop out of OD? Remember the Longcat debacle? When they were threatened with a lawsuit for copyright infringement and they had to re-do it and call it
And yes, I remember the Centropolis Green Project! I'd love for them to bring that back too!
I always hoped they were going to bring back a shop map. I miss the holiday shop too. :( waits impatiently for Freyalise to sail in because that's the closest thing we have to that shop
Hi
Yes, the Riptide can be vend from OD. I always put it in my wardrobe for months (and mark it in my subetalodge account) and later, when I check the Wanted subforum and someone is looking for this weapon, I sold it (and remove it from my subetalodge account). >o<
Yup, I remember the item. I was grab lots of these from the dc. But didn't know the exact number - something between 50-100+ maybe? It was later a very expensive item and I was so happy to hoard lots of them and gifting it randomly.
So happy to read that your looking for a shop map too. I'am not alone, that's good. ^-^ Thank you.

I met one of my now closest friends here on Subeta. We still talk all the time, even if neither of us are very active here anymore. I have fond memories of plots, role-playing, and making friends. The memories keep me coming back, even if I don't have much time to devote here.
I can't believe I forgot to mention the Longcat debacle. In a nutshell, it happened because some unpleasant folks on 4chan thought that they "owned" the Longcat meme, and accused Subeta of "selling" the Longcat item here for real cash because I suppose they thought it was easier to obtain if you had a gold account. So, they attacked Subeta through raids and DDOS attacks. That backstory brings me to my next theory:
I am 10000% convinced that the fact that Subeta survived the raids changed memes forever on the internet. Shortly after it happened, Gaia Online released actual real-money items based on Longcat (and other memes iirc) since the staff probably figured, hey, if this comparatively small pet site can survive raids and DDOS attacks, we can get away with actually selling items, too.
After that happened, there was kind of this boom in merch with memes on it being sold, and the people doing raids probably realized there was nothing they could do to prevent widespread jokes from becoming monetized. By the time I was in high school, they were selling trollface notebooks at Walmart.
That whole situation bothered me SO much in middle school. It was super upsetting to see my favorite site just get absolutely trashed lol. I ranted to my parents about it, and my dad made fun of me by talking about how awesome 4chan was. Of course, he never actually visited the site, but it still got me riled up.
Hopes/Dreams That the site endures and considers development of an app to accompany the site and change with the times. Things are moving more and more mobile and I'd hate to see subeta left behind completely D:
Memories oh Falling in love with the remarkable who I respect and care for to this day. That portion of my life, started here on Subeta, is one I cherish. I’m grateful for those memories and for the people who made them with me. Thank you to every friend I’ve known whether we still talk or no. You’re in my heart and I hope that life is treating you well.
Pings of luff
Ack too many to ping hopefully the other fabulous people see this anyway <3
They/ThemI met my 2 best friends on here.
I've been on Subeta for more than half my life, insane.
I admit I haven't made many "Subeta" friends but have managed to drag some of my RL friends onto the website, who I still see occasionally (heyoo !).
I'm glad it has been here the whole time. I've played on and off with various amounts of activity, and I love seeing some familiar names around. It's particularly comforting knowing it has been here during COVID19.
I really appreciate the staff and the users for making the site what it is.
One memory I've been thinking about lately: Back when numbers of pets created was posted on the main page I remember stalking the numbers to make a pet with the ID number of 7000, haha. I still have that pet Enna.
