The only time I really notice improvements is during the holidays, otherwise Subeta tends to feel the same aside from a few hiccups here and there. This year, Survival only had two big meltdowns, and that's an big improvement over lag during the entire holiday.
But I still agree. The pride flag belts didn't need the sort of reception that they got, and neither did Neugarten. It was easy enough to just ignore comments and decide if you were going to spend money on those things or not. People blowing things out of proportion though is definitely not just a Subeta thing. D:
yeah the pride sash stuff was honestly an embarrassment. I know it isnt a subeta specific only gripe i have, but its like... subeta has 2k active users, and less than 20 staff, the amount of strain theyre under with user demand is probably skewed to different sites, you know? plus, with people being able to say whatever they want offsite to skirt on site rules, everything just feel so.... eugh.
bug fixes are pushed out as quickly as possible, tickets are handled quickly, we even got a discord that had staff updating in real time(!!!) this survival which i think is wonderful! yet people still complain, its just disheartening for me, i can't imagine how the staff feel, tbh.
To once again echo , it is honestly a tragedy that the staff don't get more love. People are so obsessed with complaining the moment anything - even something minor - goes wrong that they never think to mention when things are going right. People just expect the site to run perfectly smoothly by itself without realising that you can't have a site as big and complex as Subeta with literal daily updates and a regular cycle of events without running into some hiccups along the way. The fact the site runs smoothly most of the time is a testament to how hard the staff work every single day, and as somebody who has worked with coding before (albeit fairly limited and nothing at all to the degree of coding a website) the simple fact of the matter is that things don't always work.
Miss a bracket here, forget to type a dot there, and suddenly your whole code runs into errors and you can spend literal hours digging through lines of numbers and symbols just to pinpoint the one bit that isn't working properly. And even when everything flows smoothly there's no way to know that it won't interact strangely with another part of the site code or that there might be some weird, unexpected loophole in it that means needing to go back to the drawing board.
Staff needs more love and more understanding, especially the folks working on the code. They do so much work behind the scenes that goes unnoticed because that's the whole point! But as a side effect, it also goes unappreciated, and I can't imagine how hurtful it must be to bust your ass making sure the site runs 90% of the time only to get hauled over the coals because it has issues for 10% of the time.

I totally get your feelings. It is unfair to compare Subeta to sites or apps that make millions and can afford to have a giant teams of people to do things all the time when we just seem to have Bug and Keith handling most of the heavy duty coding. I could say more but I feel like it might be a bit off topic.
I'm sure they have things to say offsite (I know I complain bout people at work to other people all the time) but it is honestly impressive how they stay cool in the face of confrontational people. It's impressive that we can tickets resolved in like, a week if things get complicated or busy with the amount of staff they have. I think it's the same three people answering my tickets.
I remember you talking about this in a previous year. I think there is no need to take a programming mechanism for distributing game currency so literally. We bite each other during Survival too... what about video game PVP where avatars 'kill' each other? Not trying to start an argument hopefully, just curious about your point of view
Of course you are meaning to start an argument , because: this thread is for unpopular positions, so of course some users won't like it. But you are not following the spirit of the thread to respond in the way you do, and especially not by pinging me since you remember last year and my strongly held opinions on the matter.
Last year nobody took me seriously, so I'm not expecting anyone to this time either. Just because they didn't doesn't mean they aren't wrong
If someone in RL kisses someone RL repulsive for RL money and no other reason, it's sex work. If someone in virtual Subeta kisses someone who in virtual Subeta is repulsive for virtual Subeta money and no other reason, it is morally exactly the same. It's virtual sex work.
FPS shooter game players choose to play that game. Not everybody needs to enjoy everything about any Subetan holiday so just because "others do it" doesn't make it right or enjoyable to those who don't like it. I don't choose to do kissing if I can at all help it. I buy Candy Hearts. I bought twelve thousand this year since the price dropped nicely, it should hold me for a good long time.
Actually no, nobody fucking bites me. I'm allowed to opt out of that entirely. I am not allowed to opt-out of being virtually kissed by virtually disgusting cannibalistic disease vectors. If they know the sCode, it's smooches time. So it's a little virtual Subeta rapey too.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't see game activities as equivalent to real life actions. Was just wondering about your reasoning. I apologize for offending you.
My opinion that will probably be unpopular: it's creepy the way that Oslyae is sexualised.
Not even so much the image -- that's pretty tame for most anthro art -- but the text during battle.
Admittedly I'm so these things ping my "do not want" radar when most likely they wouldn't register for most people...

oh yeah not even an opinion but i deadass thought oslyae was a guy until i was like 16 lmao
I'M NOT SURE HOW I MISSED HER CHEST BUT SOMEHOW I DID FOR YEARS and also never read the battle text once in my life
That's kind of life, unfortunately. Service industries such as restaurants and retail actually have to work overtime, sometimes bend over backwards, to please the people they serve because the tendency is to complain about the bad things and not say one word if things go right. I'm not excusing it or saying that it's the way things should be; I'm just saying it's not unique to Subeta.
We could brainstorm ways to change this. There are suggestion and bug forums, but there really isn't a place to talk about good things. (Is there? If there is, I've missed it. There's the bragging and complaining forum, but I think bragging is more about your own accomplishments, plus that's half a forum compared to two and half of negative or constructive feedback.) It's harder to give positive feedback, especially publicly. People like myself tend to like to give anonymous or quiet thanks.
Site Feedback is one option, and we do get positive feedback threads there from time to time :)
It's not that we need a lot of pats-on-the-back though. Constructive negative feedback has helped Subeta grow so much over the years, and I know we appreciate the users who care about the website enough to give it. If I could speak frankly, I think I'd just like to see less sarcastic remarks when things go wrong, but I understand that it happens when people get frustrated.
That's interesting. Why do you find it harder to give positive feedback? Personally I find it much more anxiety-inducing if I need to say something negative, because I'm afraid of sounding rude or offending someone.
(That's not meant to say you shouldn't feel that way though. Totally fine for different people to feel comfortable with different things! I'm just curious to understand your point-of-view.)

I'm glad there's positive site feedback! :) And I agree, constructive criticism, and the fact that staff is so responsive to it, has really made Subeta a great place. And a constantly evolving for the better place.
In my experience, some people respond to positive compliments in two negative ways:
A) "It's actually about you, and you're trying to be high and mighty and make yourself look good by praising someone else. Stop virtue-signalling and get back in the mud and complain with the rest of us."
B) "Oh I do not deserve the praise which thou givest me. I am not worthy. I am actually the scum of the earth."
The anticipation of both responses makes me want to avoid them completely! Meanwhile, if I give a gift anonymously, I can hopefully bring joy to someone else's life and also make myself happy. No external drama necessary.
I've always had a soft spot for the lag and errors over the years. It' a bit weird, but they've always made the site feel more human rather than being some faceless behemoth. They show that Subeta is a complex, fallible thing, and I've always appreciated that it's not perfect.
also Re: Minion Zoo, I don't care that it does nothing. It could be abandoned for the rest of all time and I'd be happy, because it existing means I don't have to use up one of my shop/gallery slots for my minion collection.
I know that people really want the Tea House released, but I would rather wait until it's completed before it was rolled out. Not be incomplete like the Minion Zoo was. To me, this feature should've ever been rolled out until it was finished.
I don't care for the Battle part of it, but they could add a place that says Add To Minion Zoo whenever you buy a minion. Some users don't understand that its been 5 years and nothing. Not a peep from staff. I don't think users want to get the Tea House and have the same problems.
It would be nice though if staff update us and let us know that "Sorry, but we've put X and Y on the back burner for now, and are focusing on Z for whatever reason. Maybe its because they don't currently have someone on hand to work on those features.
I also think some players don't fully understand the reason others get upset because of something not being rolled out. It's because of what Neopets pulled with its promise of Neoschools and games like Wajas and Ladders that were supposed to come out soon.
So imagine how upset many of us were when found out years later this was never going to happen. And they didn't tell us in a news post. They posted it on a grave with Neoschools on it. I think a lot of players would feel better if they got at some kind of update about these features.
Like a good neighbor, stay over there!

I agree with everything said about CW's
I like them, don't get me wrong. But finding out something exists long after there was a chance to have them, or having to pay for a slot AND the item itself when it becomes available.
Im not social enough to be in any cliques, so I wouldn't even know where to insert myself into all of it. Id rather shop and browse
Main Cosplays: Harley Quinn, Captain Marvel, Elsa, Mera, & American Dream
i feel as though your message is directed at me, so i'll go ahead and say this.
staff have a lot on their plate. a lot that we dont know about. QoL updates far outweight minion zoo and whatever feature are promised. i think we should concentrate more on having a stable site than implementing features but having the site breaking down every few moments.
you can also always ...ask staff, in tickets or what not, rather than passive aggressively doing what you're doing on here, because it is evident that staff are reading our posts, and your tone comes off a bit snarky, if i'm being honest.
but hey, this is a board about opinions, but opinion =/= passive aggression. subeta is constantly evolving and changing, and what seemed to be a good idea might not stand up to new code changes. things like this happen, but with how people react i dont think it gives staff much incentive to follow through if people are being ... blatantly childish. looking at the age poll, the core userbase of subeta is now 20-30 year olds, we should all be able to exercise some patience and understand that, while this is their job, staff cannot magically pull things out of thin air, and things take time; rushed implementation, as you pointed out, results in frustration on both ends of the line.
however, having the loom of 'when is x going to come out' must be hard to read over and over for staff, like a broken megaphone. do you get where i'm coming from?
adding to your statement about neopets, which is a much bigger company than subeta, it is understandable to get upset over neopets not rolling out a feature on a scheduled date, but subeta is small and has a small but tight nit userbase. we need to realize that we aren't dealing with a huge company here, just a 14 year olds website thats flourishing. coding takes time, patience, and a lot of trial and error. there has already been complains about some BUTTONS implemented for the upcoming masquerade, so much that it was reverted.
While it's fair to be upset about wanting a feature to come out, a lot of users seem to use that as an excuse to rag on the staff and complain, even when the thing they're complaining about has nothing to do with it. The Tea House in particular constantly gets brought up in complaint posts directed at the staff. Like "Sites laggy again, wow, why can't staff get it together, we don't even have the Tea House yet!!!" And so on.
As for being concerned that planned features have just been "abandoned" for whatever reason, I feel it's short-sighted to compare Subeta to other pet sites in that regard. The people running things like Neopets or Flight Rising or whatever are not the people running Subeta, just because somebody managed a different site poorly is no indication that the Subeta staff will follow suite. I feel that if the Tea House was ever going to be cancelled or something, we'd hear about it.
Let's not forget that we're currently right in the middle of the holiday season. Starting last October-ish, we've had Morostide, Fireside, Luminaire and Survival all back to back, with Masquerade coming up very soon. All of these things requiring new code, new art assets, new writing, and various other backend work that's being spread across a very small team. That's including all the daily, weekly and monthly updates that we get like pet spotlights, monthly bundles, seasonal changes, ect... All of that stuff needs to be overseen or actively created on a regular basis.
That means that there's not a lot of time left over for people to work on planned features, keeping the site running and constantly updating takes priority over working on stuff that isn't part of it yet, so it takes time. If they had a bigger team to work with then perhaps the slow progress would be a more valid thing to complain about. But currently, with the team they have and the amount of work that the userbase just expects them to automatically do every day? New features are going to take time and patience.

-I don't feel that someone who has not either coded the profile, written the story, or done the art for their pet should win the spotlight. If all they do is physically have the pet on their account but didn't do a single part of making the pet, why should they win? You gotta do at least one creative element.
-I do not like alegarten.
-I HATE when the response to literally every. single. freaking. new color idea in the suggestions forum is met with 'just get an overlay'. It is tired and lame. You could apply that to EVERY pet we have now. Why have glade? Could have just commissioned someone to put flowers on your pet. Why have galactic? Just draw your pet in space, etc... It stifles creativity. Overlays are great if you want your pet to have a copyrighted look, like if you want them to be like Batman or something, or just have a minor modification, like removing fangs on a telenine.
Did someone mention the tea house?
My thought on it is that I'm not too bothered about how long it takes, what I'm more bothered about is the fact that it's pushing back the Garden revamp and Lower West Side map because those got less votes. I think that the staff should have either ignored the vote and decided to release the other two instead of keeping us waiting, or they should release all three at once when the tea house is finally done. Because the Lower West Side REALLY needs a map, but it came last in the voting, and the delays in the tea house is only making me more impatient about it getting one.
