I made this thread for people to share their unpopular opinions about Subeta. It could be to do with certain pets and colours, it could be to do with certain site features. Just anything that the majority of people like that you either don't like or think could be improved. Please be nice, though!!! Please don't just say "I hate (Pet or feature or character)", if you're going to, at least explain why. Try to keep it as friendly as possible to try not to offend those who disagree. If you don't like something, it's always good to say what would make you like it more.

My unpopular opinion is that I'm not as big as fan of the Blob pet as everyone else is. I mean, I love how creative the colours are, and I want to like them, but I feel that they're stealing the spotlight and attention from other pets who need new colours. The Scootle, who was introduced not long after the Blob was (As a pet, not am experiment like it used to be), only has one redraw colour so far, and it took many months to get it. Meanwhile, technically all of the Blob's colours are redraw colours (Again, it's very creative, I'll admit that), but I still feel like it's getting more actual redraw colours at the moment than other pets, especially Scootles. And it could be ages before Urubus get redraw colours as well. What I'm saying is, I would like them more if I didn't feel that they stole attention from other pets. It's why I'm glad the new Sweetheart pets this year so far were older pets that hadn't yet been available in that colour. I hope we get another new Graveyard pet soon.

Other unpopular opinions of mine include me not really taking part in Alegarten/Neugarten (It just doesn't grab my attention as much as the other events, though maybe it's just because I haven't actually tried it, is there any more to it besides buying from shops?) and not liking most of the gross food items because of how much they can make me gag (I'm not asking for them to be removed, some people find them useful for various reasons). I'm sure there are many people who don't like Survival because of the body horror that can happen (It can be quite scary sometimes, though it can easily be hidden most of the time.

Anyway, like I said, please try to be nice about it if you have any unpopular opinions.

I'm not a fan of the new pig/hog based pet we got.

There is just something about it that bothers me, but that is my personal hold up. I have nothing against the art or anyone who likes it. It is just one of those species that just isn't for me.

Also not a fan of gross food either. Just don't like them at all. If I get some from a quest I will just frag the item and move on. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.

Kinda playing off what the OP said about the blobs, scootles and urubus;

Some places are speculating that perhaps some chatter about the upcoming Masquerade will have a new pet color but it's apparently an unpopular opinion that before releasing any new species or colors a) all existing pets should be available in all existing colors, b) upon release a new species it should be available in all existing colors/when a new color is released it should be available for all existing pets and c) new pet species should come with their respective elixirs right off the bat. I would honestly be willing to wait on a new color or species if it meant it came out all at once, all current pets had their respective elixirs, and all current pets were available in all current colors.

Like yeah, I do think it's a shame that all the blob colors have been technically redraws while the scootle only has the one, and there are some older species that are still missing some colors because they were only released in basic. I understand the staff is small, limited and not getting paid much/at all for any of this and they want to try to balance releasing new species/colors to keep people excited but at this point it just feels like it's all over the place in that respect and it's difficult to enjoy a new species when I know it'll take forever to get the elixirs and redraws or a new color when I know it'll take forever for it to cover all the species, you know?

i don't like the scootle either and while i LIKE the urubu i wish we got more colours for pre-existing pets rather than new species q v q

I'm in the same boat with disliking the Blob immensely; I just don't bother saying so on the news posts among the hundreds of 'I LOVE THIS; SO CUTE, GREAT, etc.', or whatever. I agree with the general creativeness that the Blob provides with pet colors, but come on. I want to see the other pets get their day in the spotlight. Almost every single time there's a specific pet color associated with a holiday, I almost always expect to see the Blob up there (if they don't have that color already), instead of a pet that hasn't been touched in forever, whether it be a color they already have, or a revamp they so desperately need (though with how I see a lot of revamps go on here, user reaction has not always been kind in response to one). Plus, I am still rather 'salty' I suppose, that the experiment I wanted to win when we all voted didn't win because of the Blob. But regardless, I'm just tired of seeing it all the time.

When it comes to the Scootle and the Urubu, I'll hold my opinions until I see more colors of them (but who knows when that will be, ha ha).

It seems my unpopular opinion on this thread would be that I actually do like blobs. However, I do find it annoying that they do not work well with the headshot mechanism and you're lucky if you can get both of their eyes in the shot, let alone something significant about their bodies.

My unpopular opinion in general would be this: the pet spotlight is meaningless.

I appreciate that some people work really hard on their stories, coding, and art, and I do think they deserve a reward or some sort of recognition for this. However, the pet spotlight falls short in several ways:

• The Trophy - The trophy goes with the pet and not the person. This makes sense on one level; however, the trophy remains with the pet even if everything about them - name, coding, appearance, even owner - changes. Does that pet still deserve a trophy? Should the fact that that pet already has a trophy prevent another owner of the same pet from winning the pet spotlight again? I think no to both those questions.
• The Frequency - Pet spotlights occur every single night, even on the weekends. While this allows for more people to deservingly be recognized, it makes it mundane and imho boring. I rarely go to a pet's page for a spotlight, and when I do, I rarely look at everything. It's just so common an occurence that it doesn't catch my attention often.
• The Decision Process - I'm not quite clear about how this works, so please correct me if I have this wrong, but it seems like it's a popularity/hawking contest (nomination), followed by a brief glimpse to make sure it follows all the rules, and then a holding pattern until its turn in the spotlight. There isn't much of a, "Yes, you deserve this because you're story/overlay/coding/art is phenomenal and everyone should see it." It's more like, "Welp, other people liked you, so why not."
• The Farming Out - If you need help with coding/storywriting/art/whathaveyou, I can understand that. No one is good at everything. And if someone wins the spotlight and one of these categories is not their own work, but everything else is, then that's fine. But if User A wins the spotlight, but User B did the coding, User C did the overlay, User D did the art, and User E wrote the story - what recognition does User A deserve, exactly? The "vision" to put it all together? I'm not saying this shouldn't be done - do it, by all means - I'm just saying I don't think it deserves a spotlight.

Yes! There was some information over here about how the judging for the spotlight works and you're not too far off from what I understand as well. The fact that I could be waiting 2 or more years for a spotlight win and then less than a dozen people are likely to comment unless it's a super well known pet which means even after all that there's not a lot of recognition. Plus I'm not sure if it's a thing but it seems like it'd be super easy to get approved and get in the queue and then change the pet around/give it to someone else/ect unless there's a mechanic to prevent that but then given that you could have to wait literal years to win that's also kinda not nice.

So yeah I agree, the spotlight is just a giant popularity contest with spotty judging and a lot of RNG that's just no longer special.

I'm also inclined to agree that if the vast majority/none of the work is your own you shouldn't win. I can't draw or code and I'm not that great of a writer so if I was going for the spotlight I'd probably pay for a profile, an overlay and some art to stick in the profile, and someone to write the stories better but then outside of the pet concept what's really mine anymore? I think that kind of stuff takes away from the people who do work super hard to improve their skills and favors those who have the csc/sp to pay for someone else to do the vast majority of the work for them which I'm not fond of :/

Not sure why you (generic you) think not liking the blob is an unpopular opinion? Sure, some people like it or like the one form that it takes for one color, but there were a lot of people upset over the squid not winning and, instead, a basic nothing experiment getting the most sP. In fact, the results were pretty close for 1st and 2nd:

3. 302,100,000 People were MAD. You're not some tiny minority of users if you don't like it. I'm not too fond of the latest one being basically a rock diglett and I really like blobs. I just like them when they're blobby :P Not only that, the blob getting a new color isn't taking away from other pets; there are different artists for different pets. There just happens to be blobs &... 70~80 other pets that also exist. And, (pretty sure) some of those other guys don't have active artist anymore, which is why we haven't see any new... this thing that you like or that thing that needs updating in a while.

So. Yeah. Let's see... (provided I did not count wrong, it's something like) 75 basic pets with 35 color options (of course, some just being palette swaps).

• 44 zapper pets that can be 3 color options... OH NO?! [sub]I am not doing that math. ha.[/sub]

Honestly, there's probably too many pets on this site to warrant all of the different ways that they can be. Too many pets on this pet site! :D

Why is there no Sweetheart Montre yet? Louis is obviously one, so they exist...

quietly I want a cherry blossom Blob. It's so soft and cute.

I don't actually know much about how the Pet Spotlight works, but it does seem a bit confusing to me. That thing said about getting content from other people but them not getting anything for it is a good point. Since you have to credit those people anyway, surely that means they should be recognised and get some kind of award for it for helping?

I know there are lots of pets and colours, and I think that what said about how every pet should be available in all the colours before a new one is released is a good point. Sadly, because there are still so many, it could be ages before we get through that, and the staff would probably want to release a new pet or colour to stop us all from getting bored. Also, I'm not really liking how a new pet is released but then forgotten about, it's been over a month and we still don't have the Urubu elixirs!!! Though that might be because of Survival, but maybe they should have thought of that first and released them before Survival started. And yes, I know not all pets can be gotten through elixirs, so if not elixirs for this pet, then some other way of changing them besides the zapper (I don't even know if you can get Urubus from the zapper).

But yes, I feel like the Scootle and Urubu were forgotten about not too long after their release. Meanwhile, the Blob keeps on getting a lot of attention and colours after its release, a new colour every month or so, and that's why it comes off as stealing the spotlight to me.

Also, as a standard unpopular opinion, I'm not very interested in Zasabas. Yes, I think it's good to have an insect pet, and it's a good design, however, I am scared of insects and while this pet doesn't terrify me, it just doesn't appeal to me that much.

I suppose one of mine is that I just don't care about CWs. I don't really get the appeal. There are so many of them, the whole system is overwhelming, and I've never seen anything I absolutely had to have that made the price worth it. There's also a whole culture around them about slot prices and privates and recolours and resale price and all the drama that goes with it, and it's just exhausting. In the end, I don't find any of them worth wanting.

my unpopular opinion is that I find the forums kind of hard to navigate/discuss on. it doesn't really seem like these forums are great for conversation, although I see people conversing here all the time. I'm trying to get used to it but as for now I'm still resistant to posting on the forums. haha

I'm not that into CWs either, mainly because there's loads I'll never get, and I can't be bothered to go to people and ask to buy them anyway. And also I'm a bit shy to do that.

1. I'm pretty irritated with the Blob, although judging from this thread it's not an unpopular opinion. I know that Subeta artists are assigned to certain pets based on their artistic strengths, but every time I see a new special color Blob released, I think to myself, if only that artist had put in time and effort for a pet that desperately needs revamping instead. It's quirky and cute, but why can't we devote more time to fixing outdated artwork? I don't know for sure, but I would bet that some Subeta artists are currently assigned to species that need special pose revamps, so why not work on those? I'm not staff, though, so I don't know what the process is behind deciding what gets drawn and revamped. These are just my feelings based on my observations as an outsider.

2. I really don't care for Survival or Morostide, I'm not into the spooky creepy and gory zombie aesthetics. The only holidays I get remotely excited for are Masquerade and Luminaire. In a lot of ways, I wish we could do something to revitalize Subeta holidays, since a lot of them feel the same to me (kiss/dance/give flower/trick-or-treat to get currency or item, rinse, repeat). Dunno how we could add to the experience already, though.

3. Speaking of holidays, remember that hullabaloo about Neugarten last year, when people were genuinely upset about it being a vegan festival? While I'll admit, though it was a very drastic, surprising change to the expected Alegarten, it was based on the development of Subeta's characters and, to me, definitely did not feel like some kind of Veganism Propaganda. Most of the vegan items were pretty tame, in description and in presentation, and I was blown away by how negatively half the site took everything.

4. Cadogres and Endeavors are the best pets on the site. Robot dragons 4 LIFE

My unpopular opinion about clothes : Why 99.99% of the subeta stuff are just for girls? (dresses, heels, wigs, tons of long wigs , dresses again,purses, tons of makeup ) i know those are pretty, but what happen with the nonbinary ppl and mens? Most of the menswear that I found, well... it's boring.

My unpopular opinion: The lag isn’t that bad.

I mean... the site is slow sometimes don’t get me wrong but there was a time when the site went down every Saturday without fail (or reason) for /hours/ and sql errors were everywhere. The site is so much more stable than it used to be so the odd hour or two of lag doesn’t bother me.

I kinda like the Darkmatter Blob and I actually have a reborn blob. Getting her broke a "rule" I had about not getting more than one of a species.

I agree with you on Neugarten but I don't find Masquerade all that great expect for the HAs. Maybe it's because most of the items don't appeal to me?

Not really crazy about CWs either, except for backgrounds. Many CWs backgrounds are beautiful and unique! I also don't like how you have to spend a certain amount of CSC just to attempt to get them on the site; you could pay 5K CSC on a submission and it could still get denied. Rather spend the CSC on pet slots, angel potions, and maybe some CS items that I like.

I sorta don't like most recent events. Most of them feel underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I WANT events. The original Survival, the Murder Mystery ARM plot, Islanders vs Pirates, were all really good IMO. The latest events were just... meh, do the thing, get the points for me.

And also with - I want real plot, I don't even know what most of those old events/plots were/looked like, but I'd love plots. I keep tuning out and just hurrying things along for the most recent ones like I don't care about their content. :l

• I wish trophies were still a thing. I love 'em! 8D Harkens back to neopets days, probably why. I just prefer them over an achievement count.

• I think subeta should do an interactive plot where we mass vote for NPCs because I used to binge reality tv trash so I'd love to see something like that here (again, I'm thinking of the NPC designers a few years back?? but .. with more options and not necessarily about designs and please lots of options, not 2 sides to choose from, ty o3o)
