I make my sp by restocking, which is another reason I don't like/want to vend. Vending has made it hard for me to earn sp from restocking. I'd like to see vending limited more.
Maybe vending could be revamped to have only a few vending machines that each have a theme (or no themes) and spit out items that are only obtainable from vending. So instead of giving out items that restock in the npc shops, vending machines would only give out items that have been specifically made for vending. Or they can still vend the odd npc item, but make it more likely for them to give out a vending machine-only item. That would get me to vend again.
But weapons do vend from somewhere (Prize Get)? o.o? But either way I get your point about the quests and I'm not saying there shouldn't be a few more quests (for minions, beanbags/plushies, maybe even one for little knick knacks (and other items that are atm ultra cheap)). It's just... questing can get so tedious and boring (and it takes ages each day to do all of them), battling and restocking too. If there are new quests added it might be better if they were spiced up somehow? Although I have no idea how.
I think collectibles should still vend though whether they're asked for by quests or not. Perhaps the main ones (beanbags/plushies/cards) could all vend from the same machine mixed in with some other junk (more so than is already done)? Or something along those lines. So that it limits the percentage of each type of collectible in the total items gotten.
And the wardrobe machines should not be limited in any way because as it is it's the only feasible way to start and have a hope of finishing the filled wardrobe achievement (seriously though fifteen thousand. Maybe if some other easy way to get clothes was made? But restocking is just not that great for it. You'd have to constantly look up what items you have for the common ones which with slow computers could take hours each day and for the rare ones it could take a week or more of hanging around to spot what you need and even then you might not get it (though the current system does make that a bit more favourable).
Just because collections as goals are great, challenging ones are great too, but unattainable goals are just discouraging and turn people away. Which is important not to do since goals are often the reason people play pet sites like this, apart from the social aspect.
Anyway my point is that there needs to be some way to get the main chunks of collections complete which at the moment is vending, so if the vending machines for those are taken away and there isn't something to replace it, it turns the collections from challenging but complete-able to 'please god kill me now'. So if there was an alternate option for getting those items without them/other items getting devalued then the vending machines could be limited to a point where they're not so prominent a part of the site and more of a once every so often type of thing to most players. I totally agree that it's definitely not the best image for the site having something akin to gambling having a pretty big place here. It's just that for me the question is if not vending then what would it be instead?
Alternatively, if you were to remove vending altogether (not a bad idea imo), you can move anything that was vending exclusive to the token shop and blackheart hollow and give them love. The fragmentizer shop would also benefit from getting more attention.
As I mentioned previously, I don't vend unless I'm on a quest because for me, it's such a waste of wiz tokens. I always get stuff that has tanked in price and does not make up for the amount I potentially could have just sold the wiz token for, had I chosen to do that instead. And as others have said, most of the stuff doesn't frag well either, so its a total loss imo.
[edit] After reading through the responses a bit, I agree with adding a new quest giver (or two), especially one that takes collection items and/or minions. There are a ton of beanbags that are just worthless and that's sad considering the time and effort that was put in to even do the art on them in the first place.
Defo retire at least 2 vending machines.
Someplace to get old things that will never be available again (like the pirate/islander war things as one person mentioned).
Change the price if need be.
BHH needs to stock more too, that would be nice. I've yet to be so lucky as to actually see anything there. I gave up a long time ago. Token shop needs permanent things that stock as well, though I see that is being taken care of so A+ to the staff for that.
And I think I've exhausted my brain's capacity for the moment.

There is one. It was there before vending was a thing. It's called restocking.
Aside from rares and super rares, you can get the exact same things you'd get from pushing the little red button in main shops. As for rares and super rares, well, it's in the name. Rares, and super rares.
What makes collections impossible is not the high amount of restockable items. What makes the 15K achievement in the wardrobe hard is also not the r1-r99 items. It's everything that is over that. Meaning, everything that's not vending.
I do restock (it's how I spend 50% of my time on Subeta) and take it from me: it is not a good way to complete the main parts of collections.
[edit] And sure, non restockables are a pretty big and expensive part of the wardrobe! But that doesn't negate the fact that the restockable part of the wardrobe is hard enough as is.
This sound kind of outlandish, but if vending just too simplistic (just clicking a button repeatedly to pump out many items) why not make it into a actual claw crane minigame? That's what the art looks like.
You control the claw, and there's a bunch of random items (maybe even special ones) in the machine to choose from. Move the claw (in 1D or 2D), push the button, and hope it grabs the items and doesn't slip before carrying it out.
Edit: I thought about this some more. Press anywhere to move the claw, then press the claw to attempt to snatch an item. The claw automatically moves back to its starting position each attempt. You need to click twice now, and wait a little while for it to see what happens during the snatch attempt.
No, because it could end up like Balloon Hunt where you get nothing for 3 Wizard Tokens 9 times out of 10. A lot of people are fed with things that rely on luck so we don't want more of them.
You have a good point
However, you do know there's "a play until you win". (And also in real life claw machine are sometimes rigged to increase or decrease chances of winning depending on how many attempts you make. They are actually inspected just like slot machines.)
That would probably be very difficult to code and would still result on luck.
All that's needed is to close some vending machines and sort the others out so we don't get machines duplicating what's given out.
When vending was 4 tokens there was a much better rate of higher rarity items. We definitely need something like this for Blue Sky because the prices of normal and rare books are ridiculous.
Yeah I think it's in theory doable but will need a bit of effort to code.
I like just hammering the button and getting random profitable things, but it generates tons of stuff very quickly. You could put a 5 sec timer, but what's the difference? If you're vending you probably will go for the daily limit anyways.
Blue Sky churn out like one third beanbags. The few books you get are pretty much cheap stuff from Book Nook or like five books worth 100k each. It's ridiculous when Alex asks for them.
From my experience it wasn't. Any item I tried to restock either sit forever, didn't sell that fast at all or the price dropped enough it make it not worth the price I bought it at. So far vending has been the only way I have gotten money.
I'm working on my hoarding achievements
I haven't read through the entire topic, but a couple of things:
A lot of the BHH is already very cheap. I have been lucky enough to grab a few things from there the past few days and the values surprised me across the board - I then checked some BHH items on my wishlist and found many had sunk below 1m, even. Increasing the level it restocks even further isn't going to help get many tokens out even before considering the prices.
Why not reduce the number of tokens going out? I have seen so many people complain about the number of tokens they're holding onto - I personally have 11k - in part this is due to the high supply. Reduce the number the Wizard hands out to 10 per quest and watch the effect trickle down. If the value of tokens rises, which it would, there would be a greater opportunity cost applied to vending and it'd buffer the number of useless items being injected into the economy. Vending has its place - I know there's a backlash at the moment that people are getting swept up in, but it's a control. Again, despite the current hysteria, restocking doesn't appeal widely as it's such an active task. Vending is its passive alternative that keeps the price of our low rarity items in check.
Given that most (if not all) of the BHH item values were directly affected by the availability of BHH items in the Free Shop in January, I'm not surprised the prices still reflect that. I think the reason BHH items were even put in the Free Shop is because of the complaints about how infrequently BHH restocks and how difficult it was to find those items. I'd rather look at BHH prices a few months down the road now that the rates have supposedly increased and the influx from the Free Shops have evened out to see where BHH stands then. Or maybe just raise the number of tokens each BHH item costs.
I agree about the number of tokens going out. Is this the second or third week that Wiz has been weekend quest? Why can't the Wiz give out unique Wiz items instead of double the tokens? That would definitely help the flood of tokens on site. Or turn the Wiz into a Library-like quiz, where the reward IS the token, and not necessarily the (pretty generous) sP.
I hope to goodness vending isn't taken away or restricted even further (it's one of the very few reasons I keep a GA active; to get the extra vending). It's already annoying, to me, now. I get why it was done, even if the economy (imo) will never be 'fixed', but for someone who loves to vend and used to spend hours doing it (it helped me so much with the item achievements), it's almost upsetting to keep seeing it up for removal/change because it's 'flooding the site with low cost items'. People do that by restocking and hoarding, too. Hopefully, this restocking change will 'fix' that, so vending can be left alone.
Do you vend at all? All the time.
How often? I try to vend every day, to max but real life often interferes and I would say I get it done 3-5 times a week
At which machines? I try to vend a variety to help there be variety to sell. My favorites are Celebration cuz my gourmand pet, Blue Sky cuz books hold their value pretty good and I like to read to my pets, and Frosty claw because I think the beanbags and plushies are really cute. and sometimes clothes and books vend there too.
I love vending. I love it I love it please don't restrict it further. :( :( :(
Do you vend at all? Yes
How often? Usually two or three days at the end of the month, vending until I hit the cap or use all of my tokens, whichever comes first.
At which machines? Ocean Depths and whatever machines have something interesting going on.
I'm mainly commenting because of the suggestion to have machines giving out vend-only items and?? That's just going to cause a whole new set of issues if vending stays the way it is now. Even if there's a fairly large pool of vending machine exclusive items for every single machine, I imagine the prices are going to tank on those within like a month.
So while restockables won't be hurting as badly, I can't imagine vend-only items retaining their value unless vending gets an overhaul somehow. Some way to make it so you can't pump in 1k tokens and get flooded with items, but I'll admit I have no ideas on how this would work. Drastically lowering the cap maybe? Having the machines available only during certain times? Nothing anyone would be happy about, in any case.
I like vending a lot. It's been more fun than restocking for me-- at least until these recent restocking updates. The only other things I spend tokens on are the occasional TS buy, but that's only when I really want something. I didn't get anything from this last batch of restocks, so all these tokens are most likely going to be vended. I'd hate to see it gotten rid of, but I'm hoping for some kind of change that evens out how it's devaluing items like mad.
vending ilu bby but u got to change
And if you think vending should be removed / further restricted, how would you like to use your wizard tokens instead? I think vending should stay but maybe restrict it some.. I find it a little boring doing all those vends and getting nothing worth my time. I rather just stock up my tokens or sell them. I like fragging the cheaper items.. but trying to figure out what is what gets really tedious. Love the idea of a few less machines, maybe combine a few together. As for BHH.. I have never seen an item there, ever! so no!.. love the idea of more Token Shop restocks or whatnot. Just sucks that it restocked three+ times yesterday and I only got one item because of the wait time.
..and that's my two cents.

Vend to frag, gold account required, the Serena922003 method
I know 99%of my shop inventory comes from vending. If it is vend-able it is frag-able. I usually frag everything on the first page of my shop when price-sorted. Or up to ... 1000 sP depending on my mood and just how much stuff I have. Heck sometimes I'll start by pulling everything worth less than 200 and then go to shop search and buy everything for sale for these items until I hit a certain price level..
Currently, there is no constant demand for tokens other than vending. So, what do people with tokens do? sell, vend, or hoard. the options suck.
