I do love that the tiles in my bathroom floor are heated. Nothing worse than getting ready for the day and feeling super cold getting out of the shower. lol A heated hallway is not as helpful. it would be nice if the heat stayed in the bedrom more.
Even if I manage to turn off my phones alarm without entering the code, it at least involves having to look at the screen and whatnot. So that is usually enough for me to not fall back asleep as much. lol

My bathroom only has heating from the heated towel rail, so I'm not sure it'll be overly warm in there! (I need to get the bath changed for something more suitable, as the bath is much too high to get in easily - I think the previous person must have been particularly tall!)
Looking at a phone screen does tend to be quite a good thing to get wake you up - especially if it's set quite bright! :P

I def. have had troubles getting into baths before. Having to lift my leg up high and awkwardly try to get my other leg in there too. I hope you can find a tub/shower that you like. :) My flat has a shower only, so that works out well. I miss being able to take long bubble baths tho!
Phone screens are good at keeping you up at night too.. so I guess it works double duty?

I've been looking at showers rather than bath tubs, simply because it makes it easier to get in there for a wash! I've not been able to lie in a bath for over a year (my neck didn't like the angle), so I've already got used to not having a 'proper' bubble bath.
That's true - it's a bit of a disadvantage of making you more awake while you check the alarm time for the morning, just before you go to bed ;)

Hopefully you can find a shower that would work well at your new place. Might be a bit expensive though! I dread to think what I would have to pay to remodel my bathroom. lol
It is crazy how addicted I am to my phone. It would feel near impossible now to go back to a "dumb" phone.

So it's been rather crazy here. To highlight, Mum fell on THanksgiving morning at 3 am. So she wound up in hospital for several days. Then on the 5 of December dad was sick and he fell, so he also wound up in hospital--with covid. the day he got out, mum wound up getting admitted. Covid has decimated our home that's for sure. We are all still trying to get over it. Its been a very trying time. Christmas was nice with family, but we had no Christmas lunch or anything much else because of illness.
Paddy wow that's quite the ordel. Are you faring better now?
Pinkpanther I got a switch 2 for christmas :) How are you doing?
apparently getting a shower (with a low shower tray) to replace the bath would be cheaper than changing the entire room to a wet room, but no companies seem to advertise the prices on their site, so it's not easy to plan any idea of cost until you ask a company to measure the room & draw up a plan!
I always thought I wouldn't want to use websites on my phone (as the screen is a bit too small, and I could always use the computer), but recently I've been using my phone more to check prices on websites / do a quick search to find out something ;) I certainly wouldn't be able to go back to a non-camera phone! ;)
good to see you back :) Sorry to hear they both ended up in hospital - hopefully 2026 will go a bit better for you all
Well if you'd asked me early December, I would've said I was doing well. I'd gone for 'wheels' round the park (getting pushed up the hills, but self-propelling the rest of the way).... but since then the fatigue decided to make a reappearance (although thankfully not as strongly as in August). So at the moment I've been stuck indoors for a couple of weeks, as I didn't feel I had the energy to go out - when I did go to my flat in that time, I was pushed up the path rather than self-propelling. Christmas was ok but challenging because I could see how I did things last year (like wrapping up presents, doing a treasure hunt and hiding the clues round the house for Dad's things, playing a board game on Christmas Day), compared to how I've had to not do things this year (had to have help wrapping things, the treasure hunt was just clues without having to go and find them, and we skipped the board games) - it kind of highlighted where I am compared to where I thought I was (if that makes sense?)

You also want to make sure you hire a company that you can trust and won't charge you and arm and a leg. it can be tricky I am sure. Shower tray might be convinient too, since there is less chance for water to get "everywhere".
I use my phone for checking websites all the time. For shopping and reading the news. I also use it to watch youtube often. :D Using my laptop is a lot better if I need to type long messages though. :)
I am sorry you and your parents have been through so much. I hope you are all starting to heal and things will go more back to normal soon. :hugs: Nintendo switch 2 is a fab gift. :D No nintendo switch for me, but I did get a couple new games for my switch. Mario & Luigi brothership and Paper Mario and the thousand year door.
I got a really bad cold in November that really messed with my hearing/ears. Stressed me out a lot since I am always so worried about my hearing getting worse permanently. My ears giving me a hard time is nothing new unfortunately. But otherwise I have been doing well, and have enjoyed a lot of family time this Christmas.

yeah, I've got the details for a couple of companies that were recommended by the local Occupational Therapist, so they should be ones who are trustworthy and not too pricey (I hope!). Also, if it's a wet room style, the entire room has to be waterproofed, so that costs a lot extra! The only advantage to the wet room idea, would be that it doesn't have a shower enclosure, so it doesn't take up as much space (my bathroom is quite tiny!)
I can't type long messages on my phone - I can't even type short messages without a load of typos (or auto-correct making a mess of it), so that has to be done with a proper keyboard!

There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to a bathroom. Space is always precious. If the occupational therapists recommend those companies, it is probably for good reasons. Space is always precious, so it would be helpful if someone could do a viewing of your bathroom and talk to you about options and costs.
I hate autocorrect so I always disable it. lol It of course also means I often have to go back and correct mistakes.

I love the new HA :D
Yeah, it's a bit of a nightmare trying to work out what layout would work best, considering my bathroom is so small in the first place! I thought the Occupational Therapist was going to come and see the bathroom and give me some personalised advice on what layout would work best.... but all I was able to get from her, was the list of the companies they work with - so at least I know the companies should be reliable! I think I might ask one of the local bathroom places to come and measure the room, as they do a free layout service.... even if I don't go with their company, it'd be useful to know what they would recommend ;)
I've found it useful for some things that I always typo (like typing "tge" instead of "the"), so I don't have to keep going back through it, but sometimes the autocorrect is so insistent that it's right, no matter how many times I change it back to what I wrote in the first place, it still seems to correct it! o.O

Thank you! :D I wanted to play around with some of my new items from my gifts this Christmas.
A free assessment sounds like a good place to start. Either way it will be nice having a renovated bathroom suited to your needs. I know there are shady companies out there, so knowing they are reliable is a big plus. I have seen nightmare builders before. Yikes! Those are some of the worst of course, but still scary. lol
That is one reason I don't like autocorrect. To me it is more of a nuisance than helpful. I do use grammarly on my laptop though, at least it catches some of my spelling mistakes. lol

it looks fantastic :D
nods ironically the bathroom was redone about a year before the previous owner sold the flat (the plumbing for the bath had leaked, so she had it redone).... but it's just totally impractical for me to use it! I also need to get a company to come and look at the steps to get into the flat, and see if it's possible to have a ramp installed so I can get my wheelchair in and out easier (at the moment, I walk the steps and Dad carries the chair, but that's not ideal).... that's going to be more complicated, as the company in charge of maintenance for the flats has to be involved & authorise any work (as it's on the main communal entrance, so it would affect everyone). I'm hoping they would ok it without any hassle though, as that would also mean the other ground floor flat would then have ramped access (as they could use the same ramp) ;)
I tried using the grammar check on Word before, but it always seemed to misunderstand what I was typing (kept giving me grammatical errors that made no sense at all!) o.O

As does your HA. :D
I hope they are required to allow you to install a ramp. They might be, to accommodate disabilities? It is always nice not having to make a fuss about it though. Fingers crossed. A functioning bathroom is a must too. As I am sure you want to be as independent as possible and not need help getting to where you want to go.
Grammarly seems to work reasonably well. English spelling and grammar can be tricky for me, so it is helpful.

there's a lot of things that say places have to accomodate disabilities, but there's also a lot of places (certainly in town) that aren't allowed to make any changes to the front of their building, because it's "listed" (that means it's designated as something worth preserving, so the council then have to give the ok for any alterations.... and seem to usually say no!). Fortunately the flat isn't part of a listed building, but there's always the chance the management company won't agree on any alterations! I asked the management company to do something about the dropped kerb to get from the road to parking area for the flats - it's not level to the ground so it's quite challenging to do in a wheelchair, and if a low car drives over it, you can hear the underside of the car scrape the ground! I asked in November.... they still don't even seem to have looked at it yet :K (all it'd need is a bit of tarmac just to raise the level of the road slightly on that section!)
nods if I can get a ramp up the steps to the main entrance, then at least I could get out on my own.... I'd still need help to get back in (the door opens out, and closes automatically, so I don't think I could open it and get in without it starting to close on me), but at least it'd give me a lot more independence ;)
Honestly we never learnt grammar (at least not specifically) at school.... until I was 16 and was studying German A-level. Then the teacher started talking about all the elements of gramar, and I was just looking at her blankly, because we'd never covered anything like that in English! o.O

I am sorry they have not gotten back to you yet about fixing the dropped kerb. It seems like something that would not be too hard or expensive. Time to become a pain in their backside and nag them about for an answer. angel Being in a wheelchair probably means dealing with some challenges that most people don't even think about. You need and deserve some independance. Maybe eventually moving to somewhere more suitable to your needs would be an option, not sure if that is something you would want to do though.
To be fair. German grammar is very different from English grammar. Or Norwegian grammar for that matter. So I am not so sure it would be helpful to have learned propper English grammar. You have still learned to write well, so it worked out okay in the end I supppose?
