if it's surface muck it's ok - I can't quite tell what it actually is! :K I know that Mum & Dad's room has some mould on the wallpaper, but what's in the wardrobe looks different to that (but that could just be because it's on paint rather than paper!)

ooo nice! And the fabric & crafting kits should keep you busy for a while! ;)

just be careful, mate. Mould is not something to play with. maybe buy one of those kits that you swab it and it tells you or have someone come take a look? Just an idea.

very true

ooo another great HA today too :D

I've never heard of those kits before - I'll have a look and see what's available over here ;) So far there's been lots of black handprints over the wall (above the shelf, so whoever put there hand on the wall must have been standing on a step ladder to reach in the first place) o.O

why thank you. The top and bg are new. Lol trying out some of my new items.

I saw them being used in a couple of flipping shows. I know for sure theres one for asbestos. Pretty sure lead paint too.

Ugh and thus making everything dirtier

it looks fantastic :D

I did find some old links for ones for lead paint, but the testers don't seem to be sold here any more o.O (I was looking for that, for the paint on the wood surround for my parents' garage door - it's been painted over multiple times instead of taking the original paint off, but the paint is flaking like crazy so it'll have to be removed before it can be painted again)

I think the walls in the wardrobe that I cleaned yesterday (ignoring the black splotches section) will need cleaning again yet - they still look a bit too grubby to paint (at least to me - Dad doesn't seem to think there's a problem with the walls at all)

You think he says that so he doesn't have to help?

and another great look! :D :D

All I can think is they reckon nobody now has lead paint (or those who do, know about it).... my parents' place was built in the 70s, so strictly speaking it shouldn't have lead paint. But it still could've been used originally, o I wanted to err on the side of caution! (although when I was a kid, we used to peel the flaking paint off the garage door wood surrounds anyway o.O)

Well when I said I couldn't reach the ceiling part (bearing in mind I have claustrophobia, so being in the wardrobe in the first place is really challenging) and that I'd need a hand with that, his reply was "I thought you would say that" - but said in a kind of snarky way, not a "I'll willingly help with that" kind of tone.

That does sound like a great diamond painting. :D I am already ending up with more paintings than I know what to do with, so the plan is keeping them in the folder I have bought for them and switching them out in my frames from time to time.

Is there any way you could ask the previous owners about what the countertops are made from? Or maybe it does not matter too much?

I hate it when you are forced to call, or you get those robot chat bots. :K Live chat I can work with. Some companies makes it super hard to actually be able to talk a person and have your problem sorted, wether it be via email or other means.

I hope the washing machine will be an easy fix! Did your mom manage to get a hold of a repair company?

I doubt she'd know if I'm honest - I think it was the owner before that who had the kitchen done. Now I've started cleaning the countertop it's not feeling quite so manky laughs In the end I used bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to try and get the countertop clean.

The worst one I had was a phone call with what sounded like a person, but was answering like a robot.... I wasn't 100% certain it wasn't a foreign call centre, so I didn't want to just say "put me through to a person", but eventually the robot said it would put me through to "a real person" :P At least if the robot admits it's not human in the first place, it's a lot easier!

We haven't done yet - I think that's the plan for later this month (I needed to get a couple of complaint emails sorted last week)

That should work well to remove any grease, but not at all a fun job. I have been putting off giving my cupboards a good clean. At least the top of them.

With AI we are just going to see more of those customer service robots I bet. Ugh. When I am on chat trying to get support, I will always type that I want to speak to a human. If I could sort the problem myself by reading the website, I would not need to contact support to begin with. :K

Hopefully they will be agreeable. :)

I've been having a lot of headaches/migraines the last several days. Sorry for the delays

Paddy- I don't blame you with wanting to be sure. I wouldnt mess with lead paint either.

lol it sounds like he's not keen on it himself.

Pinkpanther- Sounds like a good idea though :D

it was quite satisfying cleaning the countertop, but the cupboards are getting boring to clean now (and I've still got lots left to do!) 😊

I don't mind the automated service from some places, as I don't have to speak to anyone (machine or human), but if I have to livechat / speak to someone, then it really needs to be a human ;) I'll have to try that trick of typing that I want to speak to someone, and see if that works :D

One of the complaint emails has been resolved at least (and I had a better refund than I was expecting) :D

I love the HA ;)

That stinks on the headaches :K hopefully they'll ease off soon though squishes gently

I think Dad struggles to see the point in cleaning the wardrobe walls at all (even though they're obviously really in need - it's all painted white, but the shelf and skirting board were brown in places, let alone the black handprints!)

It does sound like a big job. Hopefully also means you will have plenty of cupboards for storage?

Robots are usually very unhelpful, but are cheaper than hirering staff so I don't see them going away anytime soon. I tried to contact a company to return a pair of shoes that were the wrong size. I kept just getting strung along with automated responses. I ended up giving them a scathing review online. Of course they ended up refunding me quickly after that. :P

That is awesome that you got a bigger refund than expected. :D

there's a lot more cupboards than I probably would need at the moment.... but of course when you've got more storage space, it's surprisingly easy to fill it!

ROFL sometimes a scathing review is just what it takes to get them to pay attention 😇

We've had a nightmare weekend (parents' place) - the fridge freezer tripped the fuse (fuse box is in the garage), so I went down to the garage and reset it, then an hour later it tripped again. Every hour it then kept tripping the fuse, all day long. Sunday morning I reset the fuse again, then changed the fridge temperature to slightly colder (hoping that it would retain that temperature for longer when it went off). 5 hours later it tripped the fuse (and tripped every hour after that). Monday morning, I went to reset the fuse.... and it immediately tripped again. In the end we had to switch the fridge off at the wall, as the fuse wouldn't stay on otherwise. Mum phoned the repair company Monday morning, who couldn't come until this afternoon - apparently the motor has died :K He could repair it, but we decided it was more sense to get a replacement.... which is coming Thursday morning. All I can say, is thank goodness I've got my fridge freezer up and running in my flat! I've been able to store all the food in there, so there wasn't much that ended up getting scrapped! :D

That is what always happens. Empty spaces gets filled over time. Discovering Temu did not help for me, but I have also been able to donate some things to charity so I guess it evens out a bit?

That does sound really frustrating with having to reset the fuse. Glad you were able to save the food that was in the freezer. Especially with how expensive food has gotten lately. I only got a small freezer section in my fridge, since I don't really have space for a separate freezer. :)

at least you've been able to pass some thing on to charity, so that's cleared a bit of space too ;)

The new fridge freezer is a lot taller than the old one, but because it's a tight fit between the wall and the cooker, we can't get the door open wide enough to take the shelves out to rearrange them.... so we have two shelves quite close together, which would only hold yoghurts or something short :K But hopefully once we've got used to using the space, we can figure out a better way of putting things in there!

That must get quite annoying in hot weather though, if you want to have some ice cream or something frozen in there, and there's maybe not quite enough room! ;)

I figure it is better to pass it along than having it collect dust here. ;)

Not ideal that you can't take the shelves out to rearrange them. Would it be possible to move your fridge freezer just enough to rearrange the shelves and put it back into place after? I am sure you can make it work somehow. :)

My fridge has 3 freezer shelves, not terrible, but also doesn't always seem like enough. :P I always tell myself I am going to stop buying things to put in there, and empty it mostly. But of course things always seem to be added into it regardless. 👼

that's always a positive :D

I'm hoping we can just angle it slightly, so the door can open a little wider, rather than having to pull the whole thing out! ;)

When we had our last fridge freezer (about three years ago, so it didn't last long!), the inside space was smaller than the old one, so I wanted to make sure we had something a little larger rather than going smaller again! It does seem weird going to the freezer and not having to play frozen-food-Tetris to make it fit into the drawers though :P

I think that's the same with any shelves - if you have a space, it doesn't stay as empty space for long 😇
