I think someone was running a challenger opponents guide that listed their weapons which explains the elements they primarily use, also if they have anything disabled. Honestly, I think icons are self-explanatory and tend to be logical. Use fire weapons against an ice opponent. Or just pay attention to what the primary weapon elements are going to be and counter that with blocking weapons, and target the elements they don't block. I don't know if adding some kind of basic elemental weakness on every opponent is something that's doable? It takes away the fun of guessing or getting into battle and examining the opponent.

Really, if you battle mindlessly, yeah, you're gonna lose more battles than win them. I should know, I've gone into battles without paying any mind to what's being dealt against me and I lose because I brought the wrong weapons to the fight. When I focus and work around that, I tend to do better then.

that's my point, though - it's fun and self explanatory for us because we know what it means. The guides aren't being written for us. They're for newbies who just see a ton of little pictures and have no idea what any of it means. If people want to fight new opponents blind and figure things out through trial and error, they absolutely can, but they shouldn't have to because there's no other option.

And yes, the current challenger guide does list weapons and attacks. But again, if you don't know what that means, it's just a lot of coloured blobs.

edit - hell, I see people in this thread a lot, people who've been battling for years and have upper tier pets and weapons, who still can't figure out what's good against certain opponents even with the current opponent guide. So it's not all that self explanatory.

Oh man, I'm obviously doing something wrong. I've been questing for at least two years now, trying to save up for the Wrath of Kahahakshdaksdhad, and I've almost made it to 2 billion now. At this rate, I'm going to need another 7 years to afford one of those boxes. Do you think Subeta will still exist in 7 years? xD

shrugs i've asked time and time again to the people who don't understand battling what the guide needs to explain to them, but I get nothing usually for answers. Unless I'm not asking the right questions or asking in the right place. In my opinion, there's only so much information we can provide. The rest is on the reader to interpret the information and understand it.

That said, I'd be down for taking away some of the mysteries on opponents if they had something listed somewhere about the main elements they dish out and what they're weak to. Like on the choose weapons page. Maybe it's something that could be done like how Pokemon changed their system slightly to indicate SE moves or not against a wild encounter. You fight them the first time without knowing aside trial and error, and then the next time you fight that same one, you'll have enough basic information made available to you to determine how to go about approaching them and winning (aka the super effectiveness of moves and such).

I'm spitballin ideas, don't know if it helps or not though. I don't know if people think our elemental system is like Pokemon and assume fire beats ice, etc. etc., when yeah, sometimes that is logical but if your ice opponent also blocks fire and magma anyways with their weapons, but is weak to Earth, then I can see why that is a problem.

I would love a system that reminds us what icons/quirks challengers have. Training multiple pets means I have huge gaps between fighting a guy the first time, and fighting him the 2nd or 3rd. I've usually totally forgotten my strategy and have to start all over again.

So that'd help both old farts like me and newbies.

yeah, that's fair. I had the idea just based on things people have said in the past day, here and in the news post.

I do remember last time suggesting you break the main guide up into a bunch of smaller guides just because at first glance that is a really intimidating bunch of text walls and a lot of people likely instantly think 'oh god if it's that hard I'll never get it' and run away without reading any of it.

Maybe instead we need a quick and dirty 'So You're Brand New' post that tries for one or two sentence summaries and a link to each guide post for the actual information. Just something that doesn't look scary. People have this fixed concept by now that battling is insanely complicated and impossible to get the hang of and I think it's putting most newbies off ever even trying.

So that means there will be some weapons hitting the trades? Not everyone has 125 million to throw at these boxes in the hope of getting the 1 weapon they really want.

Ah, so a quick summary of each post? Yeah, I really hate how wordy the guide is, but I thought, well, more explanations means maybe people will get it??

I think someone mentioned it before, but maybe a guide or thread that you walk a player through the initial steps of battling? Like, step 1, train your pet's stats to 50 or 100 points each. Come back to step 2 when you've done so. Step 2, buy weapons that match pet's tier. Here's a recommended beginner set. Go to step 3, battling buttwing bomber. Step 4, you won the battle, now keep training, improve weapons as pet grows, and keep practicing. Or Step 5, you lost the battle, here is why you possibly did and how you can improve on it.

I made a spoiler tag and put it in my notepad on the sidebar with all of my battle strategies. I have too many pets coming up to remember, or try to reinvent, battle plans.

Maybe put together a guide spreadsheet similar to the 1P Loot tracker - Collaboration Project

I made this awhile ago... may not be totally accurate, and its missing some of the newer opponents, but its a start if people want to maintain it
