Nice - I definitely wish that was the official presentation for the normal challengers for at least the beginner difficulties.
yeah, maybe that would work. The guide as it stands is really informative and helpful, but only if people aren't scared off before they ever read it.
The Comprehensive Battle Opponent Guide could really use specific weapon recommendations and general strategies for each opponent now MrCool's blog is gone, but that is a lot of work. A spreadsheet like Kris suggests might be the way to go... hmm.
edit: that's fantastic, that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind.
Someone go snare a newbie, we'll need one to bounce ideas off. I don't remember what I thought when I first read the various guides etc, I lurked this board for most of a year silently reading and trying to figure stuff out before actually asking a question.
YES YES YES!! i love this! I assume those element icons indicate what ones the opponent favors or does the most of? It's definitely a good idea. I'd love an official compendium on battle opponents. Like a section in the 'pedia. With all the information on their elemental favor, weaknesses, if they steal or disable healing, etc.
Yes, we need newbies to experiment with and see what can be done then to improve things. I've been in battling for so long, I don't remember anymore what it was like starting out.

I got "Shengui Guo Purifying Staff" if you want to add to the counts
Yup, the icons show what the opponents does most of - somewhat prioritized, though I did just eyeball a lot of them when I battled them.
Overall, I envisioned it as a quick reference - what icons I need to block, can I freeze chain, do I need steal protection, how many kills to fully farm the opponents for amulets & tomes, marquise / eor drops, etc. The current stats info is pretty useless, so I just reused the space with some CSS
tattered scroll combos small update re: these old things -- over in the subeta discord spacemage gave me the deets on the custom coding for the burnt and soggy muffins, prehistoric, and lights of sprites scrolls
in the interest of Knowledge, if anyone can tell me extra business the green thumb scroll has going on, i'd appreciate it! (my understanding is that six of them have custom coding and our guess was the green thumb scroll was one of the six, but that's my vague memory of a post from purge four years ago, so. might be wrong, idk)
It's really useful, might be something I could see myself use because sometimes I remember which weapons to use, but most of the time I just mindlessly slap on something general and proceed to lose a bunch until I pay attention and change up my set. I am just lazy.

If you want to reduce some the wordiness of the guide and make it look less intimidating, I would take out some of the paragraphs exlaining how things used to be. I get it's kinda fun to compare to better appreciate the changes, but it's ultimately not useful if it's no longer relevant. The scroll library section starts with three paragraphs of history where you could start with explaining how it is basically the armoury for scrolls.
That's fair, I did question at one point if the history stuff was at all necessary. That sort of thing fascinates me, but you're right, it is unnecessary for the now. Thank you for the feedback! I will add that to my notes of changes to make. Right now I'm mostly collecting feedback on the guide so I can push updates through in one fell swoop. The more direction I can get on making it better, then hopefully it makes a difference for everyone!

For the easy/medium challenger beginner battler guide. I'd suggest also saying if they block all or a lot of an icon. Example, Tide blocks all fire so make sure you attack with icons other than fire.
I kind of feel like if people are taught how mechanics (icons meanings, attacking, blocking, freezing, healing and stealing) from the start, then they have more confidence and feel like they can figure more things out. The when they get to hard opponents they can start making strategies instead of needing to be told step by step what to use.
Also tell them when to start thinking about scrolls, then when that's comfortable, try some mods and then here's potions. Yes, when I battle my baby pets I have scrolls and mods and best weapon per Tier. But that's because I already know all about it. It makes life easier but it isn't necessary for the early battling.
If you have a gungo ho person that wants to brain dump it all and be instant expert, we have guides for that already. Now let's target the hesitant and overwhelm with super simple guides.
I will take a look through it more then. I quit battling because I decided I wasn't interested in the sP commitment but I'm still up for improving guides.
Thank you!! It is really appreciated because I really have overlooked a lot without realizing others may not understand some aspects. Like what happens when you get frozen for a turn, or if your weapons get stolen or if a curse/blessing goes off. These are examples I need to fit into the guide somewhere.
I'm going to take a hard look at the guide and potentially cut a lot of stuff out that is considered advanced. It might be better to run two separate guides, one that is purely beginner and one that is geared towards advanced. Atm the guide is trying to be a blend of the two, and that may not be good.

What has everyone gotten out of the basiccccc box.
purge
Is that the full list :P
10 items? Looks like it to me!
Dope thanks! I think you said in a previous post that as a part of the prize you'd refresh the weaps in the box ay and change it up? When is the next war?
Thanks for doing the stats frooooooth
Yeah, I think this would be a good change going forward. If you need other folks to help with specific bits so you're not doing it all yourself, just say the word.
New to posting here (lurker), but I've been battling basically since I joined, a bit over 2 years ago...
I don't think that I can give a newbie perspective anymore, but I did help some starting battlers recently. I agree with : explaining the basic mechanics in simple terms helps a lot. I'd also say that explaining the basic composition of a weapon set (freezer, healer/healing in general, blockers, attack) could be a good idea.
Is there any info on the trading of these items.
I would love to get a box (can only afford 1)
there is only 1 item i want or need, I realise the chances of me getting it are low.
So if I were to get the martinez briefcase for example is there any hope i could trade for the weapon I want which is the Tainted Keeper Skull Staff I am thinking not
I wish I could go back in time..
I will be adding a section purely about things like curses/blessings, freezing, stealing, critical hits, etc. This is something I'm seeing mentioned that I completely agree needs to be added in.
I'm starting to tear the guide apart and set about reorganizing it. Keep suggestions coming in. I'm thinking the issue with it currently is it needs to start more at the foundations and then combine all those parts together by the advanced sections.

You Won!
You have defeated Crawbeast
Cynde earned 3500 EXP Points!
Forgot to mention in previous post: for absolute clarity, mention that the icons displayed below the opponent are the effects that are affecting the opponent / below your pet are affecting your pet, and remember to include images of the most important icons (frozen at least).
Aaah it all sounds so exciting and I want to help... I'm kind of rubbish at writing though, but donkey work and scode maybe? I can do those, or proof reading.
I don't really remember much of my beginner days, but then I've always been the sort to plow through the guides before playing xD
